For what it's worth that decision to play in Kane was poor from Mainoo but he's been playing well tonight and trying to be more progressive so I'm not gonna complain too much.

At least it was a forward pass though.

Mainoo does attract some really strange takes.

Not everyone is a ready made superstar like Bellingham, Mainoo still needs a full season as starting midfielder at Man Utd. Who will hopefully, for his sake, be more stable this year and less of a **** show.

He didn't go through him though? He was pretty much stationaty, including the leg.

How is his leg stationary? He's clearly moving towards the ball to try and block and misses it and connects with Kane. Whether that's enough for a pen is up to you, but he's not stationary.

You guys are mad. Mainoo is having a good game..

He is. The one incident just stood out and overshadowed the rest of it unfairly.

Get the **** out of defensive midfield Kane.

Or stay there and bring a striker on for Rice to play up front.

Young hyped English player. Perfect target for people to relentlessly **** on for the first sign he's human.

The real question is, why did Southgate persist with TAA in midfield for so long?

Because experience >>>

Same reason he persisted with Hendo and Maguire for so long and if he was to be the England boss for another decade, would use Kane for too long too.

You could argue he already is

Mainoo is finally on the pitch for a goal and it shows

Maguire will be back as soon as he is fit, whoever the next manager is. Maybe not a guaranteed starter though.

Problem with Depay going off is Holland don't seem to have much pace in the team. Low threat of counterattack; not many ideas when 1v1. They'd be better off bringing on Weghorst and just hoofing it into the box

Maguire is a big match player. Well, for England he is anyway

Also seems to be their only real threat on set pieces.

Good half. Right side of Mainoo / Foden / Saka on it. Left side and Kane less so, which is hampering things. Just need one of Trips / Bellingham / Kane to turn up more there and we can blow this Dutch side away.

Now the question is, why haven't England played like this, even in bursts, before now?

And why won't they play this way in the second half :brock:

Bellingham has done some decent stuff, there's just noone there with him.

Trippier off, Shaw on at HT would change things massively out on the left.
