I think the tactic i'm using is the key tbh, there is no way i should have drawn with Austria and Bosnia and beaten Hungary

The Euro Qualifiers Play Off is in game. Not sure how yours works being a World Cup year, maybe you get a Play off place for that. Can also confirm the draw for the Play Off final takes place on 17/03/2028 in game, this is for the tournament in the summer of 2028.

League Table    Results 1    Results 2

A brilliant showing this season saw us pull off a brilliant 3rd placed league finish. Having finished 8th last season, this was a big improvement, having no European football this season definitely aided us, as our team was fit and raring to go for every league match.

We flopped in the cup again losing in the 1st Rnd, really would love a decent cup run.

    Playing Side

    Squad    Transfers

A big rebuild was needed after last seasons poor efforts. Out went first teamer's Morales, De winter, Bagnato and Bortoluzzi and in came Dillon, Birch, Diaz and the experienced Pereira. We also changed from a 41221 wide formation to a standard 4231 and it worked really well. We really struggled for goals the previous 2 seasons but this year, had the 2nd highest goals for in the league with 71 strikes compared to last seasons 56. We also conceded 4 less goals so the tactical shuffle worked well. You will also see quite a few youth players/regens floating around the first team, some haven't really played but the mentoring groups are really helping aid their development.

    Youth Production

    Youth Intake

A massive plus with this intake is not only the 5* PA of the best player, but the fact the best 3 are all single nationality. Two wingers, and a cm who all look like they could do well for the national side.

    Behind The Scenes

    Facilities    Finances

Another year of building up the clubs facilities, as you can see we have the infrastructure of a big club now, we just lack the stadium which has been in planning for a few years now. However, we finally have more details regarding the build. San Marino Calcio Stadium is due to be built within two years and have a capacity of 16'010. Not huge but just under triple our current 5500.

    Aims For Next Season

Another top 4 finish is now the minimum aim, a title push would be fantastic, however Milan have just won their 2nd domestic treble in 3 years, and last years champions Juventus came 2nd, and look back to being a strong team after 3/4 years in the wilderness.

National Team Update 2025 and 2026

    World Cup 2026 Qualification

    Table    Results

A poor qualification showing, although we managed 4 points, that is 4 more than the last manager in the previous qualifiers, the national board were unhappy with this, but allowed me to stay on. Hoping to do a lot better in 4 years time.

    UEFA Nations League D Group 1 2026

    Table    Results    Squad    Records

A brilliant year for the National side. I expected to do well in this group, we were unlucky 2 years ago to have to face Ireland, so this year, with no real stand out team, we always had a chance. 5 wins and just 1 draw meant we won the group comfortably, and with it sealed our first bit of national glory, promotion to group C.  We now have a few good players in the squad, but don't be fooled by the 5 star CA. The same players are only 2.5/3 star CA rated at my club. Even so im really looking forward to the EURO 2028 Qualifiers, as it will be a chance to test our progress.

    Club Update

    Youth Intake

Not going to do a full update for the 2025/26 season as it was bang average. Ended up 8th in  Serie A after a really inconsistent season where we was really good defensively, but again struggled to score goals.

We lost to Napoli in the Europa League 2nd Rnd, and lost to SPAL in the Italian Cup 1st Rnd.

Our new stadium is still in the planning permission stages.

    Facilities are looking stunning now.

Am currently in January 2027 in game, we are sat 5th in the league, with only 5 points between the top 5. Had a big rebuild in the summer, sold a lot of players that were basically dead wood, will post a full season update at the end of this season.

In what was another good year for the club, we managed to seal 5th spot. Very pleased with this, as playing in the Europa League for a second season running is good for the clubs finances, and the young players around the squad. And ATM, I think we would get spanked in the Champions League anyway. In the Cup, we lost to eventual winners Milan who are really looking the dominate side domestically, having won the domestic  Treble this season. Lazio are in the Champions League final, so shows how strong Italy is ATM in game.

In the Europa League, we got all the way to the semi final before being comfortably beaten by English side Everton 5-1 over the two legs. Delighted with this run though and will be back for another crack next season.

    Playing Side

    Squad    Transfers

Another season of good progress for the club, lots of youngsters improving rapidly and looking good for the future. One issue we had this season was scoring goals. our CM was our top league scorer on a measly 7 goals. Improve this and a top four finish is achievable next season. At the other end we kept an impressive 20 clean sheets, 4th best in the league. Inter kept an amazing 29 clean sheets this season.

    Behind The Scenes

    Facilities   Finances

More Upgrades over the season means the club facilities are now looking really strong, You'll see in the Facilities pic link we are also in the planning permission stages of a new stadium, huge news for the club. 14626 isn't the biggest stadium but its almost treble our current capacity, so will be a boost.

    Youth Production

    Youth Intake

Now this looks pretty decent, but anyone who knows the challenge also knows the dual nationality can be the most annoying thing in existence. 3 good prospects here all refusing a call up so far.

    Matteo Casu yp25a - CM.

    Filipo Valentini yp25b - CB.

Paolo Ceravolo yp25c - GK. Apparently has the potential to be one of the best players of his generation, although im sceptical about this, we shall see.

I have managed to get one of last years intake, who originally refused a call up to now accept one. Federico Balducci yp24d, so hopefully some of the above 3 follow suit.

    Aims For Next Season

Another top 7 finish would be acceptable but id love to push for the top 4 and its definitely possible, been given £350k wage budget and £11m to spend so will need to get a couple cheap youngsters in and hope they can improve what we have.

    2024 National Team Update

    Results    Nations League Table    Squad

Its been a very productive year in charge of the National side. Played 10, Won 8, Drew 1 and Lost 1, which for this stage of the save is pretty good going. Admittedly, we haven't played anyone of quality minus the Republic of Ireland. We had a brilliant Nations League campaign, finishing 2nd in the table, missing out on top spot and promotion by 2 goals. The win over Ireland surely must be the countries greatest win in history to date.

    Key Players

Nicolo Giorgetti yp21a - Cb - Progressing well with the club side, has made 6 starts and made 5 sub appearances so far this season and with a 7.06 av rating, has done very well. Will be a regular for the National side for years to come.

Christian Zafferani yp24a - LB - High potential Lb who has done really well for the national side, and already made 4 appearances at club level, already wrote his name in the history books as The Youngest Scorer in San Marino history.

Alessandro Gatti yp23a - CM - Another lad who is progressing well, although i've sent him on loan to our Serie C feeder club to get some valuable experience.

    World Cup Qualifiers

    Group Draw

We have been handed a really difficult group as expected Austria(32), Bulgaria(66), Italy(2), Kosovo(119) and Wales(53) will all be expected to beat us. In the 2022 WC Qualifiers, the team lost all 10 games, scoring 0 and conceding 52 goals, we surely cant do worse than that.

Due to the changes to the international schedule, all Qualifiers are fitted into a calendar year, so ill do an end of season update with the club side, and an yearly one for the National Team.

Also want to say its great seeing so many people getting involved with the challenge, really enjoying reading everybody's updates.

EDIT:  On the club side of things, the board have announced they are searching for possible sites and investors, with the hope of building a new stadium. No details have been released yet, but this is a huge positive.

    Season 6 Review Serie A 2023/24

    Competitions

Season Preview    Results 1    Results 2    League Table    Competitions Review

Predicted to finish bottom of the pile for the second season running, we defied the odds to finish in a very respectable 8th, missing out on European football by just 4 points. It was an up and down season, with games like a 4-3 win at Inter proving we can mix it with the big boys. But losses like the 5-1 spanking away at Udinese meaning we never really threatened the top 7 until the season run in. In the end, 2 losses to Juventus and Inter in our final fixtures meant we had to settle for 8th. Still a massive improvement on last seasons 17th place.

    Playing Side

    Transfers    Squad

A very important season on this front, we brought in 15 players in total, as last seasons lack of spending meant we had a fair bit of money floating around. A few signings were for the youth team with an eye for the future. We have also sealed permanent deals for Bortoluzzi, Marcucci and Amabile who have been with us on loan for 3/4 seasons and look real stars for the future. Bortoluzzi topped the Serie A scoring charts with 22 goals in 36 games this season.

    Youth Production

    Youth Intake

Easily our best intake of the save so far with Zafferani yp24aBalducci yp24d and Muccioli yp24b all looking like they could be really good players. Sadly, Zafferani is the only one who I can get into the national team ATM. Balducci and Muccioli both want to play for Italy.

    Behind The Scenes

    Finances    Facilities

Another good year on this front for the club. We started the season with youth and training upgrades ongoing and due to be finished in January as mentioned in my last post. Whilst these were ongoing, we managed to upgrade our Junior Coaching Budget and Youth Recruitment Network to Excellent and Established, a real jump from when we took over. Also, as soon as the training and youth upgrades were done in January, I went back in and asked for further upgrades, getting both Youth Facilities and Training Ground upgrades. No movement on a stadium upgrade as yet though, im hopeful this could be a positive, as when we do build a new stadium, maybe it will have a decent capacity.

    Aims For Next Season

To finish in the top 10 again would be decent enough. But with a bit more consistency, I know we can crack the top 7 and get European football.

Its been a tough first 18 months in charge of the national side. 14 games, 1 win, 3 draws and 10 losses. I did not expect to do any better this early in though so its not too disheartening. One plus is we now have a few decent prospects who should see us past some of the much lesser sides, because of this I was delighted to see the Nations League Draw come up, then I saw our group.... Ireland!!!! They are ranked 54th, Azerbaijan 153rd and Moldova 150th, making us at 187th the worst side. Still, ill be looking to beat the lesser 2, and see how we fair against Ireland. We did win our last game, a friendly against Lichtenstein, with a dominant performance that didn't match the 2-1 scoreline.

Good to see you survived lewis, amazing how you're only spending 51k a week on wages that's insane.

I found that the loan players i had in Serie B were wanted by their parent clubs' first teams this season so i've had to sign a lot of cheap/free players.

Only spent big on one player, a GK from novara for 1.2m potentially rising to 1.8m who has good potential to be my keeper for the next 5/6 years.

My best signing was a free transfer, 36 year old Hamdi Harboaui (sp), my scouts only rated him as a leading Serie C players due to him having ridiculously low pace stats but my system doesn't require him to have any pace at all, his job is to stand in the box and get on the end of crosses/ finish off any loose balls. and his stats for those situations are all 14, 15 and 16's so i decided to sign him and he has scored 19 goals in 18 games in Serie A, pretty good.

As for the league i'm scoring loads, and i mean loads but also conceding plenty, one highlight of the season was a 6-5 defeat away to Lazio which was a fun match to be involved in, took some pretty big scalps tough including a 2-1 win away at Inter.

Currently amazingly 6th in the league after 27 games but 8 points behind 5th, i may even end up qualifying for the Euro league at this rate.

Still no amazing youth prospects, just heading into March now so will get a new batch in the next couple of weeks.

One final thing, the board have just agreed to build a new stadium seems though we're selling out every game (4,800 season tickets), plans to be finalised at the end of the season with a capacity of 19,000 expected.

Yeah it was a risky tactic, but it paid off in the end as we have £20m in the bank. Ive been given £155k a week and £16m transfer budget so will be spending a bit this summer.

Sounds like your doing really well, any good youth prospects came through yet? would be great to see some screenshots

    Season 5 Review 2022/23 Serie A

    Competitions

Results 1    Results 2    League Table    Competitions Review

What a long and frustrating season. We started well, 7 pts from 12, a win at home against Roma, a draw with Milan, then we slumped bad. 11 games without a win, 3 whole months. I do not remember a more frustrating season as not only were our results bad, but the performances were even worse. We should have been hammered on numerous occasions. I planned to spend in January but really couldn't find anyone, I didn't want to spend crazy wages as the club are making a fortune in profit as you'll see below. The squads got some brilliant players in already who just wasn't performing, so i dumbed down the tactic, started playing 451 away from home on the counter, and results improved. January through March we picked up 5 wins, losing only 4 and this meant we were up in 13th, the league was tight, with only Torino sitting bottom looking down. Anyone from 12th-19th was a lose or 2 away from the bottom 3 all season, April through May we won only one game, and literally only survived due to Bologna and Benevento being worse than ourselves. We stayed up by 2 points.

    Playing Side

    Squad    Transfers    Best Eleven

We only signed a few players again this season as the returning 7 loanees were already agreed before the season turnaround. We done OK, we really struggled to adapt early on in the season but managed to keep or heads above water. None of the loanees can be signed on full transfers as the parent clubs dont want to sell, so depending on my budget next season, I am going to try and rely less on loanees, and make the team more of my own players. Sometimes we had 7 loan signings starting games and we need to get away from this set up. The plus was the clubs finances are looking amazing.

    Youth Production

    Youth Intake

Not the best batch, but we have 2 decent prospects, Seminara and Gatti YP23a. With Gatti being a great player to come through at this stage, with a cm being one position the national team has very little quality in if any. Hes been called up and already played in a euro qualifier by the national team.

As we have are now 5 seasons in, here are the best SMR prospects at the club:

Claudio Valentini YP19aST Product of our first youth batch has really done nothing to impress. Admittedly I could do with giving him more game time, but when played he has played rubbish, 1 goal in 24 games at club level, and 3 in 34 at international means he really needs to improve soon.

Lorenzo Moretti YP20b: GK : Yet to make his professional debut but is progressing well and could be of use to the national side soon.

Niccolo Giorgetti YP21a: CB : The pick of the bunch so far for me, made 8 first team appearances this season and didn't look out of place once. will gradually play more until hes ready to make the centre back spot his own.

    Behind The Scenes

    Facilities    Finances

A fantastic year on this side, making £2m profit a month due to paying just  £51k a week out on wages. With this we finished one youth facilities upgrade and instantly started another, whilst the training ground ground is due to finish at the same time, in October this year.  EDIT: 30 seconds after posting this update I received this news Training and Youth Facilities Upgrades, so thought whilst the board are feeling productive I would chance my luck and ask for more. I got a Junior Coaching Budget increase and a Youth Recruitment Upgrade

    Aims For Next Season

We need to loosen the purse strings next season and really push on. I am going to up my maximum wage to around the £10-15k mark and try to bring in some upgrades to the squad. We already have deals for Cameron DohertyNey Morales and Rony Preisner arranged, but we need more. Preisner doesn't join until January, but I can see him becoming a real star.

National Team Update Euro 2024 Qualifiers.

Played 4, lost 3 and drew 1. Not the best of starts, 3 games being friendlies with teams around us, who I thought we could beat but we didn't. Then the Euro Qualifiers started and were given a tough draw, Spain(10), Russia(30), Austria(26) and Bulgaria(65). World Ranking in brackets.

We have a couple of okay players, National Pool but this round of qualification is way too soon and strong for us, the next Nations League is what im looking forward to most.

  9. Quick Update

Happy with our start to the season, only 5 games in, but we have taken 7 points from some tough Fixtures. Roma, Lazio, Milan and Inter in our first 5 games is harsh. A 0-0 draw with Milan, and our first big scalp, a 1-0 win over Roma leaves me excited for the season ahead. Not much Transfer Activity this summer as I struggled to recruit players better than what we have for anything other than silly wages and I hate paying big wages to players who don't warrant them. This has left the club Finances looking incredibly strong as we are only spending £45k a week of the wage budget, and are making almost £2m a month in profit. I have managed to get the board to upgrade the Training Facilities and will push for more upgrades over the season. We are currently under a takeover bid, im hoping this doesnt go the wrong way for me as they could want to bring their own manager in.

The main reason for this update is I have taken over the national team Appointment

The reason being is in the nations league, they were top with 2 games to go and threw it away, Results. I would have let the current manager see out the nations league but after this failure I thought its time to step in. Currently ranked 187th in the world, this is where the real challenge begins.

    Season 4 Review 2021/22 Serie B

    Competitions

Season Preview    Results 1    Results 2    League Table

In what must be one of the biggest surprises in recent Italian football history, San Marino, billed as 1000/1 outsiders for the title, managed to seal promotion to Serie A via the play offs. It was a up and down season form wise, with unbeaten runs following 5 game runs of playing really poorly. But in the end, we just managed to do enough. Finishing the regular league season in 3rd place, meant we went into the play offs as the highest seeded team. In the semi finals we faced Pro Vercelli, who we beat 5-3 over the two legs. In the final we faced Chievo, who I thought may well end our dream. But a solid 1-0 away win in the 1st leg set us up nicely for the decider at home. With the score at 1-1 in the home game going into the 90th minute, we managed to grab 2 injury time goals to seal a 4-1 victory over the 2 legs.  The season preview couldn't have been more wrong, 1/5 favourites Juventus U23s were relegated.

In the Italian Cup, we won our 2nd Rnd qualifier 4-0 against Entella, before losing on pens to Serie A side Lecce in the 3rd qualifying Rnd.

    Playing Side

    Squad    Transfers    Best Eleven

Another year where we relied a bit too heavily on loans for my liking, but they are better than anyone we have or can sign ATM, and with barely any wages to pay them, it makes sense to take advantage. Caprile, Marullo, Bortoluzzi and Rovaglia have been with us for the past 3 seasons so feel like genuine squad members, all 4 will be with us for our maiden Serie A season. With a £85k wage budget, and £6m transfer budget, we will be looking to strengthen the squad for our battle against the drop.

    Youth Production

    Youth Intake

Another GK with 5* potential, but hes Italian.  We could do with some other 5* PA in other positions in all honesty but again I wont complain. Quite a deceiving intake, doesn't look amazing based on the stars but I am delighted with the personalities and determination. Some of these lads could go onto to be decent players for the national side. I've been surprised at how much a lot of our youngsters are developing in the youth set up. I think the determined nature of our squad and staff are having a massive impact on this as our facilities are poor.

    Behind The Scenes

    Facilities    Finances

This has been the most important year for the club in terms of this section. We bagged an impressive £2.4m for finishing 3rd in the league, which took us from just over £1m in the red, to £1.5m in the bank. I instantly went to the board and upgraded our Youth RecruitmentJunior CoachingYouth Facilities and our Data Facilities. The board refused a training ground update based on finances, I shall re try that in a few months.

    Records

    Club Records    National Team Records

Only one I can think of is Rovaglia is now the clubs all time top goalscorer with 66 league goals.

    Aims For Next Season

We are more than likely facing a battle to stay up next season. Our wage budget of £85k a week wouldn't even pay for a week of some of the players we will be up against's wages, but that is part of the fun. I have already got 7 loan players agreed to return for the next season, with the aim to spend as little as possible on players this year, that way if we do go down, our finances will be superb and give us a good base for a promotion push. However, with the highly talented youngsters in the team, and the high levels of determination, im confident we can avoid the drop.

I'm seriously pondering taking over the national team at some point this season, although the talent pool is still small, and with no real stars yet, we do have quite a few talented youngsters who could potentially help the national team break into that top 150 mark.  Is anyone managing the national side yet? They've started this years nations league really well. Nations League 2020 compared to Nations League 2022

    Competitions

Results 1    Results 2    League Table    Competitions Review

Its been a truly historic season for San Marino, as they broke record after record to finish second.....wait what? Yep, we finished 2nd. Lost 1 league game all season, and 1 first leg play off game, yet still couldn't win the league after we racked up 11 draws. We ended up finishing 2 points behind Livorno. In the play offs, we beat Cremonesse, Cesena and then Sambenedettese to seal promotion to Serie B.

We also won our first bit of silverware by bringing home the Serie C cup.

    Playing Side

    Squad    Transfers    Best Eleven

We was excellent this season, minus the drawing of 11 leagues game, the football played was brilliant to watch, with ex players constantly singing our praises in the press. Tofanari (superb at wb), Damonte (midfield dynamo), Minelli (LW with 21 assists) and Rovaglia (ST 27 goals) being my pick of the bunch. All 4 will be here next season, the first 3 are our own players whilst Rovaglia is already confirmed to come back on loan. Gutted the rest of the loanees parent clubs want them to play with more talented players as i would have loved to keep them.

    Youth Production

    Youth Intake

Not the greatest of intakes, but with the current facilities I cant really complain. Nicolo Giorgetti yp21a the pick of the bunch. Doubt he will get near our first team anytime soon but he could develop well and be decent for the national side. I've been really surprised at the development of our U18s. Admittedly i am not too involved with them at the moment but they are doing pretty well. Bottom of the league the first 2 seasons, they managed to finish 6th this season. Ill be keeping more of an eye on them as the save progresses.

    Behind The Scenes

    Facilities   Finances

No upgrades facilities wise, and our finances look bleak being 870k in the red. However, if I adjust the wage budget, I can potentially have a 1.2m transfer budget. Weird old game.

    Records

    Club Records    National Team Records

In what was an amazing season for the club, we broke so many records. Highest attendance was 5346 against Cesena in the play offs.

37 game unbeaten run, most games won in a season 26, most points in a season 89 and most matches won in a row 10.

    Aims For Next Season

Not sure how big a step up Serie B but lets upset the apple cart abit and aim for the top 10.

Good job, I'm kinda hoping my issue is to do with a dodgy DB, as annoying as it is I think I'm gonna have to start again on this DB, will make the same signings probably and holiday a lot of games so I don't have to spend another two weeks catching up to where I got before.

Will keep you guys updated with how I get on.

might be worth holding fire until one of us get to Serie A. Not had an issue with our database as yet but none of us have won promotion from Serie B. Id recommend klassens database from the steam workshop. hes usually spot on with the databases.

2020-21 Season Review - Motta To The Rescue

    Serie C

Bang! We just hang on for survival. A great run to end the season saved us as we got carried by Motta's goals. This was the run of games to end the season, peep how many points Motta won us by himself.

    Transfers

Okay so, transfers. For anyone who's done the San Marino challenge the figure of spending should jump out to you. How on earth did I spend 300k? Well it was essentially on impulse. I dropped a crazy 200k on Fratangelo on deadline day purely because I could, an absolutely horrendous decision as he finished with an average rating of 6.80 and 10 league goals. Stupid decision making from myself which could have put the club in jeopardy had I not made some sales to raise cash.

In general my transfers this year were a mess, hence how many players we signed. I signed new wingers but ended up switching to a back 5 halfway through the season which made them redundant. We signed about 7 centre halves through the season in a desperate search for some stability as we LEAKED goals. The signing of the season hands down was Maurizio Motta who joined in January and single handedly DRAGGED us to survival.

For 35k Maurizio Motta is an absolute bargain, 16 goals and 5 assists in 19 games is an absolutely ridiculous return and without him I'd 100% be getting ready to play in the playout fighting for survival. I'm desperate to keep this guy next season but he has a 140k release clause and won't renew his contract so in all likelihood he will be gone next season unless he has a change of heart (I want to give you all my money Maurizio please stay xx).

Good bit of business on Simonetti who joined in the summer for free and left in January for 200k, helped to offset the madness of the Fratangelo deal.

Awards and Team Of The Season

Somehow Motta didn't even get top 3 for fans player of the season. I'm angry on his behalf.

    Youth Intake

Horrible. Not worth even analysing. None of them will ever contribute anything meaningful.

    Finances

I did my best to bankrupt the club with my transfer dealings but we came out not too badly in the end.

Need to concede less from indirect free kicks, only team below us finished last in the league by a mile.

Well done on staying up mate.  I found the quality of player available for the second season in Serie C was a big improvement on the first season

How is everyone approaching this challenge?

I have personally chosen to loan unlimited number of players on a free loan (20+), while paying no wages. I initially chose to utilise my senior affiliates players, but then chose to scout all the Seria A teams and their squads, and surprisingly there were many that were happy to join us!

I've then decided to choose to use our funds to invest in the club.

Then work long term with the youth products…

Sounds like a strategy used by most. I'm more trying to get the club into Serie A before worrying about facilities. with the lack of funds, I figured it would be a struggle to get any upgrades so have just spent what the board have allowed on players and wages mostly.

Most of my players are developing well, and our youth players are showing some promising signs. Which contradicts the poor facilities but I'm not complaining

Nice work, your attendances should go up massively this season, mine improved drastically meaning i'm now working on a small profit each year.

They have gradually gone up, and in the play off semi final at home to Cesena we had 5000 I think. Average attendance was around the 1800 mark.

what sort of wage budget are you spending? I'm spending around 25k a week and have been given 45k for next season and a transfer budget of 350k so plenty of room to play.
