Yugo23 - well done on promotion although looking at the players they are way above anything that will sign for me, i'm not surprised the board want to make the playoffs.

£3.6K p/w for one player seems staggering, thats almost as much as my entire budget!

i think you may be in administration by the end of the season unless a great cup run or promotion occurs.

I tried to sell that high earning player for zero, but there were no offers. I guess he will have to see out his contract this season. There was a board change, and new board took a loan of 600K until 2041. Also, they keep pumping some money every month or two to keep the club running, so I am not sure that it will be that bad at the end of the season. I even started bringing some more players to improve squad depth.

Players in FM2015 is way to pleased with themselves. I basically run a rotation system where I have 2 players for each position in my line-up and unless a player is injured or badly out of match form I rotate all the played from match to match. This is a major issue for me - half way through the first season with FC United 5 players have asked to be sold because they don't feel that they get enough first team football. I really think the reply options I have in these meetings is very limited - no way to tell a player that I think he is getting his fair share of matches.

I have used this style of playing in the previous 5 versions of FM (if not more) and never has such a big problem with unhappy players as I do right now.

Going for this challenge again this season. Holiday is going on at the moment. Will post when I find a team. Will try this challenge with a small team (if I have the patience to keep reloading ;))

the patch notes also reference this:

- Fixed the issue of a users profile changing unexpectedly

So I'm hoping that the coaching badge bug is also fixed, gonna load up a new game and get going again.

The way it happened for me have been fixed at least. I've been careful not to enter the preferences menu up to now, but as I tried to recreate the bug after I had updated it didn't happen. So it seems to have fixed it, at least for me and the way I experienced it.

I hope it hasn't changed too much since i had made a good start to the season, my defence was actually working.

Edit: still can't get on a coaching course, but at least i can get coaches opinions on my players not just the ass mans.

XAW - do you actually do any training?

First game after patch and this happens :o, hopefully that was a one off! (I'm Witton by the way so it was good, really)

And I envy you XaW! Let me know how much your attributes go up by :)

Always nice to win that big, but it could happen once in a while anyway.

I've asked my board several times to go a course, but they have refused. Someone gave me the tip to remove myself from coaching before asking and it seemed to work. :)

I tried that one before and they refused due to lack of money and then sent 2 of my coaches on courses!

Good idea! I'll give that a try once I get another chance to ask :) Thanks!

Drew the next game 1-1, then lost vs a really odd 3-5-2 formation 1-3 so fortunately it's not a trend

After almost 100 reloads, the rarest team that I saw was Witton. I think I only saw 10 or 12 different teams come up.

Not battered - But have had 1 loss and 5 draws after the patch.

I played a Control tactic, for away games I'm finding that switching to Standard (vs equal or worse teams) and Counter (vs better teams) is helping a lot.

Marine Profile

Marine General

Marine Facilities

Interesting facts about Marine - Marine is notable for having the longest serving manager in post-war English football. Roly Howard occupied the post for 33 years, and a total of 1,975 games. His final match was in May 2005. Also Kenny Dalglish is a patron of the club.

Overall the club has 3 decent players in my opinion

Only 20 times? Oh you sweet summer child.

20 times is nothing :D I have reloaded 200+ and probably seen half the teams? Its quite difficult to get the rare teams this season

I've gotten 41 of the 72 teams in....300ish? give or take? attempts. That includes 7 or 8 base saves (save holiday about a week before the promotion date, and replay that last week until I start getting repeats), 2 of which were holiday'd for 2 years (getting Hereford out of the mix in year one to open up some more of the Premier South teams available).

Going to run a few more between now and release week and try to hit the 50 team mark.

Season 2015/2016

Table / Position Graph / Squad / Finances / Transfers / Manager / Lg. Records (team) / Lg. Records (ind) / Confidence / Reputation / Team Stats

Our first season in the challenge had to be called successful...if only because we exceeded expectations in two out of three competitions. Things were actually going great for 3/4 of the season. With just about 9 matches left to play, we were sitting only three or four points from the playoff spots. Then patch-day hit....and I couldn't win a match! Bad timing --- not enough time to figure out what was wrong and change tactics to compensate, and the last nine matches saw us plummet back down the table to end in 15th. Still, it was respectable.

The star of the season was Dutch striker John Lesley van Engel, who scored 36 goals (30 league), and added 17 assists (13 league), 9 PoM, and had an AvR of 7.39. He was shortlisted for the Player of the Year, and ended 3rd in the league in scoring. Partnering van Engel up front was loanee Ryan Cooke (Northampton), whom I picked up early on loan as I was short a second true striker. He added 34 goals (26 league) and 17 assists (13 league), with an overall AvR of 7.49. Two midfielders also had notable seasons. David Bell, when healthy, was very solid in the midfield, controlling the action well. Unfortunately, he missed a little over 3 months total with injuries...but his 7 assists and AvR of 7.02 will be missed (refuses to discuss contract renewal). At 32 years old, he'll be easy to replace.

One possible replacement is already on the books. Jamie Penny was signed during the preseason, and, at just 16 years old, made an immediate entry into the team. He's a versatile midfielder who will eventually settle in as my starting DM. Through this first season I played him as one of my three MCs, utilizing him in both support and defensive duties. Making 35 starts for the Linnets, he had a solid 8 assists and 7.01 AvR. He also tallied a goal in one of the final matches of the season.

My preferred formation for the season was a 4-1DM-3-2 (narrow), which served well until the disastrous patch changed everything. I'll have to tweak things through the pre-season as I try to figure out what changed. I also used an asymmetric 4-1-4-1 at times to change things up a bit. After the patch, it worked only marginally better than my 4-1DM-3-2. Hopefully I can figure out these new changes in time for a successful season two!

Financially we're doing well. I kept nearly £2K/wk under wage budget, using the players I started with and only bringing in a handful of players (5) throughout the season. I also only utilized the one loan signing. We kept remarkably healthy overall (though at one stage, 3 of my 4 starting midfielders were down injured, though for the most part for relatively short periods--David Bell being the exception at 2 months in that period). With a decent cup run (1st round proper of FA Cup, with a televised replay), we actually made a profit of nearly £90K on the year, and ended with a positive bank balance. Unfortunately, the board can't spare the cash to send me on a coaching course!

.

PROMOTION/PLAYOFFS

Not even close! (That's not entirely true---prior to the patch, I was on pace to challenge for the playoff spots...I just couldn't win post-patch! (I went 2-6-1 post patch)

Cup Competitions

Of the two cup competitions, the FA Cup was always going to be the most interesting---so I'll cut straight to the less interesting FA Trophy. Up against FC United in the first round, we crashed and burned -- though not without some drama. van Engel opened the scoring after five minutes, and the FC United took over for the rest of the half. James Horsfield scored a penalty kick on 25 minutes, before teammate Kaid Mohamed gave FC United the lead on 29 minutes. King's Lynn backup striker then scored two in quick succession (77, 79th minute) to give us the lead. We couldn't hold the lead, however, as Horsfield equalized in the 87th minute. He then popped up deep in stoppage time....very deep...(94th minute) to secure his hattrick and secure the win for FC United. FC United managed 21 shots to our 12, but in all other respects it was a pretty even match. Regardless, we were out. We have the competition to look forward to for at least another couple of years (unfortunately!)

The FA Cup run was much more lucrative. Van Engel secured a hat-trick in a 5-2 win vs Nantwich, and Ryan Cook duplicated his feat in a 3-1 win vs Warrington in the 2QR and 3QR respectively. Our first challenge proved to be Workington, who forced a 0-0 draw at our place. I hoped to snatch a late victory away at their place, but the lads form picked up at just the right time. They weren't having any talk of a loss or draw, and soundly thumped the Reds 5-2 (Cook with 2 goals, van Engel with one). That put us through to the first round proper, where we now faced the daunting task of taking on Carlisle away at Brunton Park. Not the match I would have chosen, but nobody asked me! Thus, on a cool wet day we went to play. Things started miserably, and 11-0 scorelines were dancing in my head as striker Adam Armstrong gave Carlisle the lead inside of one minute. Fortunately, the lads settled down after that, and gave Carlisle a game to remember. Midfielder/Attacker Spriggs scored from the spot in the 37th minute to equalize, and the teams went to the locker room knotted up at one at the half. Carlisle came back out determined to show their superior talent (they ended up outshooting us 23-6), but goalkeeper Timms was solid, and it was King's Lynn, not Carlisle, that broke the tie, with van Engel scoring in the 62 minute to stun the crowd into silence. It was then up to us to battle the onslaught, and battle we did...until Adam Armstrong, once again, netted in the 84th minute to equalize. By this time, more than half of my team were absolutely knackered...but they put up a brave fight, and in the end more than deserved their replay. Timms was a hero, allowing 2 shots past of the 15 shots on target.

Alas, the televised home replay was not nearly as exciting....at least not from our point of view. Carlisle came to our place with a vengeance...and had the game locked up before the half ended. David Amoo scored a hattrick (15, 22, and 39th minute), and Carlisle grabbed a fourth at the 36 minute mark. Ryan Cooke managed to pull one back at the hour mark, but any advantage we might take was swept away as Carlisle put the 5th on the board just 5 minutes later. On paper, it was a much more even match--we enjoyed a better time of possession, but Carlisle outshot us 17-11 -- but their quality of shooting was much better on this rematch, and the scoreline showed it.

Still, we'd come farther than expected, and put up a good fight against a superior team in order to force the rematch. The £35K television prize would be put to good use as well!

Fans Player of the Season: Not surprisingly, John Lesley van Engel was voted Fan of the Year, garnering 52% of the vote. Loanee Ryan Cooke came in second with 36%, and Tony Sinclair trailed behind with 10% of the vote. Engel's 49 appearances, 36 goals, 17 assists, and overall AvR of 7.41 will be tough to beat in the coming years!

Top Academy Graduate:

S1: Robin Watson looks to be someone who will be useful in the coming years. Already potential starter material, the coaches figure that he could be useful late into our Varana Conference campaign.

What's Next?

A decent start to my career, I can only hope to get better. My scouts (all two of them) are starting to find some interesting players---it is a matter of finding someone willing to sign on the dotted line for us! I hope that the decent FA Cup run and the televised match caught some attention (raised rep) to where we can get a couple players in. I've resigned about 60% of my starters from last year, so I have some holes to fill. Academy graduates will be able to take up some of the slack, if only on a part-time basis (3 or 4 looked to have useful roles in the first team on a rotation basis). Looking for another decent cup run to keep the funds/balance positive, and hoping for a push for the playoffs this coming season.

Skelmersdale United

Season Update 18/19

Vanarama Conference

Final Position 9th

Season started great with 3 straight wins - followed by a few losses, draws and more wins - placing us nice and easy on 6th spot and pushing for playoffs most of the season. Then there was a patch. That patch broke us (atleast that's what i want to blame for it) After the patch we had 2 losses, followed by 5 draws, another loss and a draw - before the first win, slowly but steady seeing us climb down the ladder and end the season in 9th place. :(

Cups: The FA Cup saw us almost beat Peterborough at home in the 2nd round. We were up 2-1 and had a goal ruled out in the 78th minute. In the 84th minute they scored and at the rematch we lost 3-1. The FAT saw us exit in the entry round to Scunthorpe, who later won the competition.

Managed to sign a few seemingly looking good defenders, as well as a promising DM - Those players were the only highlight of the season.

Gregg Pearson - DC -

Reece Clark - DC -

Adam Dixon - DM -

Hoping that these can help with alot with defense come next season, as keeper is still very questionable.

This game is still very buggy. I was sacked in mid October, because Hereford board were way too impatient. What I don't like is that the sack came after two consecutive wins, and also squad didn't react at all to recent results, they just kept moaning all the time. I will holiday till the end of the season, and see if there is any chance to get some of the newly promoted clubs, perhaps if manager retires or something.

heh also your game calls the game soccer whereas mine calls it football. Is that localisation for the US ?

Yep, that is the good old US localization. They might as well call it Head Coach 15 over here as that is what it always replaces manager with. The first thing I always do is switch my preferences to English (UK) so as not to drive myself crazy :)

Any tips how to approach scouting hundreds and thousands of free agents? I didn't have assistant manager when news item arrived that clubs in England released their players. When I was mananing Hereford I just scouted all those players.

Dulwich Hamlet - Conference South - 2015/16

First season went OK, could have been better but I kept changing formation and systems trying to get the right blend, took me till around the new year to settle on a system and from then on we looked much much better.

League Table - safe to say wear our issues lay, 99 goals conceded is shocking even accounting for the high scoring bug (had a run of games what went 5-2, 4-5, 9-6, 4-4, 3-3)

FA Trophy - awful performance during my spell of constant changes

FA Cup - better but still not great

Transfers - usual high turnover

Squad - midfield onwards I'm pretty happy

Finances - despite spending most of the season around £500 under wage budget, we lost a lot of money

Key Players

Perry Ryan - signed towards the end of the season to play DMC and we looked much better in his games

Danny Stenning - our set piece specialist

Marcel Henry-Francis - 21 league goals from him

Erhun Oztumer - a Dulwich favourite, was released by Peterborough and we picked him up after the season started, really found his form once I settled on a system

Jerome Walker - a great return this season from the winger

Darren1983 -not a bad first season, 99 goals is nothing my team conceded over 100 in the first 2 seasons.

Your midfielders look very strong esp Ryan. Best way to improve the defence is sign better defenders, yours look very weak although your midfielders could be making them look worse than they are if they have very high ability.

Sadly I think my defenders are just poor, my mission for the summer is to bring in better.

Does anyone else think, their "fix" for the goal scoring in lower leagues, was replaced with alot of dissalowed goals?

And penalties and the return of the super keeper :D

There is a lot of disallowed goals and always very late in being given.

My defence is the same as the last 2 years but they are doing much better. They have improved a lot (from 2 to 3.5 stars) but i also changed the midfielders duties to tighten up so the goals have dropped as well.

Now that you mention it you may be right. Think I may start again as I was sitting in first spot and with the update the goals completely dried up and I dropped to 7th within about a month. Doesn't feel right to be playing basically two different games in the same save.

I do think the defending has improved in the ME though and the strikers are not as clinical which makes it feel more realistic.

So, back to holidaying for a new team. Thinking maybe Canvey Island.
