DEPORTES PUERTO MONTT

Club Overview ~ League Table ~ Squad ~ Finances

So my first port of call is Chile, hopefully manage to save these from relegation, then push on next season. Hopefully I won't get relegated that will be a poor start to this challenge.

@vikeologist well I wouldn't say super close but a couple of FM's back I got 20 or so of the 34 which has been my best attempt, I struggle with the International side of this challenge with how far I got I'd only done 1 part on that challenge.

Season 2023 - Xinjiang Tianshan Leopards

My first full season managing in China was a period to settle in and overhaul a team that finished 14th, just three positions above the relegation zone and thats exactly what I did. I had expected it to take a little while for the team to gel, but after 6 league games in, i saw myself rock bottom last with only 2 points.  Things improved from there and I won the next 3 out of 4 games and climbed to just below mid table which is what I had promised the club.  Managed to do really well in the back half of the season and managed to win 10 out of 13 games at one point to climb up the ladder and finish 7th.  A good platform to carry on from for next season!

AFCON - Ivory Coast

My group consisted of the 3G's - The Gambia, Guinea and Gabon which on paper was a relatively easy group considering we were the host nation and ranked 28th in the world at the time. The fist game was up against The Gambia and whilst it was a complete annihilation of stats, we didnt have our shooting boots on and came away with a 1 - 0 win. Second game was against Guinea and whilst the scoreline showed a 3 - 1 win, it was as straightforward as you may have thought. Last group game was against Gabon where i rested some of the stars as we had already qualified, at the start of the game i had thought this would come back to bite me after conceding the first 6 shots of the game and falling behind in the 8th minute. Luckily the performance improved and 3 second half goals gave me a 4 - 1 win.

On to the second round where we were drawn against Benin - 78th ranked team in the world. A clinical performance with a xG ration of 4.16 lead us to a 5 - 1 demolition with 5 different scorers. Onto Algeria in the QF. We continued our form from the previous game to lead 2 - 0 at HT.  Algeria score just after the break but we then went on to pile in 4 goals to win 6 - 1 and by this stage i was feeling relatively confident!  We drew Cameroon in the Semi with Nigeria playing DR Congo in the other game. A couple of early goals settled the nerves and another goal just after half time sealed the game before being able to substitute my stars to rest them for the final. DR Congo caused an upset and beat Nigeria on penalties after a 4 - 4 drawn game!

Then this happened :seagull:

I didnt get the sack after losing the final, second lost final in a row for the Cote d'Ivoire and so i will try again with them

Deportes-Puerto-Montt_-Fixturese392c5bc797b90b0.png

Just a quick couple of screenshots, we managed to survive on the final day with a 2-1 win. I had 9 games in charge wining 4 drawing 2 and losing 3, from what I've seen so far with this team is that we tend to dominate matches but seem to struggle taking a lead and don't really get going until we fall behind. Saying that I was switching between a 4-2-3-1 and a 5-2-3 wide which probably made it difficult for the team. As for next season the board have given us a decent wage budget so hopefully I can build the team in the way that I want to play.

POST 16: How many competitions!?!?

Started the season with main objective being to win the CONCACAF Champions League, as well as winning the Cup MX after a disappointing attempt last time out.

But it also seems like we've been entered into a whole load of other trophies. There's the Mexican Champions Trophy, the Leagues Cup (for the best teams in Mexico and USA) and the Campeones Cup (for the best Mexican and US team).

image.png.20f8a980bc3b6f7816f20df427119617.png

We started the season strong, defeating Cruz Azul to win the Champions Trophy, and show our strength for the upcoming season.

image.thumb.png.8990adb835f63d91eee4015c2f9c59f3.png

In the next international window, we ensured the Nigeria would be defending their AFCON crown.

We are still with Nigeria, as haven't yet found a better country that wants my services. Planning on resigning after the 2030 World Cup and take it from there.

image.png.348457b5455cc827fb35e1ec51b8c1b3.png

image.png.a935e716d1a694c2d5116cf181feb5c2.png

We then won the Leagues Cup, defeating a load of US teams plus a penalty shootout against rivals Cruz Azul on the way to the title. The final was certainly anticlimactic, with two first half goals followed by a red card for Inter Miami. But more silverware in the cabinet!

image.png.6bb111f5e61148785ad48674faeb2a95.png

A week later we faced another US side, this time NY Red Bulls, in the Campeones Cup. Although we were 2-0 up before half time, and 3-1 up midway through the second half, a late goal from Evandro led to a nervy finish, with them coming forward looking for an equaliser whilst we hung on.

But hang on we did, although the xG did end in their favour, as well as the possession stats! But the players did manage to win yet more silverware, and things were looking promising for out Champions League push.

image.thumb.png.c47c861bdeac553c878c71e64d2a40a5.png

Not used to playing domestic rivals in a Champions League group stage, but that's how things are structured in North America. We played well across the group matches, and comfortably took top spot heading into the knockout phase (although that does only occur a few months afterwards).

image.png.65307956e953d60a9070228e0bb9c97a.png

In the Torneo Apertura, we had a great league stage and carried that momentum into the playoffs, ending up defending our title quite comfortably. A 2-0 first leg victory at home against CF Monterrey allowed us to play defensively at their's, preferring to pass the ball around the back than try and create something to score from. A low xG game, as well not many highlights to feast on.

image.png.a138f094069a5312973ab292959a52de.png

image.png.968e444f0121c54aa274ff969ea6f878.png

Went to AFCON 2029 to defend our crown. They doubted we could do it with an aging squad, but we were so close. Did struggle in the knockouts, needing extra time to see off hosts South Africa and penalties against Mali. After a tight game against Burkina Faso, where we had to manage the player's fitness to see out the game and have something in the tank for the final, we still went into it with a tired squad.

We took a first half lead through striker Victor Osimhen and, surprisingly, looked to be holding on for the win, before Nicolas Jackson equalised for Senegal in the 84th minute to send the game to extra time. This was just 30 minutes more football that our players had nothing to contribute towards. They managed to score again in the 95th minute, and we never looked liked pushing for an equaliser. They even had a very late penalty to seal things off, but the save from Okoye did nothing to inspire a very very late equaliser.

Not sure how good the squad will be for the World Cup in a year and a half, but I plan on resigning after that, as I have taken this team as far as I can.

image.png.e18059bcbf65d9e70fc0da887d020ad6.png

The Champions League knockouts were an interesting mix bag of results. We started with a simple tie against Honduran outfit Motagua, and after the 6-0 first leg win, didn't even bother playing the first team stars in the return leg. We then played Club America again in this campaign, and the 6-4 aggregate scoreline certainly makes the tie sound closer than it really was!  CF Monterrey didn't prove to be a stumbling block, not showing the kind of fight they put in to reach the semi finals (as well as the Torneo Apertura playoff final). And then the final, which was a rollercoaster ride of emotion to watch. A 1-1 first half was followed by a tame second. Pumas scored in the first half of extra time, and it was only a late equaliser from Mexican legend Raul Jimenez that took the tie to penalties. In the shootout, they missed their second spot kick, and the Tigres players held their nerves to win it 5-4, and with it the CONCACAF Champions League!

image.thumb.png.619a5456c9f29ec514848f16b1ddf61a.png

Jimenez played so well that my inbox was flooded with mail praising him for his performance throughout the campaign.

image.png.3718e0ee4bd7f3859e330facde2743d2.png

I had planned on resting first team players for the Torneo Clausura to prioritise the Champions League, but having performed so well in numerous first legs, we were able to play them more domestically than originally planned, allowing us to push for the second domestic title as well.

A bye in the first round was followed by a tie, again, against Cruz Azul. After losing 2-0 in the first leg, we played so much better at home, winning 3-0 and keeping our hopes alive. Next, we played out two 1-1 draws with CF Monterrey, and expecting penalties, was surprised to learn that we had gone through as the higher seeded team! Not gonna complain with that. We played Atletico San Luis, another team that had enjoyed the higher seeding rule to get through two rounds, for the title. The tie was very one sided, and we ran out 4-1 winners.

image.png.98808411a0aa428776928518664752f2.png

We ended the season having lifted 6 different trophies across the campaign! (Shame that only one counted for the challenge.)

The only piece missing is the Copa MX, where we were dumped out in the knockout phase after struggling to second in our group.

Probably means that going to have to stay for one more season. The team is so good that worth just getting it down now, over leaving and having to find something later down the line.

image.png.b7280dc2a3b7f598e4fe2a5742a7b280.png

image.png.bb4b7a855c3f1ad2f3e888d1159e39d5.png

Getting kudos for my achievements, both domestically and internationally!

With no good opportunities arising, definitely thinking of staying put for now.

And then along came the Club World Cup, but that didn't go too well...

image.thumb.png.f3224a8b69636d7ebbd2dfc03e1793b4.png

Although both games were close, losing 2-1 to PSG and 1-0 to Santos, we did lost both and finish bottom of our three team group.

Guess best to expect to win this once I'm managing a big team in Europe. But was worth the try!

Not sure next season will be quite as trophy laden, but will see how it goes. Loving my time in Mexico, but will definitely be leaving after this upcoming campaign.

POST 17: More of the same, please

Here we go again. Another season in Mexico. Another season where we could win a whole host of trophies. And we retained most of our great squad, and added a couple more - a few loanees from the English Premier League and a superstar winger from our old team, Orlando City.

image.png.ffdf128453a2fe89e4975a552d1467ec.png

With the aim being the Copa MX, we hoped for a nice start and an easy group draw. Yet the top tier side we share Group C with is the defending champions, Santos Laguna. FM gods, thanks.

image.png.35109b2d41693c142294beb16a357faf.png

What I didn't know was that Tigres had been building a stunning new stadium, so for our shot at the cup, we would be doing it from our new fortress, the 60,000 seat Estadio Tigres de la UANL.

image.png.c2d440fd9050c67fbdc045459c457c3f.png

And we had a thrilling friendly against Boca Juniors to kick off this new era.

image.png.334b2261d202500dda0ca1160e69299e.png

Although not important, we started the season off with a trophy, the Mexican Champions League. Hopefully, we can carry this momentum through the whole season.

image.png.10240ef66cc1f32662182c227407551e.png

And that win over CF Monterrey enabled us to take on LAFC for more silverware, which we did comfortably, dominating the game with an xG of 3.45 to 0.55.

image.png.56d8848db160cda9927e94984db49e4a.png

And a few matches later we had already won a third trophy for the season, winning the 8-team Leagues Cup. A dream start!

image.png.ba15bc6c5e7f008540a3c52a198700fb.png

image.png.f3503f437183461c1240ebe379ecab6d.png

Meanwhile, in the international break, we cruised through our qualifying group and made it to the 2030 World Cup with games to spare. And the best news is that I convinced Wilf Ndidi to come out of retirement (he had given up on Nigeria at the age of 29 after the previous World Cup). Hope we can have a deep run this time out.

image.png.9f6835291c7497ce0757234328aefd61.png

Our trophy winning run was stopped in the Torneo Apertura. After a good league run, finishing in the top 4 and getting a good draw, a low scoring two-legged final against Cruz Azul left us ruing our chances for the first real time this season.

image.png.3e43b5f7ddba4c7c65e32a376c373071.png

And although not perfect, the first hurdle was complete, and we made it out of our group. It wasn't pretty, but after sharing wins with Santos Laguna, a draw between our reserves and Dorados de Sinaloa meant we only finished in second.

image.png.f4a2afb59d1e2acf675c337f51d05886.png

And whilst we struggled in the Torneo Clausura league stage (see below), our focus was on the Copa MX, and the boys pulled through....

image.png.6a05f8fec0fca8f5670668c02917a50f.png

...winning the one trophy in Mexico that had alluded me until now. After conceding early, we were 3-1 up with only a few minutes left. Although they scored late, we held on well.

And if only the xG was how you won a match, because we dominated on that basis!

image.png.d5700723f6bbfe697b6c6aa0cdcafb63.png

image.png.dd0c89ad0d435ef1b6b80e53bfcce177.png

Our cup performances were great, and we also made it to the Champions League final, where we faced rivals Deportivo Guadalajara. A game that we dominated but couldn't find the net. Had to suffer through a shootout, but the continental crown is still ours. (And that wasn't the first penalty shootout of our tournament!)

image.png.ec241247c48553afd0fec8c4562392a0.png

Definitely doesn't look real, but apparently we were the best team throughout the whole tournament!

And in the Torneo Clausura, although finishing 5th doesn't sound too bad, we only made it there after winning 3 of our last 4 games, having been languishing around 10th for most of the campaign.

image.png.9108dcef97b5a16cb51b4d992a7399dc.png

Having to go through the prelims for the first time in a while, we had to get through another shootout with Pumas de la UNAM to get through. And after a comfortable tie against Atlas (we won the first leg 3-0, and they scored two late goals in the return) and Mazatlan. we faced Club Necaxa in the final...

image.png.75dd4927df176ac46259da1fefe14720.png

image.png.3fdc64e032ee950f2ded69115a54359c.png

...where we won after a drab first leg to send Raul Jimenez into retirement with another gold medal.

And with so many trophies on offer, we have made it to the top of North America's hall of fame!

image.png.70a464382732d334ae853560aa03810c.png

image.png.0199cf8b515c4a419ca3d3241abfb639.png

And we will leave Mexico having been voted the best manager around.

POST 18: World Cup 2030, in England

Time for redemption with Nigeria, after losing to England in the second round of the 2026 edition.

Hope were high for the nation, having reached the final of the last two editions of AFCON, winning won of those.

image.thumb.png.2f1aec45289ff05c300b01bb5f4e4813.png

But things did not go as planned in the group stage.

We failed to find the the net against Scotland, and were punished for it, losing 2-0.

And against New Zealand, we looked to have turned things round, racing into a 2-0 lead by halftime. But a red card with 30 minutes to play left us hanging on, and we did concede twice, leading to a 2-2 draw.

We made it out of our group, somehow, after completely tying with the Kiwis. (Must be the yellow cards that helped us out.)

Can we now get further than last year?

image.thumb.png.e11cac403459390da3f92e155cecfacf.png

The answer is no, as we were pushed aside by Russia.

Another disappointing campaign with Nigeria. Not going to be staying around for the next one. Time to move on.

image.thumb.png.0ef2eddc98e5c32a78cb57055b84bce4.png

So I resigned immediately, with a keen eye on which other positions would become free after the tournament.

And whilst also looking at available domestic jobs, still able to sneak in one last trophy!

image.thumb.png.4f1e5d30062548eab549ad5f8b215650.png

And after applying for a number of national jobs, we are taking over the third best Asian side, Australia.

So a fresh start, as we move into South America, and all the opportunities that that presents.

Hopefully we can get things done here, before having to move into Europe and the big 5 leagues. But that will probably only be in another few years.

Until then!

Feyenoord 2031/32

Having stepped down as manager of Mexico following a successful Gold Cup, I was instantly on the lookout for my first job in Europe. There was a couple of big roles available but I decided against the big 5 leagues just yet and wanted to try get the spare title and cup somewhere beforehand. I opted for the Feyenoord job. I fancied a challenge and having seen Ajax had won 13 titles on the spin, I was sold on the job.  Appointed in late July, I had a few weeks to shape the team before the season kicked off.

Competitions

Eredivisie - Results 1    Results 2    League Table

A solid season ended with us finishing in 2nd place behind Ajax who sealed their 14th consecutive title comfortably. We finished 19 points behind them as they failed to lose a single game.

Toto Knvb beker - Results

A kind run to the final where we faced domestic giants Ajax, and we put in a superb performance to win the trophy after a 3-2 win.

Europa Conference League - Results 1    Results 2

I fancied our chances in this, and even though it doesn't count towards the challenge it is still a nice little competition to win. We made light work of most sides but ended up incredibly lucky in the final. 3-2 down in the 94th minute we managed to grab an equaliser and force ET. ET was a nervy affair and we managed to pop up with a winner with the last kick of the game.

Playing Squad

Squad    Transfers

We have built a really good side and one that definitely got stronger as the season went on. Star  men this season were

Marko Culum (ST) - Has been our talisman this season and bagged 32 goals and 12 assists in 40 appearances.

Gjivai Zechiel (CM) - Has been inspirational in the middle of the park. Dominating games and proving a real creating source with 18 assists this season.

Van Axel Dongan (AML) - I was actually going to sacrifice him when I arrived for funds but I am glad I didnt. He has been excellent this season chipping in with 19 goals and 16 assists in 46 games.

Next Season

Although we face a real struggle to wrestle the league away from Ajax, I am really enjoying the challenge. We are in the Champions League preliminary rounds next season and I am hoping to get to the group stages at the very least. With a couple of improvements to the playing team over the summer, I am hopeful we can push on and give Ajax a real challenge next season.

POST 19: Managing in the Maracana

Didn't know too much about Fluminense before taking over, except that they were predicted to challenge for the title but were languishing in mid-table. Now know that they share the Maracana with Flamengo and that their rivalry is known (at least on FM) as the Fla-Flu rivalry.

Joined at the end of August 2030, with the challenge of qualifying for next year's Copa Libertadores. Joined with the team in 11th, and need to finish 7th.

image.thumb.png.97848afdd57304efd9c8fc2d7ac5ad70.png

First big game was the second leg of the Copa Libertadores quarter final with rivals Flamengo, and although we played well, a late free kick gave them an equaliser, and the tie on aggregate.

But Fluminense were also still in the Copa do Brasil, and with the winner securing a place straight into the Copa Libertadores group stage, I focused on the cup run after a couple of poor results in the league.

And a second leg 4-2 win over Corinthians landed us the trophy, and a shot next year at the top tier continental title.

Next up is the 2031 Asian Cup with Australia, before a year where we could collect two more pivotal trophies and leave Fluminense so soon after arriving.

Completely humbled by the Italians who eventually went onto win the world cup. Great win against the swedes!

Main focus is on next year with Australia and trying to capture the Asian cup.

WHATS NEXT

2 Cup finals and 2 defeats with Galatasaray has been pretty soul destroying especially when it feels like I am close to the finishing line. The league rules with regard to having to play 2 players in the starting eleven who are 21 or under and have to have been trained at the club for 3 years are now going to see me depart Galatasaray and go elsewhere which will most likely be Italy as I never got round to winning the coppa italia during my time with Lazio previously. I'm hoping (praying) that next season will be the last of the challenge and I can win the Asian Cup with Aus and finally land this elusive damn domestic cup.

@berrersIf you look at this link, you can see which nations have 2 cup competitions, like Malaysia or Scotland.

List of association football competitions - Wikipedia

The lists are at the bottom of the page. I know it's not the easiest page to understand. Indonesia looks like a possibility.

Preseason cups, like Malaysia are ideal, because you don;t have to play league matches at the same time. You're just in the cup. I did Malaysia. Of course you might have to play the entire cup, which might be 10 or more matches, but at least each match counts.

Has anybody else found any nay nations with 2 cups. I admit, I'm not sure about Indonesia. It looks like Hong Kong might have 2.

I've been there. Once got 2 trophies away from completing before getting stuck, and I'm not the only one.

At least you're not stuck domestically. Hopefully you won't run out of nations, but having to play a league season just to get a cup sucks, even when you win the cup.

Season 2024 - Tianshan Leopards

A quick update with no achievements to call out against this challenge. Nonetheless, it was a successful season with the Leopards managing to win the First Division and promotion to the Super League for the very first time.  It was a two horse race for much of the season and a lost to Ronchong in the 3rd last game had us in second spot with 1 point behind.  A draw in the second last game then had us on top which we managed to hold on to on the last day.

With Ivory Coast we qualified for the World Cup with ease.

Im not opposed to any approaches by any of the bigger Chinese Super League clubs now that my reputation has grown, but dont mind giving it a crack with the Leopards either. Let's see how the transfer period goes

2025 - AFCON

Thought I'd provide an update on the 2025 AFCON since its started and completed prior to the Chinese Super League commencing.  It kind of crept up on me as I had forgotten it was played every two years and not four like other major tournaments.

Had an interrupted start with a few big injuries to Haller and Singo meaning they would miss the tournament and also Boli deciding he would represent France despite already been capped with Ivory Coast (didnt think that was possible once capped at men's level).

Group Stage

Spoiler

Group stage

In our group we had The Gambia, South Africa and Morocco in that order.  Two years ago we had them in our group and came away with a 1-0 win in a tough game. We dispatched them 8-1 to record our biggest ever AFCON win.  South Africa proved just as easy with a solid 5-0 demolition. The Morocco game was for top spot of the group and we managed to win that comfortably 3-1. Funny thing is, top spot meant we were matched up against Ghana who lost top spot of their group to Guinea.

 Second Round (if applicable)

Spoiler

Up against Ghana who were ranked 35th in the world and the 4th best African nation. An early goal by Gbamin gave us the lead an a second before half time gave us the breathing space into the break.  A third by Kouame in the 69th minute sealed a comfortable win and a spot in the quarters against Nigeria - the best ranked African team!

Quarters (if applicable)

Spoiler

The toughest match up possible had me in nerves. Those nerves were increased after conceding the first four shots on of the game.  Our best attacking outlet Pepe suffered a tournament ending knee injury in the first half made it worse.  Slowly but surely we gained the ascendancy and in the second half we were the only team that looked like scoring, Nigeria had shut up shop and were parking the bus.  Zaha who replaced Pepe scored in the 85th minute to take us into the Semis, against Cameroon

Semis (if applicable)

Spoiler

This was going to be another tough test for us and without Pepe. It seemed like Cameroon had taken a leaf out of Nigeria's books and set up to try mitigate our attacking flair, however they seemed to do it better as after the 90 minutes it was still locked 0 - 0. They had only created 4 shots with none on target for the 90 but it was whether we would be able to get the go ahead goal or not.  In the 117th minute, a penalty was given to us and Kessie put it away to get us in the final for the third time in the row!

Final or 3rd place play off (if applicable)

Spoiler

Up against Mali who knocked out hosts Guinea, DR Congo (defending champs) and Senegal to make the finals where probably the lesser of the teams I would face in the knockout round, despite having players like Bissouma, Camara and Haidara.  And the final played out that way, 2 goals in the first 6 minutes was the start of a 6 - 0 romping to give Ivory Coast their 3rd AFCON title after finishing runners up the last two tournaments.

POST 20: Bragging rights in Rio

Had an interesting start to the season, balancing the pre-season tournament responsibilities at Fluminense with taking Australia to the Asia Cup in Japan. Very realistic indeed!

image.thumb.png.8f663c07b58d9b94676457220d766c6f.png

Got early bragging rights of 2031 over Flamengo with a 1-0 win in the Supercopa do Brasil. Had less of the ball but the better chances, so I guess the scoreline is a fair reflection.

Meanwhile in Japan....

image.thumb.png.00efcfe5a92aef6c9f1dfa64f7fb0b34.png

Only had an 18-man squad, so was a struggle to pick a balanced squad. And then started to struggle with yellow card suspensions and knocks/injuries.

Didn't quite get started in the group stage, only beating whipping boys Malaysia. Scraped through with a draw against Qatar after losing to South Korea.

But we are still in the competition, so all to play for.

Not much to report on from the Rio state tournament. The big four top tier sides qualified from the league stage, but we lost to Vasco da Gama in the semi finals.

But in the Asian Cup, we had a favourable draw....

image.png.2dea91c61e407e85aa7eb33bd4ee58b3.png

With the main focus being on keeping the squad fresh, ensuring no injuries or suspensions, the 4-0 win over China was a reassuring start. That followed with a 2-1 win over a tired Iran, after they needed extra time against Qatar.

The semi final was more deserving to be the final, as we got our revenge against South Korea, defeating them on penalties. And we followed that up, and got the job done, against surprise package Thailand.

image.png.1cc8eb30535abbdee305f5683248cfc0.png

But with Australia only being ranked 40th in the world, it was time to move on, and move continent, so we got a job in South America,......

image.thumb.png.dc71fa5044ca569e6695565c13e1b770.png

But things didn't look so good for Peru, so after a few months as manager, taking charge of a few friendlies, an opportunity arose that was too tempting not to take.

image.png.16936176f2e1402e3b837943eac260df.png

Having only recently left Tigres, this opportunity allows me to reunite with most of that side. And also they have a good chance of winning the Gold Cup, although USA have dominated, winning the competition the last 6 times.

Since we already won the cup, I used that for rotation, and to keep the reserves happy. Was hedging my bets between Serie A and the Copa Libertadores, but Flamengo were running away with the league (their first loss was in their 30th league match). so focussed my attentions on the continental cup for this season.

Was surprised how dominant the Brazilian teams were, with 6 of the other 7 quarter finalists being domestic rivals. But we got the one Argentinian outfit!

image.png.193ee77f7efd9839c3efef1f807d9beb.png

Made it all the way to the final, where we met our rivals Flamengo.

image.png.5a50d4841744d6ea6671d417003a99b5.png

And it turned out to be an amazing game. They went 1-0 up, but were also down to 10 men by half time. We turned the tide and started creating chances, but as with our season, struggled to find the back of the net. Did eventually score though to take it to extra time.... where 4 more goals were scored, and it went to penalties with the match tied 3-3. We stayed strong, and came out on top 4-3 in the shootout to take the pre-arranged trophy celebration through the streets of Rio!

This success will be treasured, at it landed me a spot in the worldwide hall of fame!

image.png.db5e9dcc8c2702c85b1b2298233d0d1f.png

Only 16th for now, but we have Jurgen in our sights.

Next year the challenge will be the league, after seeing Flamengo dominate so easily. We were in the chasing pack though, and just need to turn some more of those draws into wins. Need to sign a striker or two that can actually score, as although we had a solid GD, was mainly from just smashing the teams at the bottom.

But enjoying my time in Brazil, and have a good setup at Fluminense. Especially proud of my keeper who produced some incredible performances to help us out of some sticky situations.

Season 2025 - Tianshan Leopards

First ever season in the Chinese Super League for the Leopards was about battling bravely against relegation however soon after the season began it never was going to be a relegation fight for us. Up until the midpoint of the season we were battling away for a Champion League position (top 3) however fatigue and a lack of depth kicked in and we tailed away losing 4 of the last 5 games to finish a very respectable 7th.  Unfortunately we simply cannot compete against the rich powerhouse clubs for the top local talent.  It's a bit of a weird one where we have 4 starting foreigners who are all 5 star players and then surrounded by a bunch of 2 star local talent.  Will need to give it another go next year but will keep an eye out for one of the richer clubs at the same time.  In the Cup we succumbed in the quarter final in a game we were leading 2-0 up until the 75th minute, a late collapse saw us lose the game 3-2 after 90 minutes.

Was on the lookout for any other National teams to take over as i dont think we have a realistic change at the World Cup next year despite being ranked 10th in the world but absolutely nothing came up for the entire year.  We did get drawn a decent group of Russia and Costa Rica so might play it out and see what the fall out is post World Cup.

New International Job.

I have managed to land my 3rd international role of the challenge. Taking over as manager of South Korea. With a World Cup in 2 years and the Asian Cup 3 years away I have a nice amount of time to build my squad ahead of the competitions. Winners of the last 2 Asian Cups, and with some really good talent and youngsters coming through, I am hopeful of making it 3 when the tournament finally comes around.

POST 21: Going for the League

Started this season a bit different to the last, having won the Copa Libertadores and not the Copa do Brasil.

But that didn't stop us winning a trophy in our first few matches, coming out on top against Atletico Mineiro and winning the Recopa Sudamericana.

image.thumb.png.cd3c6b1e09f172dbe28917f50082a5b8.png

A nice way to start the season, as we get an early glimpse as to how we'll fare in Serie A, together with the Rio State Championship.

And on an international level, we take the bragging rights into next year's Gold Cup by defeating the seemingly unstoppable force in the USA in the Nations League final.

image.png.bc6b4bcc47cfde3fb24aa074d4b814c5.png

Not much to report about the cup competitions this year. Did rotate the team somewhat for both the Copa do Brasil and the Copa Libertadores, and we exited both early - one on away goals and the other on penalties!

image.png.a5ec339d84d0cfef094a7c2eccbabba5.png

image.png.1c6c1eadac62cadfb69ba15a3cbb99a5.png

But it was all worth it, as we managed to clinch the league with a game to spare. Instead we walked out into the Maracana to a guard of honour from our rivals, and 4-time defending champions Flamengo. The best way to win a title!

image.thumb.png.4547b0ad47e097497c9593ede5200bc6.png

And the outstandingly consistent performance from the team lands me one final honour in Brazil, as I have run down my contract here in Rio and am starting a new job back home in England.....

The team are struggling in the league, currently just 2 points above the relegation zone, and have just sacked Jose Mourinho. But the team are predicted to finish much higher, as well as having qualified from a Europa League group that they've dominated and are still in both domestic cup competitions.

So there's still lots that could happen this season...

But honestly, I just took this job to realign my calendar with the rest of Europe. Having won all the other continental competitions, am probably going to do the rest of my career here in Europe. Hopefully I don't have to journey between too many teams, and the big teams hire me soon.

Season 2026 - Tianshan Leopards

Second season in the Super League with the Leopards where the objective of the Board was to avoid relegation after a season we just finished 7th. In the end, another solid season smashing the lower teams but coming up short against the powerhouses of Chinese football.  Up until the 3rd last game, we were still in the running to qualify for the lucrative Asian Champions League but a humiliating 5 - 0 loss away to Beijing all but ruined that thought. Finishing in 5th was an 11 point improvement from last year.

Also managed to win the manager of the year despite being rejected by more than half the teams in the league for their managerial vacancy throughout the year.

Knocked out in the 5th round of the domestic cup to SH Port, we did put up a bit of a fight after being down 3 - 0 after 20 minutes.

2026 World Cup

Entering the World Cup ranked an all time high 8th in the world and also on a record breaking 24 game unbeaten run, i had a slight feeling that we could go late into the tournament.  A group of Russia and Costa Rica landed us the perfect platform to gain some momentum and play ourselves in.  Up first against Russia where we needed a 93rd minute Kessie penalty to give us a vital 3 points, followed by a straight forward 3 - 0 win against Costa Rica meant we topped the group and into the second round against Qatar. We lost Pepe for the remainder of the tournament through injury, a huge blow!

POST 22: Eyes on the Gold (Cup)

It was evident straight away why Leicester were struggling so much this year (2032/33). They are still fighting on 4 fronts, but just about have a squad of 20. The depth just isn't there, but I'm here to win trophies, so we will just have to manage the fitness levels as best as we can.

image.png.7cb6cac63b7946be9ab67154da22e09a.png

Three months in and things haven't been going too well (as can see above). We started nicely by securing top spot in our Europa League group, but we were inconsistent in the Premier League, knocked out by Manchester United in the Carabao Cup semi finals and have Liverpool to play next in the FA Cup Fifth Round. So looks like we are left with just fighting to secure our safety and a spot in the top division for next year. But we really haven't moved any further away from the relegation zone from when I took over, so that isn't so good.

And the board aren't too happy about the situation either, giving me an ultimatum to turn it around, get some points and create a buffer to the relegation places.

image.png.d9d17f90c955fb7769df98635123b9d5.png

11 points from 5 games doesn't sound too bad, and those fixtures are against Sheffield United, Wolverhampton Wanderers, Brighton and Hove Albion, Leeds United and Newcastle United. So this is really manageable, and hopefully we can avoid the sack (as that isn't so good for the reputation and the ability to land top jobs).

Also have crucial matches against Eintracht Frankfurt and Liverpool in this period. So kind of need to play a best XI in every fixture for the next month.

image.png.c4c2f63a6a13dea68dd713b50d5d8620.png

Only one match later, a close fought victory over the Blades, and the board apparently don't sound too confident about our chances of keeping the job. Even though we are doing the best we can so far to meet their target.

image.png.fdaf051661c150688a920f5add326392.png

And we survived the rough patch, picking up points in all of the other matches in the period.

We also managed to see off Eintracht Frankfurt courtesy of a 91 min goal, but lost in the next round to Spanish giants Atletico de Madrid. And Liverpool comfortably saw us off in the FA Cup.

image.png.52b177fd183a8a68676a1d0f599536b7.png

Some nice results along the way, including home wins over both Manchester clubs, helped us to a 12th place finish. Not too bad in the end.

image.png.57a1f4cff7e122a6643ec9e0c6f28804.png

During the summer whilst getting Mexico ready for a push at winning the Gold Cup, I was also trying to build a decent Leicester squad.

But with one eye on the available jobs out there, I saw a vacancy I had to apply for…..for the Spanish champions.

image.png.2b78e63959537ae11947da8c3df61908.png

And they gave me the job! So we are off to Barcelona!

image.png.e17d838fc62d6327aa53fae3e491d686.png

Off to the USA for the Gold Cup. Started unsurprisingly well, as North America only has 4 decent sides at the moment.

Made it through the group games without conceding a goal, winning 3-0, 5-0 & 8-0.

image.thumb.png.e20b867a3131b4987cb34cceaaf0a599.png

Understandable why they don't plan on expanding this tournament, as the big 4 all made the semi finals whilst remaining in 2nd gear. The once mighty Honduras didn't pose us any problems in the Second Round. Then had a tight game against Canada, winning with two late goals. The final started with us on the back foot, but a small tweak of some of the player roles saw us control the game and after the first goal, a penalty, in the 15th minute, we were well on our way to getting our hands on the trophy, ending USA's tight grip on the Gold Cup.

image.png.5c057375d4272a21affaa23b1a454489.png

image.png.440719e264fb883e2bfa331710aba874.png

image.png.694cfaceb695e4b08759fafc33af2d91.png

Now it is time to get back and focus on Barcelona, to build a side to retain La Liga, and also challenge in some of the cups. (There is also a World Cup at the end of the season!)

What is annoying is that the Club World Cup has just happened, and I don't really plan on still being at Barca in four years time (don't tell the chairman that), but don't know if I'll be managing a team that will entered into it then. I guess only time will tell.

But England, we'll be back.

Competitions

Erevisidie - League Table    Results 1    Results 2

In the end we just didn't have enough quality to topple Ajax. We battled away and going into matchday 31, in a massive game against Ajax sat 1 point clear of them in 1st. But we couldn't get a result and the 1-0 loss followed by a loss in the Rotterdam derby a week later sealed our fate. Its still been a great season as we cut the gap between us and Ajax by 14 points.

UEFA Champions League - Results    Group Stage

The wins against Sporting in the qualifiers and a dream start against Nice had me dreaming before we was thumped back down to earth by Chelsea and then Milan. To then turn around and return the favour to Milan was a brilliant show of this sides potential. We couldn't get over the line though as we ended the group in 3rd and qualified for the Europa League.

UEFA Europa League - Results

After our Champions League elimination, I fancied our chances of a good run in this competition. I didn't think we would go on and win it though. Fantastic wins over Dortmund, Napoli and Benfica before an all Dutch final against AZ.

Toto KNVB Beker - Results

I basically threw the final even with no guarantees the first 11 would have won anyway. The final was just 3 days before the meeting with Ajax mentioned in the league write up so I played the 2nd 11 and we got thumped before losing the league game anyway.

Johan Cruuf Schaal - Result

Started the season with a good win in the opener.

Playing Squad

Squad    Transfers

We made a few improvements in the summer and winter windows and even though we didn't win the league, I am very excited about the squads potential. Key men this season were

Ruben Mesquita (CB) - I am amazed he is still at the club. Bayern and PSG tried all last summer to sign him but were not willing to pay my asking price. He has since signed a new deal and had a excellent season in the heart of the defence.

Marko Culum (ST) - Another good season from the striker but I am a little bit disappointed with him. He missed a lot of chances this season and I need him to step it up next season as if we had a 30 goal striker we stand a huge chance of nicking the title of Ajax.

Jose Sanchez (RW) - He didn't start the season well and struggled to settle. But come January something changed and he was unplayable at times. Really looking forward to seeing just how good he can be.

Next Season

Although we failed to topple Ajax I have really enjoyed this season and have no intentions of walking away and giving up. The team has some really exciting talents and I do think with 1 or 2 right signings this summer, Ajax's 15 year run as champions will be in real danger next season. Winning the Europa league has also seen us go straight into the group stages of the Champions League and if we can get a decent group, I am hopeful we can progress further than this season. My contract has 1 more season here also so I will see that out at the very least.

My time in charge of South Korea has been par for the course so far. I took over on 20/06/2032 replacing Paolo Bento who left to take over Australia. 7 games in and 7 wins later and qualification for the 2034 World Cup is in the bag. Our Group in qualifying is as straight forward as it can be so I need to sort some friendlies against decent opposition to see what the team is really capable off.

Finally after what has felt like a long long wait this was the season the Asian cup would take place.

AFC ASIAN CUP

Errrr yeah. Defeat to Syria. Free kick and an 88th minute penalty :seagull: see you again in 4 years.

WHAT'S NEXT

A walk in the woods with a revolver I think . In all seriousness I want to try and win the cup with Lazio as the squad is really good and the thought of starting anywhere new with a club now isn't very appealing + 4th time is a charm...surely. Failing to win the Asian cup is now a huge problem with the next one not taking place until 2055. I have no choice but to stay on with the Aussies but will have no hesitation to jump if the South Korea job comes available as they are by some way the strongest Asian nation. Having to wait another 4 seasons for my next pop at it though is very frustrating.

Season 2027 - Tianshan Leopards

After making progress last season, was hoping to continue that trend and look to challenge for the title this season being our 3rd in the Super League. Started the season with a draw and then a loss really threw me off thinking here we go again.  After 5 games we were 2 wins, a draw and 2 losses.  We werent ready yet again to challenge proper. Or so I thought... we then went on a 26 record breaking undefeated run with only 6 of those games being drawn to seal the title with a few games to spare! A real tribute given we lost our best player Barbosa (Portuguese Under 21 Int) half way through the year as his release cause was triggered, and also had our assistant manager poached to takeover as head coach of Heb FC also in the Super League.

Spoiler

season.jpg.bf3e2a36d2ccee42b104d52e699595ea.jpg

Given our form in the league strong post the slow start, the Chinese FA Cup was up for grabs as well. We made light work of our first division opponents in the fourth round 6 - 0, then up against DL Pro who we beat in a tight game 1 - 0 needing a 92nd minute winner by Barbosa. In the quarters we beat Henan who survived relegation on the last day comfortably 3 - 1 which meant we were facing the media's prediction to win the league Shandong over a two leg play off. The first leg we lost 2 - 1 away which was our only loss in a 32 game period but Fang Kai's effort to peg one back in the 62nd minute gave us a vital away goal going into the return home leg in a game where our opponents also missed a penalty.  In the home leg, we absolutely dominated but had to wait until the 81st minute to open the scoring and walk away with a 1 - 0 win to take us into the final.  Our opponents, Heb FC up against my ass man protege who i plucked out of the wilderness with no coaching experience at all. This time the first leg was home and a nervous 3 - 3 draw gave the ascendancy to our opponents who eventually finished two spots above the relegation zone, this was meant to be easy pickings!  The return leg meant we really needed to win after copping 3 goals at home!   After a very nervous start, we conceded just before half time to put us 4 - 3 down on aggregate.  At half time, told the players there was no pressure and to go out and enjoy the game and tweaked the formation bringing on an additional striker to push hard.  A goal disallowed in the 61st minute had me thinking it wasnt going to be our day...  but then we piled on 4 goals to win the tie 7 - 4 haha!

Not too much to talk about from an international point of view, still with Iran and have been winning our World Cup qualifiers.

@berrersCommiserations. I hope you wrote your update after the end of the Asian Cup and that you haven't been sacked. Once you win that last cup, you can go on holiday for much of that next 4 years, although I know some don't like to. Hope you win the Italian Cup next season.

I was insecure as the expectation was to make the final but managed to hold on!

Deportes Temuco

I will keep this quick and simple as it's just the beginning. Chilean First Divison B was the first port of call. Temuco sitting at the bottom of the league (16 teams) but only 12 points off top of the league. Mad!

I got offered this job and the Deportes Santa Cruz job, who were sitting just above in 15th position at the time.

The season ended with a 4th place finish and a play off win! Not a bad start to the challenge. Although it did take me until the end ofthe season to get the board to start me on a coaching course.

The final started with us on the back foot, but a small tweak of some of the player roles saw us control the game and after the first goal, a penalty, in the 15th minute, we were well on our way to getting our hands on the trophy, ending USA's tight grip on the Gold Cup.

image.png.5c057375d4272a21affaa23b1a454489.png

image.png.694cfaceb695e4b08759fafc33af2d91.png

Now it is time to get back and focus on Barcelona, to build a side to retain La Liga, and also challenge in some of the cups. (There is also a World Cup at the end of the season!)

What is annoying is that the Club World Cup has just happened, and I don't really plan on still being at Barca in four years time (don't tell the chairman that), but don't know if I'll be managing a team that will entered into it then. I guess only time will tell.

But England, we'll be back.

POST 23: New Man at the Camp Nou

Spent some time building a proper backroom staff, as feel winning the UEFA Champions League now with Barca might make things easier later on when trying to win the other Big 5 leagues.

And then I found the following guy, who was interested in joining as a coach. Felt I couldn't say no!

image.png.45335af787b1b43f2f7ca597de22c9bb.png

Whilst having a slow start in Spain, with Mexico we were riding a wave, with our rock solid defence, that didn't concede a goal in the Gold Cup, taking their form into the remainder of World Cup qualifying. And we made it to the tournament with ease. And by the end of the season we will be up to 6th in the World Rankings, so hopefully I can break my personal duck and make it beyond the 2nd round of the tournament.

image.thumb.png.193f25d358ab0bf4563d29fc9aac7eee.png

Unlike previous years, we had reached the turn of the year and hadn't yet won a trophy!

Mainly because the Supercopa only took place in January! And after beating Atletico Madrid 2-1, the same scoreline saw us past Real Sociedad, who had suprisingly beat then-unbeaten-in-the-league Real Madrid.

image.thumb.png.abb0916968116fdf7e56afb8f739fbad.png

And that trophy was a memorable one for me personally, as it took us to the top of the English HOF.

image.png.a8f9fa49605c6fa7544a7b03fc44c14d.png

image.png.d4be6e2b2caac7eba16ba167223da320.png

We started to fall off the pace in the league. Real Madrid didn't lose until we played them for a second time (they only lost a couple of times all season). We just drew too many matches against lower table opposition, whilst the two Madrid sides and Atletic Bilbao were more consistent than us.

image.png.c90c5669f4d81d1819e65459e08862ec.png

Again, we were in a final against Sociedad, and this time things were more comfortable. What wasn't was our semi final, where we lost the first leg to Atletico Madrid 3-1, only to turn it totally around in the second leg winning 7-1!

image.png.5db6a10ca68a48b131696f6c6d3545d0.png

Hopefully next season we can cut out those poor performances against the lower teams, as we more than managed to show up against our title rivals.

Also lost in the Champions League knockout rounds to Chelsea, who went on to beat Manchester City in the final.

So looking to bring in some more players to strengthen our squad and compete on two fronts next year. But if do win La Liga, and something does open up, you never know, we could be on the move again soon!

image.thumb.png.77658e4ed847eff7def19e74e73d3051.png

Now it is on to the 2034 World Cup with Mexico. Will probably leave after the tournament, looking for a job in South America or Europe, with the aim to win another tournament before the next World Cup in four years time.

Season 2028 - Tianshan Leopards

It's my 6th season now with the Leopards which feels like way too long but it's my first go at the Asian Champions League.  Bit of a learning curve as the registration for the ENTIRE tournament was prior to the completion of the transfer window and doesnt again open during the mid season transfer window either.  Unfortunately this meant i couldnt register my signings (i have a habit of leaving signings late in the windows).  Was first in the group stage heading to Adelaide for the last game where we were leading 2 - 1 with 5 mins left, we conceded twice late on to get knocked off top spot!  This meant we were drawn up against Ulsan the current Asian Champions whereby again i learnt a lesson it's a 1 game knockout contest with no second leg.  We lost that game 2 - 1.

We won the league on the last day of the season and didnt take the Cup seriously.  Will go again next year with lessons learnt for the Champions League.

No real updates internationally apart from an avenging 6 - 0 drubbing of Australia in my home town Melbourne in the World Cup qualifiers after being rejected for the job prior to the Asian Cup!

Season 2029 - Tianshan Leopards

With only the Asian Champions League in play, that was the sole focus of this season.  I had learnt my lesson from last season and conducted my signings earlier in the window so they were eligible for the group stage. Were given an relatively easy group - Seoul, Chiangrai Utd of Thailand and Perak of Malaysia. First up was the toughest of the opponents Seoul and after a comfortable 4 - 1 away win I knew I wouldnt have any issues qualifying for the second round. 6 wins and 27 goals later we were matched up against Seoul again in the second round, a home tie.

Second Round

Spoiler

We repeated the group stage scoreline and beat them 4 - 1.  We were drawn against Bangkok Utd at home in the quarters

Quarter Final (if applicable)

Spoiler

we're really loving winning 4 - 1 , another easy win.  Drawn against Jeonbuk away, the current Asian Champions!  This will be our biggest test to date....

Semi Final (if applicable)

Spoiler

5 - 3 win!!  An absolute pearler of a game.  Our right back who has had to play left back all year and the only one not to make the Team of the Year starting lineup put us ahead after 8 minutes.  Jeonbuk equalised in the 22nd minute.  Lee Sun Woo gave us the lead again in the second minute of injury time of the first half to ease the nerves.  They scored the first goal of the second half in the 62nd minute however from the kick off Woo scored to put us 3 - 2 up.  They equalised again in the 72nd minute but again we showed resilience to score 2 minutes later through Luiz our Brazilian defender.  Woo secured his hattrick in the 86th minute to seal the game!   We now face Al-Hilal of Saudi Arabia at home in the final

Final (if applicable)

Spoiler

Tianshan 2 - 1 Al-Hilal - we're Asian champions!!   A tough game which we controlled scoring in the 5th and 20th minute with a goal to Hilal in between in the 17th minute gave us the ascendancy which we held on for the remainder of the game.1776795964_championsleague.jpg.bb585999876135e29db68836c152c4fe.jpg

After 2 seasons in Singapore and 7 seasons in China, I have completed the Asian club section of this challenge.  Probably took me longer than I had hoped, but nonetheless was a great experience and fun to complete with a team that hadnt even played at the top league of its nation.  I'm thinking of going to South Africa, Brazil or Mexico next, I will leave Europe for the end.

Nothing to really note on an international stage, we qualified for the World Cup next year and drawn against France and Haiti.

Dont really post players stats but had to show this, never have i had someone score at a rate like this.  Averaging more than 2 goals a game (excluding the one late sub appearance) in the champions league.  We also won the league and Super Cup this year.

46766506_LeeSun-Woo.jpg.792038f74f28a98f9057bf84c7c58745.jpg

Scored a massive 137 goals in 34 games, averaged more than 4 goals a game!

image.png.d4be6e2b2caac7eba16ba167223da320.png

POST 24: World Cup 2034

Going to quit Mexico after this tournament, having won the Gold Cup a year and a half ago. Lets see how far we can take them in this tournament, hosted by South Korea.

We started really well against Poland, dominating the chances, with 18 shots to their 3. But they scored their goal in the 28th minute and held on for over an hour!

image.thumb.png.4ec7aa501bd843ccc5312b3d7809d5ec.png

Really disappointed to have started with a loss, but should still qualify from our group, as play The Gambia in our other match, and after their heavy defeat against Poland, a draw would be enough.

And win we did, with an expected dominant performance, winning 5-0 with an xG to match.

image.thumb.png.c15aa5f5eb56d3d964a30608eda2618f.png

image.png.9ee3fe813dfd7aa9480b7ee2b43e64da.png

But finishing second, we were always going to get a tough draw for the knockouts. And we get drawn against France, ranked 4th in the world.

image.thumb.png.cc3f4384a3cf596a9f37491f6a2625b0.png

A real dominant performance here, controlling possession throughout the game. But we reached 90 minutes with the score 1-1, and extra time was required - never a good thing so early on in such a large tournament with so many games still to play. However, we scored with 8 minutes left to all but seal our place in the next round.

But France earnt a penalty in the last minute, and I was fearing the lottery of penalties. Thankfully though, it was saved and we were through to the next round.

My best performance at this global tournament, having been twice knocked out in the second round.

image.thumb.png.1f6d4e6534b379afc900b0b67781fa7f.png

And we get to play the reigning World Champions, Spain - yay!!!!

This was the complete opposite of the France match, as we were camped outside out box as Spain kept probing for an opening. Had bitten my nails off for most of the match, but the nervous tension changed to jubilation when we broke and scored, through an own goal, inside the last 15 minutes. We held on, and are through, knocking out the previous winners.

image.thumb.png.4a660b4a639e2ce945d998b52769d41d.png

....to play the last remaining African side, Ivory Coast.

Fatigue was starting to catch up with us after two tough matches against European powerhouses. Meant we had to play more conservative and trust a defence that barely conceded throughout the last 18 months.

90 minutes into the tie and the game was goalless, and it required a late goal from us in extra time just to take it to penalties.

...where Sosa had a blinder, saving 2 of their 3 attempts, whilst all the takers found the back of the net.

Our dream run continues, and we are just one game away from the World Cup final!

image.thumb.png.adf3eac6b4c5fadcad91ed35f28e9fbd.png

But we first had to get past Uruguay, who also had to get through a penalty shootout in the quarters.

We struggled to get going in this one, and their speed down the wings had our wing backs needing replacing by half time! Their two goals were both fully justified, and we can have no complaints about this one, beaten by the better side, unfortunately.

Our dreams lie shattered, and we are forced to play one more game, the meaningless third place playoff.

image.png.b88dcf0afd90c40899b76006acf9877d.png

The one reassuring thing is that at least we lost to the eventual winners, who beat Croatia to lift the trophy.

But I'm massively disappointed, as we had a great side, ranked in the top 10 in the world, and were on an amazing run of form. It just wasn't to be.

image.thumb.png.584be411adeceb3598a563e416b7536c.png

And in the aftermath, the manager merry-go-round, we have left the North American champions, applying for jobs in Europe or South America....

image.thumb.png.82d7c56533cc36dd7b9899198a8251c8.png

And we have got the dream job, back home at the 2nd best side in the world, in England!

Only worrying thing is that after a disappointing campaign, a whole host of players have called it a day in representing their country. Just hoping the squad is still strong, and able to put in a strong challenge for Euro 2036.

image.png.8d1ab314b4ef41e0f74dfee868e8990c.png

Either way, can't wait for this challenge, but for now, it is back to Barcelona...

...where, after a number of summer transfers, including signing a 35 year old Trent Alexander Arnold, we are the bookies favourites for the title. Hoping we don't let them down!

WHAT'S NEXT

With the final domestic trophy I required now out of the way and completed I am on the hill with 31/32 of the achievements done and Just the AFC Asian cup left to win...The next time this comes around however is not until 2055... so the wait will be fairly long with also a world cup in between which I will need to make sure I don't get sacked at. I have resigned from Lazio and will holiday up to International squad selections and games.

after resigning at Tianshan, i basically took the first and only job available at the mighty Stellenbosch Football Club in South Africa....

We're half way through the season sitting in 10th and have 4 days left of the transfer window and with the SA Cup to play. They're the current holders so I get the chance to defend it

Season 2029 / 30 - Stellenbosch Football Club

Started mid way through the season in 10th position, won some games, lost some games and finished in 7th.  In the Cup we made it to the semis and then rightfully lost that game 4 - 1.  Very inconsistent results and ended up getting thumped 6 - 2 in on of the league games.

At the World Cup with Iran as expected we beat Haiti and then lost to France in the group stage which meant we were paired up against ranked 13th team in the world. We gave away a penalty in the first half but then somehow managed to equalise with our first attack to reply relatively quickly.  We then conceded in injury time of the first half and that just about done it.   We have the Asian Cup at the end of this year but have lost quite a few of our stars through retirement.

This job came up in South Africa which meant my tenure at Stellenbosch was extremely short!  Sorry fans

2031 - Asian Cup

After losing a significant chunk of my starting lineup from the World Cup last year via retirement, my expectation going into the Asian Cup was as high.  We would need some luck with the draw for sure!

Was given an easy group with Qatar, Singapore and Tajikistan. However, drawn in Group E next to us were both South Korea and Australia so we most likely would have to play against one these :seagull:

Up against the toughest of the three first up Qatar and we scored 2 goals in the first two minutes and ended up routing them 6 - 0. That followed 4 - 1 and 3 - 0 wins against Singapore and Tajikistan to top the group.  Australia lost to Sth Korea so we're up against my bitter sweet home rivals!

Second Round

Spoiler

An even match with very little chances to begin with until Juric gave the Aussies the lead in the 31st minute.   We then conceded again in the 54th minute and 67th minute to all but knock us out.  We managed to peg one back in the 79th and then quickly again in the 81st minute to set up a nervous last 10 minutes.  Unfortunately we couldnt equalise and so we're out.    Australia then went on to win having easy matches against Thailand, China and Uzbekistan!!!

After the tourny, I was sacked!  My first of the save...   to be truthful, i would have resigned anyways.   The coveted South Korea post has become available which ive applied for, after they were knocked out in the second round as well.

Feyenoord 2033-34

Competitions

Erevisidie - League Table    Results 1    Results 2

The real aim this year and although it was up and down, we finally managed to break Ajax's stranglehold on the title and seal a first title in 17 years for the club. We actually finished on 1 point less than last season when we was runners up but Ajax's team is starting to age and they dropped more points this year again. A win at home in matchday 31 was vital as they sat 2 points above us going into that game and we clung on to seal a 1-0 home win. 3 winnable games remained and we didn't disappoint.

UEFA Champions League - Group    Results

We had a tough group with Chelsea, Napoli and Young Boys. A big opening win against Young Boys before a brilliant win over Napoli had us in a strong position after 2 games. The 2 losses to Chelsea followed but they were a lot closer than last seasons games which shows the progress made. After 4 games we was tied on 6 points with Napoli and a draw with them then meant we needed to beat Young boys which we did. A tie against PSG awaited us and they was just too strong over the 2 legs as we exited 4-2.

Toto KNVB Beker - Results

No importance to me this season having won this 2 years ago. Played rotated sides and somehow beat Ajax and then lost to Utrecht.

Johan Cruuf Schaal - Result

The season opener was a disappointment. No real value to winning this other than bragging rights so played a young side in prep for the Super cup game 3 days later and we got spanked.

UEFA Super Cup - Result

A reward for last seasons Europa League success and we managed to beat English giants Man City.

Playing Squad

Squad    Transfers

This is my favourite squad so far and one I genuinely feel with another season or 2 could potentially go on and win the Champions League. The team is stacked with young talent in almost every position. My 3 key men this season were:

Jose Sanchez (RW) - The Columbian winger is a sensational player and has really improved this season. He started the season a bit slowly again but when in full flow he is impossible to stop. 12 goals and 6 assists in 36 starts this season.

Alexis Aguilar (LW) - The Mexican winger is part of my front three and they are a joy to watch. He didn't score until January and does need to work on that side of his game but 4 goals and 17 assists is a decent return in 40 starts.

Marko Culum (ST) - I asked for more from him after last season and he has stepped up. 40 goals and 4 assists in 35 starts is a fantastic return.

Next Season

With a league title and Cup win now in the bag, I am going to start looking to the big 5 leagues now. I dont really want to walk away from this team as the potential is unreal here. But the challenge takes priority. My contract is up this summer anyway so it will be easy to leave. I also have a World Cup with S Korea this summer, the aim is to get to the 2nd round and with a group including Serbia and Paraguay this is no certainty even though we are in fine form and with the Asian Cup next season, I cant afford to lose my job there.

Hall of Fame

Cape Town Spurs

Ibrahim N'Goran (AML) - was only with us for one season before moving on, but what a season it was. He was the main man as we managed to win a first DSTV Prem title.

Romuald Traore (AMR) - Another player who I managed for just the one season. But with N'Goran moving on, he made up for the goals and assists loss to lead us to a league and Champions League double.

Brandon Peterson (GK) - Signed on a free at the start of our first season in the Prem, he went on to make 144 appearances in total and was a mainstay as we conquered Africa.

Neil Zondi 22a (ST) -  Part of first youth intake, he went on to become our main goal threat. He scored 63 goals in 93 games in all competitions.

Tigres UANL

Aldair Benitez (CM) - Only been in charge of him 6 months but this kid can go on to be something very special. Will look to resign him at some point in the future.

Dejan Joveljic (ST) - Was here when I arrived and has been sensational up top. 37 goals in 36 games meant he was a key part of our treble winning team.

William Ramos  (AMC) - The American was one of our first signings at the club. 9 goals and 20 assists in 52 games doesn't justify just how important he was to us.

Miguel Rodriguez (CB) - Another player who was only with us 6 months. But the big centre back deserves his place, an average rating of 8.09 and 10 goals from 21 games is superb returns.

Guangzhou

Ibrahim N'goran (AML) - He was sensational for me at Cape Town and he has been on another planet ever since bringing him to Guangzhou. 85 goals alongside 69 assists in just 76 games is unreal.

Zhan Zhiqiang (ST) - Another player who's goal return has been spectacular. Signed for 1.8m the Chinese striker has hit 92 goals in 78 games.

Lee Tae-Suk (LB) - Wing backs are a vital part of my tactical system and the South Korean has played the role to perfection. 40 games and 17 assists is a nice return.

Neil Vargas (CB) - The American CB was one of the first players I signed as when I took over the side had no quality in defence at all. Alongside Tae-Suk, Vargas has been a major part of a defence that has broken records. we conceded 8 goals in 34 league games last season and at one point kept 14 consecutive shut outs with Vargas playing a key role.

Corinthians

Tafael (AMR) - Was a key player from the day I arrived, Scoring 60 and getting 34 assists in 92 games.

Jose Campos (RB) - The 16 year old played over 40 games for me and was brilliant.

Cristiano Moraes (ST) -  Signed at the start of the second season for £6.25m he proved an absolute steal as he scored 44 goals in 60 games.

Feyenoord

Marko Culum (ST) - The striker was at the club when I arrived and instantly became a key player notching 99 goals and 20 assists in 115 games.

Mohamed Amine Belhajjam (GK - The GK was signed from Ajax just days after I arrived and proved a solid foundation of the teams progress. He averaged a clean sheet every other game over 3 seasons playing 98 missing just 4.

Ruben Mesquita (CB) - Was at the club when I arrived and proved to be a class act at CB or CM. Almost left after my first season but I managed to convince him to stay and he has been happy since.

Louis Hughes (AMC) - Another player who was at the club when I arrived and has been sensational for me. Has filled in at AMR and ST when needed and always done a solid job.

Season 2030/31 - Kaizer Chiefs

My first full season in South Africa and with the Chiefs, i didnt really know what to expect.  The team I inherited stacked up well and included a number of South African international capped players.  Brought in some top up players including a couple of Argentinian loans but that was about it.

It took until the 10th game to drop a point and out of 30 league games, we won 27 of them. We also won every single domestic cup possible.  Next year we go for the Champions League.

On the international front, I failed to become the new South Korea's manager and so i finished the season unemployed at that front.

World Cup 2034

Group Stage

Paired against Paraguay and Serbia, both ties proved as difficult as they looked on paper. A 2-2 draw with Paraguay was followed by a 1-1 draw with Serbia. The draws were enough to see us through courtesy of Serbia beating Paraguay 2-1.

2nd Round

Spoiler

Drawn against Costa Rica. We played them 17 days ago in a friendly where we ran out 3-1 winners. This time it was a closer game but we edged it 1-0

3rd Round

Spoiler

Drawn against Spain and having gone 1 round further than asked, we went into the game just happy to be here.  To go through on penalties was unexpected. 0-0 after 120 mins the lottery of a penalty shootout went out way.

Quarter Finals

Spoiler

Drawn against USA and after our heroics against Spain I fancied our chances. We was beaten 2-0 and deservedly so as we were 2nd best all over the park.

Semi Finals

Spoiler

Germany vs Brazil 4-1.

USA vs Mexico 0-0 Mexico win on Pens.

Final

Spoiler

Germany 1-0 Mexico

What Next?

Having now left my role at Feyenoord I am on the look out for a new club job. At international level we have the 2035 Asian Games in 6 months time so that will be the main focus whilst hoping a good club role pops up.

New Job

Appointment

Having left Feyenoord on 15/05/2034 I had to wait until 19/11/2034 for my next role. Stepping into replace Diego Simeone is going to be no easy task. I take over with the club sitting in 10th in La Liga. As far as the leagues history goes, city rivals Real Madrid are clearly the dominant force. They have won 13 of the last 14 league titles including the last 9. I thought overthrowing Ajax was a challenge and it appears this will be even tougher.

Season 2031/32 - Kaizer Chiefs

After winning everything domestically last season, sole focus was the champions league this season. Barely needed to make any adjustments to the squad.

The year was quite straight forward, click, play, win and maintain squad fitness although we finished with slightly less points than last year.  Won the league with a few games to go, also won all domestic cups again for a clean sweep.

On the champions league front, it was evident in the group stage that we again had the most dominant team winning 6 out of 6.

I've struggled with getting in to this challenge this year and honestly I think I just fell in love with my Dafuge Challenge save, but I've thoroughly enjoyed this challenge in the past. I've not played FM for 2/3 weeks, I've had a break and I'm going to have one last attempt at it with the new update being released. My first job up is Sao Jose in Brazil, I've never started in Brazil before so I'm looking forward to it, if I remember correctly they have lots of games in a season so dreading that part. They're in a decent league position too which is rare for this challenge, so I'll try my best not to mess it up!

RESULTS

Not the best of starts to my time at Sao Jose, we had 5 games to see out the good start to the season that they had and blew it winning 0 of those games although 2 of the 3 draws were from conceding in the 90+ minute! Although my board expectation for next season is just not to finish the bottom of the league so feel I will have time to build this club, I will also now get chance to bring in players that play in the positions I need so hopefully next season we hit the ground running.

Man City - 2027

So....a few seasons have lapsed since my inital update/start. From winning the league in Chile staright after promotion, to a short stay in Hungary (check notes), followed by the English challenge within a challenge!

image.thumb.png.074213ffc9ebf7ef0ec7e54188523320.png

Middlesbrough and Leicester were huge challenges because they were in so much debt! I had to sell many top players just to get the ones i wanted in. That was the first battle.....then came wages! Good players demand wages that they don't deserve yet. And when your own players come in wanting a £50k wage increase for scoring 5 times in a season.....Bye Bye! I certainly gave up a chance at the title with Leicester to ensure the FA cup was won. Players needing rests so much and as everyone knows, FM22 is big on player tiredness relating to form.

Anyway....I'm at City. The Prem is won. The champions League is the next target. I had to sell off Grealish, KDB, Sterling and Cancelo due to their age and the fact they "wanted a new challenge". Mega wages saved!

image.thumb.png.5d6cda2fe675ef1dd762d1a5ddc8ad84.png

Adding Wesley Fofana to this seasons transfers at a cost of £77m. Now I currently have £79.18m to spend along with £1.09m wage budget available! Haha. Not sure where or if i need to strenghten really. Declan Rice and Frenkie De Jong mastering the midfield could probably do with a 2nd back up that will inevitably get annoyed when i don't play them enough.

POST 25: Spanish Invasion

Having won the Copa del Rey last time out, this year was all about the league, and perhaps the Champions League if possible.

Surprisingly, after being touted by the media as the favourites to win La Liga, we started well and looked like a competitive team, even though we had quite a few aging stars in the side - Alexander-Arnold, Ramsdale, de Ligt, Joao Felix, etc...

It was actually our international job that was on the ropes, as we started our Nations League campaign with two losses. But with a change in formation, the tide turned quite quickly, and a string of four wins helped us to top our group and advance to the finals stage. This is all group preparation ahead of Euro '36, as the squad gel and take a liking to the tactic I've devised for them.

image.thumb.png.b08ff8fa8519db888462bae9e706001b.png

A similar sort of struggle in our Champions League group, with an early loss to Porto meaning we were playing catch up for most of the matches. But we beat them in the return match, and headed into the final group fixtures level on points but behind in the group. Our big win over didn't end up being that necessary as Porto stumbled and lost to Rennes anyway.

image.png.7a8faaaa9790aafd7a6fc5368582f185.png

By the time we reached the winter break in mid-December, things looked pretty good. Although we aren't top of the league, we are unbeaten and Atletico are about to head into a tough set of fixtures in the new year. So things are looking good for us and our title chances.

image.png.e066dbea9582b2ac9c5902f3a10e011a.png

With lots of emails at the end of the year for so many different awards, found one with my name on it. But it was more my efforts with Mexico, a great team that I left behind nearly 6 months ago!

image.thumb.png.0598e7ad639868fb85007e9a455f29de.png

As we reach the end of the season, the games become tougher and have more hanging over each result.

Were drawn against Chelsea, the holders, in the UCL Quarter Finals. All was looking good, with us holding a 2-1 aggregate lead, until some Norwegian called Erling Haaland popped up with a goal with minutes left to play, extending the game into extra time. Our tired legs hung on for another 30 minutes, and thankfully the penalty gods smiled on us, as Reece James missed his spot kick to send us through to the semi finals.

image.png.1eb20134405782248654f3ad7c7b9347.png

Meanwhile, in the domestic cup competition, we had the completely opposite approach. Resting our first team players throughout the competition, it was a surprise that we made it all the way to the final. But the reserves were no match for Atleti's first team, and in a bit of a drab game, our second XI were unfortunate to not help us to defend our trophy.

image.thumb.png.159998abb2bd9d30c5bbd3ad0584a030.png

What was sadder than that loss was our 32nd league game of the season, significant in it being our first league loss of the campaign, coming oh so close to an invincible season.

Don't know if will ever come this close again across the Big 5 leagues in this save, although PSG have won every title in France since Lille's shock triumph in 2020/21, so there is still some hope.

image.png.40909f442274f317ba482908c4ac5d6d.png

And then there was more heartbreak, as the sky blue of England, aka Manchester City, succeeded in knocking us out of Europe, and actually went on to win the competition. Frustrating that we came so close, but now have to do it all over again.

image.thumb.png.473f159fa789291ebddf6337abacf8bc.png

But not long after, it was confirmed - I had my first Big 5 league title, wrapping La Liga up quite comfortably in the end, with Atletico never coming within 5 points of us after losing a few matches in a row.

image.png.4e6d5107c3fab96de169b9599e941f56.png

Although these things seem broken, they are still satisfying ways to looks back on a rather good season....

image.png.38a1b2c23091730d2ab9e23ef496eaf6.png

image.png.7fe45ca6b94d8e4b367fb2b8dc40abd9.png

And we are up to #10 in the Worldwide HOF, so that's nice.

image.png.e10f3415255e36241168f55c9939d927.png

And in the Nations League finals, we beat France but were then defeated by Spain. But things are looking good for the Euros, with an Englishman being named the best player in the world. So there's all to play for in 12 months time.

image.png.436d027ae60c45fcc847c0ebe6507510.png

Actively looking for a new job over the summer, as have accomplished everything needed to in Spain.

Otherwise, will stay here and see how we do in the Champions League. But if anything decent does open up, I will be jumping ship straight away.

AFC Asian Cup 2035

Group Stages

Drawn in Group F alongside Saudi Arabia, UAE and Australia expectations were that we eased our way through the group. First up was UAE who we beat 2-0 but it should have been more. Our second game was against Saudi Arabia who we also beat 2-0. Our last game was against Australia and we rested our first 11 and suffered a 2-0 loss.

2nd Round

Spoiler

In the 2nd round we met Japan. And I thought this would have been a tougher game but we eased through 3-0.

Quarter Final

Spoiler

In the Quarter Finals we met Iraq. And I thought this was an easy tie but they put in a brilliant defensive performance to keep the game at 0-0 after 90 mins. Our quality proved just too much though eventually as we ran out 3-0 AET.

Semi Final

Spoiler

In what really should have been the final we faced Australia. After they beat my 2nd side in the group stages I knew this would be tough. 0-0 after 120 mins we held our nerve to win a shootout and seal a final spot.

Final

Spoiler

The final was against Iran. They are a team with some poor players but they have also produced some really good regens so this was going to be a tough game. With our last 2 games going to ET my squad was suffering and it showed as we grinded to a 1-1 draw after 90 mins even though they had a man sent off after 35 mins. The extra man showed in ET though as we went 2-1 up and held on to seal the Asian Cup.

What Next?

Spoiler

After a successful World Cup campaign in 2034 and our Asian Cup triumph I will be stepping down from my role as South Korea boss. I have 3 international competitions to win still, The Euros, The Copa America and The World Cup. Ideally the Euros and World Cup will be with England. England won the 2028 Euros but are still yet to win a 2nd World Cup.

Season 2032 - Fluminense FC

Starting half way through the season in 7th spot, still in the second round of the Copa Libertadores and the Brazilian Cup gave me quite a bit to work with.  The team I inherited was pretty decent but lacked defensive cover and depth all round.

On the league front it was about managing players fitness levels, games were coming thick and fast and the lack of depth was hurting us. And to be honest, the league was probably the third of my priorities as we never stood a chance to challenge for the title and only need to finish in 7th to qualify for next year's Copa Libertadores.

The Brazilian Cup was a batch of crazy results. In the quarter finals, we had lost away 4 - 0 and in the return leg i played virtually a second team and won 4 - 0 after 90 minutes, then won on penalties.  In the semi final against rivals Flamengo (1st in league), we lost the away leg 2 - 1. The return leg we scored in the first half in a tight game and with 15 minutes to go we parked the bus and held on to win 1 - 0.  Much to my novice dismay, the match went to penalties!!  what happened to the away goal rule??  Of course, there is none in this Cup.  Luckily enough we won on penalties and through to the Final against SEP (i think is Palmeiras).  Again drawn away in the first leg which we found ourselves 2 - 0 at HT.  Made some changes after the break and we walked out of the game with a 2 - 2 draw.  The home leg was a tight affair however we lost 1 - 0 despite having the better chances.

The Copa Libertadores was a pipe dream but we were always going to give it our best shot! In the second round we had Internacional which we won 2 - 1 over two legs.  We were then drawn against Boca who in my opinion had the strongest team.  However we pummelled them 3 - 0 at home in the first leg and a 1 - 0 loss away was enough to see us enter the all Brazilian semi final. Of the 3 other remaining teams, we got SEP again however we were lucky enough to escape Flamengo who were runaway league champions. At home first and after leading 2 - 1, we capitulated late on and lost 3 - 2 to make it really difficult to get through to the final as away goals definitely count in this tourny.  In the away leg, we conceded first making it 4 - 2 on aggregate, my hopes were dashed!  I went a bit more attacking in the second half and we managed to score in the 50th minute to give us a slight chance. We still needed 2 more goals however....  80th minute and still nothing, so went Very Attacking, this seemed to pay off as we scored in the 87th minute. We sent everyone forward and with the last kick of the game, Emerson scored his second in the 96th minute to send us to the final!!  Absolutely amazing!!!   Gremio managed to knock off Flamengo as well which helped.  The final itself was a bit of a borefest with both teams nervous and fouling a lot, however a first half goal by Nenenco was enough to crown Fluminense champions!    Two continental champions leagues within the space of 6 months!!

This was enough for me as I find this league brutal with games so have resigned and will look to make a move to Mexico next.

ps having issues uploading the pics right now for some reason, but will provide them at a later point
