Season Summary

A nice comfortable season of mid-table mediocrity. After our promotion last season I was more than happy with that, as were the board. We were predicted to finish17th and relegated so I was happy to be out of that. It's a tricky division to be in as well - only 20 teams and the bottom 5 are relegated!

We stayed happily mid-table all season!

Cup - Second round this time! home tie against La Liga's Ceta Vigo so no money spinning tie sadly. lost 2-1

 

Players

It's gonna be tougher next season as half the team will have to be youth players. I can't afford to keep some of the legacy players when their contracts expire, their wages are ridiculous. To be honest, most of our players struggled with the step up in division. 

Ferro was pretty poor sadly, which was a bit upsetting. 

 

Youth

A very nice preview and intake! I was very happy with all those bright greens. Hopefully some will come good. They'll have every opportunity soon enough

Castillo looks the best bet. A DM by trade I'm gonna re-train him as a DC. He may well be first choice next season as well!

My very own B team!With any luck they'll enter the fifth tier next season and give me a really handy outlet for developing youth players.

 

Finances and Upgrades

eep. At the start of the season the board gave me a wage budget of 60k. No problem, I'm well under that at 36k, the board are gonna love me! Then I got this message at christmas...

All of a sudden they were upset with me for going over budget! It did make decisions about contract renewals easier. In some cases I literally couldn't do it anyway. So we lost a couple of big wages and should be down to around 20k a week next season, which is a lot better than the 60k when I took over

But we are still bleeding cash, making a loss of around 2m this season. No way I can get any upgrades with that state of affairs.

Career

The plan is to try and stay in this division while bringing some of the youth pulls through into the first team. It won't be easy to be honest - I'm half expecting relegation.

Ok, I did what I hadn't planned on doing, and that is to restart again. It just didn't feel the save anymore, so I decided to go back to a country I had much fun in a few years back, Germany! And I decided I wanted to take over a team from the former East Germany, since no teams from the former East Germany has ever won the Bundesliga! So I had a look an eventually settled on a club I remember from the top tier about 20 years ago. Energie Cottbus!

The club is located in Cottbus, a city not far from the Polish border, about halfway between Berlin and Dresden.

The club has a decent setup with average facilities, and a pretty middle of the park youth setup.

We also have a pretty big stadium, and even if it's a bit old, it has quite the charm.

The first few years is all about survival, wish me luck!

2034 Season Review:

This was unexpected. A loss on the 2nd to last match cost  a season with no losses. I was expecting to be 3rd, so this is definitely a big step forward. The big benefit is being put in group stage of Libertadores.

Ten Players Retired without history saved

Perez - 5 career appearances without a goal. Left in 2027 for a First division team with four appearances over 2 seasons. After a year without a team settled into lower leagues for two more seasons with 30 apps before retiring.

Y24B - 210 appearances with 38 goals. Star Player that can play three positions. Not in decline or anything like that at only 26 but some younger players coming for his spot. Has 1 cap with 0 goals for Chile.

Y24D - 16 appearances with 0 goals. Still with the club, but will be moving on from him in the near future. 

Y24E - 11 appearances with 0 goals. Also still with the club, but is also transfer listed.

Y24H - 1 appearance for us in 2025. In fact only has 30 career appearances for any team, but still an active player. Currently in lower league team after leaving on a free in 2028.

Sant Andreu – Season 4 (2025/26)

La Liga 2 A great first season in La Liga 2 as we defied all expectations, including mine, to finish 9th. We sat in 7th, just outiside the playoffs, for most of the season, but our form fell off quite dramatically in the last two months, so I was happy the season stopped when it did.

The only annoying thing about this season is that the board keep refusing to upgrade youth coaching saying that “we have enough youth players in the team already”, despite all the TV money coming in. I wish I could tell them I’m doing a youth only challenge, but maybe then they’d sack me ))

Players: Aarón Hontoria 01a is still the best by far, rated as a good player for the league we're in and wanted by a bunch of La Liga 2 clubs. But this season saw a few more youngsters develop nicely, with Manuel Ristori 02c grabbing 10 goals and 10 assists from right wing, and Franco Egea 01f playing consistently well at center mid.

Youth intake (preview): We are desperate for full backs so I was not chuffed with the positional split in the preview, but in the end we got one defender prospect Adria 04a, and one midfielder (Jordi Muniz 04d) who has decent attributes for a left back, so this may prove a pretty useful intake in the end. Given their post-intake development, Ivan Deniz 04b looks like the most promising one of this bunch; I don’t really need more attackers but good strikers and keepers always seem key to doing well in this challenge.

  

Facilities: £4.8m TV money allowed us to order a re-upgrade of the training facilities, and even though the board won’t let me upgrade coaching they have no such qualms about youth recruitment, so that’s up all the way to exceptional.

Preview

Again a very good intake with two very good DC's and an average of 42.61% . with Sanches 35A we get a driven tall central defender and our best intake player ever with 52.27%

  

Sanches 35A is our best PA and CA player ever ! And Ferreira 35D will be his DC partner for the next coming seasons ! Furtado 35F is a good extra MC option and Gomes 35C is our new pressing animal ! This time our best PA/CA players also have good personalities.

To be honest HOYD IMO is overrated. In this run I went to let manager u18 to get intake and Bender went crazy. You can for sure get better u18 manager with better stats then your HOYD atm.

It was a fun season and all comes down in the last match. With only 1 point difference, we we had to do the same result as Atlètic to become champions. In the end they lost against Sant Julià. After 3x times in a row, Andorra has a new champion. We had some solid player like, Alvaro Lopez, Mateo Pulgarín and Nicolás.

After failing to make significant progress in almost 40 seasons in the Scottish Lower Leagues, I have decided to start a new save, this time in Switzerland.

Liga Portugal BWIN:  Again a very good season and we end with our very best finish ever . Reaching Conference League (playoffs) is ok and if we get to the groupstage we will be able to make some money. Nascimento 33M and Monteiro 33N had a great season with most goals and assists in the league. Nascimento 33M also won the European golden boy award and was nominated in the African team of the year.

Nascimento 33m and Lopes 32i were number one and two in the new wonderkid list !

Taça de Portugal: We didn't win it this time but we reached the sixt round before getting beated by Gil Vicente

Supertaça: We lost the final against Porto for a 33k attendance.

Taça De Liga - Allianz Cup: We lost in the third phase.

Europe: We did a very good job finishing second in our first every Europa League Group. in a group with Zenit, Rosenborg & Saint-étienne . We beated Hoffenheim in the first knockout after a penalty shootout but couldn't beat M'Gladbach in the second knockout.

U23:  Finished last but no relegation.

U19: Our U19 finished 3rd in the 1st tier and played the championship playoffs for the first time. They finished 3rd !

The same three key players as last season. Can i replace Antunes 29A next season after again a good performance ?

Miscellaneous & Finances

At last we had a lot of international call ups and apps for Senior and youth players ! Downside, every two year i'll miss some senior players because of the Africa cup !

Finances improved a lot because of the Europa League but we used most of it for Training and Youth facilities upgrades.

Macland is wanted .. by France this time, number one of the world.

And we got a new president , nothing changed !

Aim for next season

I have high hopes for the two central defenders from the last intake. If I can integrate them into my existing eleven, then I hope to go for the top six again and thus achieve European status. In Europe I need to reach the group stage of the Conference league and then anything is possible.

XaW - Energie Cottbus - Season 2022/23 - 3. Liga

So I've completed my first season in Germany with Energie Cottbus, and it went way beyond expectations in the end. We had a very rocky start, the team did not respect me and everyone complained, and I was even rumoured to have "lost the dressing room" at one point. The results went as they do when that happens, so we were in the mud from the get go. But something happened in the 7th match of the season, when we turned conceded a poor early goal to Viktoria 1889. At half time I gave everyone a real hairdryer and the boys showed up and came back to win it 3-1. We then beat Verl in the next and the morale shot upwards again. From then on we started to pick up points at a higher rate and slowly started to climb upwards. The league was pretty close, so a few wins on the bounce really rocketed us upwards. With a game to go, we were a single point behind the playoff spot, but we had a hard away match against Ingolstadt who were just ahead of us, but behind Eintracht Braunschweig who held the spot. We needed to win, and hope that Eintracht Braunschweig dropped points. We took the lead, but conceded not long after, from then on neither we nor Ingolstadt managed to get the final goal so it ended in a 1-1 draw. So we ended a point behind the playoff spot, and I'm certain we would have made it with a better start to the season.

We didn't compete in any cups this season.

Outside of the pitch, we are losing a lot of money, so we need to hope to push up in a few seasons to avoid going bankrupt. So what's the natural thing to do then? Build a new stadium, of course! I did manage to secure myself the National C and National B license, as well as working on the National A license. Other than that no improvements made.

Youth intake:

A pretty good intake with a few talented players.

Denis Wieland 23a is a well rounded midfielder with good physical attributes for his age.

I prefer a quicker striker than Justin Dombrowa 23b, so I'm thinking about making him a AM, if I can work on his passing. Excellent mental attributes for one so young.

South Shields season 16: 2037-38

I've missed a couple of updates so will add two in now to catch up. First off was our second season back in the premier league. We had an up and down season again but ended in 15th, 10 points above the relegation zone. However, we had an excellent carabao cup run this season. We had an extremely lucky draw where we only played championship teams and below all the way to the final. We played against Man City in the final and narrowly beat them 2-1 to win our first piece of major silverware!

Our preview was promising again:

And it was a very decent intake, with a couple of winger/strikers and a good midfielder, all with decent personalities.

We mixed the tactics up quite a lot this season and had a number of different formations. Switched back to 433 near the end when we won the cup so will  stick with that into next season.

South Shields season 17: 2038-39

A real step up for us this season. After a mixed start we really hit form towards the middle of the season and went on a fantastic run. We dipped a bit in the second half but our we still had enough to finish in 9th which was a big improvement. 

We were also involved in the euro cup 2 after winning the carabao cup last year, and after breezing through the group, we beat Club Brugge and Gaziantep to reach the semi-final. We drew with Sporting CP home and away but were able to sneak past them on penalties to reach the final. We were drawn against Shamrock Rovers, and quite frankly it was a mismatch in the final and we won 5-1 in order to win our second trophy in 2 years! We also qualify for the Europa league off the back of this win, so we will enter that competition for the first time next season.

We had a couple of great breakthrough performances with James Pooley number 3 in the top 50 wonderkids, and Dan Fenton winning the European Golden Boy and also his first call up to the England squad. Fenton is a 6'7" centre back and is an absolute monster from set pieces.

Another decent looking preview as we need some more defenders:

The top two prospects look like they will be very good players for us.

The 433 worked wonders for us so we will be sticking with it. We were also excellent from set pieces this season as our 2 centre backs scored an amazing number of goals between them.

At the start of next season we finally move into our new 23,000 seater stadium, which I cannot wait for. We have been playing in Tranmere for so long it will be nice to finally move back across the country to South Shields.

Season Summary

I went with youth this season and as a result had no idea what to expect. After two defeats in our first three games I wasn't expecting much but we managed to go on a run with only 1 defeat in the next 11 games to push us into the play off positions. We had a little wobble after the christmas break but rallied and finished with a run of five victories to qualify for the play-offs!

Into the play offs! We had a semi final against the team in 3rd from Group A, Badajoz. They were much better than us and deservedly won 1-0. But we did get a nice windfall from the gate receipts, which was nice. And much needed

 

Players

A much younger squad this year that actually performed pretty well. In some cases much better than the more experienced, highly paid players they replaced, which was enormously pleasing

So Mimoun Castillo 24B was the star of the team at only 17. He's looking really good as well.

Ferro was a disappointment up front again so I'm thinking of moving him out wide and putting Diego 24A up front. He is a natural striker and more suited to it and I think he deserves his chance

 

Youth

Another promising preview and intake without any obvious future stars

Personalities and determination are improving which is a good sign.

 

FInances and Upgrades

Still a mess. The Spanish tier 3 is pretty poor really with little money and generally semi-professional. Being a proffessional team down there is hugely expensive.

At the start of the season we were subject to a takeover who wiped out our debts (partly through a 1.1m loan)meaning we started the season with 500k in the bank. They still wouldn't sanction any upgrades apart starting my coaching badges. We finished the season 800k in the red, which is really worrying!

Also, this happened

We can't afford to improve it and the board won't even think of it anyway. Having no money sucks!

Ungmennafélag Njarðvíkur – season 2046

Very disappointed to see this after last season performance. We started playing only after conceding four on aggregate...

Another close run in the league, and surprisingly KA were the biggest threat this time. We got only one point from them and were behind for quite a long time before KR helped us and finally ended their unbeaten run.

Cups – KA clearly had an lucky season, they finished 8 points over expected in the league and defeated us in the cup. Almost 3 xG against one shot on target and we somehow lost in shootout.

Group stage – I don’t understand what happens with us in Europe this year. Absolutely hopeless and could only get third place in hard battle  

Transfers – our Australian prospect was not good enough to reach the first team but attracted a decent offer from his homeland.

Squad stats – no new records, but two players got the international recognition - V.G.Guðmundsson became our second Golden Boy and Sigþórsson was selected as second best goalkeeper in the world.

The most diverse intake so far in terms of nationalities, and probably this Australian full-back will have a chance to break into the first team (interesting that he was born in the same small town as Castillo, and it's far in the west of Australia despite our affiliate there is based in New Zealand  )

We are through to the Group Stage of the Conference League, after beating Borac, St. Mirren and Levski Sofia in the Qual.Rounds. We are now in Group D, together with LASK(Austria), FK Crvena zvezda(Serbia) and Olympique Lyon. Last season we lost against Lyon, and this season we see eachother again.
But we still can't win.... We can score 4 goals against Lyon, so that's at least something positive.

This is our beautiful new stadium: Stanisław Śliwa Park! Very happy with this stadium.

2035 Midseason Review:

I expected a top four finish and am on pace for that. The annoying thing is the teams I'm battling in the top three with each have two of my former best players. Would probably be in first with them.

First time out of the Libertadores group stage. My reward? Boca. Top Argentinian club.

Fullback is one my weaker spots, so getting a top player there would be great. Overall looks like a strong intake.

So after my Andorra save bug out while saving, I will give another try in Turkey after my FM 21 attempt but this time in Batman Petrol Spor A.S. They have a nice new stadium for this level.

What a shocking result

Easily the best result in this save so far! My young striker Winsztal 27p, who came through the youth ranks as a midfielder but I'm retraining him as a target forward, scored the 1-0. We had a lot of chances to score, Winsztal 27p even scored his second goal but that goal was disallowed. And then, after the equalizer, our young American lad Wright 26i scored the winning goal, with his first goal for our club. What a win!!!

We even finished 2nd in Group D, so we qualified for the Knockout Rounds of the Conference League. The results so far are very satisfying!

Season Summary

An amazing season!

League - We started with 3 straight wins which were pretty dominant to be honest. And then we went on a wierd run where we played ok but kept losing. 7 defeats and 4 victories in the next 11 sent us down to mid-table. And that's where I expected us to stay for the rest of the season except we started winning and kept on winning. By the last game of the season we had racked up a 24 game unbeaten run and pushed ourselves right up to second! we were brilliant. Just in one of those runs where you feel nothing can go wrong and you can beat anyone. Another few games and we'd have been champions! but, as it was, second successive play-offs for us.

 

Play off time! semi-final was against one of the teams in group 1, Racing Santander. It was a really close game but we managed to squeak past with a 2-1 vcitory.

The final was against La Nucia who have become pretty fierce rivals of ours since we've been in tier 3. Last league game we beat them 4-1 so I knew it was possible to beat them. This time around was a lot closer but.....

94th minute winner!!!

We did it!!! La Liga 2 here we come!

 

Players

It was a young side but a really good one!

Biggest success was moving Augustin Ferro to right wing and sticking Diego 24A up front. Ferro was just as effective on the wing as he was up front while Diego was brilliant up front. 25 goals at 17 years of age is a promising start!

Next season will be a real step up for this side though and I think it's gonna be a huge challenge to stay up. But we'll give it a go!

Finances and Upgrades

Finances are still a complete mess. We lost over a million over the course of the season again. 

No upgrades as a result. Maybe in La Liga 2 I can get some biggish money for our players cos so far we have had very little interest in any of them. We'll see what happens I guess.

Not a bad start as all season I had no GK as the one they originally had employed left a week after I joined. My squad is barebone until the next Youth Imtake.

 

 

 

Relegated, on a hiding to nothing really, No GK in the first two seasons, Losing players left, right and centre.

League and Recopa Sudamericana

One of the most amazing seasons I think I've had in FM.  We started the year with the U19s winning the Copa Libertadores U20 tournament, they would also go on to win the league and then the reserves also won the league.  Meanwhile with the first team we started off the season playing the Recopa Sudamericana which is essentially the South American Super Cup.  This was against the back to back reigning Copa Libertadores champions Sao Paulo, dropping the first leg at home, I was pessimistic about our chances in the away leg but we came out all guns blazing and were 4-1 up in the tie with 20 mins to go when they hit two goals in two minutes to bring the scores level on aggregate.  I hadn't looked at the rules so I actually thought we were going to win on away goals so I was slightly surprised when it went to extra time where we able to grab a deserved winner.

We were actually predicted a 4th placed finish by the media before the season began so we always had a chance of fighting for the title but with my abysmal record against Penarol, I wasn't completely confident and we ended up finishing second to them in the opening stage with us both only losing 1 game (All three of our defeats this season were 1-0 losses to MC Torque).  In the Intermedio we were in a different group to Penarol and they really messed up, dropping points in three games, we only dropped points in one game to MC Torque but had overtaken them on the overall table.  Unfortunately they started the closing stage like a bat out of hell and won every game until they played us, we stormed ahead to a 4-1 lead despite having never even managed to score 3 in a single game against them previously, they scored two really late goals to make me nervous but we held on and would only not win one more game in the league season to win the closing stage.

This set up the playoff game between us which was a one legged affair, considering we had only recently beaten them for the first time we actually dealt with them so comfortably they only managed 4 shots with none on target.  After the game I found out that this game meant we had won the league which was really confusing because every other season when there has been a playoff game there is also then a champions playoff two legged fixture and I had obviously not understood the reason for these games and playing the game on 2D I had missed the trophy presentation if there was one.  Having looked back at previous playoffs, the champions playoff is only played if the overall champions lose that single playoff game.

Copa Libertadores

We began this campaign in the group stage because of our Copa Sudamericana win last season.  We were in a group with Sport Boys, fellow Uruguayan side Liverpool and Rosario Central who we had traded wins with in two separate Copa Sudamericana campaigns.  The group was quite easy apart from the Rosario games, where we both won our home games against each other but Liverpool did us a favour by drawing and beating them in their two games. 

Finishing top of the group we got drawn against another Argentine side in Godoy Cruz, winning well in the away leg but not managing to put them to the sword so we came away with only a 1-0 lead, we then took and early lead in the home leg before they got a red card on 26 mins and from there we absolutely destroyed them 7-0.  This set up yet another meeting with Rosario Central and we again traded home wins but our 5-3 home win was enough to overcome a 2-1 defeat, we made the second leg harder than it needed to be, conceding 3 goals from 3 shots on target.

That qualified us for the semi finals along with Nacional, Penarol and Sao Paulo, so three Uruguayan sides making it to the final four along with the team that had made the last three finals winning the last two.  We were paired with Nacional who I held out more hope against than playing Penarol.  We made a bit of a mess of the first leg away from home as we were 2-1 up, they had a man sent off before the hour mark and we managed to concede another to leave with a draw.  The second leg was something I have never witnessed in FM, we scored in the sixth minute, they equalised in the ninth, we went ahead in the tenth and by the eighteenth we were 4-1 up and then just before half time we were 7-1 up with two players getting hattricks, we ended the half scoring an own goal to make it 7-2.  Rarely have I seen one of my teams hit 7 goals in a game, let alone in the first half of a second leg of a continental semi final.  It was a fairly quiet second half but Nacional were able to make it less embarrassing by getting two goals in the 89th and 93rd minutes.

The Final

Sao Paulo came through the other semi final for their fourth consecutive final appearance.  We were pretty much at full strength going into the final and had a decent rest of 13 days before the game and we started a similar way to the second leg of the semi final, scoring within 2 minutes of the kick off.  The game was going our way and they hadn't had a single shot before the 39th minute when we gave away a penalty after a long throw, they buried it to bring it level but that was only to be for a few minutes when we went back ahead with a well worked move for a tap in.  We carried on the game looking comfortable and creating decent chances whilst Sao Paulo weren't really threatening but then they hit us with a back post header from a corner on the hour mark.  Again the game continued very much in the same vein but we couldn't fashion another goal so it went into extra time, this proved to be just as fruitless for us and the game drifted to penalties.  I had specifically trained penalties the day before the game because usually my teams are garbage in shootouts but it seemed to really pay off.  Both teams were perfect for the first 8 pens before Sao Paulo missed their fifth, I thought "if we don't win it with this penalty then we won't win this shootout", so inevitably we missed it.  Sao Paulo players seemed to keep coming up and slotting them away with ease until we saved their 8th penalty.  Marcos Bica 30d, born in Tacuarembó and a Tacuarembó supporter stepped up to win it, and win it he did.

Of the 12 players we used in the final, 9 of them were born in Tacuarembó which made it even more special.

Nicolás Marichal 31a was the other player to play in the final, he finally became 17 this season so was able to start using him in the league as well.  Pedro Borches 27h was unlucky to miss out but I felt that I had to play Mateo Charamoni as it will probably be his last hurrah and I owe him as club captain and consistently one of the best players.  Armando Benítez was also unlucky to miss out but he hadn't been performing quite as well against the top opposition anymore.  Guillermo Charamoni 30a started to get some proper first team game time this season and smashed in 11 goals in 12 league starts and 2 in 2 starts in the Copa Libertadores.

Thankfully it didn't hamper us winning the CL but Santiago Noy 28e was bought for his release clause of £1.4M at the start of the season and then Adolfo Castro 29b went in the same fashion in the August for £1.6M, at that point he had 5 goals and 14 assists in 17 games so it was pretty gut wrenching to lose him for so little.

Youth Intake

Another Golden Generation with a lot of exciting players.  Sebastián González 32f, Diego Mautone 32j, Jorge Garay 32c, José Peña 32e and the top guy Andrés Camacho 32a.

Finances

We made an absolute killing in prize money as well as over £3M in transfer fees this season and this is after three facility upgrades.  We are still waiting to move into the new stadium which hopefully will only add to the positive bank balance.

Future Plans

Despite having completed the challenge I'm not really ready to leave the save or Uruguay, it's such a fun place to play and I really love the club so I think I will keep playing, maybe try and get to the Club World Cup and see how we fare in that.

Even if we had of won it wouldn't have mattered, still, 2nd is our best ever finish and marks another improvement...or other teams regression as twice we've hit 60 points or more.
