I'd say it's OK and certainly fine for 2D match engine.

There's not much between the top 2  - the 3rd one being excellent for FM too - it's just the other 2 are better. Consider your needs - weight, portability, desktop replacement, better graphics card, less storage/more storage. Consider you can't upgrade the graphics card later (usually) - but you can upgrade the SSD and RAM. 

If it was me - I'd go with the 1st one because I don't need portability - the graphics card is better, and I can upgrade the RAM.

The difference in 1st and 2nd processor is neglible - you wouldn't notice the difference really.

Just in terms of processor information - the numbers and performance are close to each other - I'd rule out the i5

Stick with the i7 or the AMD - it's a toss up for me - both have pros and cons outside of FM.

If you want a better graphics card go for the 1st one - but comes with extra weight which might impact portablity
2nd one has a slightly lesser graphics card - and less weight - graphics card is fine for FM - and might be a bit more portable

For general tasks like web browsing, streaming, and office applications, the differences might feel negligible, especially between the i7-13620H and Ryzen 7 7735HS. The i5-12450H, while less powerful, would still handle these tasks well.

If you're doing more demanding work, like video editing, programming, or gaming, the difference becomes more noticeable. In these cases, the i7-13620H would provide smoother performance, especially under heavy multitasking or high workloads.

Summary:

Intel Core i7-13620H leads in overall performance with a CPU Mark of 25,135, followed closely by the AMD Ryzen 7 7735HS at 24,094. The Intel Core i5-12450H lags behind with a CPU Mark of 17,056.

Single Thread Performance
Despite having fewer cores, the Intel Core i5-12450H and Intel Core i7-13620H have higher single-thread performance ratings (3388 and 3682, respectively) compared to the AMD Ryzen 7 7735HS (3355).

Power Consumption (TDP)
The AMD Ryzen 7 7735HS has the highest TDP at 54W, which means it may consume more power and generate more heat compared to the Intel CPUs, both rated at 45W.

Cache Size
Intel Core i7-13620H has the largest cache size (9.5MB L2 + 24MB L3), which generally contributes to better performance in multitasking and data-heavy applications.

Basically
If you're looking for the best overall performance, the Intel Core i7-13620H is the strongest choice. However, if you prefer a balance between power and efficiency, the AMD Ryzen 7 7735HS is also an excellent option. The Intel Core i5-12450H might be a good choice for budget-conscious users who still want decent performance.

Hard to know - depends on what you're doing on your computer. 

There's tutorials how to do it - it's pretty straightforward - some laptops will be easy to access others won't.

Or you could buy an external drive. 

I had a wireless external drive before that worked really well - stuck beside the router and plugged it in and set it up as an external drive on the laptop. Just meant couldn't access the data if not near it. But you can bring them with you and connect via hotspot etc. , so just putting it in your bag when going mobile.

I had this laptop for 8 years and still works great for me.

128gb as my installed OS drive - which is fine on the SSD

I have a 1tb normal hard drive (not SSD)

Adobe software installed takes up a lot of space and I do graphic design and other things.

I'd avoid the second one as there have ben widespread reports of a high failure rate of 13th and 14th gen Intel CPUs.

Hi, I am looking at getting a new laptop with FM 25 on the way and changing needs for work etc. Whilst I realise it is a bit soon without any idea of FM25 specs etc would really appreciate some feedback as been looking at this Macbook:

The Apple M chips have always performed really well in benchmark tests, so it's very likely to be absolutely fine for FM, assuming FM remains available for MacOS and doesn't go Windows only with FM25.  For what it's worth, I don't imagine this will happen.

The graphical side of the game remains unknown, but again the Apple CPUs have had really capable iGPUs, so I'd be hopeful it'd be fine for FM25 too, even if not at the highest settings but until system requirements are announced it's not possible to say for sure.

If you can though, I would suggest holding off until system requirements are announced by SI because £2k is a lot to be spending when we don't have concrete info from SI yet.

For Football Manager, the Intel Core Ultra 7 155H offers better overall performance, especially for multitasking due to more cores/threads. However, the Apple M3 might deliver smoother single-thread tasks and better efficiency on macOS.

 

However, the Mac is fine and well capable 
I mean I put together a computer for HALF the price that would be technically better.

It's up to you - if you spend more money on a PC laptop you might get even better performance. 

I don't want to put you off - and think you'll be happy with the Mac for FM.

But if you're looking to save money and have a better laptop overall - it's something to consider.

I think it's too much money and you get better for less and still achieve portability.

Up to you. There's really not that much difference in Mac and Windows. If you've never used it before then there will be a learning curve of course. 

If it's just for FM it's a bit much.

My Mac M3 is heavy enough - over 2kg anyway - just weighed it for curiosity.

I couldn't possibly know the specs for FM25 - as you can imagine it's difficult to say. 

However, the M3, the 155H and the I9 14900HX - are all well capable of the current FM.

The higher the score the better. Generally the higher it is on Notebook Check https://www.notebookcheck.net/Mobile-Processors-Benchmark-List.2436.0.html the better. 

 

Honestly, in the PC i9 14900HX I picked the 1TB Samsung drive.

On the MacBook - check the price for changing it to 1TB - I think it's a disgrace the pricing it jumps from £1,949.00 to £2,300!!!

Again - if you're happy with the Mac then go for it - it's a fine enough computer for FM. 

I  understand the ease of purchase - but the price does not match the specs (what you get under the hood).

Again - it's completely up to you.

You can email PC Specialists and ask them with the Spec what is the overall weight of the laptop. 
They are extremely helpful .

 

Can I ask why you're buying through Currys and not directly from Apple?

In terms of processing FM24, absolutely fine.  You may need to fiddle with the graphics settings as it may not manage ultra settings, but will definitely be fine for at least medium settings on FM24.

Yes.

We can't comment on how many leagues to run, but it's a high spec machine with an excellent CPU and graphics card.

I need something new, up to €800, that is good enough to run FM smoothly.
I don't play anything else besides FM. So, the laptop will be just for remote work (via Global Protect) and FM.

What kind of specifications should I be looking for? CPU? Graphics card?

I think you've already got the minimum setup, it's about what I use and I don't intend to buy another laptop. Obviously a new laptop is nice to have so I'm not trying to put you off. But perhaps a complete re-install, perhaps an up to date SSD drive might be worth giving a try. If it delays just for 6 month or a year it'll be worth because you'll not only get better again for £800 but also you'll know the specs and the situation is FM25. I find cleaning out my laptop once a year makes a big difference to performance but also on these older laptops the video upgraids can have an adverse impact on performance.

Hello all, 

 

Looking on buying a laptop just for FM never played it before and looking on giving it a go as a few friends are addictive and have nothing but positive things to say about the game. I’ve never owned a laptop and don’t really understand what is needed for a good laptop could someone please point me in the right direction and suggest a laptop please. Preferably from curry’s/PC World. Thanks for your help.

Currently looking for a Very cheap laptop for a friend, they don't play games but want something decent that will last. Had a few looking for cheap laptops on this thread I noticed so I thought I would pop this amazon find in and ask what people think of it as a basic Fm24 laptop - considering its £300 would it help some people out?

I have a laptop with the same CPU.  Although I don't use it for FM, I have at least given it a go and it's surprisingly solid.  I had to turn the graphics down a notch (medium settings seemed to give a stable framerate), but for the price especially it's decent.

Well that's all I wanted really thanks. These a business quality so, as I've said the past, retail & business with dell are like chalk & cheese. Should be solid machines for a few years yet. So is anyone in the market for that level of FM24 play there ya go, these are 100% better than a flaky acer or other cheap brand. I think if you run a booster app before starting the game you'll see 20% increase.

I am currently playing FM24 on a MacBook Pro M1 13‘’ and it runs perfectly. The MacBook Air M3 is currently on sale in Germany and as my wife and I currently share the MacBook, I am thinking of buying the MacBook Air M3 15' as I would like to have a bigger screen (I know there are cheaper options but I am only interested in a Mac). 

Does anyone play FM on the MacBook Air M3 15" and can confirm that there are no issues with the lack of a cooling fan in the MacBook Air? Also for the 15" screen, I would like to know if I would be able to play FM at a normal resolution. Right now I can more or less only use the low-res skins, or at least I'm always missing parts of the screen compared to the ‘full’ screen on a typical computer monitor.

Can't help on the first point as I've not used a Mac.

Looking at the specs, it seems the current Macbook Air models use somewhat unorthodox resolutions of 2560x1664 on the 13" M1 version and 2880x1864 on the 15", which comes to 1.54:1 and 1.55:1 respectively in terms of aspect ratio - most skins will be set up for a 16:9 aspect ratio and this is likely what's causing the issues you're seeing with the skins.  I imagine for the game to display everything correctly, you'd probably need skins set up specifically with these resolutions in mind.  Not sure if there is any.

Lovely looking laptop. Outstanding processor imo. Sleek, lightweight, runs very cool and reasonably quiet with touchscreen and some trackpad features I have never come across before - and handles FM very, very well.

Lacks a graphics card, but as a 2D player - I honestly don't think I need one.

It'll be ok for FM24 - probably not at max graphics settings though.

No idea on FM25 as yet, as we're still waiting for SI to give an indication of system requirements.
