I'd 100% play Trent at RB tomorrow. Even if he's not first choice for the knockouts there, if we're not even considering as an attacking sub it's criminal. Give him some minutes there for cohesion. Gallagher.... well it was always going to happen. I don't like him, but I also presume he's better at Trent in terms of showing for Rice when the latter is on the ball. If the defence of Rice is "well, of course he can't pass forwards, he's not that kind of guy - he needs help" then we do need the other midfielder to play a big role in that. Or just play Wharton and move Rice forward...

Trippier being "rested" is absolutely terrifying - sounds almost an acknowledgment of "nah, Shaw has no chance"

I don't like Trippier at left back, but I don't think he's done anything wrong to warrant getting dropped for another right-footed left back (unless you're putting Trent there, or Walker to allow Trent to go RB, neither of which will happen ofc)

He was man of the match playing an "all-action" role more suited to an 8 and then was anonymous playing a more reserved role befitting of an actual 10 after comments by Southgate. Thanks for proving my point exactly.

You'll get a better performance out of Bellingham in the 8, that's why we move him back. Getting more out of Foden, or Palmer, or Kane etc. is just an added bonus. I don't agree with the notion that the team is build around the 10. (anyway I've already said I'd go Wharton / Rice / Bellingham now, without a 10)

After watching games like this I feel like the rules of football need to change to make regular league games more exciting. Something like if the game ends in a draw nobody gets any points, just to encourage mad end to end finishes like this

I didn't realise he'd not played a game for 4 months (yesterday), feels like a mad decision. You either acknowledge you need a left-footed left back and bring one into the squad that's fit... or you don't bother. A guy who's not played for 4 months isn't gonna be the guy is he.
