Sure, his coach doesn't really trust him to run and might annoy him now by taking him off before full time. His club form might not be the best either, but you can't ignore his record at major tournaments. That's enough about Shaqiri though, what about tonight's game?

Created Helvetica but I think the Swiss lineup pic is a bit low-effort tbh

How did they get here?

Portugal: Came second to Serbia in qualifying, beat Turkey and North Macedonia in the playoff round and topped their group at the finals, beating Uruguay and Ghana before a Portugal XI lost to Korea.

Switzerland: Thanks to Jorginho missing penalties they won their group that included Italy, then beat Cameroon and Serbia to qualify second behind Brazil to whom they lost 1-0.

Last 16 regulars?

Portugal: This will be their 4th match at this stage, and they'll be hoping to avoid a 3rd successive loss. A Maniche goal was enough to beat The Netherlands in 2006, Spain beat them 1-0 in 2010 and they lost to Uruguay 2-1 in 2018

Switzerland: Played 4 before this WC, and never even scored. They at least took Ukraine to pens in 2006 but they couldn't even convert one of those. Their last knockout game was a 1-0 loss to Sweden in 2018.

Previous meetings?

A qualifying match for France 1938 which the Swiss won 2-1 in Milan in the days before 'sportswashing' was a word - Hitler and Mussolini were present but at least the trains left promptly when they returned home. There have been quite a few qualifiers and a dead rubber match in Euro 2008, when Murat Yakin's brother scored both goals for Switzerland. The most recent match was in the Nations League earlier this year, a first minute Seferovic goal enough to separate the sides.

It was not San Siro, but that closed stadium in a Milanese park - check your sources :)

Winner plays... Morocco. Huge opportunity for both sides!

Switzerland aren't any better than Morocco, would be a 50-50 matchup.

Portugal has a ridiculously stacked squad, but are stuck with Portugese Big Sam. Still, I reckon they can go all the way to the final.

Switzerland to win on penalties after a bore draw. That arrogant Portuguese ego's tears are going to taste delicious... but enough about Bruno Fernandes.

Anyway, has anybody mentioned that they've dropped Ronaldo? :p

What's happened to Cancelo?

on the bench, no idea if he has a knock or that

Ronaldo on the bench more likely because his manager wasn't happy at how he reacted to being subbed the other day.  Seen Ramos a bit in the CL with Benfica but don't think he gets too many starts for the national team
