OBOS-ligaen

A gentle reminder of expectations from my Board. Thank you Mr Pettersen.

KFUM-Kameratene Oslo finished 9th in OBOS-ligaen last season with 38 points from 30 matches. This season, the bookmakers predict them to finish 9th again.

They are semi-professional but, we know, whilst we could have had a more difficult start to the season, this won't be an easy game.

Hødd  v KFUM-Kameratene Oslo

OBOS-ligaen - Post-Match Press Conference

--

01_KFUM-Oslo_14.png.92fcc2cf9df60eb3569b7f1878c8ec0e.png

We're absolutely delighted to have kicked off our league campaign with a win. After our successful pre-season, we were very confident but competitive OBOS-ligaen matches are completely different to pre-season games.

We were expecting a difficult game and that's exactly what we got. Overall, I don't think there was too much between us and KFUM-Kameratene Oslo so we're thrilled to have come out on top.

I thought we started brightly then, after about 20  minutes they gained a foothold and started to take control, but we finished the half stronger and, I thought, took a deserved lead when Stian Nygard scored in first-half added on time.

The second-half was more cagey and Markus Karlsbakk came on as sub and doubled our lead on 70 minutes with a long-range thunderbolt.

From there, we should have seen the game out but Niko Hämäläinen and Brage Kvithyld got in each others way on the edge of our penalty area to gift KFUM-Kameratene Oslo a goal on 71 minutes.

We got nervy after that and KFUM-Kameratene Oslo were level four minutes later.

Last season, I think, our heads would've dropped and we'd have ended up losing but the players showed tremendous resilience, kept going, and Markus Karlsbakk won it for us, scoring direct from a free-kick.

Kristiansund (1st) v Hødd  (3rd)

OBOS-ligaen

--

02_Kristiansund_02_Niyukuri_press.png.f2612d0a3159672511f80dddd8cc8640.png

We visited Kristiansund Stadion in pre-season and won 5-3, but we're not reading anything into that crazy high-scoring game.

This one, this OBOS-ligaen clash, will be completely different.

I'm sure Kristiansund, like us, will be looking to keep things a lot tighter and will play in a far less cavalier way.

It will be good to catch-up with Claus Niyukuri and see how he's getting on after his move to Kristiansund in the transfer window. I'll wish him all the best for the season, just not when he plays against us.

After coming on as a sub and scoring a brace against KFUM-Kameratene Oslo, Markus Karlsbakk has earnt the chance to start today. Isak Gabriel Skotheim makes way for Markus.

Our other change is our captain Marius Alm coming in at centre-back in place of Adrian Hansen.

What an exciting game that must've been... if you were a neutral that is.

We looked nervous at the start and were a goal down before we knew it.

But I thought we grew into the game and thoroughly deserved Abel Stensrud's equaliser.

The second-half was very even I thought.

We thought we'd taken the lead around the hour mark (I still think we did to be honest), Andreas Dybevik rolled a free-kick into the D of their penalty area where Runar Hauge hit a superb shot, which Abel Stensrud deflected past the goalkeeper and into the net. The officials ruled the goal out for handball but I'm not convinced it was.

We felt aggrieved then when Kristiansund took the lead on 66 minutes.

We went more Positive then, as we had to, and it was a great relief when Dion Krasniqi did brilliantly down the right, cut inside into the penalty area, and scored our equaliser from a tight angle.

Unbeaten after two matches. I'll take that.

Hødd (6th) v Grorud (16th)

OBOS-ligaen

--

03_Gorud_01.png.64e8be948dd68d68fb0ee988dd5fe5d2.png

We entertain Grorud at Høddvoll today.

Grorud finished 13th in OBOS-ligaen last season and are currently 16th after losing their opening two matches.

We'll need to make sure we give them the same respect we would any opponent and not let complacency creep in.

After his performance as a sub against Kristiansud, scoring our late equaliser, Dion Krasniqi comes in for Teodor Haltvik today.

This was just one of those games. We created lots of chances, forced their goalkeeper to make a number of good saves, but we just couldn't score.

We started poorly and kept giving the ball away. That's what led to their first goal.

In the second-half we were a lot better, we went more Positive, and created a string of chances but Grorud had a 1-0 lead to defend and they defended very well.

Grorud's second goal came on the counter-attack as we pushed for an equaliser.

Runar Hauge hit the post late on with a header but that was the closest we got.

Levanger (10th) v Hødd (9th)

OBOS-ligaen

--

04_Levanger_01.png.4e33b640062f97aed17ef94e24822644.png

Levanger are one point behind us having started their  campaign with one win and two defeats

Last season, Levanger finished 14th with 32 points from 30 matches. They then defeated Lysekloster on penalties in the OBOS-ligaen/PostNord-ligaen Playoff Final.

This is an important match for us, a good result and we'll have made a solid start to our OBOS-ligaen season but a poor result will represent a disappointing start.

Two changes today, Adrian Hansen and Isak Gabriel Skotheim come in for Marius Alm and Andreas Dybevik.

Rasmus Eggen Vinge is on the bench after recovering from sprained ankle ligaments with Jørgen Fjeldskår very unfortunate to miss out.

--

04_Levanger_05.png.3b85f042a2c8ce217bcded7338601d9c.png

I thought the players were magnificent today, we controlled possession, created more chances than Levanger, and thoroughly deserved the win.

Things did get a bit nervy as the second-half wore on, but only because we didn't get a second goal.

It wasn't for the want of trying though, Adrian Hansen hit the bar with a header and Martin Bergum hit the post. After the break Marius Alm scored from a corner, only for the referee to disallow it and I have no idea why. Marius Alm also hit the bar with a header.

We were hanging on a bit at the end, but we defended resolutely and Goran Karacic gave us confidence by commanding his area and catching or punching clear almost every Levanger cross into the box.

Raufoss (9th) v Hødd (6th)

OBOS-ligaen

--

05_Raufoss_01.png.0a43ef26b7e068cc7a6997cdff57afbd.png

Raufoss are currently 9th in OBOS-ligaen with one win, two draws and a defeat.

Last season they finished 8th with 43 points from 30 matches.

We are two points better off than Raufoss but we know it will be a difficult game at NAMMO Stadion.

05_Raufoss_08.thumb.png.1dedde56b0ca24db86dbdf5d3b0e86ae.png

This was a very tight game, as we expected, with few chances.

The first-half was scrappy. Neither team could keep the ball for long and kept giving it away. Raufoss had the better of it, if I'm honest, and we were grateful to our goalkeeper Goran Karacic for keeping us in it.

After the break we looked more like ourselves and we started to control  possession by retaining the ball better.

Abel Stensrud was tripped in the penalty area, picked himself up, and sent the goalkeeper the wrong way to break the deadlock from the penalty spot.

After that, we managed the game out well, defending resolutely and Raufoss never looked like equalising.

Yes, nine straight in pre-season (I think) and three out of five in OBOS-ligaen.

"Releasing Players"

--

There were a number of players that I thought were surplus to requirements. I moved them into the 2nd Team Squad and we tried to sell them in the transfer window. Some moved on, some didn't.

So I decided to bite the bullet and release them and get them off the salary bill.

I half-expected the Board to block some, or all of the player releases but they didn't.

Hødd (5th) v Jerv (1st)

OBOS-ligaen

--

Jerv, who finished 5th last season with 46 points from 30 mataches, have got off to a flyer this season and top OBOS-ligaen with four wins and one defeat from their opening five matches.

This is going to be a real test for us.

Just the one change today.

Andreas Dybevik comes in for Isak Gabriel Skotheim but I've switched Andreas and Martin Bergum around in central midfield.

I'm disappointed with the defeat, of course I am, not so much the defeat itself because Jerv are a very good team but the manner of the defeat.

Jerv's first goal was avoidable. We lost possession in the middle of our half when Martin Bergum stood waiting for Niko Hämäläinen's pass to reach him, allowing a Jerv player time to react and nip in and intercept the ball. Seconds later, Jerv broke the deadlock.

But we did brilliantly to get back into the game and goals from Marius Alm and Stian Nygard gave us a 2-1 lead. It was an even game, but we were giving as good as we got. They equalised with a good goal, fair play to Jerv.

Then a moment of madness. Our captain, Marius Alm, sees red and is sent off for elbowing an opponent.

We go defensive, Goran Karacic is magnificent in our goal, but we couldn't hold out and Jerv won it late. Very late which is a tough one to take as I thought we deserved at least a point. Would we have got the draw with 11 players on the pitch? We'll never know the answer to that.

Not much to say really, a very tight game where the defences had the upper hand.

Neither Arendal nor us did enough to win it and a draw was a fair result.

The Aalesund-Hødd Derby is a big one for our fans, and for us, and I can assure the Hødd supporters we'll be doing everything we can to try and win this one at the Høddvoll for them.

There were over 1,300 Hødd supporters in a Høddvoll crowd of 1,928 today and I want to thank them from the bottom of my heart because the atmosphere was like nothing I've ever experienced before.

We wanted to win for our fans, to give them the bragging rights in the Aalesund-Hødd Derby, but to win so comprehensively was beyond my wildest dreams.

Abel Stensrud will take the plaudits, deservedly so, for his brace but I thought every Hødd player was magnificent today. In a fierce local derby, Aalesund didn't have a single attempt on target. That's something special and a credit to the whole team.

Football can be cruel at times and you don't always get what you deserve.

I thought we were the better team today, we had more possession, we created more chances than HamKam did, but we weren't clinical enough in front of goal.

That said, when Abel Stensrud gave us the lead on 86 minutes, stabbing home from two yards out in a crowded six-yard box, we should've been able to see the game out from there.

But we didn't.

They equalised.

And after a goalless extra-time, with both sets of players looking leggy, it went down to the lottery of penalties.

I don't blame Dion Krasniqi or Martin Bergum for missing. They were brave enough to step forward to take a spot-kick and I'd have no hesitation in  asking either of them to do so again.

We have a few players looking jaded after Wednesday night's 120 minutes plus a penalty shoot-out so we'll be making some changes today.

Orri Sveinn Stefánsson (for Adrian Hansen), Halvor Rødølen Opsahl (for Brage Kvithyld), Martin Bergum (for Eduards Emsis), Isak Gabriel Skotheim (for Markus Karlsbakk) and Stian Nygard (for Runar Hauge).

05_Skeid_08.thumb.png.09938ebdea73bb3c1676366b41821c92.png

This was a game which, being fair, we probably should've lost as Skeid created a hatful of chances, but we dug-in, hung-in there, and scored a late equaliser through Teodor Haltvik.

We possibly could've won it as well as Runar Hauge hit the post at 1-1 but that would've been harsh on Skeid.

In hindsight, maybe I made too many changes. I dunno.

We'll take the draw, accept the point, and move on.

Sandnes Ulf are a very good team and I can see why they've gone top of OBOS-ligaen.

But I thought we gave them a good run for their money.

In a game of few chances there wasn't much between us and them, the difference was Sandnes Ulf made our goalkeeper work and got one past him whereas we couldn't get our attempts, at least as many as them, on target. That was the difference.

Soras injured

RELEASE_Soras1.png.e3205536d9cf9dd37a57ced49a8ddabf.png

Tore Andre Soras tore his knee ligaments, an injury that will keep him out of action for at least four months.

My Backroom Staff informed me that Tore Andre was injury prone and had an injury release clause is his contract.

I felt really bad about activating that clause but, in the best interests of IL Hødd, I decided to release Tore Andre Soras without any compensation payment.

This feels like a smash 'n' grab raid but we'll take it.

For half an hour we couldn't get anywhere near HamKam and it was only thanks to some brave, resolute defending that we were only a goal down.

We changed to a Positive mentality and that allowed us to get a bit of a foothold in the game.

Our second-half equaliser was an own goal after Martin Bergum's hard low shot across goal was turned into the net by a HamKam defender.

It was then like the Alamo as HamKam threw everything at us. We defended superbly, winning headers, making tackles, throwing ourselves in front of shots.

And then... and then... and then... on 90+4 minutes, we cleared a corner out to the right wing where Runar Hauge got to the ball first, he ran two thirds the length of the pitch, cut into the penalty area, completely wrong-footed a defender, and smashed a shot across the goalkeeper into the far corner.  Our entire Backroom Staff and players were out of the dug out celebrating whilst I desperately tried to get instructions out to the players.

We got everybody back, we parked the bus, we defended for what seemed like an eternity (but was probably two or three minutes) and we held on and we won.

We won!

I think I've lost my voice, my throat is so dry.

It was only a few weeks ago that I was amongst the many decrying the ridiculous number of cricket scores we'd experience in FM24. They seem to have gone now; most of my games,  like yours are very tight, low-scoring dramas, with the points going either way. It makes for constant jeopardy and a far more satisfying narrative to follow.

I'm using the vanilla Norwegian Nation out of the box Nation / Leagues which are:

  • Tier 1 - Eliteserien
  • Tier 2 - OBOS-ligaen
  • Tier 3 - PostNord-ligaen
  • Tier 4 - Norsk Tipping-ligaen

For some reason, Norsk Tipping-ligaen is read only (not playable) in the default version so (with @XaW's help) I used the pre-game editor to make Tier 4 playable and that's the only change I've made. It was surprisingly easy, thanks to XaW's clear instructions and patience with my questions. If I can do it, anybody can.

HamKam (Hamarkameratene) and my team Hødd are both in OBOS-ligaen (Tier 2) this season.

Yes, in previous versions of FM I've used custom databases and, although they are brilliant, I ended up coming unstuck with them after a few seasons because there were things going on that I wasn't happy with and that ruined the immersiveness of my save for me.

After making Norsk Tipping-ligaen (Tier 4) playable, I did holiday through six seasons just to make sure everything worked as it should... which it did.

I agree, @phnompenhandy it certainly feels more real and adds more jeopardy. I said to @warlock on here yesterday that I don't know which is worse fear wise, going into the last 15-20 minutes at 0-0 or holding a 1-0 lead.

After last season (2025), when I managed only one win in 12 matches with Loddefjord and no wins at all with Hødd in the last four matches of the season following my appointment, I'm just grateful to be managing a competitive team again.

I said to my friend @I have nothing to say last night (off Forum) that this season (2026) is feeling very good right now.

Hødd (5th) v Kongsvinger (12th)

Kongsvinger may be 12th, but they have a caretaker manager in Trond Amundsen and will be a dangerous wild card.

You never know how a team who's manager has just been sacked will react and, likewise, with an internally promoted caretaker manager, you don't know if he will continue the same way that hasn't been working too well or make small or radical changes.

It all makes for a fascinating game.

My intention, after his sending off recently, was to make my captain Marius Alm sit it out on the bench for a few matches after serving his suspension, but he had to play last time out due to Brage Kvithyld's tight thigh.

Brage is back today, Marius drops to the bench, with a very unfortunate Orri Sveinn Stefánsson missing out.

We shot ourselves in the foot today by making too many individual errors and that's why we lost.

Both of Kongsvinger's first-half goals came from our attacks, we gave the ball away cheaply in their half, they counter-attacked and scored. We weren't even going for it, we were playing with a Balanced mentality.

We changed to more of a Positive mentality and Rasmus Eggen Vinge pulled a goal back for us and, before that, Abel Stensrud had a perfectly good goal in my opinion disallowed. I have no idea why.

At half-time, 1-2 down but dominating the game, we felt confident of overturning the deficit.

But we failed to defend a corner properly and it was 1-3.

We then did go for it, playing two strikers, and we bombarded their goal. Dion Krasniqi scored a brilliant individual goal for 2-3 but their goalkeeper, August Strömberg, was awesome and he kept us out almost single-handedly.

We'd given ourselves a mountain to climb and we couldn't do it.

A Question - not sure if any of you have any ideas?

Question_Aleksander1.thumb.png.337463f407848e5714fca42cd7d0013d.png

Aleksander Ørstavik isn't in my First Team squad (he's in the U19 squad), and he isn't registered, so why has he started showing up in the Team News as "unavailable for selection"?

Question_Aleksander2.png.2258847304006c44e15dc38ed7542dad.png

It's only a minor thing, but it's bugging me.

@XaW @I have nothing to say (or anybody), any idea why Odds Ballklubb's nickname is Oddrane?

And weren't they called Odd Grenland some time back as well? I have a scarf from 2001 (that was given to me as a gift) with "Odd Grenland UEFA Cup 2001" on it.

Odds_BK.thumb.png.15e743ba365e6655ce0ffc592728660d.png

Had a look around as I'm not sure why they call themselves that, but as far as I can gather is a bit based on the local dialect with the suffix "-rane" being used for a group of people connected to the same thing. I guess you can kinda see it similar to the "-ians" ending in English, like Mancunians, Liverpudlians as a few examples from football I can remember from the top of my head. And yes, the club was called Odd Grenland before, and that alludes to the Grenland area around Skien where the club is located.

Brage Kvithyld misses out with a touch of food poisoning so our captain Marius Alm gets a start and Orri Sveinn Stefánsson is back on the bench.

That's the only change in personnel but I've asked Rasmus Eggen Vinge and Stian Nygard to switch wings.

I had my eye on Ole Erik Midtskogen in the transfer window as he was a free agent. We offered him a deal to come to Høddvoll but he chose Start over us. It's just our luck that he bags a brace against us.

This was another exciting game for the neutral that could've gone either way.

I'm going to claim football genius for our first goal. Before the match I asked our wingers Rasmus Eggen Vinge and Stian Nygard to switch wings and, so, Stian crosses from the left wing and Rasmus heads home at the far post.

We then took the lead from a corner with Marius Alm heading in at the far post to lead 2-1 at the break.

Eduards Emsis has been in my ear all week about not getting enough playing time so, with Andreas Dybevik looking a bit fatigued, I brought Eduards on and the first thing he does is trip a Start player in our box to concede a penalty.

The final few minutes were end-to-end and both goalkeepers did well to keep the scores level.

Five goals. A clean sheet. It doesn't get much better than that. I hope the crowd of 749 inside Høddvoll enjoyed that.

Our first goal was something special. Rasmus Eggen Vinge sent over a corner to the far post, it sailed over everyone only for Marius Alm to get the ball back inside six-yard box with an overhead kick, and Markus Karlsbakk swept it into the net.

Adrian Hansen doubled our lead, heading home a Rasmus Eggen Vinge corner from the middle of the six-yard box.

Our third came when Abel Stensrud ran into the penalty area, Andreas Dybevik found him with a slide-rule pass, and Abel's first time shot flew past the goalkeeper.

Adrian Hansen scored his second goal of the game, collecting a clearance on the edge of the penalty area, dribbling inside the box and firing hard past the goalkeeper.

With 90 minutes on the clock, Rasmus Eggen Vinge scored the goal his overall performance deserved, playing a one-two with Eduards Emsis to take him into the penalty area to shoot across the goalkeeper and into the corner of the net.

"If you're that unhappy we'll see if we can loan you out"

Two players have come to see me unhappy about their lack of playing time.

I've agreed to try and loan them out but, as they're both first team players who can do a job for us (if needed) I'm looking for 50% Playing wages and 100% Unused wage so I'll be surprised if anybody comes in for them.

Nordstrand (14th) v Hødd (5th)

OBOS-ligaen

After our 5-0 victory over Fredrikstad, I felt I couldn't make any changes. They've all earned the right to wear the shirt again.

01_Nordstrand_04.png.667a7341fe63d7eba4050f3e9613946e.png

The one change I have made is on the bench. Our second best striker, according to my Backroom Staff any way, Alexander Ammitzboll hasn't scored in his last eight appearances. I've been as supportive as I can, but I've decided to make him available for tomorrow's Hødd II match and hopefully he'll remember how to score goals.

That's allowed me to put Sivert Westerlund on the bench. Sivert's been unlucky, I signed him in January but because of the form of Niko Hämäläinen at left-back, and the versatility of Jørgen Fjeldskår to play many positions, Sivert hasn't even been in the matchday squad much, let alone get playing time.

Hopefully, I can involve him today and then get him a few starts over the coming weeks. Sivert is a squad player but I need to help him feel part of the squad which I don't think he does at the moment.

I don't know if there's an equivalent saying to "After the Lord Mayor's show" in Norwegian, @XaW, but after the 5-0 demolition of Fredrikstad last time out this game started very much like after the Lord Mayor's show.

Nordstrand were all over us and we couldn't get out of our own half for the first 20 minutes. Goran Karacic was a hero in our goal, commanding his area and producing save after save.

Then, with our first attack of the match, Markus Karlsbakk arrived late in the penalty area to round off a wonderful passing move by smashing the ball into the roof of the net.

Five minutes later, Markus Karlsbakk scored direct from a free-kick. Two shots, two goals.

Martin Bergum curled a shot into the net from just outside the penalty area on the stroke of half-time and it was 3-0. And, yes, three shots, three goals.

After the break, we controlled the game and Abel Stensrud made it four with around 20 minutes to go.

01_Nordstrand_11.png.06ac0ba67df3835502444e910a8ed887.png

When I signed Sivert Westerlund in January as our back-up left-back, I didn't think we'd be 15 matches in before he made his debut. I thought he did ok.

01_Nordstrand_12.thumb.png.b41f9ab823448063231f2a0238553529.png

We've reached the halfway stage of the OBOS-ligaen season and I'm delighted with how things have gone so far.

We're 3rd. I have a nose bleed.

But it doesn't matter where you are in July, it's where you finish in November that really counts.

I had to look up what it meant, as I hadn't heard that proverb before! :p

But if I get it that it mans to struggle after a fantastic display, the closest I can think of is "Hoppe etter Wirkola". It means that you can never preform as well as the one before, and it literally means "Jumping after Wirkola", and that again refers to the ski jumper Bjørn Wirkola who was so good than no one could match him, so by being the next after him, you would always look extremely bad! Best one I could think of off the top of my head, anyway.
