Unfortunately it is super easy!! The game is brilliant otherwise, but the level of difficulty makes it super boring. I wish they had an option for users to select the level of difficulty (for us who want it to feel like real life), but I get it most people probably just like to win no matter how unreal that feels...
try this mod for your next save

I doubt you can do that with real clubs - even if it's just a game and everyone understands that. Imagine if Botafogo or Palmeiras were relegated due to corruption in the game; 1) Their fans wouldn't be happy and 2) The Directors and the PR department wouldn't put Football Manager on their Christmas card list. Not sure but could be some legal issues as well.

I hadn't come across the smarter AI mod before. Will need to give it a try.
I can't play the game without it. Same with the Realistic Transfer Preferences one (but that's more relevant playing leagues outside of UK).

@Mars_Blackmon @majesticeternity
I don't know what it is then in that mod that means that the opposition is at least getting at least a handful of shots on target when playing away, something the beta and launch version of the game didn't do . It also changes so that away games against mid and top opposition is no longer a foregone conclusion, another thing the launch version didn't. And as far as squad building goes, I certainly think they are very shrewd. Sure, some clubs like Juventus still loves to sign a 34-year old or extend their contracts.
But overall it makes the game more challenging IMO. It makes it harder to just run through a league breaking points and goalscoring records along the way.

You again.
You don't even use it, how you know?

Yes, a thousand times yes, the game is still too easy. The AI is too defensive, and won't even try to win matches when 1 or 2-0 down with 10 min to go. The AI can't build or maintain their squads, so that by the time my non-league side reaches the premier league after 5 back-to-back promotions, it's met by aging, overpaid, and unbalanced big teams. And I won't accept having to cripple myself artificially to make it more challenging as an answer.
The Smarter AI Managers mod fixes this.

I'm 11 seasons in now and I have to say that overall I find it's harder to deliberately sell players than it was on 19 or 20. Even 4-star players with a 7+ season behind them and one year left on contract are difficult to shift for reasonable money. Anyone else finding this too?

so what if the game has scripted a little rut for you? Serves you right for save scumming the first draw
.
Just play through it.

I would recommend the following mods:
- Realistic Transfer Preferences - no more Italians in Scandinavia or Americans in Russia
- Alternative Youth Rating - keeps nr of superstars in the future to the same level as today (otherwise a 300% increase)
- Smarter AI Managers - increases the difficulty so depends how challenging you want it to be
- Better Crowd Colours
- Awards Overhaul
- Media Overhaul
- 100 Youth Tournaments
All these can be found in this forum:
https://community.sigames.com/forums/forum/834-editors-hideaway-download-forum-fm21/
From Nik33's Data Pack I recommend Career Plans, Partnerships, Relationships and Generic Changes:

Finally, if you want to be up to date in terms of squads, staff etc you can download Darkness Data & Transfers mod, v4:
Oh, and real names fix of course!

Today's game is missing some information on nations, competitions, leagues, clubs or players that if included, would increase the realism and immersion significantly. This can range from improving transfers by assigning more preferred nations for all the leagues to career plans for certain players and managers. Luckily today, there are a few volunteer creators that create mods which adds this type of information to the game and make it so much better.
However, most players don't download these mods and unfortunately these creators don't get paid for all the hundreds, or even thousands, of hours of work they put in to making these. So my suggestion is that SI start licensing or buying these files and include them in the game at default for FM22. I bet it would be relatively inexpensive to do for a company of SI's size and would require very little extra work.
It would make the game a few % better for all players however.

I had no idea that the researchers were all volunteers. You're right, that changes things slightly.
And even though I've said thank you for your files previously, I am enormously grateful for them as I can't play the game without some them. I will definitely show my appreciation on Patreon!

Man it really annoys me that the game has so many jaring errors, incomplete or missing information. I can forgive some bugs (for a while), but the lack of, or quality of, data entry is astounding.
Your files (transfer preferences, club transfer, market values) and nik33's (relationships, partnerships, manager career plans) for example shouldn't have to exist - they should be there from the beginning. It's not even hard to do (no offense) compared to all other areas of making a game.

What? The game at default pumps in 65m euros into each club annually?
0 -
It's a mixture of what might be correct according to my own feeling, as the values per default are not incorrect, it seems to be a function that the editor doesn't transfer correct into the main game.
ok understood, just wanted to check as your description first said it was 65m/annum but it was a decimal point error, I automatically assumed it was 6,5m (euros). But then I realised that's way too low - the Swedish league has 40-45m/annum. You sure the 65m figure isn't correct?

Trust me, it was related to two English managers and two DoF in succession that were all English. But the last batch left the club in late summer 2020, and from now on I don't see them buying any English players. In fact, they have a 1-year transfer embargo currently! And on the verge of bankruptcy!
Btw, about the Belgian sponsorship error - what has it been changed to annually in your file?

Hi Dave,
Thanks for sharing the screenshots, much appreciated. My honest opinion is that maybe the custom Jupiler league transfer fees are a bit too low compared to real life? Even the salaries of the top club went down by 4 million, no? Which could happen of course, especially post-covid. Are there any covid mechanics still at play with your files or your changes overrides the ones in vanilla?
The club transfer file is a great new addition! Will there not be any crossover from the transfer preferences file or they can co-exist? Was thinking of Portugal for example, surely your file already has Brazil as one of the top nations? In terms of feedback, I think you can remove Ostersunds FK from the file - the English players were linked to English managers who are no longer at the club. Maybe add Shakhtar to the Brazilian wonderkid fetishes club? And Sint-Truiden in Belgium have 5 Japanese players currently, probably classifies as an obsession!

Is it just me, or do headed goals, never happen?
Most of my goals (and the opposition for that matter) seem to be 20-30 yard stunners. I just beat Derby 3-1 and 3 of those goals (2 from me, 1 from Derby) was screamers. Rarely do I see a striker go through one on one and score a simple tap in. Crosses go in and 9 times out of 10 it is either blocked or straight at the keeper. And as I say, I am 2 years into a save and genuinely do not think my team have scored a header from open play.
Is there a known issue logged with finishing?
It must be different leagues and different tactics that result in different patterns of play. I personally see lots of headed goals, not least from corners but also crosses. Through balls and 1v1's probably most common type of goal for me. FM20-style long shots are rarer however.
Try and change your tactic and see if that makes a difference.

Haha, just like they could in real life! This reminded me though that dividend payments seem to have been removed from FM21 - not seen it so far.

Could be a bug with finances in FM21. I've noticed that the finances doesn't add up at Leipzig either, constantly warned we are failing FFP by quite a lot, yet simsalabim after June 26th (season resets) I receive a message that it's all gravy and 150-300m euros injected again via "others" and "sponsorship". Whatsmore, even though we have a 600m+ bank balance, the Chairman recently had to inject 25m to cover a loan. What?

I get what you're saying, but no we don't lol. Its really annoying that FM made this part of the American language pack. We call General Managers of franchises that, but no American I know calls a DoF a GM.
Don't they do the same job? Strategy, recruitment, contracts and squad management?

would downloading a DB that has every countries youth rating as 200 generate more newgens?
haha, no. But it would ruin the game.

I'm only in a 6-month long pre-season (Sweden 2020 due to covid), but I'd say injuries so far have doubled compared to vanilla with Nik's Extended Injuries mod. More niggling injuries for sure. Best one was the poor bloke who got pneumonia for a day!
Is that how it's roughly gonna be going forwards?
