  1. So I'm now 3 games into the season of my Villarreal save. My usual saves are taking small or sleeping giants type foreign teams and having a longish term save with them, my current save is Vitoria Setubal in Portugal. Decided I wanted a bigger club that's in the top 5 league with European football and a little cash, so I opted for Villarreal

Club Vision - Looks to be a challenging first season

    image.thumb.png.7e592ef005f844c6e94c8a438928efa1.png

My 1st Window transfers - I take control of scouting but will only sign players recommended by my scouts

Outs - Had too many left backs, Bacca was on the decline and Rabba would never be good enough, Mori left as I wanted to bring in a young talent.

Bacca £1M to Al-Duhali, Rabba £1M to Alaves, Jaume Costa £2.2M Real Betis, Fuenes Mori £4M (£5M) Dynamo Moscow, Alberto Moreno - Loan with a future fee £8M

    Ins - Anel Ahmedhodzic - £4.8M

    image.thumb.png.569a9b583eb6971045a23203401aaacc.png

Kaio Jorge - An exciting talent from South America - £8.5M up front a further £2.5M on installments

    image.thumb.png.13a7869a198274e03d372466744775ca.png

Tactic - I tend to use the default tactics as a base and tweak from there...I steer clear of plug and play tactics

    image.thumb.png.03607f0cb824f3f451a23239a2e6e971.png

Schedule - Lost Gaspar to a long term injury in pre-season, started off the Laliga campaign OK but a bad defeat at home to Granada where we dominated and missed a penalty but just couldn't put the ball in the net. We also went 2-0 down to Elche in 10 minutes before settling in to the game....Alcacer is having a great start to the season

  2. Finally got round to starting my Charlton save. I'm in control of pretty much everything except the scouting (can't sign anyone unless recommended to me by scouts) and staff (hiring, firing, contracts).

Playing a positive high pressing 4-2-3-1

Managed to persuade the board to get a senior affiliate, ended up with Liverpool

First the transfers out, given the number of bodies that can play in the middle of the park in the Charlton squad and with interest from the start in Forster-Caskey I decided to let him go to Doncaster for a fee £200K rising to £250K with that £50K an installment in 12 months, this also presents the highly rated Albie Morgan with an opportunity for more first team minutes. Next to go was Deji Oshilaja to MK Dons for £170K rising to £215K depending on appearances, a first teamer but he was in the final year of his contract, plus the free agent I brought in was better all around. I then let Darren Pratley move on to Nashville for £20K, He was the highest earner at the club and 35, so freeing up his wages was important. A number of Youth were also loaned out.

    Now the Ins:-

Richard Nartey - Free - Will be the starting right sided ball playing DC

    image.thumb.png.83dae09c2bc67992eb3dd2cad8fca6ef.png

Aidan Barlow - Free - Will compete with the injury prone Jonny Williams and Chuks Aneke at AMC

    image.thumb.png.e056505cd50599c572c46098e987aaf9.png

Curtis Jones - Loan from Liverpool - too good for League One, happy he's with us and would love to renew or buy next season

    image.thumb.png.67681f59a143061b1ea661bfc2f2bc45.png

and the last reinforcement, born out of a mini injury crisis - Sepp Van Den Berg - £0 wages so no impact on the wages is a bonus

    image.thumb.png.96ff7f7f7ca66eda847d2ac3edddbde8.png

I have £300K in the budget with 12K wage room...might look for one or two prospects

Albie Morgan - looks like he could be beastly

    image.thumb.png.a1732eb4a71b3b920bf8f6755a86d4c0.png

Just at the start of October, had quite the friendly Carabo Cup draw which has enabled us to get into the last 8. Had a hiccup first game of the League against Crewe but since then 5 wins in a row

Yes, that's a weird one - just looked again and his history in FM shows he signed for Charlton on a free transfer in two consecutive seasons. Must be some kind of record! Hope things settle down at the Valley going forward. Cool links with Maidenhead too!

@DefinitelyTaylorFingers crossed for Barrow this season. Your participation in the thread will, as always, be very welcome, whoever you decide to manage. If you do, eventually, decide :D

Yeah things are getting settled, certainly on the pitch....

  4. Just starting my Charlton save up.....will post as often as I can...

@warlock great thread, must of taken sometime, regarding your overview on Charlton, Adam Matthews was at Charlton last year but was released in the summer due to his contract ending, us being transfer embargoed and the EFL counting Charlton U23 players as part of the 23 man squad meaning we couldn't add any more players until Sandgaard took over....

I'm also going to have a long save with Maidenhead United, my Grandad played upfront for them (104 Apps 74 goals) and now my son is in their Academy set-up

Oldham, Barrow and Harrogate look interesting League 2 options.

  5. Being a Charlton fan thought it time to start a save as them and forget the real life turmoil....

To my utter astonishment I got promoted through the play-offs in the first season, beating Fulham in the play-offs

    2nd Season - Prem

Transfer Activity - Was given a healthy 32M by the board, managed to sign a couple of gems

  6. Started up Sochaux again as I really enjoyed that save until it corrupted, there will be no restrictions around transfers, will mostly stick to French and African players but will add the odd South American / Eastern European to the team. Will still promote heavily from within the youth system.

Will post up my progress later

That sucks :(, good luck in Germany, while some people have a "Bogey Team", I have a "Bogey Country": Germany! I haven't lasted longer than 6 months before getting sacked since FM09 lol.

Regarding my St Etienne save, I haven't been able to play it this week (hence my switch to Touch) but I will fire it up on Sunday for a full day of swearing and shenanigans!

Yeah it was going really well with some very nice youth coming through....thanks, not tried Germany this year, the issue with the 3rd tier of German football can't sign anyone outside of the EU...No African bargains for me...at least until we get into the 2nd division.

Haha, post it up, certainly interested in seeing how you're going....

  8. @karanhsingh @Ronaldo Beckham Good starts in Spain chaps......I will start a save in Spain with Zaragoza at some point...I've just finished my Rangers save, got Sochaux going into Season 3, I also want to start a save with the team I support Charlton and a longer term youth save with Eintracht Braunschweig (it's a blue and yellow thing) I also want to start a save in Greece as it's generally a hard slog with the financial side of the Greek game

  9. Sochaux - Season 3 - September update

Great posts on all the saves chaps, keep em coming

September was a really good month, the only blip being the home draw against Strasbourg, the start to our European adventure couldn't have gone any better, thumping Roma 5-0 at home was particularly pleasing

  10. Season 3 - August update

Transfer Business - Quiet window really, not much in the way of in's as we look to promote a couple of the youth into the team

@AddicksFan Great work with Sochaux to finish 4th. I tried to snatch Jessim a few times but they want 20 times more than his £64,000 value and I have alternatives at the club now anyway.

I did pick up Trabelsi at the start of my first season as I needed any right-back who met my criteria and was young enough to sit in the Under 19 squad. I like the look of Galves (who was on my shortlist) and Camele (for reasons I will explain below). But I noticed that Nebodon, Viltard, Delphis, Ngeumbeu, Alvero, Saco, Youlou and Grillot in your youth team all look great prospects. You have even more in your 2nd Team, whilst Ndiaye and Virginius are already in the first team and looking good (the latter particularly).

    * I spent ages getting in suitable players under 19 for my Under 19 squad ahead of season 2. Sadly, I now find that four of them (aged 18) are too old to be eligible due to the rules which I didn't bother to check up on. I'm now having a last minute panic on to find a left-back and a couple of others as the left-back I signed just for this Under 19 squad in the summer is not allowed to play (age 18) and I have no other left-backs in that group. I've had to loan him and a couple of others out, because my 2nd Team is already properly balanced.

Thanks @Jogo Bonito Nebodon and Grillot are getting promoted to the first team this year as I am letting Daham and Moltenis go, they've done nothing but moan, Kaabouni is going as he's just not good enough now.

This guy is going to spend another season in the U18's, is probably my top prospect

We managed to finish 4th...a great achievement, Bordeaux got relegated, might be looking at who I can pick up on the cheap from them

    image.thumb.png.be5b6654f6b0614f25f794be319d4705.png

Finances looking good, especially after receiving the £11M for finishing 4th.....Transfer budget for next season is pretty much non-existent, will need to sell if I want to buy anyone of quality

    image.thumb.png.bd75726734423c318bae3c9c1565eedd.png

Signing of the season and probably up there for defender of the season too, not bad for £100K

    King Kebbeh

Jessim will be our centre forward for many years to come as long as no-one comes in for him during the summer!! 29 starts 6 off the bench, 20 goals in all comps

    image.thumb.png.78c4e7c0fcc7b246dd550fdc878ba3e7.png

Ouattara managed 28 starts 1 off the bench for 15 goals and 4 assists in all comps

My youth is looking pretty tasty with both these full backs being 1st teamers next season
