  1. Well done @grff as others have said it’s nice to see it done in another continent.
  2. NORMAL SERVICE RESUMES FOR SAK 1914 More Youth Details Youth Intake Preview Youth Intake Top 5 Season Review This season was more like what I think we should have had last year, we finished 5th and whilst we were keeping fairly close with the leading pack we faded away in the last third of the season. It was to be expected as I favoured 4 of my Elite1 group to start playing regularly and there have been some minor improvements in their ability but nothing stellar. We struggled defensively this term conceding over 10 goals more than last year but we scored 5 more goals. In the cup we made it to the third round once more so again nothing to really discuss. I feel very relieved we didn't fluke the promotion last season as I think we'd have been savaged in the league and come straight back down which I may have kept my job I may not have, safer this way as I can steadily build the youth into a position where we can challenge the teams in the league above in a few years. The board have been pretty solid so far with them agreeing to further Junior Coaching and Youth Recruitment upgrades as well as backing 3 coaching badges for me this season (2 attained and Continental A just started at the tail end of the season). The technological advances feature hit this year meaning we are back to 2.5 stars (average) training facilities and I put in a request (tried previously and it was shot down) and the board accepted it this time at a cost of £950k, which puts our finances down considerably from the end of last season. The intake this year was really good with a standout in central defence, a couple of good strikers and in general a very good set of personalities. I'm looking forward to next season to integrate these guys with the team and then look to use my larger squad depth to get some of the fringe youth players out to USVC Plainfeld for some much needed match experience (albeit in non playable leagues) since the B team are not playing often at all. No sign of interest from other teams in my players at this stage but I think Boeckl (Elite2) might just be the first to garner some interest as without playing a first team game he is in the Austria U19s so I have high hopes for him. I'm thinking with the lack of decent wide players (only really Holzl is any good and he can play centrally anyway) I am thinking of a narrower formation for next season with a diamond formation or 4-3-1-2 AM or 4-1-3-2 DM or 4-3-2-1 as I believe the striker I have from the intake could make a good partnership and to be honest we really lack goalscorers in the team.
  3. FINAL DAY HEARTBREAK FOR SALZBURGER AK 1914 More Youth Details Youth Intake Preview Youth Intake Top 5 Season Review The headline of the season was missing out on promotion on goal difference after losing to the team that leapfrogged me on the final day 1-0 at home. It was tough to take but in saying that we were 200-1 to win the league (which Red Bull Salzburg's underlings FC Liefering won pretty comfortably) so we would most likely have come straight back down. We didn't score that heavily but defender pretty well with the 4-1-2-2-1 DM Asymmetric AML (thats a mouthful) which I opted for given there was very poor choices on the right (something the intake has rectified so I'll see about possibly switching it up depending on our opponents tactics). In the cup we got to the third round and were humbled 3-1 by FK Austria Vienna so no complaints there and whilst there weren't many finances involved with this I earned £1.2m over the season with 3 payouts related to having a minimum of 12 Austrian players in the match day squad for 9 matches in a row so that was a welcome boost to the finances as they were in a general decline throughout the year. The intake was ok and has given us what appears to be a solid centre back to develop next season in the First Division which is great as I had to resort to players out of position this season when injuries and suspensions kicked in. The left back and central midfielder will also prove useful but the majority I reckon will just sit in the B team this season. Unfortunately the registration rules are such that you can only register players during a window so whilst I can register up to 99 players I couldn't add any of the new youth players for the last half a dozen games. The board have been great with my coaching badges with 2 attained and a further one in progress as well as agreeing at the second time of asking about Junior Coaching and Youth Recruitment upgrades that now sit at 3.5 stars and 3 stars respectively which I think is a great position to build upon after 1 season. They have also just increased the number of allowed coaches to 4 and I'm pleasantly surprised at the quality of coaches interested in joining the club. Attendance wise we are filling over 50% of our stadium so we have room for growth so things are looking good. I love the format of the First Division with a straight up 30 games with one team going up and whilst FC Liefering will be favourites once again finishing second seems achievable if we can hold onto this squad and develop a few of the youngsters. There's also a hefty winter break which can speed up the season as well.
  4. I think the Austrian league and I might get along quite nicely if this is anything to go by (much needed in this first season):
  5. @russ the wombleI just realised there you and I are managing two sides of a fierce Salzburg rivalry though I am nearly 20 seasons behind you
  6. Congrats @fries That was some ending to the challenge winning it from 2nd place on the final day!
  7. So I think I found an Austrian club I am happy with as it has a good backstory. Salzburger AK 1914 Founded in 1914 Salzburger AK are the oldest club in Salzburg and before the second world war were the most successful team in Salzburg. They have won the Austrian First Division once in 1985 but after being relegated from the second division in 1988 they have never made it back up........until now! The challenge remains the same but we also want to become the top club in Salzburg once more. Our fierce rivals are the original SV Austria Salzburg and given they formed after the original club renamed to Red Bull Salzburg,w so I think we will inherit the rivalry with them as well (even if the game doesn't have this at the moment). Stadium Sportzentrum Mitte - Sportunion Built 1921 Capacity 3000 Season Ticket Holders 436 Training Facilities GOOD Youth Facilities GOOD Junior Coaching ADEQUATE Youth Recruitment AVERAGE Balance £427,952 Squad 24 players with a very healthy blend of personalities and apart from DC and DL there are a good number of players in each position. Let's go!
  8. Well thats my run in Scotland over, not because I was sacked but because I stupidly cleared up a lot of my saves and somehow managed to forget that my East Kilbride save hadn't been moved to the "Active Saves" folder and I ended up deleting it I prefix my youth academy challenge saves with "YAC - " so they are grouped together meaning I didn't spot East Kilbride in a list of about 15 youth academy saves which itself was with about 20 other saves for various bits and pieces I had started up. Still got my failed Vitkovice attempt in the Active Saves though Never mind, despite doing well enough in Scotland it there just wasn't any real interest in it (completed league, know the leagues and teams well and no feeling of the unknown) Will jump back in the saddle soon (currently holidaying in Austria and Hungary - the new team day differs by about 8 days so its a good fit for running these in parallel)
  9. Yup that sounds torturous, never done an MLS save and I doubt I will now
  10. More Youth Details Youth Intake Preview Youth Intake Top 5 Season Review So the expectation was we were going to get relegated, the reality was we pushed Kilmarnock to match day 35 before they clinched the title then we got to the playoff final where our players were dead on their feet and Inverness CT retained their Premiership status with a 3-1 aggregate win. If I'm being honest I'm relieved we didn't go up. We continually punch above our weight thanks to the goalkeeping exploits of Aiden Dallas (Elite1) as we only conceded 19 goals in 36 games despite changing to a back 4. The reason behind the formation change was we just weren't creating enough (I still don't think we are but I'm working on a new formation for the coming season as we start to get better players in midfield). In the cups we didn't do as well as last year in the SPFL Trust Trophy and Premier Sports Cup but we made the quarter final of the Scottish Cup to meet......Rangers AGAIN! Unfortunately this time it was at home so no payday and we couldn't hold them to a draw for a replay and payday. Although the prize money from the league was good (£463k) we did miss the gate receipts from the Ibrox faithful! I'm getting annoyed with the board at the moment as all my requests are getting shot down but I guess the predictions for our finances is nearly £4m in debt in 3 seasons time so I can understand. Our average attendance is nearing the limit of this ground and there is no way we are getting an upgrade (I wish I had gone for East Stirlingshire now as they shared stadium with Falkirk!). The semi-professional bit is frustrating as well as I know its hindering players progression but its also largely to blame for the fitness issues at the tail end of last season when we just could not handle 2 games every week. We continue to bat away offers and now I have managed to get Middleton (Elite1) and Mackie (Elite1) to sign new deals (the second they said they were happy to stay at the club following clubs losing interest I offered a new deal straight away). Dallas (Elite1) however said the same thing but won't talk.....luckily for me I had got him to sign his initial deal with a 3 year extension which I have just triggered. The hope is I can go professional and get promoted before that expires and maybe he will stay. The intake this year was really good with Kodi Flatman (Elite3) being the pick of the bunch. A really well rounded striker with driven personality and 4 star current ability is about as much as I could ask for, I'm looking to pair him up with Middleton as a front two next season (reverting to my Katwijk 4-1-3-2 that eventually became a 4-3-1-2 when I got the right AMC). Flatman bagged 4 goals in 7 games since he joined the club so I am hopeful a full season in the Championship will see him continue that form. One thing is for certain I'd like to win the league to go up than do the playoff unless I turn professional before then or have a huge squad of players. The U18s bug still persists but at least I have a reserves now so I have appointed a manager with good WWY attribute and I just move my youngsters into that squad, still not ideal but I'm thinking if we turn Professional and have a good balance it might change (the reserves showed up when I was invited to join that league, the same thing hasn't happened yet with the U18s so maybe if that happens the issue will go). On to season 4!
  11. For sure, the fear of not developing someone with true potential and never knowing is always in the back of my mind. Even when choosing not to sign Good talents in the intake you always have that niggling thought “what if the reports are wrong?”
  12. I know the feeling, potential looks great but two issues are that you don’t have them ready now as you say and secondly the 5 star potential can be WAY off. Even if you get one player at 3 star current ability it’s a better position for here and now. Best thing I can suggest is going with your instincts on the most promising either based on attributes for their position or their personality. Once you put faith in a few youths you’ll soon know if it’s misplaced or not. in my current save I have a D/WB R/C who has had 5 star potential from day one (he wasn’t a regen) and he’s never got over 2 star current, doesn’t train that we’ll shows no signs of progress whilst others who came in with 1/1.5 current ability have improved and are now at 3.5 current ability in one centre backs case. Good luck in the tier above, you might be pleasantly surprised.
  13. @The7Striker looks like an interesting one…..most people go Paris FC to challenge PSG and you’ve gone a step further. I saw it said year founded 2018 and had a look at Wikipedia and see they’ve had a huge number of name changes Racing Club de France: (1896–1932, 1966–1981, 2005–2007) Racing Club de Paris: (1932–1966, 1981–1987, 1999–2005) Matra Racing: (1987–1989) Racing Paris 1: (1989–1991) Racing 92: (1991–1995) Racing Club de France 92: (1995–1999) Racing Club de France football 92: (2007–2009) Racing Club de France Levallois 92: (2009–2012) Racing Club de France Colombes 92: (2012–2018) Racing Club de France Football: (2018–present) They also hold the record for most goals scored in a league 1 season with 118 back in 1959/60……maybe a bit unrealistic to target that record but you can always try
  14. I really wish SI would improve the transfer AI, I have major gripes with it: Big clubs attempting to sign new youth players when AI club is bidding unsettles the youth player, however when I have had saves as the bigger club the youth player doesn't want to talk as they just signed a new deal When a club from a higher division attempts to low ball you with < £10k and you say £250k plus 50% of future sale if the bidder doesn't want to pay that either a) offer less than I ask for but not £1k more given I am asking for over £240k more or b) stop bidding Again when the shoe is on the other foot and you put a bid in for a player with £10k value that club will say £1m and the player is fine with it but if I do that they kick up a stink and the whole squad gets mad. The bidding club withdraw their bid because I've asked for too much then they seem to suffer a bout of amnesia and offer nearly exactly the same amount again. It's been this way for multiple versions of the game now and its infuriating at the inconsistencies between AI and Human managed clubs when buying/selling. In this day and age it shouldn't be difficult to code something whereby if I ask for £250k maybe the bidding club up their bid from < £10k to say £100k, I probably still wouldn't accept it but its about meeting closer to 50/50 in negotiation rather than 1/99 (As you can probably tell in my 3rd Season at East Kilbride I am getting bombarded every transfer window with Hearts, Ross County, Dundee Utd etc. all wanting to buy my 3 best players for pittance).
  15. More Youth Details Youth Intake Preview Youth Intake Top 5 Season Review In the words of Quantum Leap's Sam Beckett "Oh boy!" So we won promotion to the cinch Championship via the playoffs and whilst we were a close 4th it was an epic battle throughout the campaign to remain there. So far I've held on to Dallas (Elite1) who is said to be a decent Premiership player at the moment and can improve and it doesn't seem like the back to back promotions have changed anything yet. In addition I've got Ben Hughes, David Mackie (Elite1) and Pearse Pyott (Elite1) all having bids from Championship and Premiership clubs all being turned down and all but Pyott (Elite1) throwing a huff at not being allowed to move. Anyway, the season started off with 7 games unbeaten (with 4 draws and 3 wins) before we started to lose games (though we never lost to anyone that finished below 6th) and we were neck and neck with Edinburgh City until the penultimate game when we beat them 3-1 at home to leave us just needing a point at home to bottom club Montrose to secure the playoff place, we won 2-0. So finishing 4th meant I had to play the 9th place team from Championship, Arbroath and it was and epic 4-4 draw at home with Fellowes scoring the equaliser in the 94th minute. The away leg started with two goals in the first 10 minutes and a red card to Arbroath leaving it at 1-1 with 80 mins to go, we just couldn't get the decisive goal so it went to penalties where Dallas (Elite1) proved his worth with two saves for Arbroath's 2nd and 3rd penalties. The next match against Airdrie our players were tiring and I had to rotate with some of the youth players playing in the home leg where we won 2-0 and Ibrahimovic (Elite2) scored on his debut so it should be plain sailing in the return leg right? Wrong! 4-2 to Airdrie at the end of normal time and we were running on empty just praying to hold on for the penalty shoot out (though at this stage if we didn't go up I was thinking it might be better in the long run). Airdrie had 14 shots on target in the game and out Xg'd us 3.86 to 1.15 but 2 minutes from time Fellowes popped up from a long ball over the top from my CB Adamson (Elite1). their CB misjudged the ball, Fellowes hit the ball on the half volley and it looked like it was going in, the keeper then got a hand to it which took the sting out of it before the ball hobbled into the corner and the Kilby were in front! Really enjoyable (but stressful) season sees us with back to back promotions in the first 2 years of the challenge, crazy stuff. What was even more crazy was the Scottish Cup run where once again we were drawn against Rangers in the 5th Round......at Ibrox......and lost 3-0 again. Once again another £700k was injected into the clubs books and financially things are sound (though the board are being tight once again even with the advancement of technology resulting in the downgrading of our facilities they still don't want to consider any upgrades). Rangers were the eventual winners of the trophy. We did much better in the SPFL Trust Trophy getting to the semi finals and losing to league winners Falkirk 2-0 at home. Falkirk were the eventual winners of the trophy. In the Premier Sports Cup we got out of the group stages unbeaten with 2 penalty wins over Livingston and Albion Rovers with normal time wins over Hamilton and Bonnyrigg Rose. In the second round we were drawn at home to Celtic and lost......you've guessed it 3-0. Celtic were the eventual winners of the trophy. As far as the intake was concerned this year we got a good blend of players coming through and whilst not all of the positions are direct matches with our tactic a bit of retraining should sort it out, just like Josh Middleton (Elite1) who went on loan for the first half of the season, developed well and I brought him back to retrain as a left sided AF rather than an inverted AMR and he's now 4 star current ability. I had similar success in my Katwijk save with wingers retrained as AFs. The personalities we saw this year were really poor with only one positive personality and that was for a player I don't immediately feel will make it here. Next season is surely going to be a battle and I can only hope that there is a team comparable to East Kilbride that we can just edge out even if its by the relegation playoffs. The season preview has us at 200-1 with Queens Park at 13-1 in 9th and Falkirk at 7-1 in 8th. We didn't get this far finishing where we were predicted so hopefully we won't start now but I need to be firm with the bids for my key players and just survive next season.
  16. That’s crazy @fries to have won the CL before the league but now you can just prioritise the league over all else, 50% congrats /2
  17. Further Youth Details Youth Intake Preview Youth Intake Top 5 Season Review Unexpected title win in the first season after being predicted to finish 5th. We beat Alloa in the penultimate game to leave us just needing a point in our last game away to Albion Rovers which we won 3-2 with Fellowes grabbing a late winner. After losing the opening game, the key to success was our mid-season form not losing a game from November 11th to February 10th (P14 W10 D4 L0), we then lost to Alloa and Peterhead (both away) before going unbeaten in the remaining 8 games culminating in the title win. In the Premier Sports Cup we had Livingston, Hamilton, Edinburgh FC and Albion Rovers winning 2 and losing 2 (I'll let you decide which ones we won and lost ) so it was largely what I was expecting but a good yard stick beating Edinburgh FC who are League 1. The SPFL Trust Trophy we got FM'd by Hearts B and then lost on penalties however the main talking point was the Scottish Cup where we had the following matches: Second Round - 4-1 Halkirk Utd Third Round - 4-1 Stirling Albion in replay after 1-1 draw away Fourth Round - 2-1 Inverurie Locos Fifth Round - 0-3 Rangers Needless to say our finances weren't that great earlier in the save then we shot up to over £770k thanks to the gate receipts at Ibrox, incredibly lucky with the draw getting Inverurie Locos in the 4th Round to then get Rangers AND to get it away from home! Squad wise we lost Alan Lithgow at the start of the save as his contract expired and he wasn't interested in renewing it (there was an offer already on the table when I took over and I regret not adjusting it). He then joined Queens Park in the Championship so that gives an idea of the level he was at. I was a little underwhelmed by Bob McHugh as I thought he'd be the standout but it turned out that our strikers notched up 69 goals between them with Fellowes bagging 30 of these so at least the load was shared evenly between the 2nd striker. As can be seen from the squad overview I went with an asymmetrical 3-4-3 for lack of a better way of describing it. I wanted to keep Neil McLaughlin in the team so dropped him out of the front 3 to play as a shadow striker and it seemed to work quite well. With the wing backs I was able to rotate between the 2 fullbacks at the the club and my wingers who I retrained over the course of the season to play there which allowed me to choose between more offence or defence on the flanks as required. In truth they weren't that great anyway. The formation was also required as I was very limited with central midfielders and it made sense to play two DMS and have a lot of the play go over their head to the front line so direct football was the way forward. It has served me well so I will most likely try to stick with it given I only had 2 central midfielders in the intake and neither were in the elite category (not the be all and end all but early indications would suggest they aren't going to replace my current 2 and they are 25 and 18 so they aren't leaving the squad anytime soon unless I get transfer bids). So it's on to League 1 now where we are predicted to finish 9th with the same odds as 8th place Clyde but given I beat Edinburgh and Stirling Albion (predicted 7th and 10th respectively) I think I should manage to stay in the league and hopefully the board will stop being so tight with the funds and let me upgrade some more facilities. P.S. For anyone wanting to do a Scottish save the U18s bug definitely still seems to be there, I had delegated control over the staff to the chairperson for U18s last year, no one was appointed and now at the start of season 2 the responsibilities looks like this: So at the moment I have all of the youth players in the first squad so that they actually have coached training but I will need to look to loan as many as possible regardless of the level and the wages covered as possible to not affect the first team too much (especially when intake 2 arrives!)
  18. South Shields is a good example in England, I think I started one with the, in FM 22 and just canned it early doors, didn’t feel anything but a lot of people have success with them. @WhiteCat33’s Luxembourg save is a prime example of a great side story/objective as well as it being a tiny nation so you get that additional challenge. It’s the sort of save a lot of us will crave.
  19. Seeing all the English saves definitely made my Enfield save feel a little less “mine” if that makes sense. I then enjoyed Czech Republic with Vitkovice but ultimately failed. Definitely having some kind of backstory with the club or some nuance is a difference maker. For me with Chiasso they were right on the Italian border so I was interested in what Italians came through the academy, for Vitkovice they shared a large stadium with Banik Ostrava, the challenge was to become the main team in Ostrava then the country. My new save the club was one of the oldest formed clubs in Scotland but dissolved some time ago and only came back into existence 13 years ago, plus the overthrowing of the old firm is always a great additional challenge. If successful I can actually see me continuing the save and taking over the national job to do a proper build a nation save until fm 24 comes into the picture.
  20. Sometimes it just doesn’t click, I can’t put my finger on what makes it just seem right but when you know you know. I’ve now parked an English save and a northern Irish save. I think one factor is how many people are doing that league, if you are the only person doing a New Zealand save for instance you’re not seeing the same teams in other peoples updates. Happy hunting for a new save
  21. So I’m into february in my first season in Scotland and unless my board are very tight with money or the fact my u18s have only had one fixture all season but the delegation of hiring staff hasn’t changed a thing. On the u18s staff screen it says 0/0 coaches, 0/0 recruitment and 0/0 medical. Im persevering with the save because I’m enjoying it so far and I do want to see if it sorts itself out at some point in the save.
  22. Issue still seems present following the winter update. Just started a save taking over East Kilbride on June 25th 2023 and I can move players to and from the u18s but no option of hiring staff for u18s, placing adverts for u18s. I will try to delegate staff appointments to the chairperson but I can’t see that working either
  23. After a bit of a break recently I'm back in the fold with a new save (Ballymacash was going ok in Northern Ireland but it just wasn't grabbing me, think the whole 2 league tier feels a bit same-y after a while). Given the update is now out it looks like the bug for Scottish teams might be fixed I'm going to try it again (this was my first attempt at the challenge before posting on here and it was a disaster so I have unfinished business here). East Kilbride Football Club is a semi-professional football club based in East Kilbride, South Lanarkshire, Scotland. They are members of the Lowland Football League, in the fifth tier of the Scottish football league system. Formed in 2010 with the intention of bringing senior football to one of Scotland's largest towns,[2] the club initially competed in amateur football before becoming one of the founder members of the Lowland League in 2013. The club became a full member of the Scottish Football Association (SFA) in 2014, entitling them to automatic entry to the Scottish Cup. In May 2023 the club beat Stranraer on penalties after a 2-2 aggregate draw in the cinch League 2 Relegation Playoff. Sounds like the perfect fit for Neo Geo and the Youth Academy Challenge! The squad looks pretty decent in terms of numbers and depth and the personalities at the club are a good starting point. Facilities are as follows (using my star model): Adequate Training Facilities (2 star) Adequate Youth Facilities (2 star) Adequate Junior Coaching (3 star) Fairly Basic Youth Recruitment (2 star) I've still not got a load of free time at the moment but I wanted to commit to this save to get it going. Up the Kilby! EDIT: Just ran through the first steps and found you can’t appoint u18s staff still or do job advert for them so the bug still looks like it’s there. I’m still going to give it a go anyway, I’ll just need to loan a lot more of my youth players out.
  24. Youth Intake Preview Youth Intake Top 5 Season Review So it's happened, we won promotion (just) and now I have to wonder if it's too soon or not. In the league I hadn't lost a game until February 15th (Match day 28) where it was away to Ards but after that I had a really awful record for a title run in P10 W3 D4 L4 which meant on the final day of the season I lined up at home to Dergview with the league looking like this: I got a typical Johnny Burrows (Elite1) goal with a ball over the backline and he took the ball to the left of the goal before placing it in the far corner with the outside of the boot. Seeing that Ards were 1-0 up I decided not to go for it and pulled back to balanced and took the tempo down a little, then I clocked Ards were 4-0 up away to Ballyclare meaning I was winning the league by 3 goals and could lose it if Dergview scored a late equaliser. In the end Dergview didn't generate a highlight in the second half so it was fairly comfortable rather than convincing. Ards ultimately beat Dergview and Warrenpoint to get promoted as well. In addition to them going up Newry City managed to stay up meaning 3 of the 12 teams in the Premiership will have been in the Championship in the last 2 years so that might give me a sniff at survival......maybe. In the cups we faired much better losing on penalties in the Bet Mclean Cup to Cliftonville (A) and then of course we managed to win the Mid Ulster cup with a narrow 1-0 win thanks to a Jordan Morrison back post header from a corner and then being put in our place by this years Danske Bank Premiership Champions, Larne, losing 3-0 before they went on the claim the trophy and a domestic double. My intake promised a lot with all As which resulted in 12 Elites and 4 Top Talents so it was pretty solid with one absolute standout, Ciaran Brown (Elite2), which is good because my best right back, Curtis Woods, is now 32 so I need to get that succession in place. A couple of handy central mids, a decent look resolute forward, a promising keeper and a inverted left winger rounded off the players likely to make an impact. Personality wise the intake was a little worse than last year and in the current squad there has been a bit more of a divide appear with more positive and negative personalities appear at the expense of the neutral ones. My HoYD refused to sign an extension so the new one I have appointed is Fairly Determined rather than Fairly Sporting so we'll see what effect this has over the next few seasons (assuming I stay in the job!) My coaching badges were all approved until the last one requested (Continental B) as the board were worried I'd be poached by another club but after using up pretty much every dialogue option to persuade them, they allowed me to go on the course. I was able to get the youth recruitment and junior coaching improved once this season but they turned down any further improvements whilst the training facilities is just a non starter due to the current balance, which could prove to be a problem as David Douglas (Elite1) was unhappy my promise was not kept and I also promised improvements to Thomas McComb.....oh well Next season is all about surviving no matter what though having played (and beaten) some of the teams from the division above this season I'm hoping we might actually just stay up.
