b4usiddhu2
Challenge Progress Update | Sep 2024 | Shandong Luneng Taishan | Bosnia & Herzegovina Well a nightmarish experience in china. Joined Shandong being at 6th place with 8 games left in 2023. Couldn't improve their league position from 6th. Did a 200M transfer business and thought I had the team to perform well only to realise the foreigner rules impacted my transfer business and first team selections massively. Struggled to perform better and lingered in mid table pretty much whole time. 8th in the league table and with couple of ultimatums from the board, got fired eventually in Sep 2024 being at 8th in the table with 6 games left in the season. The FA cup performance was better, being qualified to the final only to not play it now as I got sacked now. Oh well, will search for some other country, I don't think China is for me with the overseas transfer rules. Meanwhile, Bosnia & Herzegovina came in for me, and I felt it is a good start for management in Europe. They were just out of Euros when they approached for me. Only have European International League games in the schedule, hopefully I can get the WC qualifiers soon. Bad start here as well, with 2 losses in 2 games against Turkey and Croatia already. goonergez
France: World Cup 2086 My departure from Columbia left me feeling a little sad after investing a large amount of my time in trying to win the Copa America with them. In the end my record was pretty decent though. We reached the final of said Copa America twice and although we lost them both by a single goal that’s a pretty decent achievement in itself. On top of that there were a further two appearances in Quarter Finals at the World Cup. We simply couldn’t get over the line though and I wasn’t surprised to be sent packing from my position. In truth I’d already decided that I would depart at the end of the Copa America 2084 anyways, although hoping to have gone further than a Quarter Final exit to the USA. I remained unemployed for just shy of a year, desperately hinting out a new international position. The club side of this challenge is done for me and time is running out before I get my PlayStation and shelf this save. Eventually I was picked up as the new manager of France, who relinquished their previous manager the same time I departed Columbia. The early days of my reign went well. We suffered a loss at home to wales 0-2 in World Cup qualifying, but thankfully won four matches to pip them on goal difference. After that we beat Bosnia in a friendly in March before seeing off South Africa 3-0 as a warm up to the World Cup. The World Cup wasn’t my focus really with the European Championships the trophy I need to complete Europe. That being said it would prove important to impress the French FA with a good showing here in order to keep my job. A 1-1 draw with Australia wasn't a particularly impressive start, but we did well to bounce back and see off Haiti to qualify for the knockout stages as group winners. First up was a pretty comfortable and comprehensive win over Norway before we faced our first real test of the tournament. An entertaining tie with England went from one end to the other, eventually ending 3-3 after extra time. We missed our first penalty but then scored the remaining as two English players missed. Victory putting us into the Quarter Finals where we met another stern task in Brazil. We absolutely dominated the game but just didn’t take our chances. After extra time the game ended 2-2 and meant a second shoot out of the tournament. The shoot out was intense before we prevailed 6-5 to reach the semi finals. The semi final was where our run would end though, matching the expectations of the FA pre tournament. A narrow defeat to Portugal after extra time sending us packing. We actually dominated the game but we’re wasteful in front of goal. We did manage to win the 3rd placed play off though, a 3-0 victory ending our tournament. Since then we’ve moved onto qualification for the European Championships. We have three wins from three so far which is very pleasing. The Euros are my focus with France and now the preparations begin to get us into a position to try and win it and chalk off the trophy. goonergez
France: 2088 European Championships I hoped losing in the semi finals of the World Cup wouldn’t have us fighting off any sort of hangover, but it definitely did. The Nations League would take place in the months following the World Cup and we would go in and have an absolute stinker. Two wins opened us up before we lost two and drew two to miss out on the knockout stage of the competition. Turkey finished as our group winners although we did manage to finish above Serbia and Romania. It wasn’t a very satisfying run for us though. After that disappointment we moved on to the real important stuff though, qualification for the upcoming European Championships. We were handed a pretty simple qualification group but did a very efficient job of booking our spot in the tournament. We secured qualification after six straight wins and would go on to end the group unbeaten and with a very healthy goal difference. A 3-3 comeback draw with Belgium a particular highlight as we chased an unbeaten campaign. Making the tournament proper was an absolute must and we ended up doing it in style. We entered the tournament ranked number six in the world and listed among the favourites to win it. For me winning it was vital as I look to finally chalk off the two remaining trophies I need for the challenge. We entered it with a pretty straightforward squad and ready to challenge for the honour. Prior to the beginning of the tournament we beat Austria and Iceland in a couple of warm up friendlies too, the perfect preparation. We were drawn into w tough group but did a really efficient job to qualify as group winners. We opened up with a tight 1-0 victory over Slovenia, a game in which we dominated but wouldn’t score until the final ten minutes. After that we saw off Germany 3-1 in a real thriller of a game. We made a few changes for the final group game having already clinched qualification, seeing off Wales to reach the knockout stages. That was as far as we managed to go though, crashing out to an efficient Belgian side in the Second around. My hunt for this trophy goes on. Unsurprisingly my position as French manager was ended as the tournament concludes. Now I hunt for a new nation to have another go at trying to chalk off the two remaining trophies I require. goonergez
Italy Takeover: 2090 My quest for a new job went on for two years until finally I was given my return to management. An efficient Italian side had narrowly lost in the World Cup final to Mexico and relieved their manager of his position. I applied alongside a host of other international jobs and was eventually chosen as the new Italy manager. My target here is simple, and that’s to win the European Championships in a couple of years time. The squad here is fantastic and ranked 2nd in the world rankings. I have faith I can do it, and that would leave me with just the Copa America to conquer. In the immediate future is the Nations League and hopefully I can use that as an opportunity to get my squad chosen and used to my tactical approach. I’m excited to be here, and so is the Italian footballing world. Hopefully this will be a quick job just to chalk off the tournament I need. Crispypaul
CrispypaulNapoli Serie A 2033/34 League - Season Review 1 | Season Review 2 - a pretty good season but Juventus were absolutely dominant. Italian Cup - Fixtures - did pretty well until getting stuffed away at AC Milan in the first leg of the semis. Finances - no problems here Transfers - we had far too many players, particularly for a 38 game league season and one cup, so culled a lot here. Squad Key players Ferney Mercado - I signed him from Boca and he did not let me down Lorenzo Pirola - experienced centre half signed from Fulham Guy Alves - great Belgian left winger Bartłomiej Drągowski - signed the experienced keeper after he was released from Athletic Madrid Branislav Momic - a bargain £4m signing from Partizan Belgrade, a very prolific season Gianpiero Amore - great centre half from the youth system Future - I am going to make some changes during the next transfer window in an attempt to catch Juventus. b4usiddhu2
I didn't understand the below part regarding the challenge, can anyone help me understand. MLS (USA) - For challenge purposes the MLS Cup counts as the league, and the US Open Cup counts as the cup. The Canadian Championship unless you have the official Canadian league add-on), and the league section of the MLS (Supporters Shield) don't count for anything. Neither does the Leagues Cup with US and Mexican teams count towards the challenge. I am in FM20, so what does these competitions known? I am with Atlanta United currently, and this is how they look like.

Basically you have to win the thing on the left (the league) and/or the thing on the right (the cup). The thing in the middle doesn't count towards the challenge. Finishing high or even top will obviously be an advantage in The MLS Playoffs, but if you 'win' the MLS Supporters Shield, but don't win the playoffs, you haven't won the league for the purposes of the challenge. Which is good news for you, because you did not win the Supporters Shield. Now you just need to beat Chicago and everybody else who has the temerity to try to come between you and the title. I will edit the start of the thread to make it clearer. Maybe FM doesn't have the right to use the proper names for the competitions. My bad. I don't play in America, and when I do, I stop playing in America real quick. If anybody is still not clear, please do let me know. I try to keep things up to date and clear, but it's possible over the years things become unclear or just plain wrong. Yeah, I get that the Supporters' Shield shouldn't count towards anything, as that is a combination of two conferences, but not all teams play against all others. The Conference' League Final winner should count as the league winner which is now clear from the explanation. P.S. I was clear first in East conference with just needing 6 points from last five games. Won only one of them and lost the first spot as well as a direct entry to semi final by Goal difference Well, may be I just have to beat Chicago in the Quarters' who were one of the teams beat me in the final five games. It's nit because the Supporters Shield is a combination of conferences. It's just the way that American sports are. You have a regular season which controls places / home advantage for playoffs. Like, I'm a (proper) Football fan, and my team, the Vikings (in case you always assumed my username meant that I like to rape and pillage or collect Nazi tattoos) have never won the Superbowl. We've won our conference quite a few times, and our division even more often, but basically we have never won anything. Ever, and we're not the only one. In Football every year you have 1 winner and 31 losers. In fact MLS is the exception with these extra cups. It's very Oprah. You get a cup and you get a cup. b4usiddhu2
Career Update | Feb 2027 | Atlanta United FC | Ivory Coast A long delay in update after getting fired from Shandong in China. Was dwelling offers from different clubs while managing Bosnia & Herzegovina in their European International league. After 7 months, Genoa CFC came up with an interesting offer being 15th in the league table with 6 games left in the season. Thought they would give fair chance for me next season and accepted the offer only to lose the final game and finish 18th and get relegated. Obviously they fired me immediately Just a month of club management. And the search started again. Atlanta United looked as a good proposition to win something in the NA. Joined them in Nov 2025. Did a couple of good transfers, but mostly their existing squad was good enough except when injuries occurred. MLS 2026: I was clear first in East conference with just needing 6 points from last five games to finish at the top. Won only one of them and lost the first spot as well as a direct entry to semi final by Goal difference The final month's loss of form didn't help in the playoffs either where I lost in the first round itself. However, it was very successful season where I dominated the whole season and all stat areas. US Cup: Won fourth and fifth round against non MLS teams only to lose on penalties against Houston Dynamo in the Quarter Final. International Management: Bosnia didn't excite me as they were didn't qualify to the World Cup. As soon as I took over Atlanta United, three days later, Ivory Coast popped up for an offer to manage. They have qualified to World Cup and also are about to play AFCON qualifiers. Looked a great option. World Cup 2026 - Was drawn against France and Qatar in a relatively straight forward group. Demolished Qatar and lost against France as expected and qualified to Second round as second place in the group. Drawn against England in the Second round, pushed them to ET and won it 2-1 in the ET. Third Round was against Italy. drew 1-1 after extra time and then lost in the lottery of penalties. Not a bad world cup performance. ( Italy were the eventual winners of the world cup. Chile were the surprise package as the runners up) AFCON Qualifiers: Immaculate qualifying performance with 6 wins from 6 games in a easy group. AFCON 2027: Another easier group stage and unbeaten record with 2 wins and a draw, qualified to knockouts as top seed. Second round was a comfortable win against minnow Angola with 2-0 score line. Then came the Quarterfinal against fellow powerhouse Ghana. A scrappy 1-0 win was all needed to go to the semis. Then came the match of the tournament against Algeria in the semifinal. It ended 6-4 with both sides attacking end to end. A well deserved win put us against Mali in the final being the surprise winners of the other semifinal against Nigeria. The final failed to lived up to the semifinal game and we ended up thrashing Mali with 6-1 score line. Wonderful performance to win the African Cup of Nations and my 1st International tournament of the challenge. Challenge Progress: Glad to get my 1st international tournament checked off. Will be continuing with Atlanta United for this season to see if I can try to win either US cup or NACL if possible. MLS playoffs will be bonus but it takes a lottery at the end to win that. Not sure about continuing with Ivory Coast, I might continue as the current squad is very good but the next world cup is in 3 years time, that's a long way. May be I will move onto some other team in another continent if chance presents itself.
GironaJim
Rocha FC - Season 1 Competitions I decided to come and join this challenge sorry if it is a little bit late. I decided to start in Uruguay and immediatley took over the vacant role of Rocha FC. I think at this level much of the squads are similar but I thought we had a very decent side. We started off well enough picking up a fair few points early on. In fact throughout the season we only were outside the playoff spots for two weeks. The remainder of the time we were in the playoff hunt. By the time the last game of the season came round we had all but secured promotion. We knew a win would give us a chance of winning the title, we did not manage it as we drew our last game and we finished 2nd and got promotion. Not a bad way to start of the journey. GironaJim
Wanderers FC - Season 2 Competitions I took Rocha into the First Division and to be honest we did not do so well. In the Opening Stage we got Four Points. I thought we could have gotten a few more but the squad was just not good enough to challenge at this level. We just seemed to loose in every game and to be fair we lost badly in most of them. I took them into the Intermido Cup and we did pick up a win but we did not have enough to go through we ended in 6th. At this stage we went into the Closing Stage and we won and drew two and I was fairly happy but then Wanderers FC who had just lost the last three games had sacked their manager. As one of the biggest clubs in Uruguay I had to jump at the chance to take them. We did amazing and actually finished the period in 3rd but this saw us 11th overall. I was pleased with how we finished and I think we have a really good chance going into next year. goonergez
Italy: 2092 European Championships After suffering defeat in the 2090 World Cup final it was me that the Italian FA turned to in order to try and win the European Championships two years later. My takeover was exciting and everything went to plan in my early stages at the helm. My first challenge was to navigate the Nations League and we did it in style. We won all of our group matches to book our spot in the semi finals and with hope of winning the competition. A last gasp goal saw off the number one team in the world in Portugal and booked us a place in the final against France, my former side. We produced one of the best performances I have seen during my career as we absolutely blitzed our way to the Nations League crown. We were sublime from the first whistle and never looked in doubt of winning it. A fantastic start to my reign and one that would set up our qualification campaign for the aforementioned Euros. Again we controlled our campaign from start to finish to book our spot in the main tournament. We were superb at the back and absolutely sublime up top as we romped our way to a position as group winners and qualification with ease. A 2-2 draw against Bulgaria was our only negative, but thankfully that result came after we had already secured our qualification and so wasn’t particularly relevant in the end. An 11-0 drubbing of Gibraltar was our most pleasing performance but in truth we were brilliant throughout. With that our preparations for the European Championships was over and it was time to take part in the one tournament that really mattered. I came to Italy to win this, and in all honesty it was the only thing my reign would be judged upon. We entered it with a superb record, winning all but one of my matches at the helm. Goal scoring hadn’t been a problem and defensively my side was well equipped and solid. I was confident we could go a long way in the tournament and to be honest anything other than a trophy would have to be judged as a disappointment. Our tournament began in the worst way as we found ourselves fighting back from behind against Norway in what looked like a real banker of a game. Thankfully we did complete a tour around victory though, winning 2-1 to get our tournament up and running. Next up we faced Romania who had shockingly defeated France in their opening match. We weren’t at our best but a goal in each half gave us a 2-0 victory and progression into the knockout rounds with a game to spare. A late goal saw us defeat the French 1-0 to complete a clean sweep in our group. The knockout stages of the tournament proved fairly straightforward as our solid defensive line helped us to pick up progression relatively easily. We got fortunate with a fairly nice run to the final but still had to pick up results and we did. We scored goals and looked dangerous throughout but it really was defensively where we impressed. The final would see us take on the ever impressive Portugal who would definitely give us a real tough task. They did indeed give us a tough game as we had to fight all the way until the end to get our hands on the trophy. We actually did well to hold on throughout the initial 90 minutes before we improved during extra time and created more than our opponents. We took the lead right on the stroke of half time extra time and I thought that would be enough to see us home. It wouldn’t be though, a debatable penalty right at the death forcing us through the agony of a shoot out. Thankfully we held out nerve to win though, leaving me with just the one trophy left to collect. It’s taken me a lot longer than anybody else but we are at least close to the end now. I walked away from my job with Italy once our celebrations had died down and looked for a job in South America looking to chalk off the last remaining trophy, the Copa America Season Club Competition Position Notes & Achievements 2020/21 Uthongathi FC SA First Division 2nd 2021/22 Uthongathi FC SA First Division 1st (C) SA First Division Winners 2022/23 SuperSport United SA Premier 2nd SA Knockout Cup Winners 2023/24 SuperSport United SA Premier 3rd 2024/25 SuperSport United SA Premier 2nd Confederations Cup Winners, SA Cup Winners 2025/26 SuperSport United SA Premier 1st (C) SA Premier League Winners, SA Cup Winners, CAF Super Cup Winners, Super-8 Cup Winners, 2026/27 SuperSport United SA Premier 3rd SA Knockout Cup Winners, CAF Champions League Winners 2027 Beijing Gouan Chinese Super League 6th 2028 Beijing Gouan Chinese Super League 2nd Chinese FA Cup Winners 2029 Beijing Gouan Chinese Super League 2nd Asian Champions League Winners, Chinese FA Cup Winners 2030 Beijing Gouan Chinese Super League 1st (C) Chinese Super League Winners, Chinese Super Cup Winners 2031 DC United MLS East Conference 6th 2032/33 River Plate Argentinian Premier 5th Copa Argentinos Winners 2033/34 River Plate Argentinian Premier 2nd Copa Sudamericana Winners, Copa Argentinos Winners, Argentinian Super Cup Winners, Sudamericana Super Cup Winners 2034/35 River Plate Argentinian Premier 2nd Copa Libertadores Winners, Sudamericana Super Cup Winners 2035 Seattle Sounders MLS Western Conference 5th MLS Western Conference Winners 2036 Seattle Sounders MLS Western Conference 1st (C) MLS Cup Winners, Supporters Shield Winners, MLS Western Conference Winners, Leagues Cup Winners 2037 Seattle Sounders MLS Western Conference 1st MLS Western Conference Winners, Supporters Shield Winners, Campeones Cup Winners 2038/39 Mainz FC/ Schalke 04 Bundesliga - vikeologist
@goonergez Well, thank goodness for that. You had me worried with one f the screenshots because I went straight to what I thought must have been the final between Holland and Portugal, and then wondered what had gone wrong with you, but clearly, very little is the answer. So, now the question is not whether you'll complete the challenge, but which century. The Copa America is every 2 years, right? It wll be interesting to see f Brazil give you a job again. Some nations tend not to give second chances, but you have Argentina in reserve anyway.
shirajzl
As a long time reader and a Hall of Famer of this challenge, I decided to give this a go recently. Apart from the very lucky FMT 18 run (I realized that in subsequent tries over the years), I've never managed to complete it and I got reminded yet again why. Started in Chinese 2nd division, got promoted, won two titles in a row, won the AFC CL, sailing, right? Yeah, apart from two Chinese Cup final losses in a row. I won't even mention the xGs in those games. I wanted to move on, but I couldn't, needed that cup. Staying is tedious, moving is even worse. Thinking what to do, the ACON approached with me managing Nigeria. You guessed it, lost in the final. At that moment I got some serious flashbacks and gave up. On top of that, thinking back I remember that this challenge can become a grind even in a completely opposite way. At one moment you lose patience and when you earn a rep high enough, you start hopping from Bayerns to PSGs of this world, winning everything in first try, which makes the whole experience a bit boring and even more tiresome. It loses some value, but you can't seriously force yourself to go to Everton when Man City job is available at the same time. Not sure what's the meaning of this post. I guess I wanted to encourage everyone, but reading back I failed miserably.
goonergez
Career Update: September 2095 Having finally got my hands on the European Championships with Italy it would be a long three years before I managed to pick up a new gig in international management. When I say a new one, ironically it would be yet another second stint with a nation as I made my return to the USA over twenty years after winning the Gold Cup and walking away. My goal here is a simple one, although I am not sure if actually achieving it will prove as simple. I'm here to win the one trophy that has eluded my career so far, the Copa America. Having looked around for various jobs in South America it became increasingly clear that I wasn't likely to be offered a position. For that reason I set my sights on the USA who from what I have seen have competed at some of the previous editions of the Copa America. There is an edition of that competition next summer and I am really hoping that USA are in it and I will get an opportunity to lift the trophy. The USA side are ranked 15th in the world meaning that we should be pretty competitive. We won't enter it as favourites, but we definitely stand a chance of going a long way. Before that is the North American Nations League though and with it the opportunity to lift yet another honour. Hopefully this challenge has just one year remaining for me, although I have a feeling it may be a little longer than that. I may have to put in a good showing with the USA in order to pick up a position at one of the big South American sides. Crispypaul
CrispypaulNapoli Serie A 2034/35 League - Season Review 1 | Season Review 2 - after strengthening the squad we were in a much better position and eventually lifted the title. Italian Cup - Fixtures - nice and short run because we're in Europe which ended up with us defeating AC Milan to lift the cup. Champions League - Fixtures | Table - I looked at a group of Bayern Munich, Real Madrid and Lille and thought 3rd place was our aim. After smashing Lille at home in our first game and winning in Munich that changed and we ended up winning the group. In the first knockout round Porto were beaten comfortably. In the quarters a good draw away in Berlin was followed by a comfortable home win to set up a tie against giants Man City. An entertaining 3-3 draw at the Etihad gave us hope, in the home leg it looked like extra time was inevitable until in the 94th minute Mercado scored to get us into the final against surprise team Bayer Leverkusen. They were beaten well to lift the CL, for me at the 3rd attempt. Finances - all fine Transfers - we definitely needed strengthening, although our net spend was actually modest Squad Key players Ferney Mercado - excellent as usual Lorenzo Pirola - solid at the back again Guy Alves - great on the wing Branislav Momic - scored over 50 goals.. David Papp - bargain Hungarian striker Jeremy Odutato - excellent Dutch defender Scott Orr - very good English winger signed on a free from Man City Future - I resigned at the end of the season, not long after a big job came up in England and I am now Liverpool manager. Crispypaul
Mexico Gold Cup 2035 Group Stages - Table | Fixtures - as expected we won all 3 games, although beating Guyana 14-0 was something else Quarter Final Spoiler Mexico 4 Curacao 0 - easy peasy Semi Final (if applicable) Spoiler Canada 0 Mexico 5 - well that went well. USA in the final of course. Final (if applicable) Spoiler Mexico 0p USA 0 - we were absolutely dominant, would have won comfortably if not for the USA keeper whom was man of the match. However his heroics were not enough for the penalty shootout which we won to lift the cup. I am staying on as I have a feeling that Mexico are going to be in the Copa America in 2036, if not I will resign after the upcoming CONCACAF Nations League. vikeologist
Maybe some of you have seen that the Touch version of the game has had developments announced. (If you haven't seen them, just pop over to that part of the forum). One element of the announcement was that SI are planning to make 'Versus' a part of the full fat game for FM23 (i.e. not the version about to come out). I think this could be a lot of fun for this challenge, and maybe other ones as well, where we are able to pit our best teams from anywhere in our challenge against other people's to find out what one may call The Ultimate Ultimate Manager. Like I say, Dafuge and Youth could do that as well, but they won't have such a cool title. However, there have been people who do this challenge on Touch. AFAIK only 3 people have ever completed it on Touch (or Classic as it used to be known). I didn't realise or remember that Normandy Wept's longest ever challenge attempt was on Touch, which means that I hold the record for full fat pointlessness, or rather I did until the epic @goonergezathon. Anyway, 2 things. 1. If anybody has been doing this challenge on Touch, would it be possible to hold a little mini-tournament to decide the UUFM FM21 Touch Challenge? I haven't even downloaded Touch for ages, and I'm not actually aware that any of you are currently doing it on Touch, but if you have been, and think this is workable and a fun idea, let me know. 2. As I say, you're allowed to do this challenge on Touch, but clearly there are now more 'platforms' than I realised. There still will be an FM Touch of a sort, but should we open up this challenge to FM Mobile and FM XBox Edition? If we do, someone who actually plays on those platforms will have to help me with the 'rules' and guidance and decide what is different / the same. As I say, I have the sense that we are all doing this on Full Fat anyway.

I haven't played Touch so can't comment on point number 1, for Mobile I do know that restrictions on number/availability of leagues and game time mean you would have to run the challenge quite differently. You can have a max 4 leagues loaded and the game only goes for 30 seasons. I have played Mobile for the last couple of years until I am ready for Full Fat FM again (might be this year?) and I have played with the idea of doing a version of this challenge. To make it somewhat close to it you could load one league in Europe, one in North America, Argentina (only South American league available) and one in Asia. In the 30 seasons you would have then to the four different continental competitions and the top league/cup of each country (except for Mexico - so maybe you have to pick MLS?). By loading these leagues you do get national teams of all continents available to manage, even Africa, so you could stick to the same tournaments on the international side of things. By winning less tournaments it does make the challenge easier, but at the same time you do only have 30 seasons so cant really afford to lose any international tournaments. The other thing is, whilst I would likely participate in the challenge, I dont know how many others would - the general forums for Touch and Mobile are relatively quiet so think the audience here may be limited. Thanks for your thoughts. Yours is a good idea, but perhaps also the 30 season limit would also lend itself to a points challenge, i.e. points for each competition you win (on a sliding scale). With so many differences, your idea would in effect be a different challenge, but it is a pity that more Touch / Mobile players haven't taken part in challenges. Given today's news, it looks like it might be too late, although on the other hand if someone's not going to get FM22 Touch, what better time to start a FM21 Touch Challenge. As for Mobile, I'll be honest. I barely registered there was a FM Mobile version. I think it would be a fantastic idea to have a sort of Mobile Pentagon challenge, (which is the smaller version of this). Admittedly with only 4 nations, Square Challenge doesn't sound as good, but there you are.

It doesnt have anywhere near the level of depth to really get immersed into it, but better than nothing I am seriously contemplating getting FM22, if I dont and stick to Mobile I might create a thread for Mobile challenges. I do my own Mobile version of what is in this forum and might be interesting to see if others do too and share the experience.
SK
Season 2040/41 Since my last update, I got offered two big jobs within quick succession, Barcelona and Brazil. So despite knocking off another major trophy the end of the season made me feel pretty meh League- as you can see absolute domination. Probably the most consistent I’ve ever played. Annoyingly the loss came on the last game of the season. I broke a stack of records and as you can see with the team of the season below I completely dominated it. Super Cup- not important but won it beating Real Madrid then Atletico Madrid. Cup- absolutely bottled this losing to a second division side albeit one that was fully rotated. Champions League- had a very easy group where I was qualified with 2 games to spare. Drew Spurs in the Round of 16. I took a 2-0 lead and was looking good and then conceded a goal from nothing. I then scored again to make it 3-1 before conceding on the last kick of the game to win 3-2. That goal proved costly as I lost the return leg 3-1 and I was out. In this game I had it back to 2-1 at the 90th min so had I not conceded late in the first leg I could’ve closed the game out. CWC. This was another frustrating affair as I got injuries left right and centre and some players had youth internationals on. This Meaning that some games I only had 4-5 subs. Not ideal given the lack of fitness. I beat Int 1-0 in what was a hard fought game and then Jeonbuk 2-0. In the QF I had an epic 4-3 ET win against Madrid. Twice I gave away the lead in normal time. This game cooked my Squad and I was shattered come the SF where I lost 2-0 to city. Nothing really to report with Brazil, won most my games so far and have qualified for the WC. SK
So now I’ve got a dilemma on my hands, do I stay for 4 years at Barca for another crack at the CWC and try win the CL in the meantime. Thinking 4 years will give me ample time to build a phenomenal Squad and try and reduce the risk of fatigue as much as possible. Alternatively I could look for to an English club and try tick off the English parts of the game whilst also prepping for a CL/CWC win. I am leaning towards staying in Spain, Barca will give me a good crack at the CL and I still need to win the domestic cup anyways (so regardless I am looking at one more season either here or somewhere else to do that). Any thoughts would be appreciated on this especially if you've been in a similar boat. CWC is the main concern tbh as it is a nightmare being every 4 years. It shouldn't take you 4 years to take over an English club and win the CL and CWC with them. I think you'll be super bored if you stay in Spain. Would this be the first time you've stayed somewhere just to win one thing(in this case 2 things). I can barely stand staying in a nation for one year just to win the cup, and the nature of cups is there's never any guarantee you're going to win them. If you fail to win the CWC in 4 years with an English side, then there would be an argument for staying then. Even if you get the PSG job, I think an English side would give you the best chance in the CWC, In fact ideally you'll stop off in France next before arriving in England in 4 years to get the CWC. There's no harm staying in Spain for another year to see how frustrating you find it, just caring about the CL.
SK
@vikeologistThats a great insight. To be honest I did think that, would’ve been 4 years of just playing CL games which would drag it out. Only time I’ve stayed someone for one thing was the ACL with Guangzhao which was like 5 years, necessary though. Funnily enough the PSG has just become available for only the third time in the game. So I think I’ll try get that and tick France off the list. Think I’ll play it by ear on whether it becomes a 4 year cycle or not, hopefully something in England pops up. Also, do you know where you can view the club rankings at?

Also, do you know where you can view the club rankings at? You can look at club reputations in the 'nations' part of the menu, but I don't think that should be the basis of your decision which English club to aim for. You need a club in the Champions League already, so that narrows it down to 4. You want healthy finances. You want their best players to fit into your tactics. It doesn't matter if the squad are all old, except if you were to take over an English club now, you would need them to be mostly under 30 just because you're going to spend 4 years there, but hopefully you get the PSG job. (PSG never offer me a job. Obviously still sulking from 845.

Do you know (or anyone else reading)? It looks like it's the winners and runners up but beyond that I assumed it would be based on co-efficient ranking. However, Barca were like 9th/10th and had 3 round of 16 exits and one QF exit in the CL so I am not sure how they actually qualified. Only thing I can think is that they were runner up of the previous CWC and the winner had qualified already (by winning a later CL). Reason I want to know is it may assist me in picking an English Club if I know they are qualified already. On a positive PSG offered me the job so I think I will take it. Good chance to knock France off without having to overthrow PSG haha. Annoying you didn't get offered one. I am stoked they did for me tbh.

It takes into account the club's performances in continental competitions the preceding 4 seasons. So, no, I never really understood how it was worked out, plus i think I might not have taken part in FM21 anyway. In FM20, I was basically guessing, but honestly my advice is to take no chances, and make sure that you're in charge of a team that has won the Champions League in the preceding 2 years before the cup and is one of the top in coefficients. That's what I did in FM20. However, I think that it's the winners of the last 4 Champion Leagues, and then the next highest ranked clubs after that. goonergez
I’ve been a bit lax with regards to FM recently but I am still plodding along with this challenge. I resigned from USA barely six months into the role after losing 0-3 to Mexico in the final of the North American Nations League and finding out they didn’t enter the Copa America. I then remained unemployed until the turn of the century (🙈🙈🙈) desperately seeking a position in South America. Eventually I was employed by Uruguay. So far my time has gone ok but in truth we stand no chance of winning the upcoming Copa America. Hopefully I can put in a decent enough showing to be given a position with a new nation to try and win it in four years time. In honesty I think my chance to complete this challenge has gone though, especially with only a couple of weeks to go until FM 22 is released. In honesty I think my chance to complete this challenge has gone though, especially with only a couple of weeks to go until FM 22 is released. May I offer, let's not call it advice, more an alternative. Your best chance of winning the Copa America is with Brazil, or maybe Argentina. Just holiday until the end of the Copa America, and world Cups, and f neither of those jobs become available, holiday to the next one. It really doesn't take much time to holiday to them. (Well, your database is probably huge now, so your game probably runs as fast as I do these days, but you can go on holiday and come back later). It really doesn't matter if you don't achieve until the late 22nd century. Your manager's not going to die, or be reduced to selling his 99 year old body on the streets because he hasn't had a job in years. Al that matter is getting the Brazil job in the next week and a bit. If the Brazil and Argentina jobs become available, and they don't give it to you, that's a problem. There is a danger your reputation will diminish, but it's questionable whether being the manager of Uruguay will help. If you're going to go down that route, you'd be better off with a top European nation who might win the World Cup or Euro. There's no geographical advantage to Uruguay. Not at international level. I think your world rep is more important than continental in that regard. My alternative is not to bother with Uruguay unless you think there's a very strong chance you can win the Copa America with them. The imminent arrival of the new game is a pain. Can't finish my current challenge. Can't finish my current Youth challenge by abandoning the challenge and buying players. Not worth starting a new save. Anyway, I start a new job, (or rather return to my old job from 18 months ago) in 3 weeks, so I shouldn't be wasting my time on FM in any case. goonergez
@vikeologistthe issue is that I have been rejected by both Brazil and Argentina on multiple occasions. My hope was that with Uruguay I may produce a shock or at least go far in the tournament to gain the notice of those big nations. Trust me I have been holidaying between tournaments but I feel I may have become a bit stuck for spending too long out of club management, I’ve never gone this far into a save (my previous furthest was about 2040) so I don’t really understand all the mechanics of it if I’m honest. Ah well, if they've rejected you, that's a problem. I mean I failed to achieve the challenge once in almost the same position, I had the Euro and Asian Cup to win, and the Euros would have been fine eventually, but there were no Asian nations left to hire me. There's more than one reason why they may not be hiring you. One i world reputation, so I understand feeling that might be an avenue. Brazil might not give you the job because you managed them before, but that shouldn't be the case with Argentina. I have no idea if ageism comes into it. Nobody has ever gone this far into a journeyman challenge on this forum, but I don't think age is a factor when the manager's 60 or 70, so I can't see it being one for you. Maybe Argentina are coded against hiring foreign managers. It is possible to win the Copa America with Uruguay, but it depends how good the current squad are, and whether they suit your tactics. At least at Uruguay you must feel you have a chance of pulling the Copa America off. Note: I usually try to avoid giving people advice on this thread. I've been doing it recently because I know the clock is ticking to the next game, and time may be of the essence.

I feel like sticking here is the best option at the moment just in case I manage to pull off the unthinkable with Uruguay. I don’t personally see it happening but I never know. If not then it’s been a real learning curve. I’ve really enjoyed the challenge and will definitely be returning on the next edition. It’s taken me to places I’ve never dreamt of going before and there’s definitely some more I’d like to try next year. I think my issue was that I steered clear of international management for too long. Then left myself in a position where I needed both the Copa America and the Euros and they run simultaneous to each other. It’s definitely been a learning curve in how to approach the international side of things.
Crispypaul
CrispypaulLiverpool EPL 2035/36 League - Season Review 1 | Season Review 2 - a great season with over 100 points, to lift the title FA Cup - Fixtures - pretty straightforward until the semis. There we faced Man Utd whom it took a penalty shootout to beat. In the final we completely dominated against Leeds, taking us all the way to extra time however two goals in that period were enough to lift the FA Cup Europa League - Fixtures | Table - stuffed everyone in an easy group. RB Salzburg were no challenge either in the 2nd knockout round. More of a challenge with Chelsea in the quarter finals but two good wins got us through. Lille were swept aside in the semis. We faced my old team Hoffenheim in the final, a game where defending was clearly optional however we won in extra time to lift the trophy for the first time since that Alves final in 2001. League Cup - Fixtures - did ok to get to the semis until a couple of poor performances knocked us out Finances - great as expected for England Transfers - we had a massive, overly paid squad which I trimmed substantially but I also bought pretty big, including buying Mercado again. Squad Key players Daniel Medina - experienced centre half Ferney Mercado - not as dominant this time but still prolific Saido Manga - high scoring striker Marcelo - another prolific forward Dennis Barret - great winger Future - although that's England done there are no good jobs available in Spain yet, and also the Club World Cup is in 2037 so I am going to just play another season so we can give that another go Various International Things Mexico - I hung about after the Gold Cup in case we were in the Copa America in 2036...and we were not so I resigned Maldives - for a random change I became Maldives manager for the free holidays and a minor regional championship, however this wasn't for a while in the end so I left England - with no other suitable international jobs yet (I need an Asian and a South American team) I became England manager to see if I can win a 3rd successive World Cup (as my successor won in 2034 too) Domestic Season Team Division Position Notes 2020/21 Cape Town Spurs South African 1st 1st Champions, Promoted 2021/22 Cape Town Spurs South African Prem 2nd Qualified for Champions League 2022/23 Cape Town Spurs South African Prem 1st Won CAF CL, Cup, Resigned at end of season 2023/24 Tigres Liga MX 4th/1st Won both Apertura and Clausura, qualifed for CL 2024/25 Tigres Liga Mx 1st/1st Won Apertura, Leagues Cup, CONCACAF CL 2025 Suwon Samsung Bluewings K League 1 2nd Won KFA Cup 2026 Suwon Samsung Bluewings K League 1 1st Won KFA Cup, AFC Champions League 2026/27 Hamburg 1. Depends on what happens with Spain (Zidane and Simeone are still at their respective clubs, and Luis Enrique has been at Barcelona since 2028) and whether I can get the Brazil or Argentina - or South Korea or Australia - international jobs after the 2038 World Cup. berrers
2039 - HERBEI CHINA FORTUNE FC - Finally managed to get some long overdue solid game time in recently and managed to finish another season, I am committed to completing this challenge before I buy the new game ... fm23 will probably be out by then! CHINESE FA CUP A poor defence of our trophy saw us eliminated in the 5th round! AFC CHAMPIONS LEAGUE Foreign player restrictions (only 3 fgn's allowed in CL squad) made the group trickier than it should have been After playing Daegu of Korea in the groups we drew them out in the second round. Having won the 1st leg away 4-2 we nearly threw it away at home losing 2-0 with Daegu missing a late pen which would have seen us eliminated. We blitzed the quarters and semi's turning in a great performance away at holders Beijing Guoan winning 5-1. A Two legged final againsy Al-Sadd of Qatar awaited! 4-2 aggregate win! The damage again was done away from home with a 3-0 win in the second leg. 4/5 of the champions league now won! CHINESE SUPER LEAGUE Start to the league campaign was sloppy and I lost too much ground to claw back despite only losing one of the last eighteen games. Beijing Guoan retain the title INTERNATIONAL - BRAZIL - Beginning of WC 42' (Russia) Qualifying WHAT'S NEXT Winning the champions league was the main target when coming to Asia which has now been achieved so I am on the look out for another move but not really in a great rush as the Chinese season finishes in November and there isn't a great deal out there at present. France is the last of the major leagues I need to win and I only really want to join PSG as I think with anyone else winning Ligue 1 could take some time. Africa is the last champions league I need to complete so as soon as one of Kaizer chiefs, orlando pirates or Sundowns comes up I will throw my hat in the ring. I will tick over at HCFC until a tempting job comes up as I feel I would win the league if I done another season although the rules do drive you with regard to the restrictions on the amount of domestic players you are allowed to buy over the age of 21 per season. Crispypaul
CrispypaulLiverpool EPL 2036/37 League - Season Review 1 | Season Review 2 - fairly comfortable title win FA Cup - Fixtures - too many penalties and extra time plays for my liking, but we got to the final where we beat Wolves eventually. Champions League - Fixtures | Table - pretty comfortable group stage. Getting Barcelona in the knockouts is a bit scary but a good draw in the Nou Camp led to a thumping at Anfield. 4-0 away in Turin against Juventus helped us through the quarter final. We then beat Man City over two legs to set up a final against surprise team RB Leipzig, whom we just got past in the end to lift the European Cup again. League Cup - Fixtures - smash and grab from Leicester in the final Club World Cup - Fixtures | Table - Roma and Boca in the groups is a bit of a tricky one, but we overcame them to set a tie against Gremio of Brazil. A Manga brace was enough to get through to Juventus in the semis. We were smashing them but it only led to a last minute extra time goal to win. In the final Palmeiras of Brazil were opponents, it didn't look great being down 2-0 after 20 minutes but we were tied at half time and two second half goals (despite a late rally) got us to lift the cup Finances - rich Transfers - not as much activity this time, one excellent free transfer Squad Key players Johnny Bedini - signed the England midfielder on a free from Juventus and was expectedly great Ferney Mercado - decent backup! Saido Manga - over 50 goals Dennis Barret - good again Clayton Redding - great winger Ricardo Canas - high scoring season from the long serving striker Ibrahim Coulibaly - dropped £75m on the centre half from Nice and he was superb Victor Racero - top notch left back Future - with the Club World Cup picked up that's it for Liverpool so I resign. I am now looking for a Spanish job if there are any (hardly any turnover in that league weirdly) England Haven't bothered with screenshots - lost in the Nations League final to Germany annoyingly, and am currently in the middle of WC 2038 qualifying. vikeologist
Here's as good a place as any to mourn the end of being able to do a vike. In the new game, managers cannot take over a club the same day as a a match. I coined the phrase doing a vike years ago when I took over a club in the second leg of a 2-leg final. Admittedly I lost, and it's therefore whether I did, in this instance, successfully execute said vike. Obviously doing a vike just means taking over a club in the latter stages of a competition, (which we'll still be able to do) but I will always have fond memories of taking over Corinthians (I believe) and wondering which team was mine. Incidentally, naming something after myself is meant to be a joke, rather than narcissism, but when this challenge took off there was a kind of convention of challenges being named after the person who started them or ran them, and there was a point where I tested the water to see if people were inclined to have this challenge named after me. They were not, so I was all like, never even occurred to me. Now that looks like a dig at the people who do name their challenges after them, but that used to be the convention until a couple of us steered away. goonergez
Ultimate FM Challenge 21: Final Update With just a few days to go until the new edition of this series we love so much is released, it's with sadness that I am calling quits on my save and waving the white flag. Several World Cup and Copa America tournaments have come and gone and I simply cannot get hold of a job which may see me lift that one trophy I require. In truth when I started this save back on the 6th March I never expected to even come close to completion. As it is I end my attempt with just the Copa America eluding my grasp and preventing me from finishing off successfully. I have invested 211 days of game time on this save, albeit some of it where I have just left my laptop on continuously whilst popping out or playing PlayStation. The pandemic certainly enabled me to play a lot more than I normally would, which I guess is the one positive to take from this. I also had a week off work when I tried to slice my finger off with a lorry door. With that much time home alone what is one meant to do. I end my save in July of 2106, a quite ludicrous feat in itself. I took charge of 25 different clubs and 18 nations, winning a ridiculous 84 personal accolades as a manager. On top of that there are 70 different cup competitions and 19 league titles as well. Not every moment of my career was full of success, but there were definitely a lot more highs than lows. For me this challenge was all about experiencing new leagues and scenarios that I would have previously avoided. My beginning nation of South Africa proved unbelievably enjoyable and personally I think my spell in charge of SuperSport United early on was probably one of my favourite passages of this whole save. I also visited the likes of China and America which I would never have done outside of this challenge. I didn't particularly enjoy China, but once I had got my head around the rules in the MLS the league in America fast became one I would like to experience again. I found Europe the toughest nut to crack, regularly struggling to win domestic titles even with squads that should be doing so. FC Porto was a really enjoyable spell for me and was full of trophies, but it took me far too long to lift the league title which probably held me back really. Saying that I did lift the Champions League with them which at the time was an extremely surprising feat. Having another attempt at this challenge I would definitely look to get involved in the international side much earlier than I did. I tried to avoid it for as long as possible and in the end that has probably proven my downfall. Early failures with the likes of Mexico and Brazil also caused me real issues. Those two have spent much of my save as the top two ranked sides in the world and I failed to take advantage whilst in charge of both of them. I think the international side to this challenge certainly takes a lot more consideration than the club side. I'd like to thank everybody in this thread for the support throughout, and especially @vikeologist . Your challenge is exceptional, and you did your utmost to see me through to the end. Hopefully my vast array of jobs has at least kept you somewhat entertained. There have been some really enjoyable reads in this thread and I have really enjoyed venturing into a part of these forums I had never visited. At various times I found myself looking through this thread at work hoping for updates on other peoples saves. Hopefully I have at least intrigued or kept some of you gripped and hopefully we will cross paths again with the release of the new game. For anybody on the fence about trying this challenge out I couldn't give a more positive sell if ever I tried. You will experience leagues and nations you'd never normally choose and you'll experience jumps and bumps along the way. I have enjoyed nearly every moment of my attempt and it is with real sorrow that I don't quite etch my name onto the list of successful challengers. Embarrassingly it would have taken me so much longer than anybody else, but for my first attempt its been a real learning curve. I'll definitely be back on FM22, and if I am honest I am absolutely buzzed for it. Thanks all. Zidane and Simeone are still at the same clubs despite pushing 70 now... England Got to the final of the 2028 World Cup again but lost 1-0 to Italy. I left again and this time joined Australia ahead of the upcoming 2039 Asian Cup. Crispypaul
Australia Asian Cup 2039 Group Stages - Table | Fixtures - Indonesia were easily defeated, we drew against my old team Iran then a good win against Afghanistan got us into the knockouts. 2nd Round Spoiler Australia 3 Oman 0 - straightforward win Quarter Final Spoiler Australia 6 Lebanon 0 - no contest Semi Final (if applicable) Spoiler Saudi Arabia 1 Australia 4 - my striker scored 4 goals which was enough Final (if applicable) Spoiler Syria 1 Australia 6 - Syria scored a screamer in the first minute which was a bit of a shock however we equalised not long after and that was that as we won the Asian Cup. Crispypaul
CrispypaulUnemployed 2038/39 Again, still no club job available in Spain. I can't believe Zidane is still at Real - they haven't won the Champions League at all in this save (and are now in the second season where they haven't even qualified for it) and no silverware since the Copa Del Rey in 2032. vikeologist
@goonergez I'm sorry that you couldn't complete the challenge. I don't want to scare off newbies, but if one doesn't achieve it quickly, that's a possibility. You seem to have taken it better than I did when I couldn't complete with 2 trophies left. I actually felt quite depressed, and asked a couple of people if they wanted to take over the thread. I am sorry that you couldn't complete it though; not least because it leaves me as the person who's taken the longest on the full fat version.
