We had to take it to extra time but we ended up thrashing Argentina 5-2 in the end.

A great achievement for me.

Not many left to tick off now.

Light at the end of the tunnel lol.

I have resigned from Portugal manager because England, France and Italy national team jobs were available.

Ideally I would like to get the Brazil or Argentina job so I can win the Copa America as the South American nations jobs don't come available as often as the big Europeon nations jobs.

I loaded up Portgual for after I completed Spain but in the summer barely any Spanish club jobs come available and none that I was interested in managing.

I then noticed that FC Porto were looking for a manager so I thought I would take on Portugal and try retire my club career in Spain.

I also got my next International Job and it is the one I wanted.

Season 10 Review

Competition Overview . Cup Results

Another very easy domestic double completed. We were obviously the best team in Germany, but it was a little suprising just how much better we were. If I really wanted to it would be very easy to stay here and win for the next 5-10 years, as there is literally a 15-18 year old who is going to be a world beater at every position. However we move on. I lost to Man City in the final of the Champs League. I decided to stay on for a couple extra months and try to win the Club World Cup. Of course we won our group, and then got Man City straight away and lost to them again.

Still ticking away with Japan, and it's starting to get towards the Asia Cup and World Cup.

Oh and my new job is........

I wasn't sure what to expect after I resigned. Thankfully my former team Juventus had sacked Jurgen Klopp after finishing 2nd in Serie A. They bought back a familiar face in Zidane, and thankfully I replaced him in Madrid.

A fairly difficult league title win for us with Benfica breathing down our neck but we managed to win the title on the last game of the season luckily.

We also won the Taca De Portugal cup by beating Benfica on penalties.

Atletico Madrid Season Review

Competitions

image.thumb.png.11109ba40ef670840bb38d6963139c76.png

We were just a few points short of winning the title in my first season in charge of Atletico Madrid. We only lost 3 games in the league all season but we drew 13 games which is way too many. If we turn a few of them draws into wins we will win the La Liga next season.

I got the Copa America next with Brazil.

I am hoping to win this first time in trying.

UPDATE - This might make it difficult to win the title with Atletico Madrid :seagull:

I have resigned as Brazil manager and I applied for the France, Italy and Spain manager jobs.

I accepted the France national team position.

A good squad full of young players. Which is good as the next Euros is not for 4 years and that is the only international competition I got left to win.

Season 11 Review

Competitions Overview . League Table . Cup Results . Champs League Results

A really good, easy enjoyable season. We walked the league and should have done so undefeated but we lost a shocking game against Real Betis, where we hit the post 4 times! The Cup was pretty easy. We had the beating of Barcelona all season including a famous 7-0 win at home, so I wasn't worried about them in the cup. We had an easy semi final against Real Sporting who had knocked out Villarreal, Athletic & Atletico Madrid along the way.  The final was another easy game, although it might look closer than it ever was. We were in complete control.

The Champions League was the big one this year. Thankfully with our team it was a pretty easy run. We topped the group and then eased past Roma & Man Utd. Newcastle was a bit trickier but only because we had 4 disallowed goals over 2 legs. The final gave us a chance at revenge against Man City. Thankfully this year we put it right and beat them 2-0, with Haaland no where to be seen. We had a man sent off in the 75th minute just to make it a little interesting but it didn't matter, we had won our 5th and final Champions League.

I stayed on at Real Madrid thinking that we would have the Club World Cup coming up. I didn't realise that it had changed to every 4 years. I have just finished the World Cup with Japan where we got to the 3rd Round. That is more than enough to keep my job and now have to wait until December for the Asia Cup to start. I've just resigned from Real Madrid and will be on the look out for a job in France now. Hopefully the usual World Cup sackings will help.

New Job

spacer.png

spacer.png

I am a very lucky man! After resigning from Real Madrid, they quickly appointed Liverpool manager Antonio Conte. In turn Liverpool appointed previous PSG manager Freddy Boyer (regen). The good news was that I was their number one choice and they eventually appointed me as manager. The bad news is that they waited almost a month to offer me the job, despite applying for the job the same day it became available. This has been a massive problem in FM23 and hopefully it is fixed in FM24.

So I now have 18 days to rebuild the team and staff, while also playing 2 games. Oh and the club is expected to be £24m in debt by the end of the season. I am very thankfull that I'm hopefully only going to be here for 1 season.

We won the Spanish La Liga on the thinnest of margains. I actually can't figure out how we won the title so if any experts on Spanish League rules can tell me I would appreciate it.

Just one trophy left to win and then I am done.

Asia Cup 2035 Review

spacer.png

spacer.png

We got a stinker of a group draw against 2 of the hardest teams in the whole competition. Thankfully we came through them with flying colours. The knockout stages were relativly easy and the final was a walk in the park. Overall a pretty good time with Japan, especially with them hosting the 2034 World Cup means that despite being in charge for over 900 days, we only managed them for 20 games!

Competitions Overview . League Table . Cup Results

Thank god that season is over. For some reason I couldn't get interested in PSG. The team was ok at best, and there is absolutly no money available. Despite the limitations of the squad we were able to walk the league and cup which is all that was required. We found the Champions League pretty hard going. We still managed to finish in the top 8 of the league phase but then found an average Liverpool team too hard, and we were out in the quarter final stage.

My original plan was to make Aston Villa (My Team) my final team and finish the club challenge there, but I still need to complete a lot of International Competitions, so I think that I might just take the best team available to me and try and finish the club side of the challenge. I can then always move to Villa while I am trying to finish off the International side.

My south American coach is the next to get hired, in England of all places for Chester, who are predicted to finish 4th. Should be a simple job to get the off the bottom of the league

Then the North American coach gets hired for a Spanish B team (not sure if that was a wise step but I guess we'll see)....

Guizhou, a Chinese club in utter financial disarray, is willing to take a chance on my Asian coach, who will have to negotiate a massive budget deficit and a transfer embargo until the summer transfer window... Best of luck to him

Interested in starting this challenge but unsure how I would set up my game, does anyone have any suggestions? I know it is relevant to the specs of the device. For reference and I can load top 5 nations top 2 leagues and can run a save comfortably but I'm unsure what to select to maintain a optimal experience and avoid risking missing out on contents and leagues and have never tried adding or removing leagues from a save before. If anyone has any advice it would be greatly appreciated, many thanks :)

New Jobs

I've already finished this season, so the review will be up a bit later. We had to wait until November for the Manchester United job to become available. It was a great place to hopefully end my club career. They've had a tycoon takeover, and wiped away all the debt from the club, so this has become a very easy club to manage.

I got the USA job not long after I resigned from the Japan job. The best thing about the USA job, is that we are entered into the Copa America, so could potentially knock off 2 competitions with 1 nation. The other advantage is that the Gold Cup comes around every 2 years so I don't have to wait very long before I have a chance to win the required competition.

Season 13 Review

Competition Overview . League Table . Cup Results

A really nice season. We won the league on the last game of the season, followed that up with a win in the FA Cup final smashing my favourite team Aston Villa. We then played Hertha Berlin in the Champs League final and completly forgot to turn up. We ended up drawing 1-1 after 120 minutes, and then lost on penalties after missing our first 3 pens. It was such a crap way to end this season, but the main thing was finishing off the English side of the challenge, and also qualifying for the Club World Cup which is the last thing left to win at club level.

I think that I'm going to stay at Man Utd until the end of the challenge. I've put in such a lot of work in regards to transfers and staff etc that it seems like it would be a bit of a waste to move on in the next year or 2. Maybe once I've won the Club World Cup then I might change my mind...

A suprising Copa America. We held our own pretty well, although I realised that our defense is our massive weakness. We are able to stick with teams and score goals but we are simply unable to keep the ball out of our goal. I must say that the Copa America tournament is terribly organised. Playing a group game every 3 games and then only being allowed to make 3 subs is terrible. Anyway, time to wait for the Gold Cup.

Sorry. forgot to get back to you on this.

I'd recommend loading 2 or 3 leagues to start with. If you haven't added or removed leagues before, you'll have to do it with this challenge. Obviously you need to add leagues where you stand a chance of getting a job with no quals / exp. The most common ones are South Africa or China, but if you want to start in Europe, then load all the available divisions to your chosen league. i can't promise you'll get a first job in every nation even then, but the most common European league to start off in is England (non-league).

Take note of the set up needs for Asia.

Quote

I recommend using the advanced option when setting up the game to add current international players from Asia. This should increase the number of nations available to manage in Asia, and make it easier to win the Asian Cup.

There are other bits of advice in the first few posts of the thread, or you can look at other people's careers and see how they did it. there's different ways of doing the challenge though.

Maybe that (the SirAlex challenge) is why I conflate you. That and the fact that I thought he was great. I'm sure you are too.

I feel like i made some good friends on the thread over the years, and it does suck when they disappear.

The reason I joined the forums was to be apart of the SAF challenge, he was great at running it and was always very nice and helpful in the limited time I interacted with him.

If anyone's played in India, are there 2 eligible domestic cups there? the federation cup and the Durand Cup. Don't want to load up the league, and then get a nasty surprise.

I think Japan has 2 domestic cups, so it will be interesting to see if we can transfer our current saves to FM24 and then add the Japan league. If we can that might be my first stop.

I need domestic cups, so will try to get them in nations with 2 eligible cups. Done Scotland already. Have Portugal loaded already. Malaysia has 2. Need one more.

Vikeologist's 2051/2 Dortmund Report

20231018130136_1.thumb.jpg.36cbbe1c3a5b43da8644b686cd58c4cd.jpg

Starting the season I was certain that we would storm the league. Yes, I’d been certain of that in the Bundesliga 5 times before, but surely this time my team was too good to fail. Quality, depth. How could it go wrong?

It went wrong. In fact it never really went right. We finished a distant 2nd again. I just don’t know what else I can do, apart from sell all the underperforming players and start from scratch.

European Football Championship (and Copa America since the World cup will be in 2 years) this summer. I am very close to just giving up this challenge. It’s just not fun, but the prospect of a decent international job is pulling me in for the moment, and of course maybe next season I’ll win the Bundesliga.

After the Championship, Germany and Spain didn’t want me. I’m not sure why anybody from Germany would doubt my abilities.

Anyway, I have a choice between Netherlands, Italy (to go back) and Argentina. I think Netherlands looks the best option, (and indeed that's the job I took).

Have nearly played another season, so you won't have long to wait to find out if I can win the league at the 7th time of asking.

Top Goalscorer – Tuğrul Özcan – 36

Again injured a lot. I knew that he was injury prone and brought in backup. They were all injured at the same time.

Highest Average Rating (minimum 10 matches played) Tuğrul Özcan – 7.55

Man of The Match – 2 players – 6

MVP – Tuğrul Özcan

Yeah, this has been my experience in my 5-man save. All interviews were with either Chinese teams who are in financial ruins, South African teams (who are in financial distress, though not ruins), Vanarama N/S teams, and Spanish B teams.

I apparently am completely unable to coach at the Vanarama level, having resigned in disgrace from Chester and then fired from Bradford (PA) after I spent my entire tenure at both teams firmly at the bottom of the league. For whatever reason, neither team had players willing to score. You could have put the ball on the goal line, in the center of the goal, and they would have still found a way to smash in a car window in the stadium parking lot, rather than scoring. Both teams had a shot-to-goal ratio of somewhere around 50-1

Do your tactics work at other levels? I find that my tactics do work better in the top leagues, but not really at international level, and very much not in the Bundesliga.

One more go then, and this time we finally won the league. The table makes it look comfortable, but it never felt that way.

That just left the cup. 8 seasons ago when I took over Leverkusen in the middle of the season, we reached the cup final where we lost to Bayern. I wasn’t that upset, because I thought there’d be plenty more chances, but this was the first German Cup final I’ve reached since then.

A big match because losing would mean that I’d be short of 3 cups instead of 2 for the challenge and have to spend at least part of a season in an extra nation. (I don’t need any more leagues, so can leave after I’ve won the cups).

And losing is exactly what happened. This might be the least enjoyable 3 seasons I’ve ever spent in FM, including this one. I just hate these players. I hate them. Apart from a midfielder I signed in the middle of last season called Noah Groot. He’s in Dutch national squad as well, and I do enjoy shouting, ‘He Is Groot’ whenever he scores, or has an assist. The assists are more common because he’s an attacking midfielder and set piece specialist.

But there was never the slightest chance of my staying at Dortmund.

And I think that’s probably it for my doing this challenge on FM23. I wanted to win the Bundesliga on this version, but I think I’ll continue this at some point on FM24.

Top Goalscorer – Tuğrul Özcan – 44

Again injured a lot. I knew that he was injury prone and brought in backup. They were all injured at the same time.

Highest Average Rating (minimum 10 matches played) Noah Groot – 7.64

Man of The Match – Noah Groot - 9

MVP – He Is Groot.

Season 14 Review

Club career completed. I have decided that with the new game potentially coming in the next week or so, that it would just be quicker for me to end my club career. I have won everything there is to win, and although it would have been very easy to keep going with Man Utd and end up top of the hall of fame, I just want to get this challenge completed. I can always go back to a club after finishing this challenge.

This was a pretty easy victory. The only challenge in North America is Mexico, who were in the Final of the Copa America. Thankfully we managed to power through the early stages and were able to alternate between two teams up until the Semi Final and Final. It was dissapointing to concede our only goal of the tournament in the final 5 minutes of the Final, but it doesn't matter and this is another competition ticked off.

I have decided to stay on as USA manager for the next year or so. We still have 4 games in our World Cup qualifiers but they will be easy enough. Then we will have the World Cup next year and after that I can look at hopefully getting a good European or South American job. In the mean time, time to go on holiday and power through the down time!!

International Round Up

spacer.png

We had a terrible World Cup with America. We should have done better against Netherlands in the 3rd Round, but it was that usual story. We get back into the game, scoring in the 74th minute, and then despite trying anything and everything there isn't another highlight for the rest of the game. With that we were out, but I wasn't that fussed. We were never going to win the World Cup with USA. The good news however was that other nations had done terrible.

spacer.png

spacer.png

Thankfully Brazil, had gotten knocked out of the World Cup the day before us, losing 2-1 to Switzerland. Obviously this was a fantastic oppertunity to knock off 2 of the 3 remaining competitions. I was going to stay for 4 years and if all goes to plan, leave Brazil after the next World Cup, having won both the Copa America and the 2040 World Cup.

We've started off really well in our World Cup qualifiers, currently winning 6 out of 6. I was then taken a little by suprise when I holidayed to the next squad confirmation, thinking that it was for the next round of qualifiers, then it turned out to be for the Copa America. The years really do fly by when you can holiday a lot of the time. Anyway once we had announced our squad and played our first game, I remembered how much I hate this competition. Playing a group game every 3 days, only having 3 subs and then the yellow cards not being removed after the group stages, really makes this a terrible tournament in my opinion.

Thankfully we won't have to worry about it again as we managed to win it. We game through our group in top spot, despite drawing 1 and losing 1. We then battered Chile in the Quarters, before scraping past Colombia on pens and then beating arch rivals Argentina in the Final. 1 more competition down 2 to go.

@Watson156 Close now, and I've realised that you've never achieved this before. I'd say you must be excited, but from my experience it's more a feeling of 'Please God, let this just be over."

Yeah thats pretty much it!!

I think it would be a lot different if we weren't so close to the new game coming out. If this was say 2-3 months a go then I wouldn't be in such a mad rush, and would have loved the chance to move to some other teams or at least stay and get to the top of the hall of fame.

Is anybody going to immediately try to carry on their Ultimate save on FM24.

I plan to do a bit of light testing to see if there are problems carrying on a save from 40 or so years down the line, but if people do encounter problems with their ultimate saves, either starting afresh or continuing, please do report them or let me know.

Immediate thing i notice is that with a transferred save, I cannot add Japan as a league, which is a pity. Quite fancied going there for one of my 3 remaining cups.

Final Update

spacer.png

spacer.png

So after winning Copa America, all that was left with Brazil was to win the World Cup. Things got off to a rough start drawing with China, however we quickly found our feet again and powered through into the later rounds. I can honestly say I haven't been so nervous for 3 FM games in a long time. I knew this was going to probably be my last chance to win the World Cup, especially as before the Quarter Final, FM24 Early Access was available. Anyway we just about beat Italy in extra time, were comfortably up against Spain before a couple of late goals made it a lot closer than it ever was. The Final was a rematch of the Copa America final. Thanfully this wasn't much of a match, it ended 2-0 but should have been 5 or 6, we missed so many chances.

Anyway after the World Cup was over we had to choose our final job. It was between Spain, Italy, Germany or France. We were offered Spain, Italy and France on the same day, and after a quick look at their squads, it was a pretty easy choice and we went for.........

spacer.png

Spain

spacer.png

spacer.png

We powered quickly through the next couple of years with Spain, and arrived at the Euro's. Thankfully we had a very good squad, and I was very confident. We proved this throughout the tournament as we were able to fully rest our players whenever we needed to. Infact we made 10 changes to our team for the Semi Final against Portugal. It was risky but with the Final so close after I wanted my best team available and fully fit for that game. I should mention that the rotation team had at least 6 players that were valued at over £100m+ so it wasn't a massive drop in quality.

Thankfully we managed to beat Netherlands in the Final and with that the Challenge is completed!!!

I've really enjoyed this challenge, and like I said a bit higher up, this coming game cycle I will try this again, but a bit earlier as I would have liked to end my club career at one of my favourite teams, but once I knew that the new game was quickly on its way, then I had to prioritise winning over longevity and potential winning.

Thanks all!

@Watson156 Congrats on achieving. The Hall of Fame is getting quite large now.

Only 2 completions (and about 13 pages) for Fm23. That probably due to the challenge killing bugs for the first half of FM23. (technically it didn't kill my challenge, but they certainly hindered me).

It's probably also due to me not putting as much effort into the thread as i used to, for which apologies. In the early years when scenarios were quite new, and we were trying to figure out the rules, I had more to say.

I am continuing my FM23 challenge on FM24. Really it was meant as more of a test save to identify any bugs, but if things go south, it's not like I can just go back to FM23 and scumsave the season. (Maybe if there's a bug in FM24 that really does make completion impossible, but it looks pretty stable so far).

This will be the 10th year of the challenge, and with the advent of women's' football, I'll want to have a challenge to include that new side of the game. Whether that has a new name with this continuing just with men's football, or we have a new Ultimater challenge, we'll have to see.

Anyway, my point is everyone, don't be scared to continue your Ultimate saves on FM24.Well, be a little scared because your tactics might not work, but so far mine seem to be at least on the same level, which given the nightmares I had at Dortmund and internationally isn't saying much.

Sadly I weren't able to give this a good go last year due to returning to work, been back about a year now. I have a good routine and I could probably do a season per week which should give me half a chance. I'm looking at starting in Japan this year, I'm a little sceptical about it as I've heard it's a very basic league addition and there could be some bugs. I'd like to try it out nontheless.

Certainly interested in knowing how Japan holds up. As  I said above, really fancied going there to complete the challenge.

Why do you load so many leagues? Adding and removing leagues is simple enough. But if you have that kind of computer power, fair enough.

I want as many options as possible when I start or in the earlier periods of the save. As I complete a league etc I set them to view only, So the deeper I get in to the save it really isn't to bad at all. I do the reverse of what normal people do.

League Table ~ Squad ~ Finances

I've managed to land a J3 League team who are overperforming at the moment, media prediction is 11th anf they are currently 3rd. I'm hoping to continue their good start to the season, we're miles away from top of the league but I'm hopeful we can try and catch up 2nd. I've not done too much tactics wise though so far so could be a bit ambitious looking up and not down.

Good evening guys. It’s been a while since I ventured here as in truth I’ve played very little over the past few months. My first child was born back in March and a lot of my time for fm disappeared. Not that I’d particularly missed it until now. I did miss my first fm release day (early release anyway) I’m about ten years, I did decide to throw hell for leather today and get myself back into the game.

There’s only one place for me to load up and that’s straight into the Ultimate Challenge. My playing time will be somewhat reduced to what it used to be but that should give some longevity to an already long style of save. I’m looking forward to playing and also looking forwards to getting in touch with the forum members. I’ll give you a boost too, as my success rate on this game is pretty abysmal. I’ve only once came remotely close to completion, with the Copa America proving the bane of my life back on FM22. I’m excited though, so will spent a few hours tonight reading through the pages I’ve missed before kicking off my save. Hopefully will speak soon, and keep ploughing on for now guys.

Welcome back! Are you going to continue your FM23 save?

No. My plan is to boot up a brand new save. Any new setup commitments?

What do you mean by commitments? I've carried on a save, because I thought that SI probably hadn't tested a lot of complicated long term saves being transferred. So, I can't really comment on problems with fresh saves.

I just wondered if there’s any new requirements when beginning a new save. Especially with the three new options when booting up a save.

I'm not sure those options make any difference to the challenge. It's a pity you're not going to continue your save, because I'd really like to see you complete it. Obviously you might complete it from scratch. but you seem to have one of those life things I've read about in novels.

You hadn't burned all your bridges internationally by failing with every major nation (as i have with my save which may well prevent me from completing).

Yeah it’s been tough to take but I’m ready to go all out from the start to try and complete. A completion would probably be up there with the birth of my daughter as one of my greatest life achievements. Unfortunately my fm ability is somewhat poor so taking a challenge like this is a real long shot. I’m keen to go again though. Will be starting my new save later on today. Just need to refresh my setup.
