Generally, the mentor needs to be 21 years old or above before your staff will recommend for him to lead a mentoring group but even this might not work out great as it usually takes a few more years for the player's personality to "harden" to the point that he won't be influenced by the young players that he is supposed to be mentoring.   You can see in your image above that the rest of the players are influencing the mentor and you would ideally have his estimated effect from group listed as none.   BTW, Fairly Determined is not a personality that I would not want mentoring other players.

It doesn’t really make sense to me (my screenshot). It states that the mentees won’t have any influence (‘none’) but somehow the mentor is still getting an ‘average’ effect from the group? He’s mentoring himself then? 🙃

There can still be progression however you may tend to see better results with leagues that are loaded.

Thanks Herne! Loading those lower leagues would also help me potentially find & sign (steal) the odd gem for the future wouldn’t it? Am I correct in thinking that I can’t sign players from inactive leagues? Thanks

  3. Hi guys,

I'm managing a League 2 club (Colchester) & just noticed that my affiliate club are greyed out & inactive. Am I right in thinking that this makes them pretty much useless as a feeder club? If I send players out on loan to them, they won't actually play & progress as the club have no schedule & so won't play any competitive games?

Similarly, a  club in the Isthmian League made a loan offer for one of my 18 year olds who needs first team football. Despite them promising that he'll be a 'regular starter', he won't actually play will he?

So it would be wise for me to use a custom database & add those leagues?

    Thanks!

  4. I agree with what the other posters are saying. If you’re dominating possession & controlling games then your defensive midfielders are making fewer (if any) key interventions & tackles. If they’re doing their jobs well with regards to marking & closing down the opposition then they are stopping those players from gaining possession thus denying their own opportunity to make a key tackle. Perhaps the center backs are getting higher ratings because of heading balls that have gone over the top of your DMs?

Think about scenarios when a goalkeeper would have an exceptional game. It would be when they’re under constant pressure & being peppered with shots thus allowing them to make great saves. It’s the same with your DM & center backs.

You could give your DM more of a ball playing role like DLP (d) but I’m not sure I’d go changing anything in a winning formula. Perhaps find a DM who is solid defensively but has better ability on the ball with some suitable PPMs.

Your Mez is going to pull oppositional players out wide with him to create space in the middle which could play a vital part in creating a goal scoring opportunity but I very much doubt that the player rating will reflect this. It doesn’t mean that it’s not working though.

  5. Hi guys,

At the start of my save my lower league club have a lot of new, young signings who are in the first team squad & so on holiday prior to preseason training beginning.

These players will be squad rotation or back-up players until they (hopefully) improve through training & match time. I've noticed that if I move them into the U23 squad they return from holiday the following day & begin training. Is this a good idea? I would then move them back into the 1st team when the rest of the squad return for preseason training.

Will this cause me problems with fatigue later down the line? Should I give the players their holidays? I've attached a screenshot of an example player that I'm considering doing this with.

    Thanks!

I think the mentoring needs some rework. I don’t think it’s functional purpose was really designed for youth teams. I personally do not try and mentor at youth level as influence within team is not established (or maybe non-existent).

to stray from giving a negative, unhelpful post…

Young players do change personality and will pick up influence outside of mentoring. If you have a youth player who you are really keen on, consider moving him to senior squad and train with big boys but play with youth squad. Then you can get proper mentoring benefits.

Thanks. So it's not possible to mentor within the under 18 squad? I wondered whether it was because my players are only 'influential' & not 'team leaders' or 'highly influential players'?

  7. Hi,

I'm trying to set up mentoring for my under 18s.

I made a list of the 'influential players' who were 'fairy determined' for each position (that's the best personality I've got & I don't have any 'team leaders' or 'highly influential players') & they are the ones doing the mentoring but it estimates this as having no effect. The player positions for the mentor & mentee match. What am I doing wrong? Any ideas?

    Thanks!

ease off tackles or harder vs fast wingers/wingbacks?

I just look at the opposition player's strength & bravery when deciding this. I find that if a opposition player has high bravery then my players will often get booked. I assume that this is because the player's high bravery level prevents him from ducking out of challenges.

I've read before that some prefer to ease off tackles on fast, tricky players though.

    Does anyone do it differently?

  9. When a player responds negatively to a halftime talk, it would be great if you (or a coach or even the captain) could take them aside for a quick chat to try and fix the issue. Of course, this second chat could make things better or worse & it would be a gamble (depending on the staff skills, the player's personality & the relationship between the player & staff member.

I think that a manager (or coach or experienced player) after seeing a player react negatively to something said would sometimes (depending on various factors) put his arm round the player's shoulders and try to fix the problem before he goes back out on the field.

  10. It's great that we can persuade staff to stay when an approach is made but it would be equally helpful if we could also do the opposite & persuade them to move on.

Managers do this in real life when it's a good opportunity for the staff member or when they know that their future at the club is uncertain (due to a takeover or something) or perhaps even when the club needs the compensation money to survive.

Nope not transfer listed - that's not how I want to do it. These are my best performing players - my argument is that clubs should be interested in buying them basis their returns for my side and particularly in European competition.

I suppose so but it's all relative to the quality & value of the player as well as the ability of the (potentially interested) clubs to buy them & pay their wages.

Maybe @majesticeternity can offer some help/insight as I know that he has a realistic transfer mod (which I use myself).

Apologies if this has been discussed before, I could not find anything relating to FM21 at least.

I have regularly found it problematic to generate any sort of interest in my players or indeed sell them while managing in weaker leagues. Not sure if it is to do with league or club reputation, or anything else.

I am currently managing a Hungarian club and we won the league - but more importantly reached the semi finals of Europa. This ideally should have put my players in the shop window for the bigger leagues.

Cut to the summer and we have had measly offers for precisely one player, who I did not sell. My SS scored 41 goals last season, easily the most across any of the leagues. 15 of these were scored in continental competitions, between the UCL and the UEL.

He is 25 years old and still only valued at 625k, with not even an inkling of interest in him.

As one of my aims is to develop and sell players then get more in - this lack of movement totally kills the entire concept.

BTW, I have the top 5 leagues in Europe loaded as playable with another 10 or so as view-only. Any advice would be appreciated!

Are they transfer listed? How do the players react when you offer them to other clubs? Are they & their agent angry & determined to remain at the club? What are their wages like & how do they compare to the wages of the sort of clubs who you expect to buy your players? Do the players have a lot of years left on their contract?

Try offering the players out without stating a fee etc & see what interest you get. Transfer listing the player will reduce the price that clubs offer but will help to push a player out the door if they're reluctant to move on.

Often, I have to try offering quite a few of my players to other clubs (without stating a fee or listing them) & then just selling the ones that garner interest. Similar to how clubs under administration behave in the real world. However, I manage in the English lower leagues & so have clubs in division one & two as well as the Scottish leagues who are interested in my players. I guess for you it's a bit more complicated as they would need to move abroad & learn a new language etc?

Depends on the tactic at the end of the day. His incredibly low natural fitness does mean he's potentially going to decline. He also has the Does Not Move Into Channels player trait, whilst the DLF(Su) has the PI Moves Into Channels - a conflict.

If your tactic can accommodate a target man, then I think Davies might be worth a punt on a year contract. He'll still do what you're wanting in essence but his declining pace would be less of an issue.

Thank you! You'd take him over Jon Stead on loan for a year? I might take Davies on trial for 4 weeks & see how he recovers after friendly matches etc
