Maybe there's something to this whole "don't peak too soon" notion. Maybe, just maybe it's better to win playing **** and trudging all the way to the final before putting a performance in... Poor Austria

He's done what's he's had to do, but hardly been challenged much. Been one of our better players, but that doesn't mean anything. Positioning and defensively hes obviously very good, but im not impressed with him on the ball. He never looks confident, takes far too long to pick a pass, too hesitant and too slow. Makes me long for Harry Maguire's ability to pass through the lines and progress with the ball. Not all his fault, the shape is obviously all over the place, but when you touch the ball over 50-70 times in every game so far and all you've got to show for it are passes backwards and sideways, I wouldn't say that was that particularly good.

Simons reminds me so much in terms of playing style of Sterling. Anyone else?

England, obviously, but I'll be honest and say that during the Slovakia game there was a part of me that hoped we'd go out because I couldn't bear the thought of watching England play like that again. Then Jude scored, and my true self revealed itself at 100000000 decibels and sod it, I'd happily watch John Stones pass the ball to his left 100 times a match 5 foot outside our own box if it meant we went all the way. If not us, I'd love to see Portugal get to the final, just because I can't get enough of the Ronaldo show. It's just great tv all around.

Belgium turned into England there with those passes between the defence

Spain, Austria, Swiss, Georgia to name 4. Out of the big boys can only imagine the Spanish are truly optimistic. French seem frustrated and the Germans haven't reached the highs from the first game. Have no idea what the Netherlands think of their lot.

Feels like a proper big boys knock out game this. France are getting better as the game goes on, Belgium don't look that dangerous on the counter, but they have the players to make that difference. Not the most exciting of matches though, very tense.

John Stones either isn't fit, or he's treating Southgate like a substitute teacher and taking the ****. He'd never play like that under Pep, he'd be too scared to. The same goes for Walker, they're both underperforming massively. Southgate's a problem, but a lot of these players are massively under-representing themselves, and it's not just because of the tactics.

Doubt it, if we couldn't fathom that the group stage performances were so bad that they needed more than the rotation of just one position, an entire change of system is highly unlikely. Recent history tells us we're probably going to see just the enforced replacement of Konsa for Guehi. Everything else, as it was. 3-5-2 makes sense to me with the players available, but it won't happen.

Would be interesting to see the stats from before and after extra time. Was around 73% last time they did a graphic late in the second half on ITV. I swear we only made 3 passes in the entirety of extra time
