Maybe so, but on the flip side I don't see them ever being able to sell him for any high amount. He's worth that much but he's 27 now and has never hit double figures in either goals or assists in a season for Villa so can't see anyone wanting to pay so much money anytime soon.

Still would would have been nice to get a decent option for selling the clause

The Zaha curse, good enough to be so important to a mid-table side that they don't want to sell, not good enough that anyone who can afford him is willing to pay up.

A great season for us in the league, for the first time really pushing Vikingur for the title. We won the first of our 3 games against them and were on top for a while.

Europe

Our European campaign was excellent, although I feel we could've gone through the League Phase. Both draws against Limassol and Breidablik were unnecessary.

Our preliminary rounds were tough draws in which we did really well. That's what makes the league phase disappointing as well. Our win against Rakow was huge, as they won the Conference League just 2 years ago!

At the back, regular sub Mortensen was our most stand-out player. He scored 5 goals in his limited time on the pitch.

Sorensen had a good season in midfield, he's not developing as fast as hoped but he has time.

Hansen is leaving for Vikingur, the only club I can accept players leaving for. Gutted to lose such a great player. I don't need the money but at 250k + 40% sellon I'm ok with it.

Gutti Wiberg had a stellar season with 40 goals and has not found a new club yet. I'd bet a lot on KI or B68 coming in for him when he's released.

A short list of Elites this year, but Nygaard and Pedersen have a nice future ahead of them.

Andersen is decent as well, his personality might help him develop into a useful player.

Its been a while since I posted an update, I've not been playing as much but I have got two more seasons completed since my last update so I'll post them now.

Crewe United - Season Ten 32/33

Danske Bank Premiership

Season Summary

Pre-season was a quiet one with no major transfers out so we started the season with the same players than finished runners up last season with a couple promoted from the youth team.

We were in the Europa Conference again starting in the first qualifying round and played FC Progres Niederkorn from Luxemburg and beat them 5-0 at home and then 2-1 away to set up a second qualifying round against FC Vaduz from Lichtenstein where we drew 0-0 at home and then lost 3-2 away in extra time to end our European run early.

With just domestic league to play we started off well and didn't lose a game until October and that was our only defeat going right through to April as we were dominant in the league and the cup games. When the league split after 33 games we were 2 points clear at the top having gone top after game 29 as although we weren't losing games the league was still close with Larne and Linfield not losing much either and we spent most of the season in 2nd or third but once we got top we stayed there. Things got dicey at the end though as we ended the season away to Larne then home to Linfield and despite only losing 1 game all season we lost both games against our rivals but we got lucky as Larne lost their last game too and we ended up winning the league by 1 point over Larne.

That's the clubs first top division title and half the challenge completed, just the small matter of the Champions League to go although we are a long way from doing that.

We also won the Mid Ulster cup, the Bet McLean cup and the Northern Irish cup wo claim all available trophies and pick up a quadruple for the first time.

Our Trophy celebrations:

We sold our best player in the January Transfer window for a club record £17.5m plus 50% sell on fee, this was also a Northern Ireland record transfer. His first two seasons were ok but this season he had been excellent and will be a massive miss for the club but the money is also massive for the club.

With plenty of money coming in from previous sales and the record sale this year there were more facility upgrades, we have the best Junior Coaching and youth recruitment and we are one stage away from the best training facilities with the board agreeing to upgrade those again which will be complete next season. Only the youth Facilities are lagging behind because we haven't had the option to ask for them to be upgraded for a while:

Back to Back updates to catch up on where we are at the moment.

Crewe United - Season Eleven 33/34

Danske Bank Premiership

Season Summary

Pre-season was again quiet with no player sales, I did however have to constantly reject pitiful bids for my keeper that Linfield wanted to sign and the best player in last years youth intake was wanted by a host of top English sides but their bids were under £500k and with having millions in the bank the board won't accept offers like that so we started the season with the team that ended last year with the quadruple.

This year we started in the Champions League for the first time and were drawn against the Welsh Leagues best side TNS but they weren't that good and we beat them 3-0 away and then 2-1 at home. In the second qualifying round we had Dinamo Minsk from Belarus and we narrowly beat them 2-1 at home then hammered them 4-0 away which was unexpected. FK Sarajevo from Bosnia were next we we beat them easily 3-0 at home and then 1-0 away, so far so good but we were drawn against Scottish side Rangers in the playoff to get into the group stage and they were too good for us as we lost 2-0 away and then 2-0 at home too. Defeat however didn't knock us out of Europe and we went into the Europa league stage, this is the furthest we have gotten in Europe and the first time in a league stage.

The league stage drew us against FC Midtjylland who we beat 3-0 away, then Real San Sebastian where we came from 2 down to draw 2-2 at home, then Hoffenhein where we lost 3-1 away, then we had Molde who we drew 0-0 with at home, then we beat Panathinaikos 3-0 away, drew 0-0 at home to Empoli, beat Basaksehir FK 2-1 at home and ended with a 1-0 away with against Antalyaspor.

Those results gave us a 13th place finish in the league phase and a playoff game against Qarabag who ended up being too good for us and we lost 2-1 away and then 3-1 at home.

Overall a very good European campaign doing much better than I thought we would, I was surprised with how poor some of the teams were in the Europa league.

On the domestic front, things weren't as good as we struggled with all the games we had to play and there was a lot of rotation. We started off the season with a 1-0 defeat away to our rivals Larne and then we went on an unbeaten run but it had a few draws and were playing catch up early on and we actually went unbeaten all the way to April, the same as last season we had only lost 1 game when the league split but unlike last season we were only second in the league at this point. Following the first game of the split we went top of the table and won the first 3 of the 5 post split games and looked to be heading for the title again but like last season we ended playing Larne and then Linfield. In the Larne game we lost 2-1 at home, a draw would have been enough to win the league and it was a frustrating game where Larne scored a 3rd minute penalty and then we dominated the game struggling to score, scoring goals had been a problem all season where strikers missed easy chances and this was the case in this game but we did finally get the goal we deserved in the 91st minute which would seal the title, however this is FM and it had other ideas as straight from kick off they went down and scored, it was their first highlight since the 3rd minute penalty as they done nothing in between and we lost 2-1. We could still win the league if we beat Linfield or drew against Linfield and Larne didn't win, in our game we were winning for a long time and Larne were drawing but that all changed in the last 10 minutes as Linfield got a 82nd minute equaliser and then Larne scored 3 goals.

Those last couple of results meant that both us and Larne finished the season on 96 points but they had a 3 better goal difference than we did and had scored a lot more goals than we did so we finished second in the league, the third runners up in 4 years and like the previous two we done it getting a record number of points for a team not winning the league.

In the cups we won the Mid Ulster and Bet McLean cups again and then ended the season in the Northern Irish cup final against Larne where we could get revenge for them winning the league but it was another frustrating FM game against them as we took the lead in the first half and dominated while my strikers missed sitters, Larne then got and scored a penalty in the 51st minute and as the game looked to be heading into extra time they got and scored their second penalty of the game in the 92nd minute, they had done nothing all game except get those penalties and I felt like we were robbed out of a third cup win.

Overall a frustrating season domestically and a good season in Europe.

Next season we are back in the Europa league rather than the Champions League so I would like to get into the group stage again and domestically fight for the title. I do think that we are stagnating a bit as a club, it seems like players are hitting their early 20s and progress either stops or they get worse while any player we do have that improves ends up getting sold for big money because they get unhappy and won't sign new contracts so I decide to cash in on them. We need to keep hold of our better players and hope others improve more, on the improvement of players we have the best training facilities and the best coaches we can find so I think the limit now is the quality and reputation of the league as I think that is what's stopping or slowing down improvement when they get 20+, they need to play at a higher level which means we need to be doing good in Europe to play more games and increase the leagues reputation, I think we are still a long way away from doing much in the Champions League but I can see progress.

what's the ideal amount of leagues to load up for this challenge, might give it ago once i've read more into it.

Depends on what your computer can handle / how quickly you want to go through seasons. The nature of this type of save is that you're typically playing 15-30 seasons before you complete it, if you ever do. You save time by not focusing on the scouting and transfer side of the game and can save even more time by only loading the nation you are playing in. Of course, that comes with a lack of immersion to the rest of the continent. Especially if you play in Europe, continental competitions will involve playing against greyed-out teams (even top half teams in top 5 leagues like Athletic Bilbao or Wolfsburg or top teams in top 10 leagues like Anderlecht or Galatasaray) unless you're playing the top teams (think Barcelona, Man City, or Juventus).

So the conventional wisdom is that loading more leagues will make the challenge slightly harder when you're playing continental competition. So it's up to you whether you prefer having the game run a bit faster, or having the game be a bit more realistic with fleshed-out simulations. (If you're going to play outside of Europe, I'd absolutely recommend loading up all the leagues you can however)

my idea is if i decide to try this challenge would be to manage in a European based league.

Another season in the championship.

a slow start but we got lucky in that id loaned out 2 players who i thought werent great. turns out theyve developed well in 3 years of loans but id left them in the U21s. brought them back and they went straight into the first team.  won 7 of the last 8 beating Derby (3rd) and west brom (2nd) in the last 2 games.

owners pumped more money into the facilities and all being well next season i should have them all maxed out. An ok intake but we brought in players in positions id use so see how they pan out.

on to next season. i feel like we are going to be up near the top if i can keep my best players.

Still determined to finish the challenge in Denmark, but I'm testing out some teams in Lebanon using DaveTheEditor's megapack to load all Asian leagues. Hopefully something sticks and I have a save idea for after this (that might even be portable to FM24 according to the new announcement)

EDIT: @darren1983 If it matters, the reset date is June 26th, but save on May 6th to get new teams.

Season Review

Spoiler

Another great season with another 4 trophies added to the ever-creaking cabinet but still in search of the elusive domestic invincible season. 2 major talking points as far as the squad is concerned one good and one bad:

S11_MartinNewContract.thumb.png.3f3409c851376b25d3e5728f6e281d3c.png

S11_GenesteSold.thumb.png.3024d97f44efb27c832467bedcd9869c.png

Leading goalscorer Geneste sold which was more about appeasing him and not losing morale in the squad than the money as we are doing very well financially. He's barely played so I've already sold the £1m after league appearances for about £600k I think it was as clearly the step up from Danske Bank Premiership to English Premiership is as you'd expect absolutely huge. I was really pleased Martin finally talked and I could get him tied down on a full time contract.

So with Geneste gone was it a case of struggling to score goals? Nope, we broke the goals scored record in the league and Curran (Elite7) and Watson (Elite9) forged a great partnership scoring 50 and 55 goals respectively. Even after than Nathan Bell (Elite6) and Conor Telford (Elite7) scored  22 and 23 goals respectively which for the back-up strikers is immense.

Domestically it was pretty straightforward apart from the 3rd round SPFL Trust Trophy exit at home to Partick Thistle, it was just one of those games where we didn't get many shots on target and we got punished (to be honest with the fixture pile-up that would have resulted from going to the final I was relieved though the board weren't too happy).

In Europe we managed to get into the Champions League group phase for the second time this time beating RFS (LAT), Derry City (IRE), FCSB (ROM) and Dinamo (CRO) to get that lovely, lovely Champions League money. In the group stage we did way better than I expected after a one year absence which saw us win 3 games and an impressive 2-2 draw away to Lyon to qualify for the Kncok Out Play Off round. That's where it ended as we were well and truly outclassed by Real and lost 5-0 on aggregate. Still its progress and it's helping the coefficients for Northern Ireland as the qualification places have improved once more:

As a result of the money coming in once more the facilities are getting pushed towards the maximum with the training facilities now just one upgrade away from state of the art:

S11_YouthFacilitiesUpgrade.thumb.png.7757d8a823da9f79de2ed4093bf77dd6.png

Nothing awe inspiring out of the intake, its now at that stage where given my first team players that I have I don't expect to see many of the 5 star potentials come through but we did get one this year with a keeper which is good as my current keeper is nearing maxing out at 4 star potential, so if its accurate he could be the new long term keeper at the club.

I was offered an interview for Championship side Middlesbrough this season as well as being offered the Northern Ireland job for the second time in the save so my own stock is increasing with the impressive domestic trophy haul and European progress.

Next Season Aims

Spoiler
  • Domestic dominance fully asserted
  • Keep the key players this season

what's the ideal amount of leagues to load up for this challenge, might give it ago once i've read more into it.

As @The_Gato_In_Goalsaid, it depends. But on my current save I have the following.

Managing in Indonesia, tier 2+

playable top tier divisions in top nations Korea, Japan, Iran and Saudi

playable Malaysia top tier as it is top trading nation for Indonesia

view only top division in the next top six nations in asia, I think.

I then added players using advanced settings. Think it was about 38k.

I like playable and view only leagues to make continental football more interesting and challenging. It also makes transfers in the region more realistic.

Running through a preliminary test with Irshad. We started with 15 players, and now are down to 13 as everyone was on a non-contract and some chose to join other clubs instead of sign part time deals. Using a greyed-out keeper, we'll see if this can last to the first intake in April. I'm hoping for some spice, since I chose Lebanon because it seemed to have some variety in intakes. Lots of Armenians, some African countries, and even Venezuela, Brazil, and Finland from what I observed. Our one player last year was from Cote d'Ivoire, and the other club promoted with us that I chose not to play with actually is an Armenian diaspora club that produce dual nationality intakes! Cruel, I wasn't even doing that poorly. We were 10th in the league (of 12) and 3rd in the xG table. Undecided whether I try again in Lebanon, go to Palestine (they have spicy intakes with Nordic nations as second nationality), or just pack up my toys and go back to the Bronshoj save.

EDIT: seems like Palestine doesn't have relegation from the second tier in the game, so they're out

I couldn't stay away, something about the nice light blue uniforms in the match engine. Managed to get another Ivorian oddly enough.

End of Season Review

Season 2023/24

C.F. Atlètic Amèrica

CF Atlètic Amèrica - Wikipedia

Season Summary

A tremendous season where we secured promotion the long way an enjoyed an excellent cup run.

Season Details

League Table - A third place finish was excellent and allowed us to qualify for the Promotion League.

League Fixtures 1 & 2 - On the whole, we played well throughout though there were a smattering of poor performances.

Promotion League - By finishing second, we qualified for the promotion playoff.

Promotion League Fixtures - After losing our first game we went unbeaten for the remaining five games.

Promotion Playoff - We comfortably defeated U.E Santa Coloma over the two legs to secure promotion to the top flight.

Copa Constitució PROTECTVALL - We did so well in reaching the semi finals before losing at home to top flight champions Inter d'Escaldes, after extra time.

Friendlies - We had a long pre season campaign and the fact we only lost two of our seventeen matches was very pleasing.

Squad - We do not have many players and we lack a goalkeeper.

Squad Dynamics - Whilst this is good there is still room for improvement.

Transfers In - None.

Transfers Out - Unfortunately I lost two players who decided their futures lay elsewhere.

Youth Candidates - We do not currently have a youth academy, so there was no intake this year.

Finances - We lost a small amount and have slipped into the red as a result.

Key Players

Nicolas Urrutia - The Guatemalan right winger has a sublime campaign.

Eduardo Morales - Playing in central midfield, he was an assist machine.

Jesús Rubio - Our one full international, the Andorran right back is one of our best players.

Londero - The Argentine striker is largely consistent though he does disappear from games occasionally.

Cristian Orosa - The veteran had a fine season playing primarily in central defence.

Next Season

I would be more than happy in a mid table finish.

Almost relegated after an endless run of bad results. The season started well my team played a 433 shape but we had no true identity, some games went like this and some like that but we had some results. I watched some vids about counter attacking tactics and switched for a 3ATB tactic, with seven players defending and three attacking hard. 343 with two DM in the middle. The boys were adapting easily and we had a strong run of undefeated games. After January we were sitting solid mid table with 41 points and heading for the best finish in three years. The strikers were eating goals and even against strong opponents we were chasing victory. I started to give game time to the promising youngsters. The cup match against Crewe Alexander was the turning point, the heavy 1:5 defeat at home robbed us the momentum and the next few games against the top teams of the league were all lost late and close. Dressing room atmosphere was stable despite the bad results piling up, most players are fairly determined now, but we lost and lost and lost and falling into a late relegation battle again avoiding the drop by two points.

I'm not sure about changing again into a 433 or developing the 343 for next season. Our best players are strikers, which we have plenty but only bad defenders. MC and DM we do have also enough with good development perspectives. Our best players have been the front three with legends Hussein and Waite withe the prospects Michael Eboh 24YA  and Rhys Platt 24 YA our best elite talents from 24. At the back Neil Cox 25YA is developing strongly and in midfield Kavenagh Williams-Bowers 25YA1 had made an impact into first team.

We are still overwhelming relegation candidates (450:1)

Persitara Jakarta Utara (Indonesia) - Season 2 Review (2023)

Domestic League - BRI Liga 1: 6th
Persitara finished in 6th place with 51 points and a goal difference of +16. The team had a decent season but suffered a late slump in form and results, which led to criticism from supporters regarding the manager's tactics. Persib won the league with 68 points, three points clear of Barito Putera. Last year's champions, Persita, finished 5th on 55 points. The bottom three teams, Madura United, Bhayangkara, and Semen Padang, were relegated to Liga 2.

First time populating this list in a couple years. I'm pleased to see Aagaard 20b getting some recognition, he's our primary backup at the position and has had 5 starts in the league and 5 in the early stages of the Champions League. Fisker 19a is looking more and more like the real deal, he's started 28 in all competitions and scored 18 goals.

To be honest my squad is falling apart at the seams, lots of players wanting to move to a bigger club, more ambitious club or stronger squad (I guess making the group stage of champions league 3 out of 4 times isn't good enough).

EDIT: I should call out that Martin has a 50% of next transfer profit and Curran 40% (I had to do Curran at £1.9m as he had a £2m release clause which would have meant no sell on clause)

[FM22] SC Zestaponi - introduction

This is a sleeping giant of Georgian football. Founded in 2004 (as a succesor of Metalurgi Zestaponi) - 2 times national champion (2010/11 - 11/12), expelled from league in 2015 for not attending a match (as far as I read). Now they are trying to rebuild from lower divisions. Very good overall facilities to start with, I hope the intakes will give me a lot of talent, nice financial situation, some decent players but there's a big hole in a central defence. The league starts at march/april so it's more like a scandinavian style not a typical one. If things go well we should aim for a promotion playoffs (top3) at least according to bookies.

Losing my top players 3 years running and the excessive fixture list just makes this one I need to park (most likely I won't return), just burnt out and not really enjoying it anymore.

Time for a total change of pace......Finland and FC Jazz

  • 12,300 capacity stadium
  • adequate training facilities
  • adequate youth facilities
  • adequate junior coaching
  • average youth development
  • £438k in the bank
  • 24 players in main squad
  • 11 players in under 18s
  • 27 games in the second tier and a single cup (bliss compared to Northern Ireland)

Interesting to see how  things will work in Europe given the league runs from April to December (First Division Cup starts late January)

Here are my first kits:

Is it ok if I post my updates here if I play FM22 or should I go to last years thread? I need a little break from my main career so I thought about trying with a country I've never played before and chose Georgian league

Yeah you're fine posting here, if you complete it just let me know it's on 22 so I can put the right version on the HoF.

Some clubs release players ebfore the change over date and leaves you screwed. It's just something we can't control annoyingly, they may not even release the same players every save either - it's all pot luck.

It's just how it is sometimes. I'm having the same with Beaconsfield... 11 players and a few injuries... I don't play grey players unless I have to, so I don't use any subs, and only have greys on the field to actually have 11 players starting. That's not a requirement btw, but I dislike greys! :D

To add to what @XaW and @darren1983 have said, Stourbridge only start with 16 players, so if they released players and didn't sign any youth players they're going to have a really small squad unfortunately. Personally I wanted to start a save as Merthyr for my attempt but had the same issue so had to choose someone else.

Kotwica Kołobrzeg - 2042/43

Squad - League - Finances - Transfers

Season 20 Anniversary! This year, we managed to win the league quite quickly because in the 30th round. Unfortunately, the sale of Paluszek 15a affected the game in the Champions League where we lacked some quality. The most painful was the draw with FC Midtjylland and the loss to Bodo/Glimt, which practically crossed out of the group. The win over Napoli gave us something to go on but Barcelona beat us 1-2 despite scoring the first goal. In the end, we are eliminated despite equal points with Borussia due to the number of goals scored. In the Polish Cup we lose in penalty kicks to Lech. Unfortunately, the referee disallowed our 2 goals scored in normal time.

Good intake this season with top prospect from Nigeria. Destiny looks like potential NT player. I'm not sure in which way I want to develop him. I'm thinking about attacking central midfielder or advanced forward. What you think guys? What should be destiny of Destiny? :)

The academy is starting to pay off with two more sales in January

b6MZPTi.png

SEJE7fB.png

Both had gotten unsettled after attracting Championship attention, so whilst I possibly could've gotten more for them, I didn't want to **** them off too much and took what I could get without worrying about too many add ons. It would've thrown a spanner into the team if they'd left mid season as we don't really have good enough replacements for them and I didn't want to search for a new tactic mid season, but you don't need a loan back if you demand the transfer happens at the end of the season *taps head*
