They at least took Ukraine to pens in 2006 but they couldn't even convert one of those. Their last knockout game was a 1-0 loss to Sweden in 2018. Previous meetings? A qualifying match for France 1938 which the Swiss won 2-1 in Milan in the days before 'sportswashing' was a word - Hitler and Mussolini were present but at least the trains left promptly when they returned home. There have been quite a few qualifiers and a dead rubber match in Euro 2008, when Murat Yakin's brother scored both goals for Switzerland. The most recent match was in the Nations League earlier this year, a first minute Seferovic goal enough to separate the sides.
