Pretty impressive that, although 32 seems a bit young. I suppose his match time was waning in the last couple of years.

Hopefully with Scarborough there will come a point where the squad just clicks into a level where it can sustain itself in the championship. In the meantime have you tried anything to make you harder to beat? Those long runs of good and bad form are bizarre.

Squad Stats

The Finnish Cup begins the season with a qualifying group round against teams at our level, which gave me a guide to how we might do this year – a 5-2 win against Kemi Kings looks really impressive until you see where they ended the league campaign, we finished unbeaten and thanks to the final day victory over Ekenäs Tammisaari managed to qualify for the Soumen Cup, and a scary looking tie against HJK (at the time top of the Veikkausliiga and the most successful Finnish side EVER) – I’m not sure how we managed to win as they absolutely battered us for the 90 minutes, but the defense held firm and a solitary goal nicked it. SJK knocked us out in the Quarter Finals after a “disappointing collapse”. Overall a very favorable start.  The HJK result was pivotal in convincing the squad that a manager with no qualifications or experience can be a good manager - they started to respect me a little bit from that point onwards.

The Ykkönen concerned me greatly – after an inconsistent start we managed a run of games where we smashed teams all over the shop and ended June top of the table and I was very concerned that we would win the league – we are NOT, repeat NOT strong enough for the Veikkausliiga and I don’t want to face into that particular battle right now. Fortunately we started to draw a few games and that allowed the top 2 to get a slight lead which extended by the end of the season. We finished 4th – 9 points behind the leaders which feels about right. Kemi Kings picked up a grand total of 4 points – they came down from the Veikkausliiga last year and must have some serious problems!

Goals were not a problem – Nazim Amokachi and Hekuran Hasani both got 12 and Defensive Midfielder Jerome Ogbuefi also got double figures, Ably supported by Karam Hadhoud with 13 assists . Hasani is a bit of a bug bear as he is a youngster and looks really good but was someone that I inherited so can’t claim him as “one of my own”. Ultimately a very nice season – most of the squad remained injury free so we had a fairly settled starting 11 which meant they gelled quite quickly.

Youth Intake

Wasn’t sure what to expect, our facilities are fairly rubbish the whole way round but I did get a 5* potential boy.

Teemu Syväjärvi 1A – a right back who drops in as my 2nd best RB but has played 7 of the 9 matches since he “arrived” and is likely to be my main starter next season. The looks so god damn angry, but so would you with those technicals! Great Leadership for one so young, the Bravery and Determination are also on the positive side.

Jiri Moisander IE is a left back who due to squad depth will become my immediate back up and I think he can become a fairly decent squad player. He looks so sweet and innocent, but Aggression of 18 suggests he might have some issues when confrontation is around.

Tom Yiönen 1B may fall between the cracks despite the potential he has – he sits behind the aforementioned Hekuran Hasani who’s a year older than Yiönen and so much better. If you look at his attribute for *insert a positive here* then it suggests he has a chance...

The final one to call out in this update is Jesper Holmberg 1D, a striker, and likely to be my 4th choice – I’ve settled on a 4-1-4-1 formation so he probably won’t see a huge amount of action next season, but there is something to work on there (maybe...) One of his best attributes is when he doesnt have the ball, not sure if that is something to be proud of in a footballer or not.

We did have a bit of good fortune in our affiliates where both Deportivo Alaves (La Liga) and Chennai City (Indian I-League) have agreed to allow youngsters to train with us so we might see a Spanish or Indian Newgen in the future – these were existing affiliates so I can’t take too much credit for the link.

As for preparing for next season, I’ve got 4 or 5 squad players to move on which will give some places on the subs bench for the intake guys. There is minimal money in the bank to improve anything within the club at this point in time so it’s unlikely that any of the facilities will be improved so the ideal would be another season where we can have a little cup run and do similar in the league whilst bleeding some of the kids into the fold, and hopefully luck into a golden generation..

Lost another good player now

Board accepted offer.

Tony Fortheringham

Hadn't did a great job for me yet but was still inexperienced

Was the only player that had shown PL potential in coach reports

Going from an awful season to absolutely disastrous

Scarborough Athletic – Season 8 (2027/28)

EFL League 2

League: It was a pretty crazy season. Our early season form was inconsistent but it never felt like we were in danger of getting relegated. We then started going on good runs here and there, and the usual second season slump never happened, so we reached playoff positions in the second half of the season. Then the form of the teams around us suddenly collapsed, and we managed to sneak into the final 3rd-place promotion spot with 4 games to go. We held our nerve (or more like, our competitors kept losing their nerve), and ended up clinching promotion with 1 game to go, so here we are: after 5 seasons in Vanarama National we’ve suddenly achieved back-to-back promotions!

A decent FA cup run saw us pick up some much needed money with a 3rd-round away tie at Leicester.

XN0l9Sc.png  Ine3xE9.png

Players: With the club going full-time, some of the youngsters are developing nicely and helping push us to next level. Neil Smith 06a (GK) and Joe Reece 06c (DR) have particularly impressed, and Sam Fletcher 05b (DC/DM/MC) is now the only decent center-mid at the club, but he is pretty good. A rejuvenated old-boy Irvino Morales 01a (AMRC/ST) got the highest average rating, hitting 22 goals in 47 starts.

LDAid98.png  bYduM5l.pnguDJp2LX.png  AlEYwBD.png

Youth intake: Given the amount of money we’re leaking on youth costs every month, I am definitely disappointed. One good talent Ollie Stubbs 08a (MR/AMR) in an area where I’m already well stocked, and nothing else of note. Plenty of poor personalities and higher youth wages now that we’ve gone pro mean that I didn’t sign many players.

4nfpeMu.png  yb3GbV5.png

Finances: We are leaking money to the tune of £200k per month thanks to £180k p/m we’re spending on youth costs. The board are refusing to downgrade our youth set-up, so we have to keep selling players if we want to stay in the black.

Transfers: I had a few good offers for Abdul Acquah 05b (DM/MLC), so let him go to Leeds after negotiating a solid £1.9m fee on deadline day. Center midfield is our weakest area, but Acquah has never played that well despite his good stats and potential, so I decided to let him go before the board started selling players on my behalf. It turned out alright as we still got promoted even with him gone.

Facilities: Our youth facilities got downgraded at the end of the season so I’m upgrading them again.

Intake day arrived, and this was the result

John Garner looks incredible, and makes me consider a formation change to best suit him.

Edit: Fantastic progress @dkouv, with back to back promotions!

Yeah tend to find (majority of times) then when a player hits 28/29 they start to deteriorate rapidly. He played bad that last season so was dropped pretty much for new up and coming player.

Re my form. Tired everything. Tactic tweaks. Playing players with highest morale. Rotating players. Not rotating players

South Shields

Youth Intake 2032

An intake with two great prospects and a truly standout player! Ryan Hughes arrives as a youth candidate but will go straight into the first team. Look at those stats! Yes, he is already 17, but this has to be the best player I have gotten in a youth intake. Our coaches view him as our best defender by far. Hopefully we can get him to use his right foot.

Gibbons and O'Hanlon also looks good, hopefully they can develop nicely. On central midfield and full backs we are now looking good, but I hope for a striker in next years intake!

South Shields

Season Summary 2031-2032

Premier League, here we come!!

A miracle promotion! We were tipped to finish bottom of the table, but 38 rounds later we secure promotion with a goalless draw away at Stoke. Derby didn't manage a win away at Sunderland and that means South Shields will play Premier League football next season!!

We started the season poorly, only winning 4 out of our first 13 games. I thought this would be a long battle against relegation, but after some changes to the tactics and player instructions our luck changed. We only lost three games from January until the season finished and with great form comes great luck. We secured several wins in the last few minutes of matches, with several different players stepping up as match winners. Ross Finnie is a fantastic goalkeeper and the fact we now have a great GK is the biggest difference from previous seasons.

How we can survive in the Premier League is a mystery, but with all the money coming in we will just have to take it as a great experience.

We had a great run in the FA Cup, reaching the quarter finals, where we got knocked out by Wolves 1-2 at home.

We are moving into a new 15 000 seat stadium this summer. Great for the club, but almost a shame it's not 12 months away, as our 5000 seat stadium wouldn't meet the Premier League license demands and we probably would have had to loan an even bigger stadium for a year, getting even more income.

We have by far the lowest salary costs in the Championship and Bob Sterry, our top goal scorer, will now sign a new deal (offered straight after the last game of the season). He will earn around £32k a week, that is about 50% our current salary costs for the whole club.. Hopefully we won't have to spend a lot of money on new contracts, as I imagine we will go straight down. Sterry had a relegation clause in his contract and I didn't want to get relegated and lose our best striker come 12 months from now!

Congrats on this awesome achievement! That Ryan Hughes guy is an absolute beast. Should become at least lower prem level if not higher I reckon. How's the finances looking? Maybe you can invest more in facilities now that you're in the prem? If wages end up high try to get a percentage wage decrease on relegation in the contracts. Good luck!

Thanks!

Yes, I think Ryan Hughes can become a top level defender to be honest. Let's hope a year in the Premier League can help his progress along!

The finances are looking better after a takeover from a local businessman. Not a rich uncle, but a solid owner. With a new stadium and massive TV-money coming next season the goal will be to focus on the facilities and upgrade those as much as I can. I hope to sign as few new contracts as possible with the players. Most of them have more than one year left on their deal and I don't want to pay Premier League size salaries to what is mostly League 2/League 1 quality players :D

Play bottom of the league Stevenage, lose the game and then can't win another game!

Strikers miss sitter after sitter and they score off there only decent attacks

I fear, I may not be able to keep hold of James Garner - 23A for much longer.

He is attracting a high amount of interest.

He is currently on a youth contract. Will it increase his value if I try to sign him on a regular contract? If he is even interested in that.

Good luck trying to keep him

I have never managed to keep a player who is targeted by clubs higher than me. Eventually the board have given in and sold them (might have been one I sold earlier on in my career)

I always sign promising players on a full time contract, and chuck in an extension clause. It won't necessarily  lead to you being able to keep the really promising players, but obviously it makes them happier and increases the chances. On the other hand, full time contracts are more expensive.

I'm going to put the way to get them to agree to a FT contract in spoilers because it could be considered a 'trick' or workaround. Sully your innocence at your peril.

Spoiler

If you offer them the minimum wage for a FT contract with the extension years they may reject it, but I find that if you offer them the next amount up than the minimum, they'll sign on the dotted line straight away.

I find it's cheaper to offer the FT contract straight away. Once I accidentally signed a prospect to a youth contract, and then pretty much straight away offered him a FT one, and he wanted a much higher wage.

There's other workarounds to get them to stay, such as having their value artificially low, and then just rejecting all the inevitable low ball offers. I don't do this as I would find it a cheat personally, but my min wage + seems ok to me.

2021-22 Season Preview

Squad |Finances | Expectations

Manager's Notes

I'm hoping for a midtable finish this time around. The bookies have us as relegation candidates once again, but our sub-division is one of the weaker ones and if our players develop, I could see us being a solid team. My board are being quite optimistic, wanting me to challenge for a top spot in the next couple of years. We're crying out for some better midfield/defensive cover in our next intake, our wings are covered and our striker, although not irreplacable, is still quite young and good for this level. This season could definitely define how the next few go.

Ones to Watch

Diogo Pereira

ymM418o.png

Our star winger. Has progressed a decent amount since last season, but I'm hoping he really kicks on in the next couple of years. I'm worried his ceiling could be quite low, but I'll remain ignorant for now as he's still our best youngster.

Vítor Patrocínio

ZiZkHz2.png

Walked into the team as our starting goalkeeper, I've got high hopes for this lad. He's going to get plenty of gametime and he's developing nicely already. I feel lucky I've gotten a dependable goalkeeper, as I know they can make or break this challenges.

Ivo Brassard

C1DEpyt.png

I didn't show this guy before as he was a fairly average u19 player, but his development has been excellent and he's forced his way into my first-team plans. I'm sensing a decently high potential on him, and I'm hoping regular first-team action can see him become a key player in the next few years.

2024 Season Half Way/Youth Update

I will pretty honest with you all, I could probably cut and paste my entries for the Potiguar State Championship, Copa do Brasil and Copa do Nordeste from previous updates and they would fit here pretty well.  I managed to qualify and win both the Open and Close stage of Potiguar State Championship which meant no playoff, and the trophy automatically came home to us again.  Making it 4 State Championship out of 4 for me.

The Copa do Brasil, was once again a first round exit, while the Copa de Nordeste was a 5th place finish in the Group

Where the real change came from though was in Série B.  After 4 games, I was doing cartwheels, with being on 3 wins and a draw scoring 10 goals and conceding 1.  Unfortunately it could not last and in the next 10 games I only managed 3 wins.  At the halfway point though, I can be found in the top half, 16 points clear of relegation

Now, what about transfers - well the Saudis came back again, took another player.  A few other transfers too

Youth

2020

Nem (20b) - Still State Championship keeper but will be upgraded to also being general No. 2 from the end of the season

2021

Pipcoa (21b) - Love this boy.  And he loves me.

2022

Marcelo Augusto (22a) - Solid season so far.  Need to build his fitness up.

Beto (22b) - Signed for fellow Série B side for CSA

Aleluia (22c) - Young winger but still bit of a bit part player

2023

Heurelho Campos (23a) - A few appearances but his season is over through injury.  Out for about 6 months

Fábio Martins (23b) - Under 20's

Marcos Paulo (23c) - Under 20's

Russo (23d) - Under 20's

2024

@andershs Thanks! And your prospect Garner looks awesome, for sure. I don't think you'll have much of a say in keeping him though. I found that when the youth player's PA is much higher than average in your squad they'll refuse to sign a professional contract no matter what you try, and a bigger team will eventually sign them for compensation. Annoying but realistic I guess. Obviously, if he suddenly becomes interested in negotiating you should sign him up full-time (or part-time, can't remember which league you're in), but this has not happened to me in the past.

I agree with @vikeologist that the best thing to do is to sign promising players to pro contracts asap as you get better terms, plus if they improve rapidly they will no longer be interested in signing at all and you lose them for compensation or on a free.

@thomas_e congrats on EPL promotion, that was fast! Now you'll have plenty of money for a while even if you do go back down.

@Padders your board seems annoyingly stingy, maybe with £20m in the bank they will finally stop selling players over the head... I guess you could also go for maxing youth facilities while you have all this cash?

My plan for now is to sell players for big money on my terms (with sell-on clauses) whenever I can, and try to generate enough to upgrade some of the facilities. But it is unlikely anyone in my squad is good enough for this kind of valuation, making a vital flaw in this otherwise very reasonable approach...

This current board won't improve any of the youth facilites

Very frustrating

Iceland is on a hold. I really do have something to do in England... So I loaded up and holidayed a season and there it were. My old friend, Folkestone Invicta. So I gave it a go, and I really enjoyed myself. So here I am again. The problem is the start, I had 12 players I could use. So one sub each game, and really hope no one got injured. And quite frankly, I didn't have many! One here and there, but no big ones. Luckily, I could slot everyone into my basic 4-4-2 without any retraining. And it really worked, the players did amazing and we were in the fight for promotion throughout the season. Even if we did great, we had some really bad losses. Mostly, because I only had one sub, at least that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it! In the end, we finished in an amazing 2nd place and the best playoff spot. In the playoff semi final we faced Bath City at home. A very hard game, and it went to extra time. There we got a goal, and then countered in another to decide the game. In the final we got Concord Rangers, the team that finished right behind us. We were robbed. I'm going to be this direct. They got a pen, then we had a red card, and a goal annulled "questionably". So we lost 1-0, and Concord Rangers got promoted instead of us.

I really enjoyed this season, and had loads of fun. And now that I actually have enough players, I guess it will become even more fun. Now, about the new players, I guess I can't expect much. At least when the first intake is mentioned to be "a very poor crop of players". To be fair, I do have quite good players for this level. Especially Johan ter Horst was amazing this season. The intake was not as poor I feared, and we actually had some good players come into the team. I kept the lot of them, since I need to fill out the squad at any rate. American / German left back Malte Eckardt 21a is the best of them, and are my first choice left back from the get go. The other player to mention is Ian Corcoran 21b, our main sub for midfield and striker.

In the FA Cup we beat Didcot and Chippenham Town before losing to Bromley in the 4th qualifying round. In the FA Trophy we beat Willand before losing to Maidstone United in the 1st round.

I've spent the whole day reloading trying to get Folkestone. (Again)

My last try is going from May to June right now.

Are you telling me you got Folkestone first time?

UPDATE : JFC. They came up! My last try, before I gave up reloading for Folkestone for, and I mean this from the bottom of my soul, forking ever.

Vikeologist's Palermo 2037/38 End of Season Report

Image result for palermo fc

Why have i spent the whole day reloading?

A disastrous end to the season.

I thought we had a top 4 spot sown up. We were 7 points clear of danger with about 6 matches to go, so I played my last 2 top prospects for a couple of matches.

Anyway, long story I don’t want to tell short, we finished 5th.

So next year we won’t even be in the Champions League.

I might have had a reprieve if Inter had won the final against Liverpool, but they were soundly beaten.

I suppose I’ll just have to treat it as a development year, and try to develop the youngsters.

Top Goalscorer – Vanni Lugli YP7d – 22

Top scorer 3 seasons in a row, though as always with the rider that 6 of these goals were penalties. However, the fact that he scored 6 out of 6 penalties is of course a positive.

Highest Average Rating (minimum 10 matches played) – Vincenzo Corrado YP17c – 7.33

Not only is Luciano Campi not winning this award anymore, but now his 18 year old backup is, having played in 15 matches. Unfortunately it’s time to put Campi out to pasture. My heart is heavy, but he doesn’t have it anymore.

Man of The Match – 2 players (Pellegrino / Lugli)- 6

Most Valuable Player– Calogero Bellomonte YP12a – Just going off staff ability reports. Bellomonte and a striker Allegretti are both 4 stars, but Allegretti doesn’t score enough to be the MVP.

Yeah, sorry. I did save so I could reload if I didn't get any I liked, since I didn't have any specific team in mind. So when they came on the first try, I went for them...

@Padders I've been wondering how you get through your seasons so quick. Are you using a auto result button or is your PC just insanely quick. Even in these coronavirus enlightened days of infinite free time I need a good week or so to get through a season 😂

Also what sort of post match team talks do you do after a good run comes to an end? You've probably already considered this but I find hammering the players always makes things worse even if they deserve it. Morale is the number 1 factor when it comes to form imo. Now I save bollockings for half time only, and if they still lose then I come out with some bollocks about bad luck.

I am working from home so am playing 10 -12 hours a day (can usually do a season in that time). Have work and personal laptop on the go at the same time

I let my Assistant Manager do all team talks

I've have tried doing them myself but that never works either so find AM is better

I have a decent laptop to be fair, i7 8th Gen

Season Review:

The campaign starts in Janaury with the Finnish Cup and I was very optimistic, especially after an opening day 4-0 victory, alas that was the only victory of the campaign as back to back defeats left us with an all or nothing match to qualify - which we drew. We met expectations of the board - nothing more.

The league had a binary start (1,0,1,1,0) until FC Haka came to town, they were disptached 4-0 and that was the beginning of a run of 1 defeat in 19 matches which ended with this beautiful moment. It was a season where no one really challenged us for the title - I had hoped that we would do well but to win the league as comfortably as we did was an unexpected bonus. Sami Karjalainen was the main man, 12 goals, 11 assists, and topping the average ratings with a 7.32 BUT as he is an existing player nothing more will be said about him. Lets talk about the kids shall we...

Teemu Syväjärvi 1A had the time of his young life, starting with his first call up to the Finland U19 squad, becoming the first newgen to claim international honours, continued with a call up to the EURO U19 Championship squad and 3rd in Player of the Year, and Winner of Young Player of the Year, League Rookie of the Season, and finally was selected into the JS Hercules hall of fame amongst the subs - a solid 7.14 as first choice Right Back. Petri Halmekangas 1I wasn't called out in the last post - just click on him and you will understand why.. but he does have the distinction of being the first newgen to score for us - 5 minutes into his debut as an 82nd minute sub, he scored the winning goal at Ekenäs IF Tammisaari in a match that all but secured the title. Markku Lappalainen 1G is another that hasn't and probably won't be mentioned too often but he has shown superb versatility in his 11 matches, playing at DM, MC and RM with a limited amount of success, a fair squad player is all that he might be, but beggars CANNOT be choosers at this point in time. I did call out Tom Ylönen 1B and I talked about how he would be a second choice, thanks to international call ups and suspensions proved that he is nowhere near ready to be involved week in week out.

The Next Generation

So, who can I get excited about in the Y2 intake... barely anyone if I am honest.

  • Petri Hanhela 2A - immediately established as my 4th choice striker (playing a 4-1-4-1) in my eyes, although my AsM has him as the 8th best, he has an OK finishing attribute, and his Determination and Work Rate are OK as a starting point. His personality concerns me though.
  • I don't have a massive amount of depth at Central Defender - of the 5 existing players listed on the profile, 2 of them are really DM's in CD clothing, so having Tomi Seppä 2B come through gives me a 4th option - the fact he can jump twice as well as he can head the ball is an interesting combination, he (along with 9 or 10 others) made his senior bow at the end of the season once the title was secured and he did ok(ish)
  • I have a senior keeper who is going to be my hero next season if we survive, and it's nice to have a back-up of sorts this year, Otto Kokko 2I is likely to be my Stuart Taylor or Graham Stack and stick around without playing ANY football but if we do get an injury, he can at least punch the ball away.

All of the above was in the Ykkönen, next season is the Veikkausliiga, we will start as relegation favourites and I will give everything I currently have to finish 3rd from bottom, but with these kids and an ever diminishing squad of "existing" players, to say it's going to be a challenge is the understatement of the century. We will however go into next season, with a marginally improved HoYD

Hopefully you can get that youth coaching and recruitment upgraded. Otherwise your youth intake will probably not improve by much. Hoping your finances improve next season. The first few levels up until at least average or adequate don't bring any additional monthly youth costs as far as I'm aware. Might be wrong though. Good luck!

Cheers.

I get TV money and the sponsorship has doubled in the Veikkausliiga but i dont think I will be able to do a massive amount of stuff to the facilities until I get Europe or if i sell Teemu Syväjärvi 1A, and even selling him will only get me 100k or so if I'm lucky! Teemu proves that 5* potential CAN happen...

Having just completed the dafuge challenge I thought I'd give this a whirl opting to start in Belarus, I was going to start at FC Dnepr Mogilev but saw someone had recently started there so instead, meet the new Manager of FC Uzda, a team with a whole 11 players to use. (I presume I'm allowed to use greyed out players should we get injuries/suspensions before our youth intake?)

UZK33oa.jpg

I've a good two months to try and sort my staff out and a quick look at my team suggests that my only striker will be playing in centre mid as we have nobody else who can play there either, can't wait

Port Talbot Town FC - Season 4 (2023-24)

Competitions - Squad - Transfers - Finances - Season Review - Season Awards - Overall Best 11

League - Made solid progress from last season making the top 6 championship however we are miles away from the top 4 teams even further away from TNS who just absolutely dominated the league every year! We finished the season 5th without better finances we cannot upgrade the facilities therefore we need to win a cup and hope for European money to push us along otherwise 5th place is probably our limit for the time being,

Cup- Struggled in the MG cup knocked out early on again. However we managed to get to the final of the Welsh Cup unfortunately we came up against TNS who were on for the treble! We gave a good account of ourselves but the quality was too much going down 1-0

Notable Player Performances

Jonathan Grifiths-Holme 21H - Player of the Year put in some solid performances at the back progressing very nicely

James Rodon 21A - Didn't reach the heights of last season but still one of our key performers

Barry Reed 21O - Good season from the right back progressing very well

Our u19s won the league!!!

Youth Candidates - "Golden Generation" again but the quality doesn't seem to be much better than what we currently have lots of interest in my current squad but the welsh league seems to be a nightmare for selling players as every offer seems to $0 over and over again. Need prize money to upgrade our facilities so we can attract interest from England to sell for cash otherwise its going to be a slow process with upgrading.

Ben Reynolds 24A - Good Right back that could take Barry Reed's spot over time

Leighton Davis 24J - Goalkeeper to try and push our current back ups

Thanks for the advide, @dkouv and @vikeologist. Much appreciated, even the hidden part :)

He luckily signed for me, on what is very favorable terms for the club. A two year deal with an option for the club to extend the deal with further two years.

I did give him a solid base wage considering his age, but I think it is worth it.

The new contract also ended the current interest from other clubs. There will be new clubs interested though, but now I have done all I can until the board accepts an offer over my head.

Going forward, I will definitely be more aware of agreeing regular contracts with my most promising youngster right away after intake.

I guess this was never really a problem in Northern Ireland, because the players were usually not good enough to generate any interest, and the ones that were, normally would not want to sign a regular
contract with my low reputation club anyway.
