The rule is that they shouldn't be playable, so what I'd do is only include the third tier in my leagues at the start and you'll still have a team promoted from the fourth tier without them being playable at any point of your save.

For those who are interested in the effect of the DoF Negotiation Technique this is how it plays out. So I offer a contract under normal circumstances for Rajko Radulovic (Elite6) who is 3.5 current ability and 5 star potential 18 year old 2 times Swiss capped player currently on £20k a week (using this technique previously) and is estimated to be worth between £7.8m and £11.5m: This is somewhat more awkward of a negotiation than usual but you can see there is a £12m minimum fee release clause for clubs in Continental Competition and its locked by the agent with no expiry date possible......oh well looks like Radulovic will leave me for a Dortmund or a Juventus for £12m Meanwhile in a parallel universe my DoF wanted to help out: I then click continue once and the contract options change to the following Upon changing the contract offer I can see what the DoF managed to negotiate Quite the difference The minimum fee is no longer locked (so you can try removing it but I actually quite like a high minimum fee as it lets me play the "You have a release clause" card even though it doesn't always work out well), the expiry date is also set to 2 years from now (which you can change) and most importantly the limit has been removed. What I usually do here is increase the agent fee and wage because I've found some agents get a bit annoyed as they had previously agreed a deal meaning you have to make it worth their while. I appreciate this technique might not be for everyone especially if the player is asking for the upper end of available salaries but it may just make the difference to being able to hold onto that star 30+ goal a season striker and losing them for pittance.

Out of interest has anyone managed to get fully upgraded youth facilities in this challenge in FM23 yet?

Negotiating is only 13 but it seems to be enough to do the job EDIT: He has a 4.5 star rating (when viewing in the staff search including my own staff) so I think he's a pretty good DoF

So the idea is you get a DoF to do the contract negotiation with a player and you click continue. Once you get control again go to change the contract offer and you can adjust it from there. As an example I was having players regularly ask for minimum fee of around £11m and now I've been able to put them to £100m for several of my players.....however I have been able to do that based on the fact I upped the wage and agent fee quite a bit. In general I think the tip works but the more financial power you have the more you can up the minimum fee or indeed remove it provided you are quite generous with the wage and fee offered. I'm in a position where I have over £150m in the bank so money isn't really a concern to me so I might as well pump into into the wages and agent fees to keep my best players around.

I'm simply speechless at this I've never had so many entries in the NxGn (this is the second year running Cantarella was Number 1 as well - PSG came calling in January window and I stood firm as he has £100m release clause - thanks @thomas_e for that tip with the Director of Football negotiating as it generally leaves the minimum fee there but has no capped value) Cantarella, Jusufi, Radulovic and Begradze didn't surprise me too much but Hasani just turned 16 and Beckert wasn't really one that was on my radar as being a real top prospect. Now in Season 9 I've actually managed to knock back offers from teams like Dortmund and Bayern without the players kicking up a stink. Jusufi had a derisory offer from Man City in the summer but forgot about it quickly enough and Cantarella had the PSG offer which he has recently just said he is happy to stay at the club now. It certainly looks as though my club reputation is at a level where its no longer a simple case of European sides poaching/unsettling my players for pittance.

Largely depends on your finances and whether you can keep the momentum going if you sell them. I wouldn’t keep them on in the hope they will sign a new deal, it rarely happens. If you need finances then sell them and blood a youngster on the verge of regular first team football, if you have the finances but not the depth of squad, keep them but make sure to play their replacement during this season.

Ok that's it confirmed. If you want to keep your best players in European leagues DON'T add the top league from the big 5, I've pretty much destroyed my save in one transfer windows as I've lost 4 first team players (3 for minimum fees and one who was leaving in 2 years anyway so he wasn't happy). I now have £114m in the bank but my first team is decimated.

Nice one with the promotion and loving the 3rd kit (reminds me of the rangers 96/97 (one of my all-time favourites as it’s synonymous with Laudrup, Gascoigne and Jorg Albertz) I think when you start to have fewer of the legacy players it definitely improves your squad cohesion, I remember my decision to let my record appearance striker `9who was scoring well) go leave the club because I had a 16 year old who was banging in the goals for fun, never looked back.

I think I've made a big mistake in my save. I added the top league from the big 5 so that I could perhaps get better staff (the staff list seemed really stale). As soon as the leagues were added BOOM, bids in for Pereira and Duda (Duda's minimum fee release clause now activated), U18s staff getting poached etc. It got me thinking, is it too easy without the other leagues involved? It almost seems a bit like a cheat in a way as the clubs in those leagues aren't prominent. I mean Duda is either off to West Brom, Norwich or West Ham which for a 19 year old Albanian with 20 caps seems plausible, but before this no club was interested. The only players attracting any interest were my top players and it was alwys Bayern, Dortmund, Juventus or Inter etc.

Seems you are scoring plenty but also conceding a lot. Are the goals coming from open play or set pieces? I’d probably try focusing on a counter attacking formation especially is you have pace up top.

I really hope the board takeover happens for me, been touted for a while now. I fought with the current board about a new stadium for a while now, we are at 98% capacity with 3000 fans on a season ticket waiting list and yet they say that they don't believe we have the fans to fill it. Even threatening to leave they said maybe its best you go, so I had to back down obviously otherwise the challenge is over

These low minimum fees that the agents insist on is proving annoying, I only started playing my RB Wieser when I called him back from his loan 1 year ago now Inter have snapped him up for £2.5m and 50% of profit of next sale (he had minimum fee of £2.6m so I tried to maximise the potential incoming funds) He had great mentals and personality, oh well onto the next in line....

@hubwub For me Blanco is probably the better fit given he is an HoYD whereas D'Angelo is a goalkeeping coach. Professional to Fairly Professional may not be that big a differentiator

It’s not the fact you gradually lost form it just fell off a cliff with a 6-0 loss. It feels like a feature that they haven’t got the balance quite right. Did you see players were complacent at the pre-match team talk?
