England
World Cup 2030

Group Stages - Table | Fixtures - a crap 0-0 draw with Canada thanks to some excellent goalkeeping was followed by a 6-0 thrashing of the DRC.  We face the Netherlands in the second round.

2nd Round

Spoiler

England 4 Netherlands 2 - its nearly Euro 96 again as we get past the Dutch

3rd Round

Spoiler

England 2 Switzerland 1 - more comfortable than the scoreline suggests.  The Germans next..

 Quarter Final (if applicable)

Spoiler

England 3 Germany 1 (AET) - went to extra time where two screamers from Marcus Rashford and Declan Rice got us to the semis against Spain

Semi Final (if applicable)

Spoiler

England 3 Spain 0 - a great win against the hosts to get us to the final with Italy.

Final (if applicable)

Spoiler

Italy 1 England 2 (AET) - a much better final than IRL Euro 2020.  An early Rashford penalty looked to get us the cup until Italy scored late on to get us into extra time.  Mason Greenwood's 92nd minute goal enough for us to lift the world cup for only the 2nd time!  IT'S COMING HOME!!!

So I’ve been a bit slack and got 2 seasons worth of updates.

Opening and Closing Stage. Finished top of the table in both. Not that this matters, it all comes down to the playoffs. Again, I won the final both times taking me to 4 league titles in 2 seasons.

I had a host of little cups this year. I won the Leagues Cup again whilst heavily rotating through it. I also won the Champions Trophy and the Campoenes

Cup taking me to 9 trophies in 2 seasons.

Champions League- this is the one I wanted. First round was a sitter and duly dispatched the opposition. In the QF I had a convincing win away from home 1-0. In the return leg my star CM got himself sent off and from there it was me hanging on. They equalised and it went to pens where luckily I held on. Up next was the SF, first game was complete domination but I couldn’t score and it finished 0-0. In the return leg they opened the scoring. I equalised after 60 minutes to put me ahead on Away goals. Unfortunately I bottled it, conceded straight away and went out 2-1. Annoyingly the final looked a straight forward affair.

It was very frustrating to not win the CL as I was very dominant elsewhere.

I had the Euros with France. I drew 1-1 against World Champions Belgium. Next up was a comfortable 1-0 win followed by a 3-1 win being heavily rotated. Greece met me in the Round of 16 where I again won 3-1. I drew Germany in the QF and I played very well against them winning comfortably 2-0. By this point I was feeling good, had rotated my squad nicely and felt confident for the rest of the tournament. I had Belgium in the SF; they took a first half lead before I equalised not long after. I was the dominant side after this however I couldn’t get the break through and they scored with 5 to go. Was very disappointed to crash out.

I thought I was going to get the sack but I was feeling pretty done with France. Lots of near misses and I needed a change. Italy Portugal and England all came up, I applied at all 3 but was lucky enough to get the Italian Job.

I’ll keep this one short and sweet.

I was here for the CL. I really didn’t want to do another season of this league and a few of my main players were getting angsty about leaving. I was not sure if I could hold onto them.

Again, the round of 16 was a straight forward affair and won easily. Next up was LA, where I annihilated them at their home ground making the home leg a formality. The SF was a nail biter. The first leg was at home and like last season, I dominated without scoring. The away leg was a tense affair, i scored first to give me the lead but I conceded not long after. At this point I’m still going through on away goals. A few tense moments passed but I held on to make the final. In the final I made a horrific start as I was 2-0 down in the first 25 minutes. After this I switched to attaching and we got 2 goals before HT. I tried for a 3rd but overall I was happy with 2 away goals. The second leg I started positively and had a pen at the 30 minute mark. The ever reliable Vagner Luiz missed and the half ended 0-0. Luckily the second half went better and I scored 3 unanswered goals to clinch the NACL. I didn’t bother to hang around for the end of the season and duly resigned. No other trophies were won for the season. I am hoping to get a job in Brazil/Argentina next.

With Italy I had progressed to the SF of the Nations League. I had my old team France however I got revenge over my old team as I ran out convincing 3-0 winners. In the final I had powerhouse England who were just too strong for me and I lost 3-1. Another international final loss. England are very good on this and I think I’ll be playing a defensive counter attack style when I play them next. Now to find my next job.

So around a year in to my Lyon job this happens Man City offer me a job interview out of the blue... Now I feel it would be an easier club to win the Champions League etc with Man City I'm just unsure my about leaving my Lyon rebuild. We've dramatically reduced the age of the squad and if the players I've brought in develop the way they can this could be an enjoyable project still.

SQUAD WHEN I TOOK OVER                                                                                                      SQUAD NOW

Having said that I'm well aware time is running out for me to complete this save before FM22, If you look at the League Table I'm already 10 points off PSG with 17 games or so remaining. If I'd started this save around the time I usually do I'm for certain staying at Lyon but because time is of the essence I'm going to move to Man City.

Club Overview ~ Squad Overview ~ League Table ~ Finances

This is another ageing squad but with the resources and reputation of the club I feel it'll be a quicker fix than Lyon. I start off against Liverpool in the EFL Cup Semi Final already 3-0 down from the first leg thankfully we are still in the FA Cup and fighting for at least top 4.

Manchester City: 2075/76 Review

My most frustrating season possible of my career has just ended, without a trophy for us. We spent £108,000,000 on striker Raymon Jacobs from Ajax in the summer and I thought that he may prove the missing link in pushing us towards a title push. Unfortunately I was wrong. In fact we fell short across all competitions this season.

Table.png.ef1c66244d361f62ec32b1cf08228954.png

On top of missing out on the league title we also crashed out of the FA Cup, League Cup and Champions League competitions all at the semi final stage. Even worse for us was that it was our bitter rivals Manchester United who knocked us out of both the FA Cup and Champions League. A hugely disappointing campaign draws to a close and I’m very much licking my wounds with what to do.

This season felt like a real backward step and that’s incredibly disappointing. I truly felt that our squad had the quality to compete and we ended up well short of where we wanted to be. I’m unsure what to do now with my contract about to expire. I don’t want to leave the club until I win the Premier League but in honesty Manchester United look unbeatable. For now I’m going to push question marks about my club management career aside and focus on the Copa America with Columbia. My time with Columbia has gone well so far with us topping the pile of our World Cup qualification group. We’re unbeaten under my leadership so far and we should have a real shot of doing well at the forthcoming tournament

Just another quick update, I was unable to change Man City's fortunes around this season. The fact that I had failed to qualify for the Champions League meant I needed to convince the board to keep me on for this season to give me a fair crack at it. A lot of the big earners and older players are already on their way out of the club, I've already build my starting 11 for the new season just need to sort out a bit more depth and hopefully we can turn those dominate performances from last season in to win...

Columbia: Copa America 2076

After a truly disappointing campaign with my Manchester City time it was my opportunity to put it right during the summer with my Columbia side. My first reign in charge ended after an awful performance at the Copa America, but I had much higher hopes this second time around. Ranked sixth in the world we would enter as one of the favourites and hopes were high for a good solid showing.

Squad wise there were a couple of surprises and the media was left shocked as I named a couple of young talented players over more experienced heads. The squad was strong though, definitely looking to hold the quality needed to win a major international tournament. Centre back Gabriel Moreno and midfielder Yeison Martinez from my Manchester City squad were included as key components for any success.

1382461673_GroupTable.png.1a15c00899a32633f41f2a9d612e0724.png

We opened our campaign with a really strong showing as we saw off hosts Uruguay by a 4-0 score. We dominated from start to finish and in truth the result was never in doubt, despite a goalless first half. Next up was a thriller with Brazil. We took the lead three times but walked away with a point after a 3-3 draw. The game was full of entertainment but we were disappointed not to win. After that we thumped Ecuador 4-0 and saw off Peru 2-1 after a last minute strike from Burnley winger Andres Ceballos. That victory saw us qualify with a game to spare. We finished off with a victory over Japan to reach the quarter finals.

knockout.png.fd1392216e4e489587a276bef8597af5.png

Our quarter final game turned into a stroll after a Bolivia player was sent off just four minutes into the contest. We strolled to the so comfortable of victories and a semi final against Brazil. In two previous meetings under my leadership we’d led Brazil four times but drawn both games. I panicked after we threw away another lead, but this time we pushed on from there. An 89tg minute goal put us back in front before we topped it off deep in stoppage time with a third. A surprise victory that put us into the final where we would meet another of my former sides, Mexico. The 2nd best team in the world.

We entered the game as narrow underdogs as I looked to finally win this competition after failures previously with Columbia, Brazil and Mexico. I had high hopes though, especially having gone through the whole tournament unbeaten and relatively comfortably.

Final.png.49c4b7299a09ded57fa5e180e4e7033f.png

Absolutely devastating to lose yet another major international tournament final and in a game that was just so even. We stood toe to toe with superior opposition but just came undone right at the very end. I was gearing up for penalties only to concede with virtually the very last kick. Truly gutting to end our tournament in such harsh circumstances.

I see no reason to walk away from Columbia though, needing to chalk the Copa America off my list of required trophies. The only other international honour I need is the European Championships and they’ve only just taken place as well. Hopefully I can see out another four year cycle and my side can compete again having come so close.

Career Update: July 2076

After a really poor season with Manchester City I looked at myself and what I felt we could achieve going forwards. I didn’t want to leave the club but toppling our rivals Manchester United looked extremely difficult. I signed a new two year deal with city shortly after the season and prior to the Copa America. Just as I started to focus on improving my City squad to try and compete for the title, legendary manager Bill Stewart walked away from his position with United leaving an opening at a side guaranteed to be there or there about in the table next season. At that stage I decided I should make all the effort in the world to take his position and cross Manchester from the blue to the red.

Takeover.png.92d649d7d4d9c86566abccb16b6a0def.png

The Red Devil’s have been a constant thorn in my side since taking on the position with City. In the end I decided that if I couldn’t beat them then I should join them. I ripped up my contract with City to make myself available before approaching the club. They interviewed me before hiring me and putting me into an unbelievable opportunity. The squad is packed full of talent and really we should definitely win the league title. That’s my only target here, and I’m planning to do it in just the one year. They've won the last three Premier League titles and last season completed a remarkable campaign, winning every trophy available. I'll be hoping to add to my own personal collection of winners medals whilst at the club. The season is nearly upon us and I haven't made any signings yet but despite of that I still feel the squad is strong enough to at least add the all important Premier League title to my collection. That one really is my priority here.

I would like to give a go at this challenge and see how I can sustain with it. Would like to get few doubts clarified. Any help is appreciated.

1. I do not own FM21, and at this point don't want to buy it and will be buying FM22 as soon as it gets released. So, is it too late and too old to start this on FM20? I know Canada is missing (may be more nations/league) but that shouldn't be a problem as I can choose some other nation/league.

2. I am thinking of abandoning this save for restarting the challenge afresh once FM22 gets released. So, is it too short of time to complete this challenge by November, if not win, to at least have fun and win as many tournaments as possible?

3. Should the manager I start be aged 19? I see manager can be of any age in first post but every manager post I saw here had them start at age 19.

More the merrier @b4usiddhu2 I don’t see why you’ve left too short a time or wouldn’t be welcome in here. I still don’t think I’ll complete it yet either and I’ll definitely be beginning it again on fm22. Most fun I’ve had on a save in years and a really unique challenge and idea. I look forward to seeing your updates. I do believe manager has to be as young as allowed though as pretty much the only requirement. Need confirmation from @vikeologistthough.

1. You can do it on any version (from FM15 onwards I think). If and when you do achieve, please mention that it was FM20 for Hall of Fame purposes.

2. I think most people do take more than 3 months to complete the challenge, but people do play at wildly different speeds. I play FM a lot, like way too much, and it would probably take me a year to complete the challenge more or less. The difficulty of the challenge is really only in its length. It's a marathon, so the best idea is not to worry too much about completing it, and just have fun. Because when you're near the end of the challenge, it probably won't be fun.  There are people who achieve it in about 20 seasons, but most take longer or give up. So, just have fun, and remember that failure can be far more interesting than success; for those of us following your progress anyway.

(Sidenote @goonergez If you now lose the title to Man City this season, you will be an absolute legend. An Icarus type legend admittedly).

3. Your manager can be any age. There used to be a requirement that the manager was 19 or 20, but somebody forgot to do that when they started the challenge. I did an experiment, and as far as I can tell, age has absolutely no impact on getting jobs. It's entirely cosmetic. However, it's possible that age does have a (negative) impact once you're really old. I don't think it does. It's possible that age has an effect on the respect players give you, although again, I don't think so. So, start at any age you want.

Bear in mind that if you start at 19 or 20, it will be about 15 years until you can get a son. If you start at 35 you should get a son roughly once every 600 seasons.

Thanks @goonergez for the welcome. I will use this atleast as a test and warm up for FM22.

Ok, May be because I didn't add second divisions of the nations that I added, I am yet to find a club to manage even after applying to every offer that came along. However, Stumbled upon Zimbabwe as my first International team(first team as such :D) to manage. Not planning to stay here for long as they were just of the World Cup qualifiers, but might push for AFCON 2021 based on how my qualifiers go.

Hopefully, soon I find a club to manage as well.

Season 2021/22 Review - SuperSport United - South Africa

So thanks to real life it's taken me best part of 2 weeks to finish this season, it's been a struggle to find time but fingers crossed from here I should be able to get a lot more done now. Going to have to if I want to get far in the next 3 months really.

LeagueWe dominated this season, hit top spot early and never really looked back, first Orlando Pirates and then Cape Town kept with us but we pulled away with 8 games to go and after a 2-0 win away at Cape Town we had a 13 point lead with 6 games left and cruised home. Record wins, goals and points as well just to rub it in.

MTN 8 Cupthis was played early season and at the end I was very worried. The 5-5 with Sundowns was bad seeing as we were 4-1 up in the 90th minute! The two losses to Cape Town followed and it was bad. Team just took time to get used to my tactics was all

Nedbank Cup - Awful in this. No idea how we lost in the 2nd round. We had 33 shots to their 8, they hit us on the counter in extra time as we pushed for the win.

Telkom CupA semi final loss here as well in extra time to Orlando Pirates

CAF Confederations CupYet another semi final loss (feel like the OGS of this universe right now!) which was frustrating as aside from a 10 minute spell where Zamalek scored 3 goals we dominated them away from home and lost 3-1. We did beat them 3-2 at home but it wasn't enough

Transfersdidn't really do much, just brought in some first team squad players and a couple young players

Squada little older than I like so have started the process of lowering the age and targeting young players, made a little easier by winning the league

Key Players

Evans Rusike - 47 goals in 45 games, can't argue with that. 13 pens (he also missed 4 of them) so I don't expect this sort figure next season. I'd be open to selling at his age as well
Iqraam Rayners - played mainly from the right (also as a striker when rotating Rusike) and 21 goals and 13 assists from there are great figures. In the odd games that Rusike doesn't score then Rayners usually will
Kudakwashe Mahachi - The final part of our front 3, not as prolific but still hit double figures in both goals and assists

Career Progress

Season Club Competition Position	Notes & Achievements
2020/21 Cape Town Spurs	Championship 1st Promotion
2021/22 SuperSport United	Premiership 1st League Winners

Challenge Progress

1/10 top domestic – South Africa (SuperSport United 2022)
0/10 top domestic cups
0/5 club continental
0/1 club world championship

0/5 continental competitions
0/1 world tournaments

So yeah like I say, took way longer than I'd have liked this season but should have some more regular updates from me going forward now.

Yes, when the challenge started 7 years ago, it was just about possible to get a job at a top division club in China or S Africa, (not that taking those jobs was always a good idea as they were often in a total mess), but it's become gradually harder to get a first job, so yes, you aimed a bit high. Never mind.

I deliberately don't say at the start of the thread which leagues / divisions one can start off at. It would be kind of spoilerish. Honestly most people start off much lower than they need to, and thus waste time, so I commend your ambition.

It is S Africa and China where you're most likely to be able to get a job at the 2nd division down. You should eventually be able to get a first job there, though not necessarily every one that becomes vacant.

The again, having an international job makes it more difficult to get a club job, so if you get fed up with rejections, you might need to quit Zimbabwe.

Agreed, I just aimed high to see if I can get something in S.Africa or China in first division. Anyways, Zimbabwe is keeping me busy with friendlies until the lower divisions load in couple more months :)

Well, after a quick turn around of 4 losses from 4 games with Zimbabwe, (two of them in AFCON Qualifiers), dropping them from 126th to 131st in World Ranking and umpteen number of rejections in the Tier 1 leagues of the nations, I was simming along to Jan 1st 2020 hoping for the Chinese and Mexican Tier 2 leagues to load in and open up for jobs.

Suddenly, Uruguay had their Manager retired after 13 years and when I applied, they liked my profile (  ) and hired me as their new manager in a high stakes year for them where they will be competing in COPA AMERICA and also in World Cup Qualifiers. :D

Well not sure how I got this jackpot, Uruguay being a 5th ranked Nation in the World, great start to the WC qualifiers and with a stacked player pool for the internationals. Hope this goes fine and not affect my club career whenever it starts :)

I am not going to lie and about 9 games into the season I am living this season fully in the fear of this happening. It’s definitely something I can see happening and if it does it may be time for me to hang up my mousepad and just call it quits 😂😂😂

Ah damn. Makes it a real long season then 😂.

I'd forgotten the question. I've spent hardly any time in Brazil in this challenge for that reason. Once took over a club just before the Copa Lib final. Another time 7 matches into the season.  Most recently though I did stay at a Brazilian club for a season and a half. Don't remember anything about it though.

What a frustrating season this was, my main aim was to qualify for the Champions League and we done that comfortably. With around 15 games to go we were 13 points behind Liverpool and I had all but given up but some good form put us 3 points behind them with 2 games to go with one of the games against Liverpool and we had a better goal difference. Then steps up 19th placed Newcastle to FM us out of the title race and I decided to just rotate squad on final day against Liverpool. I really struggled tactically this season especially in the early part made a few to many knee jerk decisions and was constantly making too many changes which made the team struggle gaining any momentum early on. Three of my seven losses came against opposition in the bottom 3... In other news I was attempting to get an International job on my last update where I turned down England as there were better nations available and they all rejected me, it is a World Cup year and I want be as picky this time around when jobs become available.

So after the World Cup I got a good offer from Everton so joined them.

Near the end of August though I noticed a very interesting manager movement leading to a job where I am guaranteed silverware pretty much, so a couple of months after joining Everton I became manager of none other than PSG, whom even paid £20m to Everton to sign me!

Boca Juniors & Argentina 2032/33

Table | Squad | Transfers

Before we started at the second season at Boca we got a call from the Argentinian FA, who just lost in the quarter finals of the Copa América against Chile, so they needed a new coach and I was willing to do the double duty. In the Argentinian league we once again smashed it, albeit with 7 less points than last year, but another league title, but we stayed for the Continental cup obviously. Firstly I sold some players who wanted out, either because I had already signed a replacement, eyed a replacement or were older and needed to capitalise on transfer value for max profit. So we got Sarue from Rosario for an astonishing £10 Mil, but he is worth it because even in my Argentina report on him they rate him 5* potential, we got Berrutti for £7 Mil and is one of the best Argentinian defenders in the world right now, absolute bargain. Morales, a striker from Lanús came for £6.5 Mil, he is easily the most 'expensive' seeing this is a diamond in the rough, his finishing is too low for a striker so he is being retrained as a winger/playmaker, because the kid has  potential and maybe in the future a fixture in the NT, someone has to retrain the lad. Pastrana came in for the low price of £2.1 Mil as a favour to the chairman who loves Colombian import. He is almost the best signing of the season with 27 goals in all competitions and 15 assists, but that honor has to go to Fariña, who came in on a free. San Lorenzo wasn't big enough anymore and refused to resign, but Boca was just about enough for him.

Having already qualified for the second stage of the Copa Libertadores we we in for the most difficult part, we first drew  Cerro Porteño, which we won 5-0, after them Internacional (3-0) in the quarter final, in the semis we faced our ultimate rival River Plate and this was our toughest match yet, it went down to the wire with a penalty shootout. So we were in the finals against Corinthians:

P3oIicW.png

unW3dsH.png

So we've won another continental cup, that's number 3!

We also went on to win both Argentinian & South American Super Cups, but lost the national cup once again in the finals with the match going to penalties.

So now I'm already eyeing other jobs, was hoping to get Monterrey but the guy won't fire their coach, so I'm loading some European leagues.

On to the National team, we only played 8 matches and our first one started with a draw agains Uruguay, then 4 wins against Venezuela, Ecuador, Paraguay & Peru and then a loss to Brazil, 0-3, that one hurt honestly. Then 2 more wins against Chile & Colombia. The Chile one meant to me that the quarter final defeat was a fluke on Chile's part. 4 more matches to go in the group and only we and the monster Brazil have qualified.

Career Update | July 2020 | Uruguay

A busy year so far with both World cup qualifiers and Copa America games for the Uruguay National team. We were sitting at 2nd position in the World Cup Qualifiers League table when I took over with 3 clean sheet wins over Ecuador, Peru and Chile and a 1-2 loss to Brazil. What followed was a very bad start to my management with a 0-3 thrashing from Argentina and a 1-1 draw to Colombia. This took us down to 5th position just out of Qualifying spots. However, both those games helped me get used to the team, tactics and players. Muslera being the No.1 keeper and injured for those two games as well impacted the team performance.

 1cd821401980cebcaf9f1784bb7e7904.png

So, Uruguay went into the Copa America way below expectations. Fortunately we were drawn in an easier group with no Argentina or Brazil in our group. The campaign started with a comfortable 3-1 win over Bolivia, only to get drubbed by Australia and Colombia 1-3 and 1-4 score lines respectively. Next followed was a must win game against Paraguay and the players showed to get a 2-0 victory. With the qualification to Quarters more or less sure, the final group game was again a 1-2 loss to Chile scraping us to the knockouts barely at 4th position in the group.

f866bebb5ec63d81ad9770f5cae73c4c.png

Because of that, I do not have any expectation in the knockouts, However, we faced Peru in Quarterfinal, the 4th positioned team from Group A. The match went full time with 1-1, a scrappy affair with both the goals coming before 30th minute and then both sides defending the goal for the rest of the game. What followed was a fantastic penalty shootout with no outfield player missing their pens. Muslera shot his pen as well before saving the penalty from his counterpart. A monumental 11-10 Penalty shootout put us into the semifinals.

The semis was against Brazil who were on a unbeaten 13 match win streak. However, we went attacking and both the teams were completely attacking the whole game. With Godin, Gimenez and Muslera defending for the entire game fantastically we were able to stop Brazil from scoring with their 22 shots of which 9 were saved by Muslera. We had our share of shots as well with 13, even though Cavani's header was controversially ruled out for offside at 14th minute, we were able to manage a goal just before the HT from Stuani. That was enough for us to push through to finals against another powerhouse Argentina.

Argentina was too much for us, and ended up losing 2-5. The score line was an aberration considering three of the 5 goals came in the injury time after 90th minute.

I will take being runners up for the first tournament I am in. Planning to continue with Uruguay as of now until the World Cup 2022. Despite Luis Suarez retiring from National duty after the Copa America, the squad is looking so good especially with the youthful midfielders like Bentancur, Valverde, Nandez and Nico Lopez.

Club management is still looking far with no teams accepting my applications, will have to see to resign from Uruguay if this is the case in 6 months time.

I say that, and 2 days later was offered a job at Jomo Cosmos a newly promoted team to South African Premier Soccer League. Their manager for 26 years (alike Uruguay) also retired from coaching immediately after getting them promoted. Looking forward to my first club stint, albeit at least aiming to avoid relegation first season.

I'm sure this has been answered before, but which leagues do people usually load for a challenge like this? Does loading too many of them become an issue a few years into the save or do you guys keep adding/removing them as you go?

Thanks!

Unless you have a very powerful system, I wouldn't load too many leagues at the start. There really doesn't seem to be any problems with adding and removing leagues. I'd suggest deciding how you want the challenge to progress and only having 2 or 3 nations active at any point.

As for which specific leagues to load, that's a question that I choose not to answer myself, though obviously others can and do. If I said these are the divisions that one can / can't a first job in, it would take away some of the fun of finding out for yourself.

I would direct you to a post on this page where someone tried to start off too high and couldn't get a job, but on the other hand, you want to get as good a first job as possible. Aim fairly low, but you don't have to go for the lowest leagues in the entire game.

The first job is quite important, and it's not just a matter of the division. If you're offered a job by a club deep in relegation and financial doodoo and are going to end up being in the next division down in a few matches, is that extra rung up the ladder worth it?

Thanks for your answer!

One more question, how does one judge which jobs are realistic and which aren't? For example, I've done a test save and have landed a job at a 2* reputation club despite starting with no badges or experience, so clearly my reputation doesn't have to match the club. Is there a way to quickly judge whether I'm aiming too high?

Well, the quick way is that when you're unemployed you are told which jobs are realistic, although that's not completely accurate. Almost no first job is going to be realistic, because nobody would give such a person any job. Sometimes people doing the challenge don;t take jobs because they think they're unrealistically good jobs, and there seem to be clubs and nations more prone to taking flyers on inexperienced managers. It's not as simple as all 2 star clubs will give you a job, but no 2.5 star clubs.

I don't remember the star rep of the clubs you can get a job at. 2 stars is probably fine. Like, do you want the job? It doesn't matter if you start slightly too low. The thing that will really slow down your progress through the challenge is not winning.

Just win, baby.

@vikeologist

So what happens to this thread when FM 22 comes out. Does it still go and does it die a pretty quick death

Until this year I didn't do a new thread for each iteration. (The Silver Age Thread lasted for 5 years). There's no actual reason to start new threads because there's no list of eligible clubs or reputations that changes each year. Starting a new thread for FM22 would be pointless,

so start a new thread I will, and I'll tell people not to post in this thread anymore, but they still will.

But one day the game will change. When women's' football is introduced, I want to incorporate it into the challenge, but I won't be able to include all the trophies. It's already nearly on the limit of the amount of trophies one can set for a challenge. So there might have to be a separate Ultimate Women's Football Manager Challenge. However, my preliminary idea is that you can gain the trophies in either men's or women's football. I'm not trying to open up a discussion. There's no point because it's years away and we don't know how the 2 sides will operate alongside each other.

Anyway, my point is that until then, this challenge probably won't change, but I'll still senselessly do a new thread each year in a pointless repackaging exercise.

As people can post in this challenge on their saves of any version since FM15, those of you who haven't yet finished the challenge can just start posting in the new thread, and your new updates will be more likely to be read by lots of people for a while.

Jomo Cosmos F.C. - Wikipedia                image.png.379b293bb4cdfee4a9f1b7949a2d317a.png

Mid Season Update | Jan 2021 | Jomo Cosmos F.C. | Uruguay

Wonderful start to the season with Jomo Cosmos, currently sitting in 3rd position at the mid way of the season with 16 games played. Even though the season preview has predicted us to finish 10th in the table, the board expectation was only to avoid relegation. So, with that mind, I had raided the fellow league team Bidvest Wits for 3 first team players, a versatile defender (mostly plays as RB) that can play anywhere in the defense and midfield, a Central Defender, a Attacking CAM and a Striker albeit 18yr old is a star forward. These 4, combined with another free transfer for a Center Back has strengthened the team very effectively. In fact, the defense combining these transfers with an existing wonderful Goal Keeper has made the team best defense in the league so far, with 9 clean sheets and only 11 goals conceded. There is no lack in creativity up front either with everyone pitching in with goals.

d6f242a31ac8944b1cb3a1995f9333b2.png

The SA KO Cup was a success as well with reaching Quarterfinal on the first time of asking and it met the board's expectation. However, the only issue is with the payroll and trasnfer budget. Have spent almost everything for those transfers, so not hopeful if I will be granted something for next season if I finish way ahead of their expectation.

The Uruguay's World Cup Qualifiers are going good with winning 3 games and losing 3 games after the Copa America tournament. The team is placed 3rd currently in the table with 6 games to go.

Results: Premier League ~ Champions League ~ Domestic Cups

We comfortably went on to secure the Premier League at our second attempt we were 9/12 points clear for the majority of the second half of the season. I really like the team we've built here and I think they could go on to dominate for a while. As for the domestic cups we were very poor losing to Southampton and Grimsby respectively. I'm really annoyed at those results and I will look to take the domestic cups more seriously next season now the league is out of the way for this challenge.

As for the Champions League after turning round a first leg defeat against Real Madrid I was starting to feel confident, unfortunately we lost in the next round on penalties which is slightly frustrating as we dominated the first leg against Juventus, they somehow cam away with a draw. I'm hopeful we will avoid games like that in the latter stages next season so we can go all the way and win it. If I win a domestic cup next season and not the Champions League I may well look to move on as there are other decent teams in Europe I can win the Champions League with.

As for my team as mentioned I won't be making to many changes next season I'm very happy with this squad there are a few players I will look to move on in Mount and Wright. Other than that maybe a couple of loan deals as I have 3 really good left wingers (one is currently on loan at Real Madrid getting plenty of game time), and I have a couple of centre midfielders out as well who I may continue loaning out.

Manchester United: 2076/77 Review

If I’ve referred to previous seasons as a disappointment then this one purely takes the biscuit. I’ve actually never been as humiliated on this game as I am right now.

Table.png.fb099fe99785f34ec2cd28e9f77b7810.png

The lack of a proven goal scorer ends up costing us as a potentially superb season ends up with us falling short. All the jokes about my City side beating my United one proves true as we are pipped right at the end to finish second. I’ve never been so humiliated in my life and am left pondering as to even continue with this challenge. United have dominated football until I’ve got my hands on them. A truly shocking campaign ended with us pipped into second after the penultimate round of games.

On top of that we lost out in both FA cup and Champions League Quarter finals as well as a League Cup semi. A humiliating season without a trophy and proven my ineptitude as a manager. I am truly heartbroken and left pondering as to even continue with this challenge. I’m utterly embarrassed right now. Jokes were made but they’ve ended up proving as a true. I have turned dominant title winners into a laughing stock.

@Crowy Great going, getting English Premier league this early 👏🏻 Next season could be for the cups and then to better European countries for UCL probably.

@goonergez Oh wow that’s unfortunate. Hopefully the ManUtd team works next season well to beat your City team.

@goonergezNo need to feel humiliated. You're not the first person to build a fantastic team, but then leave too soon and have someone else reap the reward.

But, if this setback is making you unhappy, then you need to look after yourself.  I can't myself ever quite bring myself to quit the game, but every now and then I need to do a different challenge for a season or two.

When the fun stops, stop. At least for a bit.

League - Season Review 1 | Season Review 2 - won easily as expected

French Cup - Fixtures - this was straightforward too as we lifted the cup

Champions League - Fixtures | Table - easily won our group.  Athletic Bilbao were our knockout opponents, a narrow loss in Basque country was followed by a big win at home.  We thrashed Juventus at home so despite losing 2-0 away in the 2nd leg we got through to the semis.    We lost 3-1 away at Anfield in the semis first leg but a great win at home saw us into the final to play Man City.  A classic game unfortunately didn't end in our favour as City won 4-3.

Finances - obviously good

Transfers - I mainly bought squad players really

Squad

Key players

Ernesto Pechetto - excellent American left winger

Phillip Von Der Weth - prolific German striker, Man City are after him

Pablo Esono Eyang - signed just before I arrived, a great central midfielder

Youssoufa Moukoko - fantastic striker

Kai Havertz - still great

England
Season 30/31

Nations League - Fixtures 1 | Fixtures 2 | Table - won our group easily.  In the semi final we just beat Spain with a late Bellingham goal.  In the final we thrashed Netherlands 6-1 thanks to a great Mason Greenwood performance.

We are Euro 2032 hosts so no qualifying games.

Future - I resigned from PSG after losing the CL final as I still need to complete England, Spain and Italy.
