Absolutely baffling and potentially reputation ruining that he's gone against all that to just pick all the best players instead, ignoring the extremely baffling decisions like no left backs. Everyone seems chippy, no cohesion.

Southgate has had an utter nightmare

You guys look like us against Georgia.

In the groups it was pretty bad, but at least you were defending well. Today even the defending has been rubbish.

No national side in world football plays their best 11 players at the same time, you need balance, it's like Southgate went against what worked previously and its backfiring spectacularly

Just as a reminder. This is a team 40 places below us in the ranking.

And we're playing like a team 40 places below Slovakia.

We're playing like Luxembourg.

It's still Southgate's job to organise the individuals though. Let's not pretend we need to shove somebody not as good in there just for cohesion. He's picking this side. He's deciding not to make any changes apart from tinkering around the edges when we've looked bollocks all the way through. It's on him.

I just want us not to be ****. If we lose playing well, so be it. But this is just ****ing horrific

Losing in your own style is better than losing by betraying yourself - Cruyff (indirect quote)

In saying this, he clearly didn't see Southgate's style :DAlthough at WC18 England seemed quite aggressive in attack, or am I confusing something?

Disagree, they are pretty useful these days

I was saying it pre-tournament but Dixon is right. Every attacking player on the pitch is a ball-to-feet player and it’s absolutely o surprise that it doesn’t work.

For those who saw Gerrard earlier in his career, how does Bellingham compare in terms of style of play?

It kind of seems like he wants to do everything on his own at times and when he's having a bad day, it can look really bad.

Is there a reason Bellingham isn’t coming for the ball at all when Rice has it? Why can’t the three mids get a little closer together?

It is, and literally nobody, including Southgate's most passionate defenders, have argued this tournament has gone well or he's done a good job this time round.

What’s the headline in the morning going to be? “The wally in the… quite sharp looking t-shirt”

Also @Rob1981, please can you just text Gareth and say we need to shoot low and to the keeper’s right? I’ve watched this keeper every week for the last 6 months and it’s a guaranteed goal.

I’d settle for a shot atm, like.

Whenever he moves into space nobody is looking for him either, they are all moaning at each other

Tbf he's started coming deep for it after we conceded. Should probably have started a couple of games ago though

This seems quite a simplistic explanation really. He's picked 8 of the 11 that played so well against France. I think Bellingham is a different player for sure, Shaw is a loss, but there's more to it

It's amazing how we're not shooting :D Like, the players must know Dubravka is ****?

He isn’t putting himself anywhere that either mid can pass to him.

It says a lot that this game has contained some of our most cohesive looking attacks as well :D Now Slovakia are more than happy to just sit and defend as we will struggle massively to create anything. Double up on Saka and they're sorted .

More refined but far less dynamic.

Similar in that they sometimes try too hard to do it themselves. I remember Gerrard fizzing in passes unnecessarily hard for England and the receiving players were like wtf :D

They look absolutely clueless on the bench. I've no idea what to expect at halftime. Probably nothing.

I've never seen Southgate look different, it's always the same body language.

It's been our best attacking perfomance by a mile :D
