Mellieha Sports Club Season 20 2041 – 42 Malta Premier League Europe Long story short: we qualified for Champions League and then got blown away in the group stage. Inter are the reigning champions of Europe & Italy and Athletic Madrid are consistent #3 in Spain. I have to say our home loss to Inter 5-6 was a crazy affair. Youth Academy The main reason this save is stalling out is the just dismal intakes the past few seasons. I'm 3 years into a new HOYD so we still have a couple years till we can see if this guy will improve anything. Really feeling the YF bug here. Youth Intake Preview Youth Intake Best prospect is my half Australian, but of course he is a natural in 4 positions I don’t use and really he's not all that great to begin with. Also interested to see what happens to this Determined LB, if he can become useful and help replace my aging (28) FB in a few years. We are getting some players from our affiliates who are so far nothing to get excited about, but that sums up all my intake players... Transfer Market So Nicholas Buhagiar 14a has been a ticking time-bomb since I tricked him into a 7 year contract when he joined the club. Over the summer Arsenal & Porto started a bidding war for him culminating in this 46.5 M offer by Arsenal. Somehow though, in November, he actually became happy for the first time in years and let us negotiate a contract, and he accepted! He will be the highest paid player in Malta, but we have the money to do what we want. Getting him for 4+1 more years makes what was a disappointing season a success as this is our LB depth chart: Club Info With last years EC2 title we are up to 3* Reputation, but we are still unable to upgrade Youth Facilities or add more affiliates. Summary Slowly playing when I have a chance, but really in a holding mode till the next FM. I might switch this over to a normal save and just blow through our budget to make an actual run for the Cup as I feel like this team has peaked already.

Thankfully we had a 4 goal lead otherwise our 1-4 lost would have dropped us down earlier. Celtic did that who are a team we've faced multiple times now and have never beaten. So Euro Cup it is this year. Euro Cup Group Stage We drew Arsenal, which was unfortunate but also Danish Brondby & Rapid Vienna who are stronger 3rd and 4th pool picks. We had bad luck in this group stage with the first 3 matches edging against us. Of course Aresnal were always going to win the group, but I was disappointed with 3rd place after we just couldn't manage to win against Brondby. Conference League Knockouts Guess it was a blessing in disguise as it dropped us down to EC2 where we had a wild ride. EC2 First Knockout: Molde FK (Norway) EC2 Second Knockout: Valencia (Spain) EC2 Quarter Final: Maccabi Tel-Aviv (Isreal) EC2 Semi Final Rosenborg (Norway) EC2 FINAL! Vojvodina (Serbia) Tree Youth Academy I had to resist instantly sacking my HOYD after this travesty of an intake. Its his 2nd season and he's out of contract at the end of this year. My plan is to just let him go month-to-month as I wait to find a better option. Only 'positive' is I've started getting a couple players from affiliates. Annoyingly Derry City sends me Irish players instead of Northern Irish, oh well. Club Infrastructure We've maxed out our small stadium to its ~12k capacity. I'll give it a few years till I ask for the club to build a new ground. Still no Youth Facility upgrade option... Thoughts Its a busy time for me so I haven't been playing much. It doesn't help these intakes are just completely demoralizing. Winning the EC2 though has brought a lift to the save, which will be my final save of FM22. While winning the Champions League won't be in the cards with these kinds of intakes, my hope is to match my Slovenia success with two Europa League trophies.
