Tbh USA are playing really well. Good shape and hard to play round or through, but they are as being as patient as we are and as soon as there's an opportunity to overload the chase down that pass to try and counter. Not sure whether we should bore this out and be even more cautious and nick something in the second half or pick up the tempo ourselves and get forward and press when they have the ball.

I think the game plan is to play it around until the Americans press and then play through. Except the Americans aren’t pressing as high as we were expecting and we’ve been unable or incapable to change approach on the fly

it just feels, genuinely, like Southgate is hoping we get to 0-0 At half time

Southgate must have got a nosebleed from scoring 6 against Iran.

More like conceding 2 goals to Iran has made him scared of fielding only four defenders against any decent team.

Idk what's going on with Rice, but this is a texbook example of an overhyped player so far.

His passing seems to be on a level of stereotypical defensive midfielder from the 90s.

Doesn't show for the ball enough, must be painful for Stones going from Rodri to this.

Rice has all the attributes. He just needs a better coach than David Moyes to teach him how to play and position in a passing team.

Get the impression the scouting report for England was something like 'US will be blowing after 65 mins, wait it out, make sure they're not winning by then, then take the chances that come'.

Because that's kind of how they're playing. If they can go 1-0 up then great, but if not then just make sure US don't have a lead to defend in the last third of the game

Think that flatters us. We're not playing boring possession football or sitting deep and waiting for them to give us the ball back, we're getting caught in possession and with runs in behind. Think our scout report said "these guys couldn't even beat Wales" and Gareth didn't do the warn against complacency team talk. But at this stage, we look like we should be making substitutions to make sure we eke out the 1-0

To be fair to the US, they've actually been pretty good rather than relying on us to be horribly bad.

No need to panic just yet. Would bring on a foden or a Grealish to come get the ball a bit deeper to try and make it easier to break through their shape

This is the problem. Even Bellingham is playing in this weird “wide number 10” type role on the other side Mount is doing the same. We seem to have a back 5 and a front 5, and it’s making us so easy to play through and so hard to play out

Shocking first half from us. Too negative, happy to waste time passing it around the back. Too scared to play into midfield.

Playing right into their hands. They'll be loving it. Should even be ahead if not for a shocking miss from McKennie.

Get Sterling and Mount off for Rashford and Foden. Sterling has been the worst player on the pitch and Mount has yet again done nothing good for England.

Disappointed to have nothing to show from that. Aside from a brain gone moment to concede a pen, defense has held up better than expected through 1.5 matches. Midfield has been fantastic, again, and it's not against Wales this time. WRU striker?

I'm sure @Rob1981 knows the maths better than I, but it's very difficult for us not to qualify if we draw tonight. Think we'd have to lose to Wales 3-0 or something.

We'd be fine but doesn't say much for us and based off current play we might struggle getting a point.
