The top flight awaits! Season Details League Table - We were top from the start and never looked back. Losing just once was astonishing. League Fixtures 1 & 2 - Long unbeaten runs enabled the promotion, the second in a row, a mere formality. DFB-Pokal - A disappointing performance at home to top flight SpVgg Greuther Fürth eliminated the club at the second round stage. Pre Season Friendlies - Three defeats in our ten games represented a mixed bag of results. Squad - A decent squad, it still needs some serious injection of quality. Squad Dynamics - It is lovely isn't it? Transfers In 1 & 2 - The club transfer record was matched, though the majority of new arrivals were either signed on a free transfer or on loan. Transfers Out - Over £3m was raised in player sales, including a club record sale. Youth Candidates - A good intake without any real stars. Some real depth here though. Central defender Robin Kretschmer YP25B15 looks like the best prospect this year. Finances - With the league monies arriving, we have a healthy bank balance. This is only going to improve in the top flight. Key Players Quintino - Brazilian left winger whose performances dropped off after the transfer window, when I rejected bids from top flight clubs. Youssouf Koné - The left back is an international from Mali and had a great first season in Germany. Sebastian Storskov - The club record signing has come into his own, despite still being a teenager. Playing at centre half, he was immense. Dane Scarlett - Our very reliable striker, on loan from Tottenham Hotspur. He scores plenty and has agreed another year's extension with the club. Alfie Devine - Central midfielder also signed from Tottenham Hotspur for the season. Like Scarlett, he has agreed to another year in Germany. Next Season Survival. Anything else is a bonus. _JHTB_ Posted January 24, 2022 Share Posted January 24, 2022 Donegal Celtic Season 15 – Danske Bank Premier League – 1st Transfers – Best XI – Squad – Key Player – Hot Prospect Overview Transfer Window: Incomings: The board wanted me to spend all my budget at the start of the season which I was unable to do, but I did give it a good shot. We brought in a couple of players to improve the overall depth of the central midfield Borre and Vallejo both signing for similar fees prior to the league reset. There were also a few players brought in for the future and I spent £2.3m (which is actually our current transfer record) on Diego Pedro who was only ever in as a back up player – though he is still young so could help us out going forward. The summer also saw us bring in Grobler to add more depth to the defense. Following the end of a long term loan signing up front we spent 775k on Jacko who isn’t sensational, but is still a very decent striker, especially for the outlay. I was happy with my squad so didn’t really make any major signings in January. I agreed to sign Munoz at the end of his contract which I think is a really good signing. The only other outlay in January was to bring in a back up goalkeeper in Molina. He’s not likely to ever play for us but is an ok player I think. Outgoings: We sold several fringe players this summer, not really for anything major, the highest fee being Javier who’d never played for us as we never secured a work permit for him. The most notable out was Watson, he still holds the record for the most league goals scored in a season with 40, but unfortunately for him we have outgrown him. Europe: In the qualifying for the Champions League we didn’t have massive victories, but we still managed to secure Champions League Group stages without any real issues. Our reward was a pretty horrendous group, Manchester City, who were off the back of winning their 10th premier league in a row, Borussia Dortmund and Atalanta. Atalanta I was ok with as we had bested them last season in the Europa League but still a tough group. In the end it was Atalanta who we beat twice to secure 6 points with us losing both times to Man City and Dortmund as we finished 3rd. We got a tough draw in the Europa League facing Ajax in the first knockout round. We did manage to keep them to a 0-0 at the Johan Cruijff ArenA which gave me the belief we could better them at home, and we did, albeit only a 1-0 victory to show. Our reward for winning the hard fought draw however, was AC Milan. They were just better than us really, beating us in both legs to see us have our worse European showing for a few years. It was exacerbated by the two nations above us in the coefficient table having better years than us so we made no progress there in spite of us having a slightly better year than the one that we lost. League: It’s a weird one, this season we never looked like slipping up in any of our games but we felt a little lacklustre at times though to be fair we did still score 150 goals I just felt we were playing within ourselves too often. The league doesn’t really matter too much at this point though only to try and hope the other teams are strengthening (doesn’t look like it too much yet unfortunately). Another 38 wins from 38 this season and we’re edging towards 100 matches won in a row in the league (81) which is mental really. Cup: Much like the league the cups don’t really trouble us we’ve now won the League Cup 4 seasons on the bounce and 6 of the last 7 seasons, the County Antrim Shield also 4 on the spin to make it 9 of the last 11 seasons. This also makes it 6 seasons on the spin for us in the Irish Cup meaning we haven’t lost a game in this competition since we first won it. We exacted our revenge on Shamrock Rovers in the All Ireland Champions League too, I’m still unsure what caused us so many problems against them last season, but this time round we comfortably dispatched them. Next Season I’m actually really happy with my squad, the issue arises from us being still low reputation so player values are underplayed and we get players being upset at not being sold for less than half what I paid for them 12 months prior. The oldest regular player is 23 with the oldest of the back ups being 26, so we have youth on our side with most players still having good potential. This season I had 3 or 4 players for any position (including the players who could cover multiple) and I had no qualms rotating between them through the season. The only position that had limited depth was Goalkeeper, so this is one area where I will be looking to strengthen. I may look to recycle some fringe players but as it stands I’m aiming for a quiet window on the first team incomings aside from in goal – though of course, if the right player comes up I’m sure to pounce. I’ve managed to persuade the board to expand our stadium, but we’re only expanding by 200 seats to around 2000 seats (not that we’re filling it yet in the league). Players of note Rhys Guppy – A ‘poor’ season from Guppy, he got upset that I didn’t sell him to Sheffield United this summer (they’d offered like £2m) which I think effected his performances, but he was still incredible for us; pretty much a goal a game in the league. But 17 of his 29 were penalties so a definite downturn I feel. Chris Gorman – On the opposite wing to Guppy we had Gorman who had a very good second season at the club. Not close to Guppy numbers but very good numbers nonetheless. He was another that we were fielding bids for in the transfer windows. Jozef Jacko – He came in and did the job I hoped he would, scored plenty of goals in all competitions although his output was too close to his expected goals for my liking. (For some reason I want my strikers to be far exceeding his xG even if that’s counterintuitive to the stat as a whole) Youth Watch Ross Kavanagh – Another season of providing depth to the squad and doing a decent enough job of it. He may find himself further down the pecking order next season though as Munoz who joined in January does the same role but better. Matt Harbison – He looked really good when he played for us this season and has propelled himself into my first choice back up at defensive midfield. According to the scouts he doesn’t have much potential to be too much better than he is currently but he is a useful player for sure. Ryan Power – Arguably I should be giving Power more game time as he’s not terribly worse than Jacko, but worse he is, so I can’t really justify playing a worse player in the role. He’s not throwing up too much fuss so I’m hoping I can keep him as a fringe player to prevent me having to bring in someone to take that spot. What wage budget do you have for going up? Great loans you have there too, that's they key in the beginning isn't it! @_JHTB_I feel your pain about players being annoyed at not being sold for a pittance, had a similar issue in my bulgarian save last year, paying say £6m for someone, then a year later being offered £4.8m despite them being better and them being annoyed it not being accepted, they need to fix the AI and player expectations, too many times someone falls out with you for a stupid reason. I know stupid stuff happens in football with players/agents, but that side of it annoys me. And the team meetings, offending a whole dressing room when you say "i believe we can stay up this year!", its stupid. Can you imagine Gorman and Guppy if you did sell them a premiership club, their value would be £30m increase overnight, if you ever do sell them you need to squeeze in the 50% of next fee! Squad - An excellent squad, though I need more depth to compete on three fronts. Squad Dynamics - As lovely as you would expect. Transfers In 1 & 2 - I broke the club record three times as some much needed quality arrived at the club. Transfers Out - Close to £10m was raised in player sales as fringe players and youngsters were moved on. Youth Candidates - Striker Pawel Czajka YP26A26 is the best prospect out of a fairly ordinary intake. Finances - It shows we are in the red, but the Bundesliga monies haven't come in yet and we will receive over £70m. Key Players Sebastian Storskov - Now officially regarded as a wonderkid, the Danish international defender continues to improve. Sébastien Corchia - Veteran former French international right back signed on a free transfer from Nantes and was exceptional. José Fernando Ramos - Another wonderkid, the Colombian international is arguably our best player. Dane Scarlett - He is an absolute goal machine. He will be a huge loss when he returns to his parent club. Alfie Devine - Our second loanee from Tottenham Hotspur had another stellar year. Next Season I fear it will be a real challenge as we compete on three fronts. The key will be playing well after our European matches. They got a Tycoon takeover so are among the favourites for the Premier League (in spite of not being close to win it ever), but the last 3 or 4 windows they're the only team that unsettle my players, don't really understand why they're not unsettled by Inter or Chelsea or other teams that do actually win league titles in their respective divisions. 3 hours ago, DazRTaylor said: An extraordinary season where we somehow finished fourth and qualified for the Champions League. If past iterations of this challenge were to be believed, it would be the first season where I'd struggle seriously with fixture congestion and the league performance would suffer as a result. I got bit by that in the last two years, so this time around ,I decided not to be fooled a third time and to be more active in the transfer market... Transfers Turns out that the players I could find were not miles better than the ones I had, and the ones which were slightly better were taking the place of Turkish players, which would just aggravate the problem that were were having with the homegrown situation... It was thus a surprisingly calm transfer season... Révélation Coming in to the club are Faruk Sari, on a free loan from Trabzonspor, snatched at the deadline, and he would become our first choice right-winger, thanks to this insane physical ability (16 accelaration, 16 pace, 19 agility, 16 dribbling). Trabzonspor wants actual money for him next year, I'm debating whether I should keep him around or not, given that his replacement is actually coming next summer. I also smashed the transfer record for Bekir Konyali, after Dejan Risjteski tore his achilles and was out 4-6 months. He's 18, he's Turkish and he stepped right in the first team. What's not to love...? In the OUT column, we find Sebastian Ramirez, who fell behind as a 4th choice striker and was still holding up to a foreign spot, which didn't make sense. He got mad after not playing and got moved for 1.4M€. A bit of a shame that he didn't realize the potential that I saw in him, but it's still an OK profit, but returned to Colombia. Young Togolese Kokou Ouro-Nimini (who I had bought partly because of his name) didn't develop as I would have hoped too and got to Koacelispor, playing as a sub in the worse SuperLeague team in history. Finally, Antoine Semenyo, a creative force in the right wing, attracted interest from Fulham, so off he went for 625k€, which is ok after a hard injury (and that leaves out a foreign spot too). European Cup II Finishing 5th, we qualified for the ECII Second Qualifying Playoff, which went pretty well, beating Lokomotivi Tbilissi easily. A tough draw was waiting for us, in the form of AZ Alkmaar. I knew that it was hard, losing 1-0 in the Netherlands, but playing a near perfect match in the return leg and dominating AZ 3-0. Kazakhstan was waiting for us. The boys were tired after a long flight, didn't play well and we were held to a bad 0-0 draw. The return leg was played much better, but it was still a pretty hard match and we squeezed in a 1-0 win. And with that, we were moving on to the group stage. In the group, we were drawn against Leicester, Sparta Prague and Malmö. Obviously, Lecicester was higher quality than the rest, but we were able to hold them for most of the game when we were in the UK, but the next week, we played brilliantly and we got a historic 2-1 win. We held off the rest, lost 4-2 agains Sparta, but qualified in second place in the group, with much joy. Révélation In the first knockout round, we were drawn against Molde, from Norway's top flight. They came to Fethiye, but I don't know if they had thawed from their great northern country and were completely wiped off. A first leg win of 8-0 was a joy to behold, allowing us to play a somewhat rotated squad on the return leg too. Révélation At this point, we might wonder... Who needs a backup goalkeeper? That was precisely what I thought in the offseason when my current backup (and ex first-choice) Husein Koç wanted out and was sold to a lower league side for 70k€. Well, it turns out that he could have been on use that year because John Rivera tweaked his ankle just before the next round and was out for 2-3 weeks. In that round, we luckily drew against Apol. Limassol, from Cyprus, who was the smallest club in the competition at that point. Without a keeper (our youth prospects were on youth contracts and could not be signed in time), we lost 1-3 at home in a very bad showing. On the return leg, Rivera was 5 days from a full return, but played regardless. We went all out and the Cypriots took a red card in the second minute. We pushed even harder, scoring two goals to make the score level and they took a second red card. Straight up red cards on bad tackles too...! We then gave it all out, but couldn't score by the end of the match, hitting the woodwork 3 times in the last 10 minutes. They also weathered the storm in extra time and it was decided on penalties. It took 9 rounds, and a miss from our star defender Nico Lippold to have us kicked out of the competition. Bummer. I'll carry a backup goalkeeper around in the future. Révélation Révélation Interestingly, the whole competition was won by Trabzonspor, who has been struggling in the league for the whole year. They will be automatically qualifying for the EURO Cup next year, giving us one more european spot than we would have normally, which will be nice for the standing of Turkish football as a whole. Turkish Super League Our league form started out really bad (again!) with a couple of bad defeats while we were in the middle of the EURO Cup II qualifying rounds, but we rallied brilliantly after that when the team got some cohesion and it was a quite successful season. We steadily rose in the table to finish a comfortable 4th, again improving upon last year's position. This also means that we get to qualify for the EURO Cup II Third Qualifying Round along with a 2M€ prize money for our league position. Révélation Interesting to note in the league is the showing of Kocaelispor. Tipped at 2000-1 at the start of the season, they got hopelessly beaten and conceded an astounding 123 goals in 34 matches, for a nice -94 deficit. The previous all-time record in the SuperLeague was 95 goals conceded... They somehow salvaged two draws... The Team Again rocking the asymmetric 4-3-1-2 formation which has been working well for us. It creates an overload on the right and leaves the left wing open for runs from the midfield and the other winger for a very good results. Note also a very healthy rotation up front, with Hilterman, Grisales and Salman scoring close to 20 goals each. Individual highlights Jair Grisales - AMC/ST - 19 goals, 6 assists, 4 PoM, 7.06 avg. rating Our most promising striker, according to our staff, with lots of room to grow. Quite disruptive in the opposition defence, he deserves that place alone for the best goal I've seen in FM in a long time (a few posts up from this one). Révélation Jeredy Hilterman - ST - 22 goals, 10 assists, 10 PoM, 7.43 avg. rating. On paper, he was our striker who posted the best stats, often coming in as a super sub in the league. He will be in the last year of his contract next year and is turning 32, but hasn't yet shown signs of falling off, so I'll see if he could entertain a small extension. He has developed this year the Shoots from distance trait, which will come in handy with his 20 Long Shot ability... Révélation For the Future Got a few good prospects down the line, some of them are already breaking in the first team... Ozgür Breke and Ender Ak (18 and 17 years old, respectively) came in as rotation options in the defence, maintaining an average rating of over 7, which is pretty promising at their age! Révélation Révélation Regarding our youth intake, we also have a very good one this year, with Harun Açil and Gürcan Özdemir already close to the first team according to the coaches...! Not sure yet how I should develop this guy, but he has a brilliant future in front of him for sure! Révélation Other News - Our facilities have been improved quite a lot this year, reinvesting quite a bit of the money in there. - This guy is coming over on an end of contract from Chelsea next year. I was thinking the other day, i think it was like FM17 the last time I needed a sub keeper. I have honestly played about 4 iterations of FM with a combined probably 300 seasons or something and never needed a sub keeper. those two CB's are great (the 17 year old especially), and that youth prospect looks insane - although his physicals may hold him back, but he has everything else you could possibly want, he looks like a number 10 Trequartista type role, no defensive responsibility, just let him wander and do what he wants. He's a good player for us but that's moon money for how good he actually is. That didn't stop me negotiating them up and getting £28.5m for him. Oh absolutely, the main issue was that it was on deadline day so didn't have time to find the correct replacement. Jacko himself only cost us £775k last season and whilst he scored a lot of goals last season, he wasn't massively out performing his xG which I feel like the really good strikers usually do and to be honest, I'd have sold him earlier in the window for £5m so no chance I could turn down 5 times as much (even if it were a bit risky negotiating as they could have just withdrew the offer) 1 Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...

Britrock Posted January 29, 2022 Share Posted January 29, 2022 Hyeres 83 FC - 2029/30 season review After going straight back down last time we were in Ligue 2 I was a little bit worried what would happen this time. I thought we were a better team and I had an idea of what tactics I could use that would give us a better chance to succeed and succeed we did! We peaked at 6th and were in the promotion playoffs race near the end of the season but we fell away late on when we had to play a lot of the teams above us in the last couple of months and ended up in 10th. We were only predicted to fight bravely against relegation so the board were ecstatic with the performance. We played a counter attacking 352, sitting back without much possession and playing very direct when we did have the ball. We ended the year with 38% possession, 7% less than the next lowest team, but still ended with the 9th most goals. Defensively we were miles ahead (behind?) on a variety of stats - clearances, headers won, blocks - but were only the 14th worst defence in terms of goals conceded. So we spent a lot of time under pressure but did fairly well coping with it. With our salary per annum being almost half of that of the team in 19th place we kinda had to accept that we were underdogs in nigh on every game, soak up pressure and attack as quickly as possible. Spoiler Star player yet again was Ibrahima Sow. He banged in 20 goals and ended up second top goalscorer in the league. He's not the fastest guy, but as an advanced forward he was constantly on the end of through balls and racked up 148 shots through the year. Idris Odutayo was our star signing, starring at left wing back after a nomadic career at Fulham, Port Vale and Rotherham. Unfortunately he seems a little injury prone with pitiful natural fitness and stamina They were the only two players to average over 7, although I was impressed with Michael Frimpong in goal who came in on loan from Lens. I have a feeling his avg rating was bumped down because he was always lumping the ball long from kickoffs and so only ended with a 46% pass completion ratio. He had an 81% shots saved ratio (5th) and an expected goals prevented of 9.14,which led the league. I'll try to get him back next year or maybe even on a permanent deal but I don't hold out too much hope on that one! Spoiler Financially we're actually in the black for the first time ever! Sure, the board have injected ~£3m over the last two years, but we're now getting actual TV money (£4.4m) and people are turning up to watch the games so the gate receipts will hopefully start to creep up as well (1485 avg attendance this year). aldojags Posted January 30, 2022 Share Posted January 30, 2022 (edited) Season Review 2029/30 League Table | Fixtures 1 & 2 | Facilities | Finances | Transfers | Club Vision | Manager Profile A fantastic season, where I just decided after a few seasons of trying to find a balanced system and not really getting anywhere, to go full balls to the wall ultra aggressive gegenpress, and it propelled us to 4th place, an agonising 6 points off the title, and for the first time in the save, we are in Europe, in the Champions League group stages (due to Germany's co-efficient, we don't need to qualify although we'll be a 4th seed I imagine!). Had a 4-2-4 most of the season, most aggressive press and defensive line you can get, just went into every game attacking and pressing, and it worked more often than it didn't. I know I'm not revealing any new secrets about fm here, gegenpress is the most popular style of play I'm sure, but i didn't think i had players for it, but managed to make it work! And after years of calamitous defending since I won promotion, I got 15 clean sheets in the league, which is insane! Of note, I beat Bayern for the first time in the save on the last day of the season, which handed the title to RB Leipzig. It's a shame I'll have the CL to deal with next year, I honestly feel with the rhythm I've found, I could have won the league next season, but the champions league is going to be too much of a distraction! But a welcome one! Team Main players I used were Gk: Seydou Kouado-Tessie - young Ivorian took over from my old Polish international Beilica, he looks great, happy to run with him as long as it takes. RB: Taylor Harwood Bellis - free transfer from Chelsea, on a free. I originally had him signed for CB, but my other CB's were too good to leave out so I accomodated him at right back, at the expense of home grown youth Oliver Ganz - who still plays from time to time. CB: 2 main CB's were Santiago Aguilera, signed on a free, and Christian De La Rosa, signed for £6m from Mexico, both look great I'm sure you'll agree! LB: My first choice is Alain Escudero, but Andrew Harrington played a lot too. CM: 3 main players for these 2 spots - pretty much every present Warren Bondo, Kevin Meissner, who is a home grown youth (showing for wonderkid for most the season, although I think he's regressed a wee bit), although he did win German U-19 player of the year, and Andi Zeneli - who is the disappointment of the save so far, paid Brondby a fortune for him few seasons ago and he's been rubbish - going to take a huge loss on him. Don't understand it, look at his attributes! AML: Andres Fonseca - most assists in league, Won a few awards, is the real deal I think! Having trouble getting him to agree to getting rid of his rather measly release clause (£13m) so I could be in for a sore one when a bigger club comes knocking. AMR: Athony Mintah - signed on a free from Arsenal, was excellent. ST: Player of the year, and European golden boot - Miguel Angel Lomonaco. Unstoppable. And supporting him I had a few separate guys, no-one really stood out, best were our 2 youth prospects, firstly Leandro Allhelig, and 2nd was Sebastien Denniger, both of them did well. Also worth mentioning Signorelli, not because he did anything, he done his knee minute i signed him and only came back at end of season, but aatributes wise he looks insane, Lomonaco v2.0? I hope so! Youth Intake Preview | Intake Day Got a decent preview, no-one jumps off the page as likely to start soon, but a few here who have a real chance. Have a few come through the ranks over the years that are reasonably decent, have maxed out infrastructure, so hoping the youth academy keeps me going. Some of the better players signed this year - Herm, Cullmann, Bolz (my personal favourite) Birkenstock, A few previous academy graduates made first team appearances this season, some of the better ones... Ron Bernsdorff, Tim Maier And we had a clean sweep of the German U-17 player of the year, with the top 3 all playing for us. Also encouraging was our U-19 team winning their league, we do have some good players coming through, not sure I want to go down the road of just spending money now we are champions league, like the idea of using kids to bulk out the squad, but ultimate aim of challenge is to win it all, quickest way of doing that is raiding south america, but more satisfying to rear your own! Had 3 players in the top 50 wonderkid list, 2 of them home grown too (Meissner and Ganz). Next Season Board just want midtable in the league, and group stages be competitive in Champions league, reckon I can do that, and just need to further develop the squad and some good recruitment along the way! Season Details League Table - It took a while, but once we went top, we never looked back. League Fixtures 1 & 2 - We had a slow start as the players tried to gel as a group, but we soon found our feet and ran away with it. Scottish Cup - A good run where we landed a plum fourth round draw away to giants Rangers. We may have been hammered, but the bank manager didn't mind. Premier Sports Cup - We gave a good account of ourselves by finishing third in our group, though this did eliminate the club from the competition. SPFL Trust Trophy - Dundee Under 21's proved to be too strong as we went out at the first time of asking, in the first round. Pre Season Friendlies - We only played two meaningful games and we lost both of them. Squad - We are good enough to challenge again I feel, such is the quality in the squad. Squad Dynamics - Considering the squad overhaul, this is lovely. Transfers In 1 & 2 - A whole raft of free transfers and loans came in as we revolutionised the squad. Transfers Out - Fringe players and those I deemed not good enough left. Youth Candidates - Goalkeeper Andrew Aitchison YP23A1 is the best prospect out of a pretty decent group. Finances - We made a small profit, thanks to the lucrative cup run. Key Players Tom Grivosti - Our best signing this season. The centre back was an absolute rock. Hayden Lindley - At home in either central defence or as the anchor man in midfield, he was an automatic selection. Joe White - Midfielder signed on a free transfer from Newcastle. Had a great campaign. Jezreel Davies - Nigerian Under 20 international who had a fantastic season in central midfield. Alex Cooper - Veteran left back brought in to add some experience to the back four. Next Season We are good enough for at least a playoff spot but I feel we can win the league and go up to the second tier. Andrew Haines Posted January 31, 2022 Share Posted January 31, 2022 Austria Salzburg Admiral 2.Liga – 2022/23 – 8th Squad Transfers Overview A season of two halves really in our first season in the Austrian second tier. In the first half of the season we were poor and struggled. We went into the (frankly ludicrously long) winter break just outside the relegation zone. Two wins in the first 14 games saw us struggling with performances not being great. A couple of decent signings in January in winger Cheikhou Diang and playmaker Daniel Berntsen saw our form turn around. We won 8 of the final 14 games which propelled us up the table into a final position of 8th, well clear of the relegation zone. I’m hoping we will be able to recruit well in the summer. It will depend on player availability and interest at the end of the day. Some good signings and we might well be aiming at the top spots.. although with only one promotion spot available that will be difficult. Key Players Cheikhou Dieng – The Senegalese forward scored 6 goals in 13 games from the wing having arrived in January. Daniel Berntsen – Another January signing, the Danish playmaker contributed six assists in the run in. Yeah I am finding Scotland relatively straight forward so far. I am in February and top of the league, unbeaten and only drawn three games. I know it gets harder from the Championship, but so far it is not a challenge at all (domestically anyway). I did splash the cash on one youngster I found playing in England non league. Spent £55,000 on him only for my chairman to sell him six months later over my head for £85,000. At least we got a 40% sell on clause. Full details tomorrow when I complete the second season. _JHTB_ Posted February 1, 2022 Share Posted February 1, 2022 (edited) Donegal Celtic Season 16 – Danske Bank Premier League – 1st Transfers – Best XI – Squad – Key Player – Hot Prospect Overview Transfer Window: Incomings: I was happy with my squad coming into this summer, as such I really didn’t sign all too many players. Paulo Jose and Gilberto were the major outlays as they both made their loan signings permanent for £2.1m and £2.5m respectively. They’re useful squad players and had been on loan for 6 seasons they were pretty much already our players. Akrour was the other major signing of the summer as he joined on a free transfer from Brest to be our new number one. He was considered a wonderkid when we signed him, I’m very happy with this as a free transfer. The only other incomings were a couple of loans that were panic cover for the big outgoing. Outgoings: A club record sale this summer completely smashing everything that came before as Bournemouth paid £28.5m for Jacko on deadline day, he’d had an ok start to the season, but that is money I couldn’t turn down. The other notable outlays were Luz, who we’d signed on a free seven seasons prior, for £1.6m and Trabelisi, who had been a mainstay for the previous 8 seasons, for £1.3m. Both were useful players for us, but at this point were only fringe players as the overall calibre of the squad has improved. Europe: Pretty comfortable qualifying campaign to get to the group stages of the Champions League. However, we did end up losing one of our matches against Valur which is a bit disappointing. We got great draw luck this year as we faced Ajax, Valencia and Galatasaray. I was pretty confident that we would be able to progress through the group to reach the Champions League knockouts for the first time, but we absolutely smashed it, comfortably dispatching every team home and away. Yet more good draw luck as we avoided Europe’s elite instead facing Celtic. Celtic were a team we have faced in Europe before as 3 seasons ago they knocked us out of the Europa League in the semi-final. We got our revenge this time out, an away draw at Celtic Park before we recorded a comfortable 4-1 victory at home. This rewarded us with a tie against Borussia Dortmund, this is where we made our final bow, Dortmund are just man for man better than us currently they beat us home and away to see us out but a great showing accruing useful coefficient points. League: After 15 games this season we found ourselves in 2nd place (though with a game in hand) as Linfield had won 15 of their 16 games. In fact, by the time of our second match against Linfield we were only 2 points clear. Eventually they did make a downturn in form and we continued to win every game domestically – we’ve won 119 games in a row in the league at this point which is pretty crazy. Cup: League Cup, Antrim Shield, Irish Cup and the All Ireland Champions League all retained. No real issues here expectedly. Next Season/General We’re at a point now where any player who is interested in us and will improve us will cost too much in transfer fee and want over £50k p/w (our highest earner is currently on 17k) so I might need to do a deep dive this summer to try and bring in some cheap players with potential. I’m happy with my squad really so happy to play the waiting game whilst we continue our reputation growth. Last season our stadium expansion was cancelled so hopefully this time it will actually get expanded, even if it’s still well below the requirements for Europe. I expect another summer window where we’ve constantly got 30 offers in for our players also as they are all dreadfully undervalued by the game. Our European exploits this season allowed us to improve Northern Ireland to 15th in the coefficients table which is huge as it massively improves the qualification places available to the country. Players of note Rhys Guppy – I’m sure he was considered a club legend previously, so I’m not sure why he’s only an icon. Either way, he continues to be an incredible player for us. 30 goals and 21 assists in the league. He’s not yet to 500 appearances in all competitions for us (484) but he has 317 career goals and 229 career assists – over 1 goal contribution per game, what a player. Remi McCall – He’s just a very good centre midfielder. 24 goals and 28 assists in all competitions all from midfield is a fantastic return. He’s with us for yet another season on loan in what was the easiest loan decision ever. Chris Gorman – To continue with the prolific goal contributors, Gorman was again great for us 31 goal contributions in the league from 25 games. He picked up a few niggly injuries across the year or maybe he’d have even better numbers. Youth Watch Ryan Power – Power would have been over the moon when Jacko was sold as it meant he was promoted into the striker rotation. He had a very good season just missing out on being considered one of the 3 key players. 30 league goals from just 18 starts means he actually scored more than Jacko the season prior which validates the decision to sell him easily. Ross Kavanagh – Barely played this season, think I’m going to try and offload him this summer for the good of his career. He is a decent player for certain, just has better players ahead of him in the first team thinking. Matt Harbinson – Another solid season for Harbinson as he cemented himself as our second choice defensive midfielder meaning he got a nice amount of game time over the season and did well with it. He’s not likely to end up first choice, but I’m happy to keep him in his current role. Glen Crowley – My coaches don’t reckon Crowley has much of a ceiling, but, he’s a Model Citizen and spent the season out on loan with Glentoran with the only players to score more than him this season all players who played for me. He managed 23 goals this season which is a great return. I will likely try and loan him back out to them next season to see if he can replicate himself next time out. Guppy and Gorman have similar traits - through balls and round keeper - is that a coincidence or did u coach them in? Some of the youth talents are excellent too, Harbinson is a cracking player for a back up, the striker who was at Glentoran looks great too with that great personality too I'd be keeping him around the place. Thought you would save them for European games as your back up players could win the league. You might have to actually spend money to get the players needed to win the CL rather than rely on cheap players with potential since they will be relatively rare and generally well known to other teams. Season Details League Table - We dominated from game one and we were at the top of the league for the entire campaign. League Fixtures 1 & 2 - We were so good, winning nearly every game. We came within a whisker of going unbeaten for the entire campaign. Scottish Cup - We made it through to the fifth round and despite leading at half time at home to top flight and affiliate club Dundee United, we succumbed in the second half and went out. Premier Sports Cup - Two wins on penalties and two losses meant we finished bottom of our group and were eliminated at the group stage. SPFL Trust Trophy - A home defeat to Hamilton Academical eliminated the club at the second round stage. Pre Season Friendlies - We played four games and lost all four so our preperation was far from ideal. Squad - We are good enough to finish in the top half in the second tier. Squad Dynamics - Lovely. It really is lovely. Transfers In 1, 2 & 3 - The calibre of player that arrived has been a clear step up in quality. As a result, we had quite a few arrivals, mainly free transfers and loans, though I did spend big on one player. Transfers Out 1, 2 & 3 - Around £400,000 was raised in player sales, most of which also have sell on clauses. Youth Candidates - A poor intake this year with right sided midfielder Marc Hutchison YP24D12 the best prospect. Finances - Thanks largely to player sales, we made a handsome profit and have a healthy bank balance. Key Players Amari'i Bell - The experienced Jamaican international left back had a terrific season. Daniel Williams - Signed on a free transfer from Swansea City, the Welsh Under 21 international central midfielder slotted into the team with ease. Harry Chapman - The best player at the club, he has been a revelation. Joe Ward - Veteran player who can play anywhere on the right hand side, be it right back or right wing. He was used everywhere and his versatility has proved to be invaluable. Adam Dainty - Club record signing from Maidstone for £55,000. He was sold above my head for just £80,000 with a sell on clause by my chairman. He is such a good player. Next Season Can we reach the playoffs in the second tier? At this point my gaze was firmly up but just 4 points in the last 10 games meant the team finished only slightly above relegation. At the start of the poor run at the end was the 2nd rd swedish cup match against D2 Assyriska Turabdin, i played some backup players as many of my regulars were tired. Unfortunately they lost 0-2 away. Finances continued to improve. Managed to get 2 increases in youth recruitment with the best youth player in a few years coming through. New signing Lika provided creativity in midfield with Cakaric doing well up front. 2033 Table | Squad | Transfers The team started in pretty indifferent form with poor morale caused by me refusing to sell players for nothing and clubs not willing to negotiate at all. The team managed to keep above the automatic relegation places until 4 games from the end when Taby's improved form and 1 win the last 11 games dropped the team into the bottom 2. Draws in the last 2 games confirmed relegation in a season where the team didn't manage 2 wins in a row. In the swedish 2nd rd the team was again away to Assyriska Turabdin but won 4-0 after a red card for the home side. In the group stage the team faced Allsvenkan Norrkoping and Brommapojkarna and Superettan Sirius, getting 2 draws with 10 men to finish 3rd. Finances - persuaded the board to improve training and youth facilities at the start of the season although at 92k and 117k it was a minimal increase for both. Most of my transfers did not really work, i sold Ouattra and Saletovic as they were wanted to leave and were not essential players the season before. I did loan them back as part of the sale and Saletovic really upped his game. My record purchase Alriksson showed flashes of ability without really making the impact i hoped, his poor personality not helping. A number of long time players left this season inc Balter (LB, 140 apps, 7 goals), Mattson (LW, 167 apps, 19 goals) and Radojcic (DC, 188 apps, 11 goals) Another good youth player came along, shame they are all in the same position. Took the league lead in week 6, held on to it for all but one week until we lost it 3 weeks from the end. Regained it the following week but then couldn't beat the already relegated last place team, drawing with Dumbarton 1-1 despite outshooting them 31 to 4. Think we had a 9 point lead with 8 games to go and then we went 6 without winning, mostly because none of my players could find the net despite tons of chances. And then we lost both games in the semi-final of the playoffs. League Table Premier Sports Cup Still don't like it, managed one win against a League 2 side to avoid finishing last in the group. SPFL Trust Trophy Disappointing result here losing at Peterhead, another League 1 side, 0-1 despite being the better team. Scottish Cup A couple of easy draws to start, beating Vale of Lethian 3-0 and Rothes 3-1, both teams below League 2. Then we drew an away game at Premier side Dundee United. Lost 0-2, we were probably lucky to keep it that close. Key Players DC Dane Murray - Our star centerback, won the League 1 Player of the Year, setting a record for rating with 7.65. Led the league in headers won, key headers, clearances and possession won. Unfortunately he thinks he's too good for us and is leaving when his contract ends at the end of this season. Will definitely be missed. ST Innes Lawson - Led our team with 19 league goals and 21 overall. Really struggled at the end of the season though. Maybe I need to give him more rest next season? AMC Ross Ballantyne - Our new signing of the year picked up from Celtic, I signed him to be a backup but he grabbed the 10 role and performed brilliantly. 13 goals and 6 assists, he was definitely a bright spot. Youth Intake Not as good as previously ones but a decent striker prospect in Maciej Ojrzynski, a 6'5" poacher type who may be able to contribute next season. Finances Still going well, 290K on the positive side. Looking Ahead This season hurt but it may be for the best. Murray was the only player who I was confident was ready for the Championship and he wasn't returning. Some of my regens are ready for a bigger role in League 1 and should help next season. Thinking we will tweak our tactics a bit. We had the best defense in the league playing a 4-3-1-2 but I think I want to try a 5-2-1-2 to better face opposing 4-4-2 formations that seem most popular. A handful of decent signings in pre-season definitely levelled up the team but we certainly weren’t going to be the strongest team in the league. Then we signed Shakur Omar. The Swede was released by Atlanta, on his interested page were Porto and AC Milan. I put in a contract which was agreed but I felt the competition might well be too tight. Days ticked by with no other offers on the table. Eventually, over a week later.. Omar signed to give me the prolific poacher I needed upfront. At only 19 he has masses of potential and he went on to score 22 goals in 33 games. Following this Albanian centre-back Kristi Marku signed who added the strength at the back I needed. With these signings on board we were excellent but up against strong opposition in Altach who ran us close until after the winter break. After this we pulled away however. With young Czech playmaker Tomas Vitasek signing in January we barely lost a game in the run in until promotion was secured and with the pressure off we happily threw away some points. We’ll have to see how we get on. Key Players Shakur Omar – Swedish forward signed from Atlanta on a free and scored 22 goals. Tomas Vitasek – Promising young Czech playmaker signed from Opava and contributed 9 assists. Pure coincidence. I don't really coach traits as, being honest, I don't really know which would be best suited to my players so I just let them get them or lose them naturally. Guppy and Gorman are in the same mentoring group however, so that could go to explaining why they both have it. He plays so many games for a few reasons: 1) Right wing is the area I have the least depth 2) His playing time is a star player, so I don't want to be doing anything that will cause him to lose happiness 3) He can't stat pad if he doesn't play 4) Most of the league games aren't actually that close to European games. I know I will eventually, the issue is, the players that I can purchase and would have to spend a lot on transfer fees and wages aren't significantly better than what I have, so I feel I'm better suited to developing those I already have whilst improving reputation and standing so when I do spend money it's on players who are bigger upgrades. It's still at least another 5 years before I think we'll have a feasible chance at winning the CL so till then I'll bide my time and build up a big nest egg to really splurge one summer. DazRTaylor Posted February 4, 2022 Share Posted February 4, 2022 (edited) End of Season Review Season 2024/25 The Spartans Season Summary An extraordinary season as we romped to the league title and promotion to the top flight. We also won our first domestic cup as we were on fire for the entire year. Season Details League Table - We were top from the outset and never looked like losing the league title. League Fixtures 1 & 2 - Our first defeat didn't occur until the last game in November and we carried on churning out the wins thereafter. Scottish Cup - Our best cup run to date as we made it through to the quarter final before losing at home to top flight outfit Motherwell. The fifth round win away to Aberdeen was incredible. Premier Sports Cup - We won all of our group games to top our mini league and made it through to the quarter final before losing away to giants Rangers. SPFL Trust Trophy - Our first domestic cup as we were never troubled en route to winning this competition, conceding just one goal in the entire tournament. Pre Season Friendlies - A better pre season than in recent times and we managed to win half of our six games. Squad - I honestly believe we are good enough for a mid table finish. With the right additions, I would love us to go further. Squad Dynamics - As superb as you would expect it to be. Transfers In 1, 2 & 3 - So many players arrived, primarily youngsters I have taken a punt on. Mostly free transfers and loans, though there was one acquisition for a transfer fee. Transfers Out 1, 2, 3 & 4 - A lot of players departed, many for small fees as the fringe players moved on. A lot of youngsters left on loan to gain some experience. Youth Candidates - There is no great depth to the intake, though we have a couple with real potential, goalkeeper Taylor Porteous YP25A14 being the best of the group. Finances - We made a small loss this year though the prize money in the top flight is a lot higher so I don not expect this going forward. Key Players Joe Ward - Now aged thirty, the right back had another splendid season. Irapuan - Brazilian teenager who has made the anchor role his own. Lee Evans - A full Welsh international, the central midfielder enjoyed a fine first campaign at the club since arriving on a free transfer from Hibernian. Felipe Vizeu - Brazilian striker signed on a free transfer in January. He has been a goal machine, scoring 16 goals in 17 appearances. Jé - The third Brazilian at the club, the central defender signed on loan for eleven months in January and has quickly established himself as the best defender at the club. Next Season A mid table finish is the goal.
