<BLOCKQUOTE class="ip-ubbcode-quote"><div class="ip-ubbcode-quote-title">quote:</div><div class="ip-ubbcode-quote-content"> Scholes fighting fit, warns Ferguson

Friday July 14 2006

Paul Scholes is back and ready to wreak havoc on the Barclays Premiership again next season.

At one stage last season it appeared the 31-year-old's career was in jeopardy as specialists struggled to precisely diagnose an eye problem which he suffered in December and left him with badly blurred vision.

"Paul Scholes is back - it is as simple as that," said Ferguson. "It doesn't matter who I am thinking about bringing into my midfield, Paul Scholes will be included, as he would in any side in the world."

He added: "He is a fantastic footballer and without question Paul can still have a massive impact on the Premiership. I am delighted to have him back."

Ferguson admitted the worries surrounding Scholes were so acute because it was a problem United had never faced before.

Eventually, rest was prescribed as the best method of easing the swelling which appeared behind his right eye. And, as usual time proved to be the great healer.

"What he experienced last year was a worry because it was the type of injury we had no knowledge of.

"We didn't really know how it happened, therefore we were a bit anxious about it.

"But, as we got to the end of the season, he started to improve and now he is 100%.

"He has come through every training session so far. He is only 31 and he still has a good few years ahead of him." </div></BLOCKQUOTE>

So basically like a new signing then!

<BLOCKQUOTE class="ip-ubbcode-quote"><div class="ip-ubbcode-quote-title">quote:</div><div class="ip-ubbcode-quote-content"> United 'close to Carrick deal'

United are close to finalising a deal for Tottenham midfielder Michael Carrick, according to Sir Alex Ferguson.

Speculation in Friday's tabloids claimed that a deal to bring the 25-year-old England international to Old Trafford was set to be announced.

When asked by MUTV about the alleged move, Sir Alex replied: "We're close to that. There have been some agreements on part of it but I think it’s to be finalised over the day or so.â€

The Gaffer also went on to deny rumours of a swoop for Carrick's club and international team-mate Jermain Defoe, and admitted he is less than hopeful about signing Milan midfielder Gennaro Gattuso.

“Well there has been no interest from us on the Tottenham situation," he said. "We made a move for Carrick and that’s the only thing we did, that was the only player of interest to us at this moment in time.

"I think it will stay that way. I’ve got young Rossi to consider and I want to see him progress as a centre forward. He;s more likely to be staying here now.

"With Gattuso, we were always waiting to see what happened to AC Milan and now they're in the European Cup and still in Serie A, there’s very little chance of progress as he’s such an important player for them.†</div></BLOCKQUOTE>

We really wouldn't, for the simple reason that we don't do negative stifling tactics well at all, and it's cost us so many times in the past, both this season and in seasons before. We've looked good or great in the majority of games where we've played 4-4-2 this season, and poor the majority of times we've played that strange lopsided 4-5-1. I doubt you'd have seen one critical post about the tactics if we'd gone down playing that way. </div></BLOCKQUOTE>

No english teams do it well. I just don't understand citicism when we've progressed. I guess familiarity really does breed contempt. </div></BLOCKQUOTE>

Because funnily enough, the scoreline doesn't always tell the story of the game, and on top of that continually making the same mistake is considered a bad thing.

Fwiw we didn't really want to go to Southend and my dad said we couldn't go to West Ham because it's too close to Christmas especially because we're going to Villa next saturday. I can't remember if there was a reason why we didn't apply for Reading, probably because we didn't fancy it, or maybe because the tickets were too expensive, especially for Reading. (£39 iirc)

Btw a friend of my dad's has booked a flight to Brussels from Manchester for the Lille game. £60 return and then they're getting a train to Lens, a bit of a weird way to go in my opinion.

he didn't go into the crowd. he did come over loads though and had a laugh with her at full-time.

talking of full-time, god i hate the way people leave early in situations like that. the team have worked their arses off and played a blinder, they deserve a full stadium applauding them off. 'koff part-timers </div></BLOCKQUOTE>

There are 3 or 4 arabian (i think) guys behind the bench and have season tickets i think (every home game same spot so i guess that's the reason) and i always laughed saying "Oh look at the Taliban watching the game" but today around the 91st minute tv pictures showed the bench again and there they were the taliban still there, not leaving or anything, and singing.

And i realized that it's wrong to make fun of them cuz they aren't part-timers icon_frown.gif </div></BLOCKQUOTE>

Yep, beat me too it! I'm a Sikh with a turban and fully grown beard, so I should know!

For the record, Arabs rarely grow fully grown beards and fewer wear turbans. The Arabs have their turbans usually with part of it dangling down at the back.

There you go, you learn something new everyday.

Re Ruud: It’s a bit like of you had a hand chopped off.

Whilst some people simply stood screaming, staring at the bloodied stump, revelling in the pain and bemoaning the loss the rest of us quickly noticed that the remaining limbs had bizarrely gained new bionic powers and overall co-ordination and productivity had improved.

Not sure how this analogy can be used to explain how the rotting lump of dead flesh was able to attach itself to a new body and perform admirably despite the general poor functioning of the new host.

Christ, what a waste of a post. </div></BLOCKQUOTE>
