  1. Just caught up on all your threads...keep up the good work everyone...

Meanwhile back at Sochaux, my scouts recommended this fellow, managed to snap him up for £600K, couldn't resist, he's likely going to start for me next season, looks great and he's versatile too, Fonsinho is just returning from 8 Months out so not sure how he's going to play after such a significant injury..so I pulled the tirgger on the deal

I thought I saw something different there! In real life, he wouldn't be able to play that role, but in FM he looks like he could for you . Good luck, I like your outside of the box (no pun intended) thinking.

Haha, Now I've read your Lorient thread, are you sure there was no pun intended...

Yeah going to play him there in pre-season and see how he does.

@AddicksFan Looking very good for Sochaux. I think we all have Parfait & Brahima, but it's obvious to do so.

    Yeah it's going well,.

Especially when both are 5 star potential and so cheap to pick up....I only sign players recommended by my scouts. I won't sign them because I know from previous saves they turn out decent in FM

  4. Sochaux - January and February update (Season 2)

January was a hard month for the team, Eboa Eboa and King Kebbeh departed for the Africa Cup of Nations leaving us without two key players for a number of weeks....the fixtures weren't kind to us with two games against PSG...to which we suffered a bad loss after leading 2-0 before finally going down 6-3 after three goals in added time!! Another loss to PSG this time in the Cup, no complaints totally outplayed followed by a painful loss away to Lens.  February was totally different with the home form being fantastic and laying the foundation for our push to qualifying for European football next season. April looks to be a make or break in terms of Europe as we have tough games Away to Marseille and Lyon.

My player of the Month/s - He has really stepped up these past couple of Months and has scored some invaluable goals

The Transfer window was somewhat of an annoyance, with many inform and influential players being the subject of transfer bids from larger teams causing unrest within the dressing room after I gave in and sold an excellent youth prospect that had broken into the first team to Liverpool, a record transfer fee received of £10M with a 40% sell on clause.

Sidy DIagne - Sold for £10M plus 40% sell on

    image.thumb.png.f4993b0eca49366cc3eca33e9680c092.png

Also out went Anthony Lala a young and potentially talented LB to Lorient for £275K and the out of favour and getting on a bit Pape Paye left on a Free to Bourg en Bresse

We didn't bring anyone in but we have made two Free signings joining 1st July 21

A replacement for Diagne and likely starter next season with great potential:-

    image.thumb.png.9bac18554a501c997557109d8c76f700.png

Someone to provide depth to the team and be allowed time to grow:-

The club finances are now looking so much better. The sale of Diagne has mean't we could stabilise the wage budget and get a couple of important contracts sewn up

Here's the League Table - Looking good for Sochaux

  5. I truly sometimes do not understand this game at all.

Liverpool just came in for one of my youngsters, unsettled him, he asked to leave, I said no originally as they only offered his current value of £250K, they came back in, I negotiated and sold him for 10M plus 40% of next sale.

Players are unhappy that I backed down, even though the club was in debt due to every single greedy player coming to me for improved contracts due to being in Ligue 1!!

The board are unhappy with the finances involved....even though it's a record fee for Sochaux!

I just wish a little more intelligence was placed into the Transfer system and the effects it has....

    UEL winners: Arsenal

UCL winners: Liverpool (trashing City 5-0 in the final)

    Promoted:

Lorient and Clermont (Montpellier beat Valenciennes in the playoff)

Overall it has been an exceptional season for us. We won silverware and won the league in our first season. PSG did not have their best season and I expect to be extremely strong next season but I'm still very happy. Our transfer budget for next season will be 12 million so we will see what we can do there to strengthen the team for Champions League football next year.

Great effort, love that Neymar vid

Being in 4th place is great, definitely more than a mixed bag!! Best of luck for the rest of the season

True, I think I should prepare myself for a long haul on this one rather than look to make huge strides forward every season, which we have done so far to be fair but it gets a lot harder from here on out.

Thanks for the kind words.....yeah I sort of believe the French league to be a longer term save due to the gap between PSG and the rest

I have a question on squad building for the good folks here. Say your team is progressing well and making strides forward. Qualify for europa then the next season make the CL but there is obviously still a gap to the top of the league. The squad is well settled with the senior players all over performing and good youngsters as back up in every position. How do you go from there? Do you sell and upgrade the players even though they have been doing so well?

It's something that I can now foresee myself struggling with at Red Star because we have been punching above our weight and I am not too sure how to keep pushing forward from here. Also in France this is a peculiar issue because the gap between PSG and the rest is so large - at least on my save. How do you catch up? They just finished a season wherein they dropped a grand total of 6 points and the top 3 scorers in the league all play for them - Mbappe Neymar and Mane

Money, youth system and reputation in my opinion

Qualifying for the Champions League regularly will bring in the funds and increase the clubs reputation, allowing it over time, say at least 3 to 4 seasons of continual qualification and a couple of years making at a minimum the knockout rounds to both grow financially and reputationally, meaning better players will begin to be affordable and want to join...

Having a great youth system should be used as a profit centre, it will allow you to promote to your first team and loan out for experience (only if the team you are loaning too has good or better training facilities and a minimum guarantee of important player) but also over time allows you to sell for huge profits. Obviously you may want to keep the odd starlet but again it's a fine line between success now or later, plus the great youth players will attract offers you just have to set a fee that you'd be happy to accept which ultimately benefits the team

It might take a few years to knock PSG off their perch but IMO it's doable

  9. Sochaux - December update

Results wise it's been a bit of a mixed bag really, a hammering away from home against Monaco and a stuttering draw away to Amiens hampered our progress a little, mind you injuries to key players have not helped one bit..we still find ourselves vying for Europe..January and February will be tough two of my most influential players Eboa Eboa and Kebbeh are off to the Africa Cup of Nations.....

    image.thumb.png.b91eee1fac9c8201c7f9efebdfe5c552.png

King Kebbeh picked up two awards, Player of the Year Ligue 2 and Foreign Player of the Year winner Ligue 1.....Prevot picked up the revelation of the Year Ligue 1 award.

My player of the Month has to be this little fella, incredible performances, which have now drawn the attention of Europe's elite clubs and two offers for £1.1M!!!! from Liverpool and Chelsea....he's happy to stay though.....

  10. October and November - tough run of fixtures in November see Sochaux come unstuck against Rennes however great results against Marseille and Lyon, see us high up the league.

Injuries to key players could be damaging to our longer term aspirations - Fonsinho had been on fire before getting a long term injury

    image.thumb.png.e2760ebbb3603e816d6a18ac7b8a0f85.png

I've got a few players throwing their toys out the pram because they feel they deserve either a new contract or more playing time.....will probably ship them on in the summer but it is proving difficult to sell players...

Kebbeh, Diagne and Pellissard are now wanted by a number of big clubs.....

@AddicksFan I like the signing of Eboa Eboa and Zouzoua. Fonsinho looks generously rated still in FM so makes sense. He seems to have disappeared IRL (not literally but in football development) so you should be able to give him the career he isn't quite having. Aubertin probably has random stats, in my game he is very small, weak and limited (Generation Foot are one of my feeder affiliates). Good luck in Ligue 1 and enjoy the ride.

@bendixkunert2 Lille would be a great choice. If ASSE aren't taken elsewhere, would you still be Lille?

@raymondafc It will be great to have you on board. ASSE are a good pick, they have great traditions, very passionate fans and in general are a club that has been underwhelming for years and years. The added spice of a real grudge derby with OL to enjoy too.

    Thanks fella
