  1. All database changes have been made in the 1 file (The England one). The others edit advanced nation rules but do not have database changes in them. The only exception is where I've created a new competition in one of the other nations, but I've now found it's easiest to do that in the England file and just set the nation to wherever it's based- thereby avoiding the problem in my initial question where several competitions share the same ID.

  2. I've found that merging files with different nation rules sometimes prevents you from being able to edit them properly. For example here, where I've merged an English Advanced nation rules database with a Welsh one, and it no longer treats Wales as a nation, or loads that nation's competitions as it should.

It's tricky because my goal is to create more connections between the home nations, so for example I'm creating a team based in Dublin that plays in the Premier League but also plays in some Irish competitions, including their U18 side. The way I'm doing this is to move the defunct Dublin City FC into the Premier League in the England database and apply all changes there, and then going into the Irish database and adding Dublin City as a 'specific team' to the comps I want them to enter.

Generally, this approach has worked fine for me so far, with 4 separate files doing separate things. In the end I'll have 6 (one for each nation of the British Isles and one for a new continental qualification system) so I'll have to see if that causes any problems. For now, I'm making sure changes made in one don't affect the others, and the only issues are coming from the Sortitoutsi real names fix, which overrides some changes I've made.

IFf you use multiple files you need to ensure that your files are loaded in game in specific order. In last couple years that order was controled in alphabetical order (i think) but i think someone wrote something about this for fm21. Its changed somehow - not sure about this. One question - why you use multiple files for one save? Can you add everything to one file?

I'm making changes to the advanced nation rules of multiple nations, and possibly some continental changes too. Merging them together causes glitches sometimes, but do you think that's a better way of doing it?

  4. Does anyone know if there's a way to change the Unique ID of a new competition?

I'm creating several in several databases that will be loaded into one save, so adding graphics gets complicated. I can use the random IDs to ensure the right graphics show for each competition, but if I'm creating dozens of new competitions and sub-divisions, this will make a while. Setting the IDs would ensure each competition is viewed by the game completely uniquely and then easier to add graphics to.

Any ideas whether this is possible? I've tried creating 100 new entries and deleting the first 90 but when I reopen the file, the ID's change to the lowest available again. Also tried editing the XML and importing but the same thing happens.

  5. No problem at all. If you export a file as an XML, you can then edit it in Notepad (or similar). All you need to do is search (Ctrl+F) for the 'verf' line in the text. This may be at the start, middle or end of the text and there may be more than 1 of these lines. Simply delete the entire line of text and save the file. You'll then be able to load it in FM.

  6. Finland is a pain. Working around the first problem raises the second, which should be an easy fix, but isn't working as expected.

I also thought simply ticking [Other stage actions > Stages from other comps > Isn't always needed] in both Finnish first division entries, and then tick [stages> stage 4 > general> Don't add stage if not enough teams>yes] in the Finnish premier League entries, would work, but it doesn't. You can then verify, but I've tested in game and it stops the promotion/relegation between the two leagues working properly. Unfortunately I don't have any more time right now to test further.

SI really need to fix these verification bugs, they're very frustrating. In the meantime, I usually force verification and test in-game.

IIRC on previous versions of FM, Italian Serie B has only 19 teams to compete but next season it become 20 teams.

can I do this with Editor?. I want to add 6 more teams to Greek Super League from 2nd division on the next season (2021/2022).

Yes. You'll need to go to Nation Rules > Greece > Add lower divisions to existing structure > advanced rules. Then click on list, find the Greek Super League and 2nd Division and duplicate them. Now when you select either from the drop-down menu, you'll see two entries for each (you might want to change the description to differentiate the two). Have the first entry end in 2020, and the second entry begin in 2021. Then in the second Super League entry, add 6 teams to anywhere that mentions it (Could be in general or in the league stage itself). Then in the first second division entry (the one that ends in 2020), add 6 to the number of promoted teams.

It probably wont be that simple, I'm sure you'll get warnings but with trail and error it should work.

  8. Still struggling with this, driving me mad!

I restarted the process, extracting the European competitions as per your tutorial, krlenjushka. Ran a test without making changes, runs fine. Then the moment I merge the database with "club continental rules" added, the existing European competitions no longer load, even if no custom continental rules have actually been applied. If my custom CL is in the database, it does load, but again only runs a single season.

I thought I could just copy across the 'stages' into the existing CL system so it should work,  but any changes to the existing structure and it won't run for more than a season.

Is there any way to force the competition to end? That seems to be the problem, the final is played, and if I manually set history to record the final, then  the winner is recorded. But the system doesn't recognise that that's the end, almost as if it is waiting for something else to happen.

Given the structure is virtually identical to the original Champions League structure, I'm sure I've not missed a tick box or anything- I've checked it so many times. It must be a bug, I'm just wondering if there's any way around it by forcing the competition to end to allow the new season to start?

    • UK wide cup. This replaces league cups in Scotland, England, Northern Ireland and Wales. I have this on the steam workshop for FM20 if anyone is interested. keep an eye on the reputations of leagues and clubs in scotland, northern ireland and wales. In theory the exposure to bigger teams should help them a lot with revenue and experience.

    ...

    • "The Old Firm in the Premiership/Premier League" I wasn't sure about posting this, because this is a clickbaity video I'd like to make at some point. Anyway the twist is it's not Rangers and Celtic in the Premiership, that's been done a few times and it's always interesting, but no, this is different. The background is that Rangers and celtic have a game, and a horrific day of violence follows. There is such a public outcry that the SFA calls an emergency meeting. It is finally agreed and negotiated for Rangers to be moved to the Northern Irish Danske bank premiership, and Celtic to move to the Eirtricity premier League  of the Republic of Ireland. It's up to you what to do with stadiums, you could leave them in Glasgow, and see if they eventually move to cut down travel costs, or let them temporarily groundshare with Linfield and Shamrock Rovers respectively. Or you could build them some brand new stadiums in their new nations. The question is how will this affect the reputation of the Scottish league? How will it affect the reputations of the NI/RoI leagues? Will other teams emerge in Scotland and become as big as the old firm, or will the league fade into obscurity? Will any of the other teams be able to compete with the Old Firm giants? All interesting questions I think. You could also go a bit further with this experiment and put Cliftonville, Lurgan Celtic, and Donegal Celtic into the RoI league as well on the same theme. Maybe chuck Hibs into Ireland, and Hearts into NI as well. It's up to you, but whatever you do, let me know how it goes!

These ideas are similar to the ones I'm exploring at the moment. Ive added the top 10 clubs from Scotland and NI into the English league system (although they still play in the Scottish cup) and created a new nationwide league cup to replace the Carabao Cup. This cup throws up some really interesting match-ups, in theory increasing exposure and income for smaller teams in Wales, Scotland, NI and Ireland (who are included for the purposes of this).

Ive got a save of this simulated 30 years into the future.

Unfortunately, it isnt as exciting as you might think. With the largest 9 clubs removed, the Scottish Prem gets quite interesting with Livingston, Ross County, St Mirren and Raith usually competing for the title. However, they gradually lose more of their European coefficient and the league reputation decreases. The 'Union Cup' doesn't increase the reputation of the home nation leagues much, if at all. I tend to find that clubs aren't very good at spending their money in FM.

This save also has a lot of other things going on, and some teams were messed around with- for example financial sanctions were placed on the Big 6 to try and reduce their dominance but it hasn't really worked. Except Chelsea. Chelsea got relegated, which was fun.

I have attached the save below if youre interested. I did go further than 2040 but can't find the save game, maybe I deleted it.

Looking to develop this idea further in future, with an expanded Irish domestic league system and a Dublin-based team in the PL.

  10. Cheers for the reply. Have tested all morning but unfortunately no combination of these works.

Setting the version to 1000 (Fixed rules) or 999 (Flexible rules) sometimes crashes the game mid-way through the season. Sometimes it works ok. 1 is more stable.

However in all of them the competition just doesn't end as planned after the final. A winner is recorded but the process of restarting the competition doesn't begin.

If I start the competition later, in 2021, it works as planned but again only runs one season.

  11. Often I'll post a question and figure it out myself after a few hours but this has been bugging me for days.

I've created a new Champions League qualification system and competition, which works pretty well for the first year, but goes no further. The 2020-21 final is played in late may but the competition does not restart in June as it's meant to.

    I've tried:

    - Creating a gap between the season update and set-up days.
    - Creating separate list entries for subsequent seasons.
    - With 'Valid years' set.
    - Competition overlapping years off/on.
    - Registered teams off/on.
    - Setting the update day to after the final stage has finished.
    - Having no season update day at all.
    - Having no set-up day.
    - Offsetting the start year, or having no start year at all.
    - Every combination of date ranges (July-May, June-May, June-June)
    - Moving the finals date forward into mid-may
    - Moving the first stage back to July and August.

One thing i thought it could be- it doesn't give me the option to change between fixed / flexible rules so maybe it isn't applying the rules correctly?

There are a few other things I want to iron out and will eventually build other European competitions onto this, so there's some loose ends in this file, but none that should affect the season restarting in 2021-22.

    Can anyone help?!

  12. Kkrlenjushka gave a really handy tip in one of these threads that I've found works well.

Export the unverified file and then open the XML file in notepad or similar.

Search for a line containing 'verf'. This is sometimes the first line, sometimes near the end.

Delete this entire line as shown. Then, simply save the file and load FM, and you should be able to load the file without issues.

A word of warning, as you've forced verification, your game may crash if the file is unstable. Much more difficult to diagnose problems this way, but as you say, if there are bugs with things you haven't touched it should load fine.

  13. I'm attempting to recreate the continental club system in Europe but coming up against a range of issues. I have recreated the Champions league and euro cups, partially by copying the rules into this 'Recreate from scratch' file, and then recreating the qualification system. The result of this can be found in the "RAW" files attached. However, it won't let me test these rules, the option is greyed out, and therefore I can't verify the file to play in game.

However, I could use the "test competitions" tab and came across a known error raised before, with the Bulgarian leagues (an error which occurs even when these aren't loaded).

To resolve this I created a new database with advanced nation rules for Bulgaria edited to fix the error messages that otherwise show. I then merged this database with the Europe one, a process that can be a little buggy but I've done successfully before. You end up with advanced nation and advanced continental rules in the same database. This can be tested and verified, and these "BULG ALT" files are attached below too. However, despite the continental system showing as planned in the editor, the game loads without any European club continental competitions loaded.

I think a bug is causing this, the game seems reluctant to load any new European qualification system whichever method I try. It is possible to recreate the system in FM21, I've seen it done, but does this only work if the structure and rules of the competitions themselves are also recreated from scratch, or is there a way to copy the existing competition structures into a custom qualification system?

  14. Interesting. Someone better qualified than me may come along with better advice but this is how I'd attempt to do it.

The top division would be a single competition with various stages within it. In the advanced editor, your stage 0 wants to be a 'group' stage with 2 regionalised groups of 10 teams, 1 round of fixtures.

You then want to set qualification rules so that the top 5 from each group advance to Stage 1 (your Division C) where they play another round of fixtures. You can choose to either take the results from Stage 0 into Stage 1 or start afresh.

Stage 2 is your division D.

I'd take a look at the scottish premiership which uses a similar system. the only difference with yours is that you'll regionalise the first phase. One feature I've found useful is the ability to duplicate competitions if you go to Advanced Rules > List, so maybe start by duplicating the Scottish Prem rules in that list, reassigning the competition that those rules apply to and edit away!

@Samuel77I didn't abolish them, I literally just deleted them. Just go to competitions and delete Bulgarian first league. Unfortunately for Bulgarian teams they won't be participating in your European League.

I've got this same issue, but deleting the Bulgarian first division just gives me another error (No Bulgarian top division set).

@Freddie Sands Any update on when this will be fixed?
